Going Where The Cards Take Us - Turn Back The Clock

Hey, everybody. Welcome to another episode of Turn Back the Clock on Sports Card Clubhouse Network. I'm joined with my co host, my friend Adam. Adam, how's it going? Going great. Happy to be back with you here. And we got some. Some fun cards to look at and talk about here today. So actually, yeah, if you're listening on a podcast, you might want to do this one on YouTube or Spotify because you have a video. Because we are. We're going to make it so that you still can listen to it, but we're going to show some cards and the cards are going to lead us right into different topics. So this is a definitely a more visual one today. Yeah, I'm excited for this. I've been getting the idea from. I really do like the podcast slash videos where guys put the work in and put the card on the screen rather than us holding them. And I definitely, since this is a podcast, we will be talking great detail about the card. So you really don't have to go look at the cards. But it'll bring. Every card is going to bring up a discussion and there's cards that I brought on that I wanted to open a discussion up when with Adam. So let's just get right into it. Adam, let's show your first card and talk about whatever you want to talk about. Okay, let me go. I thought we were going to do yours first. I have to scramble here. One second. Oh, we can go mine. Whatever you want. No, whatever's easiest. Let me just share this one. It shares a lot of features here. All right, here's the first one. This is a recent pickup that I haven't showed. See if this works. There we go. Can you see that? Wait a minute. Yes. There we are. So I've mentioned this card many times. This was one on my get list, the 1954 Dandy Mickey Mantle potato chips card in a PSA2. So I bought this one, I think it was about three months ago, right around there. Two, three months ago. And I'm very happy. This is the one I had like, this is one. Let me see if I can make the picture a little bigger here. This was one that I really had in mind as far as like what I. Within the budget. What I think that what I thought I could get, you know, as far as like a low grade. You're not going to find too many high grades of this card anyway because again, it was in potato chips. So. But one that has some, you know, pretty good centering and. And I wanted some staining on it to Tell the story. So this is first card here. Happy to add this one to. Now I have, let's see, one, two, the next one. A little hint. The next card I'm going to show is a Mickey minnow card from 1954 as well. So I have actually three 1954 Mickey Mantle cards. Now that's a good year for Dang for Mickey Mantle cards. And it's a, it's a tougher year, you know, and that besides the. The Bowman. But it's a tougher year with. Without the tops in there. Yes. Let me talk about this card for a minute. It's one of the few Mickey Manels that are non tops or bowman that. I really love this card. And I love it because when I do buy this card one day, if I, if it doesn't shoot up in value crazy where I can still afford it. I love the fact that they're staining and I would definitely want a copy with some potato chip staining. It tells the story of the card. And that's unlike a lot of other cards where I, you know, pack fresh, perfect centering, all that jazz. Of course, I really love that. But this, it's like the Cracker Jacks I want. If I ever buy a Cracker Jack, I want staining on the card. And I would I rather on the back than the front. Yeah, yeah. But even your example right here looks. It's a perfect. That's the specimen I would love to have. I don't think there's. Are there even creases or wrinkles in that thing? I don't think so. No. I mean I actually got it here in front of me. There's maybe a little crease up top. I mean like a little one like corner. Corner creases. Yeah, like on the top border, there's a little, little crease there. But honestly, it was, it was. Sometimes I can kind of just. A card I've been looking for for a while and I, when I see it. Oh, that's the one. You know, it just kind of hits. Yeah, I did the same thing with my 52 mantle. I, you know, obviously I hadn't thought about that card for a long time and when the one that I had, I just saw it, I was like, that's the one. Now I just got to figure out how to get it, you know. But this was the same thing with this one. I was like, that's what I was looking for, you know, and it's within the budget. So I used a lot of the, the money that I made from selling my 94 Griffey Auto Mantle card that I sold for big money. I used a chunk of that money to buy this card, so I was pretty happy with that. I would assume this card didn't cost nearly the same as that one. Right? Okay. Much less. Much less. That's what I thought. