Do We Even Like The Pokemon TCG Anymore? | Uncommon Energy Episode 214

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Uncommon Energy podcast. On this week's episode, we're going to be talking about some announcements that happened for things that are coming in the next season. Some pretty exciting things for sure. Next up, we'll be talking about do Chip and Azul dislike the Pokemon tcg? There's a new study that says so. We're gonna look at the data on this week's episode. We will of course have guess that flavor text everyone's favorite segment to the podcast. And then finally, we're gonna wrap up this week by talking about some of the stuff that is going to be happening at the World Championships. They just made a bunch of announcements today about some of the things that will be happening and also put out the event map. So we're going to be taking a look at that and just the general scope of what the Pokemon World Championships is going to look like this year, alongside, of course, Pokemon xp. And then we are going to wrap up this week by, as always, doing our bonus episode exclusive to YouTube channel members and Spotify subscribers. My name is Trippert. It's been good, Chip. It's been good. A lot of the same old. I didn't do as much streaming this week. I didn't stream as much. A little bit of a break, a little bit burnt out on the format overall. Just a bit. A lot of Dragon Pulse fatigue and obviously, like, there's just like less going on. Even if, like there was. If we, if we at least had. If we had major shirts going on right now, it'd probably be a little bit less feel a little bit less. People would be coming up with new things, new things would be happening. Or maybe not. Maybe it should be a lot of Dragon Ball dominance and we'd see stuff like crustal winning tournaments because that kind of makes sense in the current landscape of things a little bit. But Yu-Gi-Oh I haven't been doing a whole ton streaming recently. My hair is getting pretty long. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. I might get a haircut before Worlds. We'll see. I might not haven't really locked anything in, but to wait and see. But Yu-Gi-Oh I guess one more thing I'd mention is that I will be at Worlds, not competing. I don't have my World's invite. I will Be there as a partnered creator. So I appreciate shout out to Pokemon for that opportunity. I'll be doing some meet and greets there on Saturday and Sunday. So if you one-of-one meet me while I'm at Worlds, that'd be the best times to do it. So I'll be around on the event Fleer at some points as well, but I will be in those. In those locations at those times on Saturday and Sunday during my meet and greet hour. So if you want to meet me, say what's up? That would be the. The time to do it, but that's my week. What about you, Chip? What have you been up to? Yu-Gi-Oh not too much going on. Announcement just did come out. I am casting at the World Championship, so I'll be there as well in a slightly different capacity to Azul myself alongside a bunch of other talented folks. So very thankful to Pokemon, of course, for having me out for another World Championships. And it's going to be a great weekend. I'll be casting alongside the legend Kyle Pukasukovich, which I am always excited for. Gonna be a great weekend for sure. So looking forward to that. I mean, I think we're gonna talk some about like the setup at Worlds. We're gonna look at the maps and stuff that they just put out today. But man, I cannot wait to see what the arena on Sunday is gonna look like and like what the vibe in the room is gonna be. I mean, dude, it's just. It is going to be so sick and I am so glad that I get to be a part of it. It is going to be so cool. I'm. I can't wait. Yu-Gi-Oh definitely. The thing that I'm looking forward to the most as well is just going to be the. The finals on Sunday in the arena. What they got planned because they definitely like outdid themselves compared to previously years last year and kind of put on a spectacle that I think. I mean, it was like. It went kind of viral, to be honest. What they had going on with like the. Specifically on the TCG where they had the cards on the. Oh my gosh. And the players with the projectors or whatever that was. I don't even know exactly what they were using there. But I, I remember after Worlds, I watched a video that Mahone made. There was like takeaways from this year's World Championships where he just kind of yapped for a few minutes about like all the different things that happened at Worlds. And one of his things was, holy crap, we esports now. Like, that's what it felt like last year. And that was such a huge step up from what it had been previously. Yu-Gi-Oh Like, I cannot wait to see, dude, what they've got in the store. It's going to be so cool. Definitely gonna be exciting, for sure. But also, other than that, I mean, this week, the finale of House of the Dragon did happen. We actually talked about it a little bit as well before we started recording because I know you watched it as well. Yu-Gi-Oh it was pretty sweet. I'm not gonna l lie. I've been thinking about it a lot because, dude, it was just so, so good. It makes me want to go back and, like, watch the old seasons of the show to, like, just remind myself some of the earlier moments and kind of see, like, how the characters got to the point that we just saw them finish up. Yes. It's been. I've seen. The only time I've seen people talk about the show as well. I feel like people have been saying it's like, disappointed or it's like, not that, but I feel like the show's been really good and this season specifically was really good. I also, it feels like, I feel like, is the show a little bit under the radar right now? Like, I feel like I never see anyone talk about it on Twitter. Like, I do. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. Some of that stuff is, like, kind of individual. My algorithm isn't just. Yu-Gi-Oh right. But, like, I was surprised. I didn't see like a single spoiler for it literally, at all throughout. Literally. I don't think I've seen a single tweet about the show this whole season, which was a little bit of a surprise. I don't know if it's gonna have like a. I don't know, a big moment with the next season where all of a sudden it's going to be like, a lot. Become a lot more popular with that. I don't know, maybe the show's just not as popular as I kind of assumed it was because it is a Game of Thrones show. Yu-Gi-Oh Let's see. Season one. Oh, I'm just looking at IMDb. It has 662,000 episode ratings for the 10 episode season, and the lowest rated episode is like an eight. And there's 9.1, 9.3, 9.3, and then a bunch of like, mid eights. Season two, a lot of low eights. And then this is where it dips down to like 7.6, 6.3, 6.5, and that's 400, 000 episode rankings. This is an eight season eight episode season and season three. 