Has The State Of Grading Ever Been Worse?

I, I, I sold Matt. That was another part of the trade that we did over the weekend was I get. I sold Matt some GaryVee national exclusive sticker packs for V Friends. Oh, there was more stuff in here, by the way. They might, they might show cards. We were showing cards on the hit list. I didn't show them all. Oh, okay. Well, you one-of-one you want to show. I know this is like 58 Matthews. These things are like fresh. Yu-Gi-Oh 50 every. I love this car. Look at that green on that spawn top. Spawn. Yu-Gi-Oh Look at 57 spawn. Beautiful. Yep. Beautiful couple of draft. We were just talking about Dry's tale too. What a son of a gun. He was a couple of those couple rookies. Couple. Look at that 57 KX. That big smile. That's a great. What a great. What a great. I love that card. And then we got a pistol P. Yu-Gi-Oh 74. That's 74. Yu-Gi-Oh In 1970. The Juice rookie card. The Juice. The Juice is loose. And I, I forgot to mention. I forgot to mention on the video that, like on our regular video that there was a card that I Beckett out from that and I'm really psyched about it was 59 Frank Robinson. Yu-Gi-Oh Gorgeous. I've never, I've never. Yu-Gi-Oh I've never liked the version that I've had for my set. And I was like, oh, this is absolutely incredible. I love that card, by the way. The 59 Frank Robinson. Oh, it's one of the best cards. The black with the whiteboard. It looks really, really good. Looks really, really good. Great card. How loud? Well, that, like, crackling that I'm making. Is it loud? Not. Not really. I can't really. Okay. Oh, I'm making a lot of noise. These one touch is just slamming against each other over here. So this brings us to the. The question to talk about, which is like, is the state of. Has the state of grading ever been worse than it is right now? I mean, I would assume, because I have these. I mean, I have. This is a great example. I know some people are audio only, but, like, I have these. This. This Clemente Topps. It's shop as Attack. I don't. I. I do I send it out for grading. Do I wait three and a half to four months with sgc? Do I do that? I don't know what the answer is right now, you know, and, like, it's tough. It's really, really tough. Like, these turnaround times are bad. And to do PSA, it's 80 bucks. And what's the turnaround time on $80? A couple of months? Three months? I don't even know. Yes. So I. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. These are beautiful, beautiful cards. And they're tough to price. Right? Not great. And these things are sharp as attack. It's a bad situation right now with the rating. You know, I mean, first of all, problems, but. First of all, problems. But it's a real problem. It does matter to all of us. Like, I especially. And I. I just. I don't know how the modern guys just aren't getting crushed. Like, because it's. Because to me, it's like, Yu-Gi-Oh you can figure out a price point for those and sell them. You might get people that. That question, and they're like, does this measure? Is this, like, you know, the right. You know, or I'm not sure. Do the light test Saturday. You were there on Saturday, the show. The guy bought the. Bought a. Was it. It's a K line. 54 K line from me. And the guy's like, but, you know, if it measures. I said, no idea. I can't guarantee anything. I don't know. I got knowledgeable enough to know. I know how they cut them, but I don't know. I don't know. So raw stuff. You're Gambling. It's real. I know that. I can tell you that. I guarantee it's real. If it's not real, bring it back. But otherwise I, I can't tell you. They just, they manipulate these cards so bad now. You know, I, I just. You can't, you can't. But that's why grading works. That's why grading helps. But it's tough right now. It's real, real tough. I agree. And there, Yu-Gi-Oh there's like not a lot of good options. I guess that my, my viewpoint is that I'm fine with sending as just as somebody that doesn't, that's not a dealer that doesn't buy cards with the intent of, of selling them at any point. I'm fine sending my PC stuff to SGC and waiting like that's, I'm okay with that. I know I've kind of gone in and out on this. Like I was really upset about the whole, about SGC and what had happened to them and I threatened and said I'm never sending them cards again, whatever. And I changed my mind because I'm a, I'm just a human being and you know, and