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. That's awesome. Not that, I mean, as far as Mickey Mantle cards go from, I mean, think for how rare it is and how cool it is. I still think it's a fairly priced or even maybe undervalued to use a triggering term to some people. But I think it's an undervalued card. Even with the way the prices are right now. Seems like it's going up for sure, like a lot of cards. But I figured I'd jump on it when I. When I saw this one. And yeah, it's pretty, pretty cool to have it in the collection. And it kind of reinvigorated my Mickey Mantle just thoughts and you know, you know, I've collected Mantle for a long time and just adding a new one like this really got me looking through them again because I had taken a little break and I've been focusing on other areas. Tom Brady and Pedro Martinez hadn't really picked up any playing days Mantles in a while. So getting this one really just got me going through it again and just realizing that when all said and done, you know, my Mickey Mantle card collection is what I'm about. You know, that's like the core of what. What I always did and wanted to do. And you know, for me it's like. It's just Mickey Mantle cards say so much about the hobby and everything. I mean, it's just. I love, I love Mickey Mantle cards, man. I love everything about what they stand for and what they mean to me personally with, you know, my dad and everything. And then the history with it was his favorite player and the stories that he told me when I was a kid just got me fascinated by the story of Mickey Mantle. And you don't need cards to like remember people or memories. You can. Those, those are going to happen anyway. But there's something cool about using cards to represent or honor parts of your life, you know, and that's, that's what I feel like Mickey Mantle cards mean to me. Absolutely. Well said. I. Dude, I'm so glad you got the Mickey Mantles theme back because I do feel like you were almost like burned out on Mantle after you went so big. You probably felt kind of nauseous a bit maybe I mean, I'm just speaking on the outside. Like, you spent. You went. You finished the run, and you. You went huge. Like, you have the most incredible mantle vintage collection. Like, it's kind of crazy. And you went all in. Like, you weren't scared. I mean, maybe you were scared, but you. You did it where something I would never do. The moves that you made to acquire your collection like you did, but I'm glad to see it was a big decision to go. Am I. Are you. Are my. Like, am I going all in or am I not? You know, that's kind of where I was. It was like when it came to the 51 bowman and the 52 tops, it's like, yeah, you got a nice mantle collection. And I've. I can. I represented in my collection. But then there's that final step. You're like, are you gonna go for these two? And I decided to do it, and boy, am I glad I did when I did. You know, seeing where things are now and seeing a guy like Caesar Perpino, man, I was just watching his video this morning, which is awesome. Latest video is fantastic. I think it's called baseball card hobby or something like that. But it's just him talking for a half hour, and I love it. But just seeing what he's going through, watching the 52 mantle just continue to climb in price, and it's kind of like he's trying to catch up to it, and I really want him to get that card. So I hope. I hope the right copy can come about, and I hope that some of these dealers that literally buy every 52 mantle and then try to flip it. Take a break for a little bit so Caesar can get one. Okay, guys, calm down. Or give them. Give it to him for the price you paid or something. Let's go. Exactly. Get. Hook them up. Hook a collector up. Do something for the hobby. I love that for you, Adam. I remember when you bought that. That mantle at 52 mantle. It doesn't it feel like. Yeah, I was gonna tell you to put the. Put the picture back up. Yeah, I do love the back, though. I want to show that the backs are really cool. Like when you. When you bought that car to remember you saying too, like, because you put so much time and effort and money into that thing, it's pretty scary to put that type of money into a card. Doesn't it feel good? Like, you. You're almost validated that you bought the card, you own the card, and it's gone up in value. And sometimes for, like, 20 years, you could have bought that card and just stayed in one spot for, like, 20 years where you bought it at, like, this craziest time, and yet it still climbed the ladder. And now I don't. You were on the fence whether you were going to keep that card forever because of the value of that card. I feel I Just looking on the outside, I feel like you might have changed your tune on that. I feel like that's kind of like a forever card for you. Now, has that changed, or are you still thinking, just because it's doubled, does that almost give you more confidence to keep it rather than the pressure to sell it? Because it would for me, yes. And I said it at the time. I said, when I. When I bought it. I think I've even said it on videos that I've been on. When I'm Talking about the 52 mantle, I said, obviously, it's a lot of money, but if there's any card that I have confidence that someday I'll be able to at least get my money back, it's that card. And obviously it's looking good right now. So, again, it's different than going, I'm gonna go spend whatever, 20,000 or 30,000, whatever the number is on something when you're buying a card. I mean, at some point, you know, if it's the right card and things stay strong, you know, in the economy and stuff down the road, which if we have problems in the economy, there's problems outside of cards, too. Right. So I'm just thinking if the hobby's still popular, which I don't see why it wouldn't be that card, you'll be able to get your money back. So in a way, it's, you