254, 000 episode rank ratings. So a good bit less than the 400, 000. Now granted, it's been out for a lot less time. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh two years less, I guess. But the first two episodes, 9.2, 9.3. And then it dipped down pretty low in episode four, five and six of the season. 7.5, 7.6, 7.6, and then 9.1 for episode eight, which was pretty, pretty great. Like we said, I thought this season was great. I don't know. I'm just excited to see. Dude, it just makes. I loved Game of Thrones when the series was out, but the final season was just so bad. And it's such a, like, cliche to dunk on the final season of Game of Thrones, I feel like now at this point. But, dude, watching how great this show has been makes me so sad for how. How great Game of Thrones was and how poorly it ended, you know? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, it could happen again. I don't think it will. It's a little bit of a different situation where they, like. I mean, there's less material for them to work off of. Right. With this show, so they have to kind of come up with it by themselves. But they did that the whole time. Whereas Game of Thrones, they had a lot to work off up until like, the last two seasons. Right. And then that's where they had to kind of come up with their own sort like their own material to like, close things. Yu-Gi-Oh they ran out of source material in this situation. They're working with less to begin with, and it's already been great so far. So the chance that they mess up the final season is, like, way lower. Also, the cast is, like, so good, man. Literally every single actor in every single role is so sick. Raniera is great, dude. I. It is so easy to hate Alicent. Her actress does such a great job with just like, dude, man, I don't know. It's Matt Smith who plays Damon. Is. Yu-Gi-Oh Great. Yu-Gi-Oh Is so good. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Definitely a great show. I mean, HBO has been pretty. Pretty consistent at doing that stuff with, like, their big, you know, flagship shows or whatever. They're all pretty good stuff. They're running a good ship over there. All right, one last thing before we get into the bulk of the episode. This is a little bit of a shot in the dark, a bit of a beacon. I didn't tell Aul I was going to do this, but I am looking for these Beckett squares that Were sold on the Pokemon Center a few years ago to hopefully wear at the world championships. If you have these, even if you've used them, if you've worn them, shoot me a message on Twitter or something. I'm very interested in buying them. I have the matching ties, but for some reason back then, I did not buy the Beckett squares that went along with them. I was like, when am I ever going to wear Beckett squares? Well, they want us to wear ties and Beckett squares at Worlds this year. So I've got these ties, but I need these Beckett squares. If somebody has them, please, please send me a message. I would love to buy them. Is it. Are they Charizard? They are Charizard, Yes. All right. Yu-Gi-Oh there you go. Chip. Chip needs a Beckett square. Someone, someone help him out here. Send them a. I've looked like on ebay and done reverse Google image searches and stuff. They just like don't exist online anywhere. But I did find this money clip on ebay. I don't know what this money clip originally sold for. I can't imagine it was too much. But someone's selling them for like a hundred bucks. This little Charizard, tiny little money clip. A hundred dollars. And they've sold six of them. They just stocked up and they've just been hoarding them. Well, is that like part of the. Oh, no, those are like all separate. They're all separate individual things. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh Yes. You don't have the Beckett squares. Yu-Gi-Oh So you bought the ties, but not. I have these two ties. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I guess if someone has the cufflinks in the. The tie Blue Ice well, I. I'd probably want to pick those up too. All right. That is crazy. You're saying that. I mean, every little Pokemon trinket, if it sells out, I mean, the price goes up in tremendously on it. Yu-Gi-Oh The. The money clip was a hundred dollars or whatever. Yu-Gi-Oh It's ridiculous. Oh, all right, well, let's go ahead and get into our episode. And the first thing we're going to talk about this week is some new stuff coming out next season. But I guess first off, we'll talk about some of the registrations that went live last week. So the first four tournaments registration went live. And I actually think Louisville regionals goes live today. The day that we're putting this episode out, so make sure you're ready to sign up for Louisville. I don't know if anything else, like, globally is going live today as well, but Louisville definitely is, so. But it did seem like Baltimore Regionals registration went pretty quick. I tried to see if I could register just out of curiosity at 708, and it put me in a queue to wait for, like, the unsold spots that were remaining. So, like, there wasn't any open spots available at 708, but there was like a chance I would get unsold spots if I waited. I obviously didn't wait around to do it because I wasn't looking to play at Baltimore, but it did sell out pretty quick. It looks like I just went ahead and checked for anyone who's listening who maybe wasn't aware, but it looks like just Louisville is going live this week, but other stuff should be going live pretty soon too, because I don't think there's like literally three events three weekends in a row after Louisville, so other stuff should be going live pretty quick. Yu-Gi-Oh from what I. From what I heard, it seemed like it didn't sell out instantly. Like, it seemed like you could still get like a Baltimore ticket within, like five minutes past that. So those are the type of situations where it's like, you know, you truly have no excuse to not have gotten your spot. All you have to do is set an alarm, show up, let's get on your computer, get on your phone a minute before it goes live, and you would have been able to get into Baltimore if you wanted to. We would of course want more seats, right? Like, we want more. It does seem like it is quite a bit bigger than last Baltimore we had though, right? You do say that. I'm gonna go ahead and read this. This is one of our bonus episode questions that comes from one of the YouTube channel members, and I think it's relevant here. So let's just go ahead and insert this discussion into the main episode where Jarrett over on YouTube said, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills on the registration stuff. It's awesome that they're starting to post on the Play Pokemon accounts, but since they've never done it before, I didn't think to check it. I try not to use Twitter slash Facebook too often, so around signup times I'd gotten used to going to gaming gens feeds and there's nothing on theirs as of nine hours before the signups. RK9 doesn't have Baltimore listed. They put Frankfurt up this morning, commented this the day that we put the episode out. So the day that Baltimore registration went live and I checked yesterday and saw Brisbane, the official event website for Baltimore still lists registration coming soon. No price or link. The Play Pokemon app has Baltimore listed as announced and you can't click on it for more info. How is it so hard to get all of these up days in advance? I knew it had to be today based on the timing, so I've been watching for it. But honestly, if I hadn't watched the POD first thing this morning, I wouldn't have known, despite checking four different official sources, because I didn't see the new source that they just started putting info on. They know these signups are competitive and sell out instantly. If you're putting that info up at registration time, it's already too late. These registration pages are basically just form letters with small amounts of new info distinct to this particular event. I don't understand why it Goldin have gone up a week or even two days ago. Yu-Gi-Oh I think that's all really fair, actually. I will say I think there's no obligation for like rk9 to tweet anything out. They're kind of like, like StubHub, right? Like if you have a concert going on, StubHub's gonna sell your tickets or however that works. Actually, stuff up might just buy the tickets and resell them. But just like theoretically, if they didn't. Arcanine is just like the platform that sells. And Arcanine was last season. They were tweeting out pretty consistently. That should never be the expectation for RK9. It's always. It should be. Unless, I mean, if TPCI is not tweeting it out, they should. Someone should be. So if TPCI is going to tell Arcanine to do it, sure, it's good to see the Play Pokemon account tweeted out. But you're right, all those other sources should have the information. And the event should probably be posted on Arcanine with the time and date where registration is going to go live. Probably at least two weeks in advance, right before registration goes live at the very least. But Yu-Gi-Oh Gaming Gen should still be tweeting it out, right? They're the tournament organizer for the event. It makes no sense for them even to retweet Play Pokemon tweet. As long as they did that, I don't know if they did, so I don't want to claim they did. Gaming did tweet eventually. But Jarrett's comment here came like the morning that we posted the episode and which was the morning of registration. Gaming Gin did not tweet anything until the day of registration a few hours before it happens. Yu-Gi-Oh I think that is unexcusable. Like, Gaming Gen should tweet immediately when the information is available of when registration will be going live. Yu-Gi-Oh they tweet. Tweet once or two times in the week leading up to it as well. At 2pm, five hours before registration went live, they tweeted for the first time about it. Yu-Gi-Oh So, Yu-Gi-Oh that's unacceptable. Obviously the whole app has been a mess and that needs more improvement still. So, Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, the. The place to go or actually, I don't know, where's the place to. I mean, follow Play Pokemon on Twitter. But then Trainer Championships is a place to check. But it's not like an information feed, so it's not like. Yu-Gi-Oh like, I don't know, you could check in a daily. I don't even know. It's like. It could just be like the first one of the season, like getting some kinks out of the system. But, you know, they've been doing this for a lot of years. I can't really give them that much room on that. But Yu-Gi-Oh the only thing I'll say is, like, it's good. It's out of Arcanine's hands to like, seemingly be obligated to do it like they were last season. Obviously TPCI should do it themselves or have someone do it, but now it seems like TPCI is kind of taken over with the Play Pokemon account putting stuff out there. Now we have this Trainer Championships website, but the TOS individually should obviously be getting that information out to the public as much as possible through their communication channels. So. And it's just not hard. It's just like. I don't know, it's just like another. It's just another thing to be frustrated about. But I definitely feel you on it for sure, because it could be done quite a bit smoother if you had the information. It was probably pretty easy to get a ticket. But Yu-Gi-Oh you're. I think you're correct. The information is still not being spread. I think it's good that they put it on Twitter and stuff, but I don't think they should expect that. Like, that shouldn't be a requirement to know about when registration happens. Like, if you're checking the official website. Like if you check the official website Wednesday morning before you went to work or something like that and saw nothing was there, you wouldn't think anything about it and then you check the next morning, you're like, wait, registration went live last night. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, Yu-Gi-Oh it definitely needs to be up more than you said. Two weeks, I think even like a week at least would be fine. But two weeks, obviously more time is better. Putting it up just a few hours before. Not really putting the information where specifically. Just like, you Goldin There was no link to click on. On our. If you just checked Arcanine Labs, there was nothing. Oh, sure, Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh On Arcanine, Yu-Gi-Oh Which is like the place, you know, like going to StubHub, you can least click on a link for an event before pre sale, you know, happens or whatever. Just to know. I think we commented on that as well. Last week we went to Arcanine and we're like, wait, there's no. All that was there was Brisbane. Yu-Gi-Oh all that was there. Yu-Gi-Oh was Brisbane with its information. Nothing else had information there. And the information's been available for how long has it been available? Was it. It was only available for like five days, though. It should just be up there immediately. There's like, why is it not just up there? Yu-Gi-Oh as soon as you. As soon as like everything's locked in and the information is shared anywhere, it should be shared everywhere. It should be like. I mean, I could see RK9 maybe not wanting to flood their feed, right. I say, like, they're kind of separate from it. So like on RK9 