Obviously I know I need to turn on the camera and start selling, but I want to make sure I'm creating a sustainable business. Let me give you a quick. Eric, let me just say this. My first question is more from Mike in regard to sourcing inventory. Tough. What do you think is the most essential part of acquiring inventory and where do you look for it most often? By big names. If you're just starting out, I would say I would not even be concerned with the margin. You don't want to lose money. But I would be more concerned with buying cards of players that people want. Stick to the top five to eight names in every sport. That is it. Nothing more than that when you're first starting out. Here's a one question though. I would. I would raise to you and to. To Eric. I would say are you looking only at the most expensive products like tops. Tops products are going to be your most expensive ones. Because I would say, oh, that's not true. I mean Panini football and basketball is more expensive than top still for singles. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh For non licensed. You're saying their non Licensed stuff is more expensive. Oh no, no. But for singles he's not talking about breaks, he's talking about singles. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm just saying like for any current products, any modern product that's coming out right now, you're. You're going to assume that tops products have licensing so it's going to cost a little bit more. I but that's kind of my point is are you looking at non licensed options? Because even though. You don't go to a Pokemon show and try and spell sports cards. But I think you can go to some sports shows because so many of so many of them have turned into. But not when you're starting out. I would say at least, at least as a newbie I would keep the shows cur. Here's Thursday night is baseball because you want to reach buyers. I would say I don't think it matters like starting out or not. I would just say bring it with you and have it ready. If you feel. If you feel it out and you're like oh Yu-Gi-Oh there's a lot of non sport or Pokemon or whatever but if you have a lot of those people in your room, you're doing it wrong myself a disservice by trying to cater to both worlds or should I just stick to one? I cater to both but I would say just don't do it the same show to start out. Establish what and also regularity matters. I will say too when it comes to social media because you're going to advertise, you're going to put out posts and this is what I have found from the last what, five, six years of doing this. My question to you is, do you think this is fully overblown? That shield bidding is a major issue in the hobby, or do you think that it's somewhere in between? Or do you think show building. Well, in my experience, what I have noticed is, especially when a new product comes out, you'll start seeing some of those cards get shill bid because the people that own that product and are selling it, they're like, oh, this is a good way to Drive the attention even more. Get more people in. Oh, they see more cards being sold at higher prices, they're going to go out and buy into breaks or they're going to buy the product themselves. That is my personal experience. It doesn't of course apply to every experience. Yu-Gi-Oh I think you're totally wrong about new product. I think new product is always a more expensive. That was an eloquent, succinct. We're getting ready to go to the national. We're going to flip it there for 40 because we just bought it for 35. And now the rationalization or the realization is that didn't happen. Yu-Gi-Oh I think you see it a lot of times though with stuff like back in the day, Luca PSA 10 prisms. Dude, we could shield it up 50 or 100 auctions at the same time because we have 2, 000 of these cards back. I think that is the most prolific shield bidding you see is on cards that are Zebra readily available. And you have some shady scumbags in the hobby that have massive amounts of them and they know if they can affect it a little bit, they can then start to really shift their whole position on a card. I do definitely think that is also the case because there's a lot of those who have not only the number of cards but they also have the social media to start about it because it's like for sure if you don't have. If people don't know that it's being shielded or talked about in general, then it's like, well, oh, they can shill bit all they want and no one knows about the card. Not true. Hang on. By the way, that is not true. Because even back people know things are getting bit Higher, not shill bit. They know prices are going higher because they're checking comps. It's not because people are talking about it. But I'm saying if it is not. Yes, of course there, there's caveats to everything. But I'm saying in the majority, if you are trying to show bid, it means you are trying to get people to buy something at a higher price. And if you're trying to do that, then it means you probably have a lot of that thing you're trying to sell so that you can take advantage of that. And if you're going to do that, then you need more people to know about it. So you're going to make a little video