so I'm totally okay with sending piece stuff to them and waiting it out. Sure. But the idea of like, as I do know that there's even people that don't necessarily consider themselves dealers just as a way to make extra income for cards. It was a very common thing of, very common thing of like, Yu-Gi-Oh I'm gonna try to buy some stuff that I think is going to grade nicely and I'll, I'll send it in, get the cards back in two, three weeks and make some money off of it and then I can. But so that as a, as just a collector who maybe tries to sell stuff to, to make a little bit extra money, that has just gone away. Certainly gone away from me. So, so it's tough. So, Yu-Gi-Oh so then you gotta just sell the stuff. Raw. Matt just showed a Frank Thomas rookie card, Topps, and put his finger over the name. Oh, you had me going there. Yu-Gi-Oh I'd be going there. That was great. That was great. So when I decided that when you go on your Miller rants, I'm gonna just show cards that way, like if people like me get disinterested in your long rant, they can just look at the cards. You just, as I say too many words in a row and you so many words get confused. Yu-Gi-Oh Sorry. No sgc, bad. Psa, bad. Everybody bad. Grading bad. So Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. And I do think that there is this lane for somebody else to come in and. We talked about this on the regular is not. You got a billion dollar corporation and then when you grow, they just buy you. What are you talking about? There is no lane. Nobody's gonna come in. Nobody's gonna do. No, no, not happening. Only thing that happens is if the Fanatics starts grading. That's the only way that someone's gonna be able to compete. That's it. Nobody's gonna. That's. That is just such a. That's such. Such a deep conflict of interest, though. Like. Like, you know, for vin. You mean a conflict of interest against the PSA charges more when they grade your card higher. Everything they do, everything in this. In this industry is a conflict of interest. But the ultimate conflict of interest is the alleged. Are you talking about the. Yu-Gi-Oh Okay. But a third party gets to charge you more if they decide your card looks better. Start there. What are you talking. Who cares about that? If they grade your card higher, they get to charge you more money. They're incentivized to charge you more money. I agree, but that's why it doesn't even matter who made the card. If they can upcharge you no matter what, who the hell cares? Who the hell cares who made the car top Bowman Fanatics? Who cares if they can upcharge at a whim that they get to decide and you've already contracted into it, what do you do? Who cares? Who cares? It's already a racket. It's already a racket. It's a good. I mean, look, you make a. You make a good point. But. But I just. I think you're right. There's. Yes, there is this. There is this. Let's just call it like a mirage of impartiality. With. With psa. Sure. With. With sgc. That they're a. They're a separate company. That mirage of impartiality completely goes away if Fanatics decides to start grading cards. There's no impartiality again. We're just talking about new cards. You know, I wouldn't like. Not that I think Fanatics would care about this at all, but if Fanatics was like, hey, we're gonna. We're gonna launch a grading company that is just. You, You. You. You could grade vintage cards with them. Fine. There's no. I mean, those cards are. Are 40 plus years old. There's no. There's no impartiality or partiality there. Like, that's fine, but that's not. That's not why Fanatics would get into grading. That doesn't. That has no, that has no bearing on it whatsoever. Because what great at Fanatics is going to launch their. Their grading brand to compete with sgc? Like come on. That's. No, of course. But Yu-Gi-Oh but that, but that goes away if they just. But Yu-Gi-Oh you're right that they're the one company that could realistically they have the funds, the money to challenge it and they have the quote unquote credibility in the hobby to come in and be like, Yu-Gi-Oh we're gonna start, we're gonna start creating cards. But who. Buddy, that is just in 12 months. In 12 months, how much is it gonna. What's the cheapest cost to grade one card with psa? I think they will. I think they're going to reopen the tiers but I do think like the lower tiers. But I think it'll be. It'll still be 20. It might be. Might be 30 bucks. And I don't. What do you think it's going to be? I think it's going to be 40 bucks. Yu-Gi-Oh I think 40 bucks. I think that's the last. Yu-Gi-Oh it has to be $40. Has to be 40. And it's. But it's 20. 