specifically I could see them, but it could be on the website. At least they don't have to tweet about it or. Can I. No, Yu-Gi-Oh that's what I'm saying on the. Even on the website is what I'm saying. Like, I don't know how they want to operate their thing, but that's what I'm saying. Like they're. They're kind of like not at fault at all, is what I'm saying. Like this is just fully on TPCI and gaming gen to make sure that information is shared in the right locations in a timely manner and especially once the information is out there should be shared through all reasonable information feeds. Also, I will say there were some theories in the. This is a total change of subject. But, you know, last week we talked about, you know, the Pokemon that they chose for each of the locations. One of the theories was German knives are very famous. So that could be why Aegis Slash here was chosen as the Pokemon for Frankfurt. But we've got the Kangaskhan for Australia, the Kingdra for Brazil, where, like, you know, Receive here. We're diving and all that is very popular and Corvinite, of course, for the Baltimore Ravens. And then even when they tweeted this week, I guess a nice little segue into our next topic, they tweeted about Louisville regionals registration going live. I got a horse here, of course, the Kentucky Derby. Very famous horse racing, a big part of Kentucky culture. So they're keyed into it, man. Love to see the little Easter eggs. Yu-Gi-Oh Keyed in. Yu-Gi-Oh I had no idea what the. Until you said, I had no idea why there was a horse there. I was like, what's this Pokemon name is. That's Rapid Ash. Okay, okay. Why there was a Rapidash there? My bad. Gotta keep it on your. Gotta keep you on your toes, you know? Wait, is this Rapidash have a horn, or is that its other ear? It has a horn, doesn't it? It. It does have a horn. Yep. I don't know if I ever recognized Snow said before. It's kind of like a unicorn. That's what they're going for here. But it's like much of Rapidash's lore similar to a unicorn's lore. Like unicorns, like Zebra rare creatures that are hard to find. But that's not true for Rapidash, is it? I got no clue. You want me to go look up the Pokedex entries of Rapidash? I guess I was just curious because, like, I was like, it has the horn, so I feel like that has to come from unicorns. Right. But then, like, its original Pokedex entry from Pokemon Red, very competitive. This Pokemon will chase anything that moves fast in the hopes of erasing it. No, it doesn't really have anything to do with unicorns. Let me see if any of these say anything about the horn. I maybe, like, noticed it before. Just I had never really thought about it. But then it's like. I mean, the connection here has to be that I feel like, for sure, a lot of these Pokedex entries talk about very specifically how it can run at a top speed of 150 miles an hour, which is really fast. Yes. I mean, I imagine unicorns are probably, like, decently fast as well. Like, horses in general are pretty fast. They're in the same family, so, like, very much adjacent to horses. So I don't. They're that fast, though. I don't think they're as fast as the Rapidash. It is both the. Oh, I guess regular Rapidash is the fire horse Pokemon and Galarian Rapidash is the unique horse horn Pokemon. Oh, Galarian Rapidash looks like. Like a lot like a unicorn though, right? I didn't really think about that one. Yu-Gi-Oh but the Glaring Rapidash was not a thing when Rapidash was made. Correct. So they expanded into the unicorn lore with Glaring Rapidash. I wonder if they had. There's no way they had the idea of like the alternate form Pokemon. Like when were those first mentioned in a. Like, they were never pre mentioned in a video game. Were they? Not before they came to me that I know of. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. I wonder if they already had that like pre loaded as an idea. I said that kind of stuff does exist like in nature though, right? Where there is like regional versions of different. Yu-Gi-Oh Animals. Yu-Gi-Oh different animals look different depending on where they exist in the world. Yu-Gi-Oh Oh, one thing I noticed when you were. When you brought up the. The casting, the talent. Who is the. Who's usually the host of Worlds. Is she not doing anymore? one-of-one Prosser? Yu-Gi-Oh she is. I think this is on. The website Worlds. I don't think that there's been like a social post for you, but I believe it is on the website. I just want to make sure. Pokemon xp. It's about a league live on the Uncommon Energy podcast. No, no. I definitely knows everything, folks. We all knew he knew everything. Every time he has all the secrets, he could make the changes to the Pokemon TCG1. He could ban Dragapult. He chooses not to. Can you believe this? You're ridiculous, dude. I swear I saw this. Where is the stuff about the experience overview? Have to cut this whole part of the. Nope, nothing to cut. Because it exists here somewhere. I literally. I did see this today. Oh my gosh. Where is it? There it is. Okay. Pokemon XP stage hosts. Oh, you can see one-of-one Prosser, one of the stage hosts. We'll still be at Worlds for Pokemon xp. Yep. Yu-Gi-Oh In a different capacity. She's been doing Worlds and Naic. Am I trolling with us? No, she's. She was. She's an ac. She's not. Yu-Gi-Oh she's not been at the last couple Naics, but she's been at worlds for like 10 years. Since. I think since 2016. Quite a while. Yu-Gi-Oh quite a while. I remember it was always. That was like one of the first moments for me where I was like, how are we getting. Because she. She's like, before doing any Pokemon stuff, she did a lot of Starcraft and stuff. That's what I knew her from originally. So before she even started working Pokemon events, she was doing like Starcraft and stuff. So when she came over to Pokemon stuff. I was like, are we becoming esports? Is this like the. That was like the first thing for me where I was like, she does. She usually does esports events. So we esports now. Yu-Gi-Oh Speaking of stuff happening. Oh, wait, no, that's not what we're talking about yet. We're talking about the new season stuff still. This would have been a good segue, but no, a big announcement that happened this week is that there will be official broadcasts for select championship series events in Latin America. Spanish and Latin American, Spanish and Brazilian, Portuguese. So these will be tournaments in Brazil and Mexico, respectively, will be streamed on the official Play Pokemon channels. Very cool to see that finally happening. I think it was just a matter of time and glad that that time is now. Yu-Gi-Oh definitely. It's been one of those things where it's kind of like we knew it was probably coming, especially after last year when they had