know, not to use another triggering word, but it is an investment, right? Like, it's. It's. If you're. If you're spending big money on cards, you better have a plan, right? I mean, at least that's the way I'm talking about how I think about myself. I'm talking to myself, basically. If I'm going to spend big money on a card, I. I got to look into the future and go, if you ever need that money back, what are the odds you'll be able to get that money back? When I buy a 52 mantle, I feel very, very confident, and I did at the time, and I do now. It's awesome. I love it. Well, okay, so with that mantle one of yours now. Yeah, let's go to the mantle on mine. Let's go to my Recent, my newest pickup. And it's a. It's a big card. So what we're looking at is a 1956 tops Mickey Mantle in a PSA3MK. Now, I had this card in a PSA8OC, and I sold it. I don't remember when, maybe two years ago, maybe three. Now, I sold it for $5,000 at the time, and it had the OC designation. And I just, I felt like, man, I bought that card for nothing compared to what. I basically bought it for what this card cost me. And this card cost me 1200 bucks. And so I wanted to bring this card up not only because when I saw this card, it was like, you. The bells and whistles went off in my head. I wasn't looking for this card. I actually pretty much gave up on this card because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on any cards at all. And. And the 56, the ones like, I always figured I was going to spend three grand to get a copy that suited my eye. Again, I planned on that, but I didn't think I'd have this for years and years. I just kind of like, okay, I'll work on that later. But this thing just randomly was on ebay while I was looking at something else, other mantle stuff, and I saw this and I go, wow, wait a second. That thing's beautiful. And I looked on the back, if you want to flip it over. I was looking everywhere for the mark. I never found the stinking mark. But then Shane Shoebox Legend and L Rock both found the mark. And it's next to that number 25 on the stat line. There's a little dot and it. Even in my loop, I think it's just a pen dot. That's the only thing I could find. So you can flip it back over so we can look at the front. And that to me, like, when I couldn't find the mk, that was an opportunity. And I know there's a lot of talk about how cards have shot up through the moon and we're all getting priced out. Packs are too expensive, boxes are too expensive, singles are too expensive. I'm always in the background going, no, they're not. Nothing is too expensive. There's always a lane, there's always a way, there's always a loophole. There's always some trick that you could find to find cards that you've been looking for for the price. That was years ago. And for me to find this card for. I won this at auction, so I wasn't Expecting to win this, but I knew that MK was gonna really push people away. Anytime there's a PSA label and it has a designation of PD or OC or MC or any st, people don't want them. And it's always blows my mind that people don't want them because if you buy a card in an SGC slab, you have no idea what you're getting. You buy it in a lower grade, even in fours, you might have a mark on your card. You have no idea. You literally have to hunt for the flaw where PSA with these, these designations always gave me validation when I was buying the designations back in the day because I knew what to look for. And the OC ones, okay, it's off centered. And if it's an 8, I mean the thing is packed fresh things solid. You look at the surface, everything, you know it's going to be clean as a whistle. And so when I saw this three, I go, dude, that's my card. I bid just below 1400 or maybe it was like 1398 or 1401, something like that, not expecting to win it. And I won this thing for 1251 bucks. So for me, there's always an opportunity to take advantage of the pricing, no matter where we're at in the hobby. And I'm not saying I got a killer deal or a horrible or a great deal, but in my personal brain, I think I stole this card for a 56 mantle that looks as clean and nice as this. The image is flawless. I found nothing wrong with it. Bright, it's colorful and, and also what could have saved me as well is the image that PSA scanned. It wasn't bright at all. They don't care. Like everyone says, go look at the cert, look it up, look for the image that PSA does. I do that. Everyone has. I've been doing that my entire life, you know, forever. Since they've been doing the photos in the scans. And I also used to search this, search the cert number to see if old listings had pictures because this picture was terrible. It was all washed out. Because sometimes psa, they'll just scan it and they don't adjust it to. They don't look at the card and then look at the scan to see if it was okay. They probably have settings and they just pop it in, beep, beep, done. Sometimes they're way over juiced, sometimes they're under juiced, sometimes the color doesn't look anything like the card. So the guy had a little short video on his thing and that showed the brightness. But I also just knew looking at the flip, it looked, it was like pink. It wasn't the color of a regular PSA slab. So I did take a little chance, but not really in my brain because I use this. The number one rule I use for hunting