of like, hey, look at this card I just got in. You're not going to be like, guys, this card's out in auction right now. You're just going to bring more awareness to it and then you're going to influence the rest of the audience to go out and look for themselves and then they're going to find, oh, this card's selling for whatever, and they don't know that it was shill bid already. They don't actually talk about the cards that they're selling. They never talk about like this. You see them transacting, but that's what that's at a card show. But that's my point is they're not going out there and saying, hey, this is the card I'm selling. I bought this and now I'm going to go flip it. They're saying, hey, check out this card that I just got. I love this. I just got this at the show. They would never say, hey, I'm selling it because that'd be way too obvious. All they're doing is bringing awareness to the card. Hey, did you know this card even existed? Hey, did you know that this card is something that a lot of speculators are just now catching on to? It's a lot of just teasing it because that's all you need to do. You just plant the seed and then others go out and they oh Yu-Gi-Oh I didn't know that. I like that card. I'm gonna go look and see if I can find some. Oh, it just so happens that some guy's got 10 of them listed for sale. Oh, let me go check it out. So which one of the influences you calling out then? Because like again it's a small pool that could control the mass. Who do you think actually does that? I'm not even if I had names, which I probably do, I'm not going to name it. But for the fifth time, the Trey Young auto, it literally has been unpaid for five days. This is the fifth time they've listed. He tells me this happens with all their big Trey Young stuff. Then they have to go back through ban a bunch of the bidders, start it again. Same thing happened. You know what? That's a good example though, as far as, like dc, because I still send a lot of my single stuff to D.C. where it's like I don't have time to list it and I want it to be sold. And what I noticed back to the point of like, newer product, it does still happen quite a bit with new products where it's like, hey, this product just came out and I want this card because I. I may have it or I want it to continue to go up. Those cards get bid up and then they don't actually get Paid for. It happened at the National. In fact, I have several cards from the national that got bit up. And then now you could make the argument that people just got taken up in the moment. They were very excited. They saw the cards, and then they actually realized later it's like, oh, but it was a national card. And those typically go down in value. And there's been other sales in the meantime. There was a buy it now at 100. I just bid 180. So there. There's arguments to be made as far as the national specifically goes. But I have noticed it with the cards that I break because I. When new products come out, not only am I breaking, I'm buying into breaks. I'm a bit of a degenerate when it comes to that. So when I get those cards in, if it's not something I actually really care about or I think it's going to go up, I sell it. And that's when I notice. That's fair. I actually. And I agree with you there, I think from your perspective in that world, on your side of things, I think it probably does happen a lot more, too, because again, smaller world, there's not as many things to go off of. Yu-Gi-Oh it's Top Chrome. Top Chrome is his first, I believe Topps Chrome card. It is. I hate that card for that reason. Know if that's like sustainable and then also it's like when. All right, pause it for a second. Is there going to be a. So Yu-Gi-Oh he's 2002, first time you ever had a Topps Chrome card. It's a third year card. He's a rookie in 2000. He has 2001, then 2002. By that point he already one-of-one a Zebra bowl though. And so that card people have gone absolutely crazy for. It's a green border, Topps Chrome PSA 10. Okay. It's having a moment right now and you've. I've seen some influencers and some stupid people make the argument, well, hey, this is. And. And some have specifically mentioned this, which drives me nuts. Well, this is like the mantle 51. Bowman is his real rookie. But people like the 52 better. Here's the thing. Number one, back then you had one or two in that case, two card companies. Bowman and then Tops, which was the year after it was the first tops card. That Topps is the most iconic baseball set of all time anyways. So whether you think it's his rookie or not, I don't care. That is not. That is in no way comparable to Tom Brady's 2002 Topps Chrome. But you see people making that now. Well, this is his Tops rookie. That's a third year base card. That is I, I I know it's having a crazy moment right now. The first Marvel Upper Deck was making Marvel cards for years. They've been around for a long time. But those sets in those sets are going up, but they have not exploded like the Chrome markets have. I think with the, I guess the fact that you've got Topps taking over all sports licensing, they also have some of the biggest IP licensing with Disney and everything Disney owns. You are getting to the point