like. It was like official, unofficial. They had a couple streams at the end there for like a couple of the Mexico regionals. Right. They weren't exactly official streams, but there was like, they were like, more official than what we had had previously. So then, like, this time around or this year, it's like, not a surprise. Like, we knew it was coming. We knew it was coming. It's like they're gonna start actually doing more official streams at the Latin American events. And I feel like probably doing the ones in Mexico probably makes like, it's a little bit easier for them to handle than doing the ones in Brazil. Although they are doing. I think they're doing all the Mexico ones. Right? Is that. And then two of the ones in Brazil, I believe, for the regionals. So the three Mexico regionals will all have official streams. And then the two. I think I saw Pablo tweet about it B. On the season calendar, it tells you which events will be live stream. So if you go to Latin America, the ones with this little I didn't even notice that before bit right here are ones that will be live streamed. Okay. Yu-Gi-Oh there we go. And it looks like all three in the Mex in Mexico. And then couple of the other ones actually is. That's more than three of the other ones, isn't it? Am I trolling? Maybe I just miscounted. Oh, there's Latin or Laic is one of them, obviously. Yu-Gi-Oh I think I did. I think I did just miscount. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's six total. But one of them is Laic. But they are going to be, like, mentioned in those Regions, native languages, which I think is a good thing. Right. Appeal to those audiences. Yu-Gi-Oh But just another thing with it is just to reiterate, you know, we see it. We saw it so much whenever Azul got Beckett up to cast that people were like, oh, dude, they're sniping Azul because he was taking so many of their viewers from the CO streams. And that's not. They don't care. They just want more people to be watching. Pokemon. Yu-Gi-Oh they want more people to be watching. And so the co streams will be a big part of that for the rest of the world. Who doesn't speak Latin American, Spanish and Brazilian, Portuguese. So I didn't even actually realize that was part of it. I think it's actually really cool that they're doing that. I mean, and that creates, like, an opportunity for them to expand upon it further and have like an English slash and then have the other local language. So having like two. I mean, that's like having double streams of the same footage. I don't know how far, how many years away we are from that, but hopefully we eventually get there as well. Yu-Gi-Oh I didn't actually realize that was going to be in the local language and not in English, but that's Zebra dope. And then, Yu-Gi-Oh like you said, that's a huge opportunity for anyone who wants to co stream it in. I mean, English for the most part. Right. That's like the big one to co stream it in. So I think very, very cool. It's very cool that they're finally getting there. I think for the community. Felt like they were lagging behind. I do as well. I think it would have been cooler to see them have done this sooner. Yu-Gi-Oh But we're here now. We. It's happening. And hopefully this just grows to them eventually streaming all Latin American events and then eventually they hopefully make their way to Australia. Australia is still lacking in that department. We just finally saw, like some more grassroots stuff for the TCG side of things this last season with Melbourne. I think BGC and Go had been being. Having the grassroots stuff for a while, so we'll get there. Also some of the other countries in Latin America as well. And in South America. Yu-Gi-Oh getting streams out to, like, Peru and Argentina for their special events, special championships, all the Latin American majors at some point. Another thing that was revealed is the celebratory fanfare Ace trainer card, which is all we'll be getting. I will not be having that many championship points. Chip, Come on, dude. I should have just gone to a couple more league Cups or just done better in the tournaments I played in, I guess. So you have a goal this year then, right? Like this is going to be. I mean, I kind of came into last season being like, Yu-Gi-Oh I'd like to go to it. And then I went to like one league cup and like two league challenges all year. So not to. I mean. Yu-Gi-Oh the A trainers are cool. Not to bring up a downer with this news, although this isn't like any that big of news. Right. We knew the A trainer was coming back, but didn't they say they were going to do more with the A trainer program this season? They swear they said they did, but they. They did do a little extra, but it's not much. Remember we talked about this. There's expanded upon who could get the Ace Trainer card right now. The Latin American now. Brazil specifically. No, no, there is other. There's like a. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh you get like the PTCG Live reward, I think. Yu-Gi-Oh true, true, true. They did, but it's not. It's not much. It's not much. It was like bare minimum changes, I would say, say. I think still more could be added to this for sure. Still more. More to be done. Yu-Gi-Oh Rewards. Celebratory fanfare. I think exclusive cosmetics like that earned in real life, like added to TCG Live. I think that's really cool. Like, I would think it would be cool if like you one-of-one an AIC and you got like a trophy emote or something in the game like that no one else could have or like winning worlds. Right. Like, those exist in Pokemon Go. I think that would be cool, but it's not like. It's not like. Like they said there would be more for the program. Right. That doesn't like really fit that bill. It's just kind of like a nice little added bonus. It's not like an actual feature upgrade, you know? Yu-Gi-Oh I feel like there's still like so much more they can do with this and I hope this isn't the. The end. It's been like such A slow build. If there is more, it's like it's taking them a long time to get to what the more is. I guess I was like, I'm still a little bit disappointed by what they've done with this program over the last two years. It's good it exists. I want to keep existing. I'm gonna. I'm gonna play for my age trainer card next season, so. But Yu-Gi-Oh I think there's just like so much potential with the idea around this program. I just want to see them do more with it because I think it's so easy to like give the community what they would want for so little out of something like this. So I just want to see more. That's it. And then the last thing we were going to look at with this is they did release what the regional championships merchandise is going to look like this coming season. For 2027. This