cards is I always look at the flip color. You know, if the, if the car's been juiced, if the flip color is different, then the rest of the flips from that generation. And I have all of them and you can look at them and that goes with SGC in the black as well. You do it across the board. But I think that there is no reason to complain about pricing in this hobby. Oh, prices have gone to the moon. Well, go somewhere else. Go start searching in a different way. Like for me, I'm a centering eye appeal. Got to have it. Well, this one's not dead centered. It doesn't have any diamond cut to it. It's a little, little off side to side. And I gave on it, and I'm proud that I gave on it. I'm happy I gave on it. And I'm have to look outside the box on some of these big cards. And that, that's kind of the thing. Like all these guys complain about box prices and stuff, and it's not for kids. It always frustrates me too, because there's Tops packs at Costco. Go to Costco. It's cheap. It's the same price when we were kids, like 20 bucks. You buy a box, you go home. It's tops cards. You can pull one of ones that are worth a million bucks in those things. Whether when we were kids buying $10 boxes at Costco, you couldn't pull anything. So I think there's always entrance. I think there's plenty of places. If you're complaining about pricing, you need to look at a different spot in your collecting lane. Find another lane. So, yeah, I'm stoked when you sent me that card. I think I said two things. Number one, I said it's a, it's a miracle to get that card for that price that you got it for. And number two, it looks better than my PSA 6. So which number two is not. That's not true, but I know it. Honestly, I meant that completely because it's better. My PSA 6 is not great. It's worse centered right to left than yours. Yours, yours is very nicely centered right to left, which what matters the most to me. And top to bottom, it's like perfect. So I honestly Love the look of this card more than my PSA 6. Take away the label, give me yours. From what I like, you know, so. And it's one of the greatest baseball cards of all time. The 1950. I don't care how many exist, the 1956 Topps Mickey Mantle for me is one of the greatest cards that's ever existed. I love it. I didn't mention this, but I actually bought a second copy of this yesterday. No way. What? Shut up. Let's save it for another again. We only got probably 15 more min minutes here. So on this episode I gotta pick up the kids from school. But we'll talk about that one on the next episode. I'm not ready to talk about yet, but I could have a million copies of this card in a perfect world. I love it. I love this card. So it's from one of the greatest seasons a hitter has ever had in the history of our sport. So yeah, just everything about the card it just looks. I love the just everything about this card. All right, let's move on to another one of your cards. Another awesome card. Let's go with another legend, Willie Mays. 1952 bowman Willie Mays. Beautiful. Yeah. So same, same motto, man. Like I wanted this card for so long to go with my 52, but I couldn't. I didn't want to spend the tax dollars on the dead centered one. I bought this like a year ago or something, maybe more. And I saw this pop up and just like the mantle, it shot bells and whistles and it was the card for me and it only the card for me if the price was right and it was at auction. I won this for under $700 and minimum size, not net. I'm like, dude, all day long it's not trimmed, it's this thing's way off centered. But the image is spectacular and the price I got it for was spectacular. And that to me is. It doesn't mean I still truly believe that if you buy the perfectly centered one perfect image, the one that I really, really would have wanted would have been like a PSA 2 to 4. That's my style, you know, looks, I appeal off the charts. But that's going to cost me four times as much as this. And I think those will have the most potential in the future. But what I saw the other day, which was really fascinating and I don't know how much it applies to this card in general because it's so far off centered, but there was that I don't want to promote Mike NBA Slabs. I don't trust that company. I'm okay with the stickers because they're not grading the card itself. They're just looking at. Using their eyes to look at the images. So I'm fine with the stickers, but I'll never grade with them. And I'll probably never ever buy a card graded in one of their slabs. It's one of my main. I just. I don't want to do it because the whole GIA thing and everything, the history with him, that's. I don't know him personally. I just. I'm sure he's an awesome guy. I just don't want to buy from that company as far as that goes. But there was a slab that was brought up, and it had. It was a five. He graded a five. But then in little writing in the middle of it, he said, minimum size. And that got like, the highest price of a five, like, ever. And I'm thinking that could be the future of cards right there. So another loophole could be buying these minimum size cards, and then you send them and get them graded, and they come with a number that's huge. And no one sees the little writing that says minimum size on the front. Whether that's, you know, a good thing or bad thing, I don't know. But if, like, you