The Bundesliga and Topps have launched a programme called Starting XI Debut Patch for the 2026/27 season. When a player makes his Bundesliga debut, he wears a specially designated patch on his match shirt. That patch is then cut and embedded into Topps trading cards as a memorabilia relic. The programme is structured around the debut moment itself, meaning the relic is tied to a specific, verifiable first appearance rather than a generic game-worn source.

Match-worn memorabilia cards live or die on provenance, and this programme solves the provenance problem at the source. The patch is designated before the match, worn during the debut, and fed directly into the card — there is no ambiguity about which game it came from or whether the player actually wore it. For a collector, that is a meaningfully stronger chain of custody than a standard game-used relic. It also creates a natural scarcity logic: only players who actually debut in the Bundesliga generate a patch, and the debut only happens once.