was a pretty big hit, I think at the regionals this year. I think they are also coming to Europe. I think that was confirmed in this. Yu-Gi-Oh North America and Europe. So, you know, maybe eventually it'll get to the other regions as well. But you know, moving from just North America last year, now North America and Europe. And for those who don't know they had this line last year they looked a bit different though and they had different Pokemon featured on them. And the idea here is that there's like a Pokemon featured for each of the games. Like this past year we had Gardevoir was like the TCG representative. I don't even know what the VG1 was. But then like Azumarill was the one for Pokemon Go because that Pokemon was really good in Pokemon Go at the time. This year they went with more like all time Pokemon I think for the games. Right. Like Mimikyu I don't think is very good in VG right now. I don't know for sure. But has been very good in the past. Same with Altari Ango and then of course Zoark, an iconic Pokemon in the TCG is still good right now, but far from like the dominant Pokemon compared to like what Gardevoir was for the Pokemon last year. Right? Yu-Gi-Oh been very good historically though, obviously. And then there is the Badoo and Dragapult deck box here which had a lot of people. People were like, dude, they are trolling us with this. But dude. Or is that. Or is that. Or the deck box is the shout to the tcg. No, Zork is definitely a shout to the tcg. So yes, Ulterior Go Zork tcg. Because, I mean, and Zorg is really good. And also will be in rotation next year. Right. When these will still be sold. And Mimikyu has been very good on VG in the past. And Dragon Ball Badoo. So funny. Oh, and sleeves too. There's dragapult sleeves. Yep, Dragapult sleeves. And then, of course, you gotta have a chance to, you know, sell something with Charizard on it. Charizard sleeves. This is a damage counter set, I believe. And to play mats, I do, you know, these look pretty good. I'm not gonna lie. The pin I'll definitely pick up for, you know, wearing on broadcast at some point. And then this hoodie actually is a callback to a very good VG core from the past. Not a team that's good right now, but one that was very, very good. Have you ever seen this core of Pokemon Azul or ever heard anyone talk about it? No, not that. I mean, I've. Landerous Landers is the only one that looks familiar to me. Oh, and also Mega Kanga's gone. Yu-Gi-Oh Cresselia Heatran, Amungus Landeros, Kangaskhan Chalk. Oh, that was the name of the. That was the name of the core. Yu-Gi-Oh For the team. I think this looks a lot better than what they had last. Yu-Gi-Oh I didn't buy anything from last season. For me, it's. Again. Well, it wasn't very memorable. Right. Because I can't remember any of the pieces. But I mean, like, the black shirt, I like. The BG thing is cool. Although I wonder, like. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, I don't know. People are kind of in tune. Yu-Gi-Oh there's a lot of people shouting out the chalk, though. So I was gonna say maybe trying to keep it a little bit more relevant. But I mean, if the. If the. They agree with me. But then this person was like, it's iconic and it goes hard. So. Yu-Gi-Oh but like, how many people actually know what it is? And Even the people who know what it is are like, man, you can't even play that team right now. Like, for the knowers, it goes hard. But how many knowers are there and how many knowers are going to be buyers? You know what I'm saying? But it gives you a chance to be a knower and to educate the non knowers. That's true. But is that going to be enough to convince a non knower that is now a knower? A fresh knower. Will a fresh knower want the chalk hoodie? I don't think. Are you picking up the chalk hoodie, Azul? No, I didn't play then. Like, I wouldn't like if. Now that I know about chalk, it's like, okay, I know about it, but, like, I didn't experience chalk. Why would I get a chalk hoodie? Probably will be one of the better decks once rotation does hit, because it'll be one of the decks that definitely has, like, the versatility of options that usually some of the top decks have. A ton of hype. All pretty quickly. All right, our next topic here. Chip and Azul are falling out of love with the Pokemon tcg. And the data is here to prove it. We actually got tagged in this. This week. A viewer, a listener. Dessi here did a study on the podcast. Listened to all 213 episodes or I don't know if he listened to it or had like a script or something, or a bot or something listen to it and analyze our data or what we said, but determined which episodes were leaning fresh slash fun sentiment of the format or leaning stale slash not fun sentiment on the format over time. And a lot of ping ponging happening here, but a clear line down the middle decreasing. So, Azul, how do you respond to these allegations? Do you hate the Pokemon tcg? No. Maybe just like more critical than I was previously. And it's funny too, because like, when we are coming out of the post Covid, the former was not very good. It wasn't. And look at how positive we were. Yu-Gi-Oh Post Covid 4, it was like really bad. So. And we. Yu-Gi-Oh we went from Palkia into broken Lugia. Am I remembering correctly? Yu-Gi-Oh I think this was broken Lugia. Time frame. Yu-Gi-Oh that makes a little bit more sense. I want to figure out what happened in July of. What was it, 2025, last year. That with this episode. Look at this mega outlier. We were meant around that time. That can give us maybe a reference point. I'm kind of. It was during the summer when there was nothing. It was well after Naic. Right. Dune. Yu-Gi-Oh It'd be leading up to worlds. He also did an analysis compared to the other. A couple of the other big podcasts out there, Tag Team and Shift Gear, with their sentiments as well. So there's that data here represented, if you're interested. We're definitely on the downtrend in comparison, right? A little bit, Yu-Gi-Oh We're just more cynical, you know? Oh, that's true, that's true. They got some new life when they Beckett up Mahone though, right? As part of the crew. They had rejuvenated them. Yu-Gi-Oh I brought back some more youthful energy to the squad, dude. I think like I don't even know when they. This only goes back to 2021. I listened to the tag team podcast and like gosh, like 2018 maybe. Was that when they started 2019? I listened to the podcast pretty regularly. Honestly, back then it was just JW and Riley. Yu-Gi-Oh they've been doing it for. And they kept it going all through Covid as well. Like whenever there's no tournaments, they kept the podcast going. So big props to them for doing that because dude, we took like a couple weeks off because we had nothing to talk about, like two weeks ago or whatever. Yu-Gi-Oh the COVID time that would have. That must have been tough. Maybe they're doing like every other week or something. I can't. I can't imagine talking about Pokemon every week. There's a lot of big online tournaments back then, I guess. Got the players cups, some big limitless tournaments. New sets were still releasing. Right. Nothing was stopping the new cards from coming out. So at least maybe initially there were some like hang ups for like a set or two. I don't remember exactly. But eventually things got back into flow of like, you know, four major sets a year, special sets and all that jazz. So Yu-Gi-Oh that sounds tough though to make that work. So Yu-Gi-Oh big props to them for sure. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't really know how to like respond to the data presented here, to be honest. Yu-Gi-Oh when I saw it, I thought it was just kind of funny. I just hit it with a like and a retweet, I'm pretty sure. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know if there's much to glean from it, to be honest. I don't know. I still like playing Pokemon. I just am. I think I see when Dragon Ball rotates. We'll see what. Let's see what the sentiment is. One Dragon Ball rotate, dude, it's gonna be blue dots all over. Bring. Not like Ice Rider, Shadow Rider, like just the guy, the big white dog thing with the long legs. Because it is like the king of the bountiful harvest or something like that in the games. And, like, grows crops, I believe. I think that's a thing. And it I don't know about luring people into the forest. Luring part does make me think of, like, a ghost type Pokemon. That's a big ghost type characteristic. They're always luring someone to some nefarious end. Let me hear the flavor text one more time. Yu-Gi-Oh So maybe it's actually not the horse. Not maybe it's not the Calyrex, actually. Could it be maybe like Trevenant or something like that? Luring. Luring into the forest, right? It's on the website. But a map up on the website of all the different halls, the things happening. And also tweeted some of the different panels and stuff, some of the stuff that's happening at Pokemon xp. So at Pokemon xp, there's going to be like a. It's basically a stage alongside the World Championships, I guess. Let me pull up the map initially. And there will be a broadcast from the stage of some of the. I don't know if it's the whole time or if it's just some of the things happening, but if we look here at the ground. Nope, not ground level. Where is it? Lower level. You can see this is where the World Championships events will be happening. The stage here. Video game side events Unite Go. And then the TCG play areas. And then through the hall up here, the Pokemon XP stage, where there will be all sorts of different programming with, I think, like sort of like panels and interview. Not exactly interviews, but just like discussions from these people. And there's some cool stuff happening here. You know, people coming from Creatures, the company that makes the Pokemon trading card game. Saito and Kobayashi here, art director and then head of game design at Creatures, respectively. And this is what the event setup is going to be. Campus map here shows you all the different areas where Worlds is going to be actually happening. So I mean, just to kind of put into scale the scope of all of this, think about this area probably similarly to like what the whole of the hall is at, like an AIC or something. Right. It's like the whole hall right there. I don't know, square footage wise. But like that's the similar setup. Right. With. I mean it's gonna be certainly, I guess a little smaller because there's less players. There's also like if they give the players more room as well, like in comparison, but then all sorts of different things happening throughout the whole of the convention center. And this doesn't even have a map for whatever is going to be happening at the arena on Championship Sunday. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Which is like what we, we mentioned earlier. It's probably the thing we're most so excited for is like to see what they do with the arena and how they have all the games set up and all that kind of stuff. It's gonna be pretty cool. How far is the arena from. I think we talked about this, but how far is the arena from the convention center? It's like a 15 minute drive. Oh, really? Yu-Gi-Oh Okay. I want to say I don't know totally for sure, but I'm pretty sure that's what I've heard. Don't quote me on that. All this will be shut down On Sunday then. Right. They have nothing on Sunday. Right. I don't know. Last year at Worlds they still showed. Yu-Gi-Oh Because the arena was connected to. Oh, maybe they'll still have that. Some area for people to go watch the competition, the finals at this venue. If they weren't able to get tickets for. If stuff is still happening as well. Right. And stuff will still be happening. Also. One thing to think about. You're doing a meet and greet on Sunday, right? I am. Yu-Gi-Oh True. So I'll miss part of the. Part of some of the finals. I don't remember the time for my meet and green on Sunday. I'm not gonna laugh. Top of my head. I think that this is. I don't know for sure, but this is the creator zone. So I don't know if this is where, like, meet and greets and stuff are happening, but this might be where Tools posted up right near the Pokemon XP stage. That would make sense, I think. Right. But you can see all the different. Various vendors here. Stuff for all the different games. Pokemon Go stuff, all the different, like, vendors that do stuff with Pokemon. Like, there's Build a Bear Crocs, the pinball, The Pokemon pinball machine that just came out. They got something going on with that. I'm assuming here. Ravensburger, who makes puzzles and stuff for Pokemon Art of Pokemon. There's like, all kinds of things happening here. 30 years celebrating 30 years of Pokemon exhibits, which they've done like a world championships museum in years past. I wonder if they're doing that this year. If that's. That is one of like, the. The questions I kind of asked, like. Because I felt like I hadn't seen any kind of stuff that like, made it like, well, what is the XP part of Worlds? But I feel like some of those things are kind of filling in that gap now of that question I had. Right. An episode. I feel like some of the comments I saw in that episode were kind of shared the same sentiment. They were like, Yu-Gi-Oh it feels like this is just Worlds, but like, what is different but like, I mean, those kind of booths that. That you mentioned, they don't think they had anything. Like there's gonna be like a LEGO booth there that wasn't have been at Worlds last year or anything