got a card like Orlando, a 52 man, 52 tops, mantle, you send it to Mike and he gives that thing a nine, and then he puts minimum size in the middle, you might have a $2 million card right there. So there is opportunities everywhere. And this is just another card. I wanted to share an opportunity. Not all is lost just because cards have gone up and the eye appeal movement has taken over. There's always a lane to collect, and I do collect for thinking of future value. And I think having this card at under 700, I can always get that out of it. And in fact, I think I could probably get a decent amount more. So there we go. When I look at this card, I think of a video I saw recently with you, and it was on four collectors with Chris from Missouri. And Chris from Missouri said having a copy of the card is better than not having a copy of the card. And I agree with that. Right. Like, does it have the centering you'd want on this card? No. But guess what? You have the card. So I see, like, obviously you and I are into eye appeal and stuff, but I also like the other end of it too, which is like, I want that card. And guess what? If I get it for the right Price, you're not going to pay the price that you'd pay for a centered copy of this. Right. Then you're not probably spending your money wisely. Right. But if you're buying this card at the price that it should go for in the current market, then like you said, you'll always be able to get your money back out of it. And you have the card and it's an awesome card. So I totally, totally love that point of view as well. I think my buddy Adam vintage Sanctuary said it best. One time said like did a video price to nice ratio. And that says a lot in my brain, especially now with prices going through the roof. Before I was very anal. But I. Let's go to the next card real fast. The Jimmy Jimmy Foxx. And we touch, touch it real quick. I love this card. This is ex. I love cards like this, which has the wear on it, but it's like the border's almost gone in a way. I have many cards like this that they look so good to me, right. Because it's, it's centered, right. Because of the wear. So I don't know what if would, what the centering would have been like. But this is a 1933 Gowdy Jimmy Fox classic card. What do you have to say about this one? I love it. Yeah, this is exactly what you just talked about. And with Chris just owning the card, I bought this card years ago thinking this is like a practice card for when I do purchase my 33 Lou Gehrig, which I did at some point, and my A33 Babe Ruth, which I'll own one day that this card right here. When I bought it, I bought it because it was going at auction and I thought, okay, well, let's see if I can live with this card. And the longer I've owned this card, the more I've fallen in love with it. So there's always that talk of buy the best looking example you could possibly buy. Make sure you buy your one and only copy and make sure you love the card to death. The look of it, so you don't have to look at it and nitpick it. Well, there's another side of that story too, where when I bought this card and I got it, I wasn't so fired up on it. In fact, I thought I would sell it many, many times. But I held onto it and it has grown exponentially on me. And I realized that I could. I. I made me realize what cards I could buy in the future so I could buy a Babe Ruth that looks like this I could buy. You know, my Garrett looks a lot like this example because of this card grew over time. It has a little bit of paper loss in the front. There's no crazy creases and wrinkles, but the back's kind of beat up, but there's no paper loss that stands out. You can see the card. And when people come over that don't know about cards, a lot of people pick this card on the wall because it just looks old. And they're like, that card's sick. And you're like, I look at it, I go, man, I bought that card thinking, I'll just practice with this Jimmy Foxx. I've always wanted the card. It was cheap. Cheap for a Jimmy Fox rookie card, you know, in quotes. So, yeah, that ties into that last conversation with Chris and everything. I love this card. And it got. It has me thinking about a topic that we could have a whole episode on. And we kind of touched on it briefly last time, which is, you know, when we talk about cards, how, like, vintage cards are meant to look circulated and they're meant to look a certain way. And I know part of you thinks that's just the collectors in us reasoning with ourselves, right? So we feel good about the purchase. Honestly, I don't, I feel I cannot express enough how I feel now about. I want my vintage cards to look vintage. I really do. I'm not just saying that because I want to feel good about my purchase and that I save money and stuff like that. I. I heard another podcast recently with Chris from Card Ladder on it, who I love. I love listening to him talk about the hobby. Oh, yeah, I have for years. And one of the things he said was he loves sports cards. History or hobby history? The history of sports cards. And I, I, I do, too. And I, I have for a long time. And for me, if you like, even maybe more than sports history now, it started off where I was, like, a huge sports fan and the history of sports. I could recite all these statistics, and I love the history of sports. Now I feel like I love