where it's not just the card market, it's the tops market, it's the Fanatics market. So yes, there will always be collectible cards and there will be other collectible items, but when it comes to what is the collectible card, I think more and more people are starting to think, oh, it's Topps or Topps Chrome. Topps. Chrome is their flagship of flagships. That's the one I need to have. So yes, while I agree that's not the rookie, I think there's still some value in going after their first Chrome card. There definitely is. By the way. That's not. It's just. I don't think it's as dramatic as it is on the side you see. Like I think it's way. That is way more a point over there. Two guys reach out to scn. Hey. Two big cards to a gold Misarowski. He's like, dude, I never buy raw stuff. The stuff I sell on our ebay lives. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm pretty honest about. But in general, no. I feel like people are selling especially big cards on ebay because they don't expect them to gem. I think most people at this point in the market are like, hey, if this is a big card and I thought it was perfect, yes, I would grade it. So I. I buy with the ex. Expectation that it is not going to gem. That's it. Yu-Gi-Oh And then I don't complain, by the way, if you grade, it comes back in eight. I don't want to hear about as ebay seller. Like, be honest about the. The only caveat I would add to that. It's just the only cabin I think you would probably agree is most of the time that's the case. Except for right now when PSA and Beckett and others are shut down. That's the only difference. That's fair. Like a 20 card, I maybe would have graded before because PSA 10's worth 100. I'm not grading because it's not worth it now. Sure. But even then, I just can't. Great. So I know typically obviously there's going to be less than like a tops authenticated autograph, but what's the thought about, you know, do we think collectors might move closer to these as cards keep going up in cost? So like the one I was looking at recently, for example, was the 1980 Bird Birthing and magic card. Obviously not autographed coming out, but like autographed. Now looking Beckett. It's got a pretty good market. So I just wanted to get your thoughts on that. Obviously My rookie question from last March isn't really relevant at this point, but I appreciate you guys. Still a quality question. Yu-Gi-Oh I would just say this. I think there's a huge market for it. Here's where people get confused though. They see, hey, in person autos are going up. The card he mentioned, that card is awesome because you cannot pull that out of a pack. Autographed. What I don't have use for though is hey, here's a 2024 Prizm Joe Burrow card. That was an IP Auto. When I can just pull them out of the pack. Yes. So, so there's a big, there's still a market for that but it's never going to be that desirable because the guy's like, I just want the real thing. Yu-Gi-Oh For autographed hall of fame rookie stuff like that. And older where there was no autograph available and you've seen that's been a pump. That's been a, a topic that has been pumped by everybody, including this show. I was huge into those a few years ago. Then they spiked and I haven't really bought a lot but I bought like the Barry Sanders, the Jim Brown, the Kareem the Bird Magic. I have a nice copy of the Griffey Upper Deck. I've probably 10 or 15. There's a bunch of other smaller ones I'm not thinking of. It's an awesome market. It's never going away. But it doesn't mean that just IP in general is a great thing. Okay. In person. I, the, the in person market. I would be very curious to know if someone's ever done this data. But remember was it late last year when the whole scamming thing came out like the big operation from Indiana like where the took his life and all that stuff. I'm very curious of since that was brought to light. If you see in person autos on ebay or wherever they're selling, if they have gone down in value compared to before that I don't think so. I, I, I, Yu-Gi-Oh Those are all Certified autos. By the way. That guy, he has fake stickers. But that's what I mean. Like I don't trust today I do not trust that. Well, when we talk to the guy and he's like, Yu-Gi-Oh some of the audience they compare to are the ones that I did. It's like he had fakes as the example. Maybe the auto. I know, because it's like, oh, I know what his auto looks like. Well, maybe the auto is the one that he did, you know, so that's my only concern. But, Yu-Gi-Oh I agree, man. That went shockingly well. That was a. One of our best, best episodes ever. I'm gonna go ahead and say it's gonna keep doing that. Just keep doing that. Just replicate that. So that card, he's like, can you do a reaction video? Yu-Gi-Oh it was great. Yu-Gi-Oh well. And it was all him. I don't know if it's Goldin It was on ebay, though. There was an ebay sale for 25. 3. Oh, really? This one, it was at Goldin on ebay, I believe. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh Goldin was the seller. It says MC Sports Cards. I don't know either date on that 18th two days ago. Either way. Interesting. Okay, maybe I misspoke. Either way, it's 25. Three is what that sold for. But. But the point about it was the previous, I guess, sale selling 30 days ago for 33,000. So going down in value makes me wonder, like, what. Or I actually am curious. What were your thoughts about that? Do you think it's like a one off? Because we talked about that. No, it's not. Not because it's his best rookie, but because it was an established sales record with that rookie. It was readily available. And a lot of guys bought that leading up to the national, thinking, I can flip this at the national and some probably did. But this is one you just hold. I wish I sold mine at 35. I would have gone and bought it this week. I didn't. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh But this is one where you just say, so what? And if you bought it at 33, don't think about it. Just leave it alone. Exactly. It will come back up. Exactly. It's having a dip. Michael Jordan's gonna have a dip. The gretzky cards, which have finally started really moving. Those will have a dip. Just buy what you love. Hey, those are good principles. Those are not principles that apply to every situation. This is a complex hobby. It's a complex market. So you cannot. One size does not fit all. You could buy Michael Jordan, who is the epitome of goats and basketball, and lose money and have it be a bad buy. You could do the same with Gretzky, with Babe Ruth, with. With Tom Brady. There is a. There are a lot of factors that go into when you should buy and what your motivation is to buy and what is your end goal when buying that card. This is just one prominent example because everybody, including us, has been talking about it. So I thought it was worth a follow up of, hey, it's now down a huge percentage. Don't overreact still. And stop listening to people who tell you blindly to buy things or sell things. Yu-Gi-Oh that's why, like I told. I talked to you about this card. I had a PSA 9, sold it high. I didn't sell my 10. Now some people would look and be like, oh, you could have made 10 grand selling the 10 and go rebuy it. Maybe, but I also have to be able to go out and buy it for 25, 26,000. I wasn't taking the chance with a PC card. Well, and the. The flip side of that is true too. What if it was like a few months ago and it was half the price? It's like, oh, you could have sold then and you would have been out. Whatever would have gotten back. Correct. You Never were able to buy it, so. Yu-Gi-Oh there's no way. You're gonna make plenty of mistakes. Who can't just keep moving. Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. There you go. That's your show. I thought it was an excellent show. I do think we keep the voicemail. You said with YouTube, it's like, oh, if it's going up, don't change anything. I would say that episode had no trolls, and we're already saying it's one of our best ones. I'm not saying we need to completely change up that format to. To go a lot more troll heavy, which I think is what you might be. Well, I. I just. Because I. We thought it was a good episode. What if the numbers suck? Then I'd say, oh, go troll heavy. I got news for you. The first time, that's like the fifth time. We get it. It's true. Let him say what he was horrible. They used to have guys call me 30 years. Yu-Gi-Oh you're right, though. I would just say this, though. If these numbers come out and stink, I guarantee if we had a guy call in and troll and then we called him back, that would go crazy viral. So I'm not saying that that would absolutely work. I don't know, but sure. I also don't care about the numbers with that. My thing is I thought that was a good show because me and you had a good back and forth. I agree. If, if the numbers suck, by the way, I would still say this is one of our best shows. How often though is that the case where we both agree that it was a really good show and then the numbers suck? I think it's very rare. When's the last time we listened to a show though and we looked at numbers on individual shows? I look at, I look at shows, I don't look at the numbers. I look at the rankings. Like where we rank among other rankings. Yu-Gi-Oh Even then I'm not sure how. How like if you look to the actual download numbers, I think it tells a different story. Like the shows around the national. Access to the download data now that we switched over platforms, like the numbers are on the national. Some of the shows were huge. Go and listen to the show. They were not, they were fine. They were not great. But it was an event around it. Well, and you also know like a lot of people that were listening to other shows probably just stumbled across. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh So. But, but I thought as a standalone, I just like this idea. I think it's cool. And eventually what this can morph into with the stuff we have built in the studio is we go and get the actual phone call. Like, hey, but the phone calls are tough. We do this show in the middle of the day. That would almost have to be a one off SCN special edition on a Friday night. Yu-Gi-Oh We come here at like 7pm and we literally do live calls. That would be kind of fun. Well, you know, tape calls. I mean radio shows do it. They do it during traffic time. Yu-Gi-Oh So it's like either seven or five drive time.