like that. And then all the. And they got some big names to do those panels that we just talked about talking about stuff. So that's. That feels like that's kind of new for sure as well. So definitely will be a bigger experience. There's not a map of the Espaland Ballroom. I wonder if that's like where the meet and greet and stuff actually would be. Up here. Oh, they also did announce the Pin rally, which is a thing that they've done. The last, I guess was last year. The first year it may have been actually where you can go around and check in and earn certain pins for completing certain tasks at different locations. I know that Brooke and her parents kind of had a fun time doing that last year when they came to Worlds. So could be a fun thing to try to collect all the different pins and see a bunch of the different exhibits and offerings at Worlds. Yu-Gi-Oh honestly, I might need to hit that up. I need to start to fill out my, my pin book for hopefully doing some future casting so I have some options. True. Yu-Gi-Oh There's not like any great TCG representative Pokemon like Flutter Mane and Greninja. Those are all like pretty good VG Pokemon. I mean, Charizard, I guess, right? But Yu-Gi-Oh this is all good stuff to know about what's happening and what the layout's going to be. Again, just gonna be a huge production for sure. A lot of different things. Happening Rayquaza Road outside, it looks like. Like I don't know what all that has to do. There's something called the Pokemon center outpost. Don't know what that means. A Rayquaza trolley. So they're gonna have maybe a cable car or something set up as Requesa. Like an one-of-one to the San Francisco trolleys. Who knows? Makes sense. Well, I can tell Azul doesn't have much to add here. I mean, you got this one, Chip. Yu-Gi-Oh Are you. Yu-Gi-Oh I agree. Oh, man. Do we have in the trolley. Yu-Gi-Oh I wonder if I actually see some of the trolley cards, like fully Pokemon out in San Francisco. You mentioned Rayquaza, but there might be some other ones. Yu-Gi-Oh like other stuff just happening in the city in general, to be honest. Yu-Gi-Oh it'll be definitely curious to see because that was. Are we last year in Worlds. I already forgot. It was a lot in Japan. There wasn't as much in Anaheim. I don't. If I remember correctly. Yu-Gi-Oh we'll see what they do with San Francisco. Theoretically going to be like a bigger. All right, so on Saturday it will be location exhibit, Hall F. Boom. So if you want to meet Azul, lower level convention, Hall F right here. Yu-Gi-Oh so it's going to be probably that. Okay, wait, go back to the pagerette. Oh, there's a time there too. Yu-Gi-Oh I wasn't sure if the time had been an. Oh, but the time is up there completely now. Okay. They didn't have the time. They did not have the times up there before. I think the times just got added. 11:30am to 1:00pm Azul, not gonna lie. That might be prime TCG finals time. Right. I'll make it over there for the rest of it. That would be some pretty unfortunate planning, to be honest, for the TCG competitive dedicated creator to be having his during the TCG Grand Finals. I would be unlucky. What time is. What time is mine on Saturday and was it 3pm on Saturday? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh 3pm Saturday. So that'll be time to get done and then go watch Top Cut. You know, that's like good timing. Yu-Gi-Oh it was perfect timing. You're maybe a little bit unlucky with the Sunday timing. Oh, well, sometimes unlucky work times. Unlucky. Yu-Gi-Oh That'll be the. The two times I'm available for the meet and greets. Saturday and Sunday. Yu-Gi-Oh So those are the times if you're wanting like to say what's up and get pictures and stuff. That's like the best time to do that stuff for sure. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I'll be around like the. The hall at other points as well, but. All right, well, there we go. That's the world's update Azul and where we will be at it. I probably will not leave the main area where like the TCG play area is very often. I'll probably venture out if I have a long break to try to get a view of some of the stuff. But I will mostly be right in there the entire weekend. That's probably where I'll be most of the weekend as well. I'm gonna go around and like check out everything of course, and see everything else that's going on, but I'll definitely be like spectating a lot of the matches, walking around the top tables, seeing people are playing. I mean, unless there's a bunch of Dragon Ball, then I'll probably just go do something else to. Yu-Gi-Oh if it's over 50 day one dragapult meta shares will like goes to the Fisherman's Wharf and does sightseeing instead or something. Yu-Gi-Oh I did. I did. See, I was actually gonna call him out on Twitter and with a funny reply. I hope he's right, of course. But is it Henry Brand tweeted? There are formats where you submit the same 59 for three months and there are deck deck building formats. I think this is the latter. I'm gonna call BS on the tweet, but I hope he's right. Any brand pretty good at the game. Hopefully he sees something about this format that I don't. That's what I would like to like to believe anyways, but I feel like Henry's gonna be sleeping up the same 58 Dragon Ball cards as everyone else. It's a big call out there is all I think I actually did say on a previous podcast. Like Henry is one of the players I would think would not play Dragapult despite him having played it so much recently at recent tournaments. I hope he's right though. I hope he does. He brings something that is not just a Dragon Ball deck. He also told me that he was going to play Mega Greninja at NAIC though, so he played towards 60 at an AIC that is not Mega Greninja. That does feel like the for the deck building format reference or whatever. It does feel like Zork is the deck that can do the most like skill expression through deck building right now. Like you can adapt your list to what you expect the metagame to kind of look like, right? Yu-Gi-Oh definitely. It is one of the. It is one of the decks where you have the most potential. That's what I was saying. Like Zork, kind like Zoric has had the potential to kind of be like the best big deck with a lot of options, but it's just been overshadowed by like Dragapult and Gardevoir. It's basically its whole existence in the standard format. It'll kind of have its potential moment once Rotation hits and Dragapult finally leaves. That's kind of like the, like that has a lot of comeback potential, can do a lot of things, has a lot of cool play possibilities, but it's just been overshadowed. It has, I think it has more options than Dragon Ball right now, but like even though Dragon Ball has less options that it's like far the superior deck.