sports card history even more than sports history. Like, that's how cool I think it is, how we got to where we are right now. And GUESS what? In 1933, there weren't many, if any, people pulling a 1933 Gowdy card and going, ooh, I better take care of this. It's gonna be worth money someday, right? No one, no one thought. My dad used to talk about how when he got Mickey Mantle cards in the 50s and 60s, he just wanted the gum. He didn't even care about the cards. He used to put them in his bike spokes and throw them against the wall. And they didn't think about him as worth any money, and so they didn't take care of him. So it's almost like a card from back then, an old card that was, like, preserved. And it has real white borders. I just, for me, it's like, it's not as cool. It's not as cool. It doesn't tell the history of sports cards. And I get why they're worth more money because technically they're a better condition card. But from here forward, and really for a while now, these are the type of cards I want. Not just because they're cheaper, because I like them better. I really do. Well, I love that sometimes, you know me, I project onto people like, no, you're wrong, you don't. So. But I believe you. Do I want to beat up. Do I want to beat up Junk Wax era card or beat up Tom Brady rookie from 2000 or whatever? Or Pedro card from the 90s that was folded in half? No, because that's not the story of those cards. And in those days, we did know they were going to be valuable or hoped they would, so we put them in the top loaders. So that's the history of those cards. So I want cards that look nice because that's what those cards should look like, right? I mean, that's how. That's how we interacted with them in the hobby at that time. So it's going to depend. Old cards, I think should look old now. I like them centered like this. So if I can get centered and everything else looks old, I'm in. I'm all in. And I love it. Dude, I love that topic too. Because remember when we started this, I was totally just. I just love the cards. I love the players. I love. I never cared about the history of the cardboard. Like, I didn't care about the hobby itself. I said that many times. Like, I don't care where this card came from or how it came. And I never cared about any of that. I just. I love the card. I just wanted to have the card. So now I'm totally changing my tune and. And it's a good segue and I'll announce it now. I am doing solo podcast on my own podcast, doing my own thing. I have already filmed my first episode. The sound quality sucks, but I don't care. I. I'm trying to figure. I had the AC Running. I didn't realize I had the headset like you, but I still kind of hear. But I'm like, dude, what am I gonna do? So I actually talk about this and the history of me not caring about that stuff, but now realizing since being on, you know, being on YouTube and having friends in the cards, I've learned to really love about learning about the cards themselves and how they came. So that actually ties into the next card for me. I know I'm sharing another one of my cards, but it'll be real quick. Which one, Bob? Oh, Josh Gibson. Josh Gibson. All right. My. Oh, look at that recent pickup. This is a 2005 Topps retired signature series set that Topps put out. And I had a saved search for this Josh Gibson in a gold. And the golds are numbered to 500. And this is card number one in the set. So even extra important. Well, I, I, this thing popped up on my saved. I had a black saved search for a long time now, and I never thought I would actually see one. And these are numbered out of 54. And they popped up at 175 or $200. And I boom, I hit the, I hit the buy it now because you just never, I had never seen one for sale. I didn't know how much they went for or anything, but I knew the gold that I've been trying to go for were going for 200 and I kept missing them. So when this popped up, I was just like, bam. And I have dove into the history of the cards and how Josh Gibson when he was in Tops cards and when his first Tops cards was. I'm really diving into that. I don't want to go deep into it because I don't know a lot yet. And I want to talk to my buddy Shane Shoebox Legends, because he really knows about that. And so I have, you know, I go, I'm gonna call you one day, we're gonna talk about it. And what I love about Josh Gibson and I've have other cards of his is that all of his cards are equal. You could have a vintage Josh Gibson like that Talateros one. And this one that I have is just as important in my opinion. It's a non playing days. They're all non playing days now. I know the vintage guys are rolling their eyes going, and there's no way this is as important as the Talateros set. And I think that's what it's called. Well, I could make an argument very easily that his modern cards are just as important and his rare ones like the one Shane has, the super fracture of the tops one is even more important and more valuable and more cool. So I am kind of going on the Josh Gibson train a little bit. I have a couple more purchases that I'm not going to share yet, but I'm pretty excited about this pickup right here in particular. So. Bob Gibson 1959 rookie card PSA8OC. To me it's actually, which is crazy. I always thought like man, one day I should send this back in because it shouldn't have the 