25. 20, 25 still sniffs 30. It's not enough. You need 40. You need, you need more of a separation man. But is that, does that include. That's the bulk price like they reopened. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I need the best to be $40. I'm really room for that $40. That's what I'm hoping for because I think the biggest thing is you need a bigger gap. Well RAW sell to against PSA nines or you need raws to start going even higher. Like whatever the it might be like you just, you gotta separate it because you need people not to be incentivized to send in these lower end cards. Exactly. Yu-Gi-Oh So you, you just, you gotta. And you got. Then it's gonna be a balance where it's not too much to send in a hundred dollar card that you want. You know, I want, you know, I don't know. Fred Clark T206 I can't spend $80 to get it graded, but I guess I can spend 40, you know. But the gamblers with this stuff, with this shiny stuff, the low end stuff where it tends, you know, a thousand and the nines junk like you need to stop. We need to get that gambling out. We need to price it higher. Whatever you got to do. I don't know. Right. And also it disincentivizes peop. Like the, the, the non. The non Sport, the Pokemon a bit too. But there's, but that's still like, you know, I feel like those cards are even cheaper to buy raw and the return on investment if that gets a 10 is, is much higher. Yu-Gi-Oh So I don't, I don't even know if $40, that's the problem. I don't know if 40 is going to keep the Pokemon folks from stopping submitting stuff that may, that, you know, that that may not be enough. It'll help, I guess. I don't know. Those tens are a lot more than 40 bucks, that's for sure. And the cards are cheap, so. Yu-Gi-Oh that's. I, I think that that's, Yu-Gi-Oh that's, that's something that's a consider too. So if it's lower than $40, we're just gonna have this problem again. Yu-Gi-Oh they're just. And do you, do you think that's across the board? Like you're only talking about psa? Like, do you think the other, like do you think SGC will raise their prices too? Or do you think that they're. No, you just, you're gonna have PSA do it. You're gonna have PSA do it and then see what happens. If Becca and SGC really pick up, then they got a race. But you know, PSA's got to raise the price. Yu-Gi-Oh Tough times out there for the, for grading. If you, Yu-Gi-Oh If you are a dealer, I think, I think the Blue Ice just, just sell it raw and see what you can get. Because I, I think that you know, the fewer, like I think there's more of a market than there was even because of the, the shutdowns and, and things like that. I think that buying raw is, it's fine and I think a lot of it, like I'm fine buying stuff raw, you know, Like I've bought more raw stuff in the last six, eight months than I have in, in the past. And I'm fine most of it. I'm fine. To keep raw. You get, buy a night, get the nice one touches like the ones you were showing before. And you're just here, you're just a minority with that. I know, I know. It's just. Well, look, I'm not buying, I'm not buying like 200 plus dollar cards raw and just keeping them raw. Like I'm just talking. Most vintage cards are, you know that people are searching for 200. Yu-Gi-Oh right. But I'm, but If I buy, I buy a, you know, 20, 30, 40, even 50 card. I'm fine keeping it raw, whatever. It's fine. Well, Yu-Gi-Oh I understand that. It's a real, real problem, Jake. I agree. And who's here to fix. No one's here to fix it. No one is going to fix it. And I think, like you're saying the last lever for PSA to Blue Ice to jack up the lowest price for submission, and I suspect you'll see that because let's say the backlog gets down to the level where they feel comfortable opening those lower tiers back up again. Well, what's going to happen? People have been sitting on their car, they've been sitting on cards for months. It's gonna. You're gonna have to come back slow, so you're gonna have to have. It's $80 now. You have to come back at 50 or 60 and then 50 and then 40. Like, you just see how it goes. Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. All right, well, I think we're. We almost made it to 15 minutes.