8oC designation. I actually measured it top to bottom. It's definitely off centered top to bottom. But these are the cards I hunted. I have, I still have plenty of eight ocs top to bottom. And there was another card I was going to share with you, but it was a Whitey ford top to bottom 55 Bowman that I actually posted on I Appeal Inc. As I'm playing around on that website for the stickers and it received an A grade, meaning that's basically as high as you can get A through like F or whatever it is. There's a God tier A, but it received an A. So it isn't just perfectly centered cards. If a card does look really good and like I said, at the right price. So my mind's kind of flipping back to, hey, I'm open to some off centered cards if the price is right. Now this, I've had this card in my collection forever. This thing is, I always envisioned myself when I was buying these stack, taking them out of the cases, putting them, stacking them all up, put them in a pack, opening the pack and going through and being this is what it felt like to get cards out of a pack back then. This card is a gym min 10 except for the centering. So I always had that in my brain back in the day. Like one day I might crack them out and put them in a pack and just pretend like I'm opening these packs and going, oh my gosh. So yeah, another top to bottom centering really does not matter that much to me compared to side to side. So this is a, of course beautiful, a beautiful card. Man, look at that. That is awesome. And it's even more prettier in, in the flesh. The colors pop better. It's like, all right, in the last two, two minutes here I'm gonna show another card. I've had this one for a while. Let me just see. Oh, there we go. Share that. Share the screen. All right, so this is going to be the 19. Another 1954 Mickey Mantle. This is my Red Heart. Another. How come I'm still seeing Bob Gibson? Is that just my. Okay, never mind. That was a tease. Let me share that again. Maybe I might. Oh, let me take that. There we go. Okay. All right. So kind of similar to yours, you know, top to bottom, centering is a little off, but, man, it's the PSA. PSA 4 to me. Looks just as good as some of the sevens and eights that I've seen out there. A lot of these have like a print line or a scratch or whatever it is in the blue up here by his hat. Like a white. White line or scratch. This one doesn't has great coloring to it. Right to left. Centering is very good. So this was one I picked up a while ago, and it was that, you know, same play as we talked about. You know, instead of getting the PSA five or six or seven or eight in this card, I was hunting for four, like this three or four that look good. And I got this one and was very happy with the price. And I brought this one because, again, 1954 Mickey Mantle. I have the Bowman, I have the Red Heart. I now have the Dandy potato chips. What do you say I go for the 54 Stallmeyer? What do you think about that? Oh, man. The yellow one. The yellow one. Mantle. Yeah. So I know the 53 is more coveted or it's harder to get or whatever. They're all hard to get. The 53 is a white border. Yeah, I love the yellow for something. Something about that yellow. There's a. There's a 54 yellow, and there's also a 55 yellow. I'd be fine with either one, obviously, especially if the 55 is somehow less expensive. But I haven't seen too many of those for sale lately. So I got my auction wire set up, and if anyone, if any one of those pops up at auction, I might be a player in that. But they're obviously very pricey. But I would love to have. I guess that would be my 54 run of mantles, the Bowman Dandy, the Red Heart, and the Stall. The. The grand. The grand finale. The. The Stallmeyer dude, you're getting your Mantle love back. Yes. Yeah. And I'd have to sell some cards to pick that baby up for what it would probably, you know, go for in Any grade, so. But I'll be ready. I'll be ready when one comes up. So anyone out there that has a lead on a Stallmeyer, I would take a 54 or 55. Let me know. Let me know, and I'll pay you a finder's fee if it's one that I can afford. If it's not, you know, way out of my range, so. Holy smokes, Adam. Okay, well, let me comment on your card real fast. This is the perfect baseball card. This right here, the eye appeal on it. This is what I would. If I click my fingers, I would want all of my cards to look like your 54 red heart, Mickey Mantle. That's exactly what I envision. I appeal move the movement now, the I appeal movement. Now, this is what it looks like. This is what I would represent as I appeal movement, that card. So spending the money to get that in that eye appeal is tough to swing these days. But on the. This, the lesser big cards, it's still very doable. And I'll. I'll stick to that scale when I buy, you know, the Alkalines and even Hank Aarons, anything that is in a rookie, you know, his big giant cards, even Mantles that aren't his 56 and his 54 red heart, I will. That was the perfect example. So, yeah, I'm very happy with that one. And, yeah, so we looked at some awesome cards, Dylan, and it led us down some different roads. Let's do that again sometime. I like that format where we just look at some cards. I already. I'm already thinking of some of the cards I want to show next time. So a little shorter episode today, but this was a good one.
