Pop Cards At The National! What's Hot? Pop Card Pod

Hey, everybody. Papa Slabs here at the national, we are here with pop card pod for an on the scenes look at the non sports card scene. Let's go take a look and have some fun at the National. Let's go. All right, we're starting off right here at Heritage auctions. It's a special Star wars signature auction. Yes, they're cheering for Star Wars. I guess they're totally into it. But anyways, they are auctioning off some amazing Star wars memorabilia from the movie scenes. Yes, Aaron, I am your father. And let's just take a look around real quick. At Heritage auctions, we got the alliance. We got R2D2, we got other droids. We got Yoda, we got stormtroopers. These are all costumes from the actual movie sets. Those are going to be auctioned off on Heritage, but it makes a museum quality display here at the National. Some of the things I really want to show you that are really cool. We got Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. This one was from the 1983 Return of the Jedi. Totally Zebra cool. We got Daisy Ridley, General Leia Organa, Star Wars, Episode 1, Rise of Skywalker lightsaber. There's so many lightsabers in the exhibit. I just went around and checked it out. It took me 15 to 20 minutes to read them all, but I thought they were Zebra cool. Samuel L. Jackson's lightsaber. The blades on them, someone were practice blades. Some of them were real blades. So Zebra cool. Excellent exhibit. I want to show you a couple movie posters. And if you're just listening to the pod, let your imagination run wild because this is one of the best Star wars exhibits I've ever seen. Movie poster to the Force Awakens signed by the cast. We got live action notes and sets from the Ewok attack scene. We got episode two, attack of the Clones over here. Back to my childhood. We're talking kenner Star wars action figures still in the bubble pack. Zebra cool. The only thing I see missing in the exhibit are cards. Luke Skywalker number one. Princess Leia number five. Where are they? Doesn't matter. Really cool exhibit. Thumbs up to Heritage auctions. All right, we are walking the Fleer and we're here with the king from A to Z cards and comics. What's your name, sir? Mike. Ray. Mike. Mike, Ray. Nice to meet you. Thank you. Hey, Mike, we've bought some stuff from you in the past. I always appreciate the fun stuff you have. I bought a Hulk Hogan a little while ago from you. I bought some Simpsons last year from you guys. How long have you guys been in the non sports card market? Ever since 1986. So you've been in it for a long time? Actually way longer. Probably since 75 with the jaws cards when I was. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Jaws. I was Wacky packs. That was my thing. You're a little older than me. You got it, man. Still roll. Let me guess. He probably graduated in 86. Close. 83. 83. Well, I'm not that much older than any mics. Good. Anyways, have you seen more interest in a non sports car market in the past? Big time. Especially the pre World War II stuff. All of it. But pre World War II, Superman. All the iconic stuff. Disney, Superman, Simpsons is coming. It's coming. Turtles are. Turtles and Simpsons I think are going to be the next two big ones. That's awesome. What's your favorite non sports collectible besides Jaws? We knew you were in Jaws early on. All the Marvel 75 and 6 stickers. All right. Because I collected them as a kid and they're all iconic. What's your favorite? What's your favorite card in your PC? That's not a sports card. An autograph 67 Roberto. Oh, that's not a sports car. Yep. We'll take Roberto Clemente's. Cool. No doubt. I have an autograph Topps Clemente and a 75 Spider man sticker. That's. That's my favorite graded. No, no. Wrong. You just love it. I know how to grade cards. You just love it though. I love it. Love all the non sports. Spider Man's my favorite. That's awesome. Anything else on non sports we should know and share? It's a ever expanding hobby. They're making way more stuff now. They made a spongebob set. They're starting to make a lot of high end chrome cards. Insert cards for the next generation Disney, if you can think of it. They are making it or it's coming soon. A lot of these look familiar. 77 Star wars, one of my favorite. Well, actually my all time favorite set with the blue border. They did them in red. So you can see the red here in the case. They did the red border. They followed up with the yellow border and the green border. I'm all over the blue border. But I think only time, you know, they're gonna start the reds and the yellows and the greens are gonna start popping too. And I love the OG Characters, Right. Princess Leia. It's a nice one. Anything. Luke Skywalker. I sold out a Luke Skywalker here at the national within the first. Well, today's. What's today? Saturday. So I had three Luke Skywalker number ones all sold out by Saturday. Cool stuff. So this is the first. First place I've stopped that actually has the 1952 look and see set. I believe it was. I'm just looking tcg. I thought it was a top tar. I am looking for a specific card in here. I'm looking for Eleanor Roosevelt. I can't remember what number she was. There are only three women in the set. I was gonna say there's one, but it's not. That's Nathan Hale. It's a cool set, though. It has inventors. I mean, people way back. Sir Walter Raleigh, Samuel Morse, Morris Code, John Philip Sousa, famous composer. We're looking for Eleanor. I've been through the whole show. Nobody had the 52 look and see set because she was one of only three women. She may have been found by somebody else. Andrew Jackson and Suse again. So I guess we're kind of out on Eleanor, but we'll keep looking. Here we are in the main hall. This area here is all full of vintage. I'm with Jay Casper from Jay's Emporium in Texas. Nice meeting you. So I noticed you have a tremendous amount of great vintage sports cars, but you got a lot of non sports cars as well. Yes, we specialize in sports and non sports. And the non sports are especially popular at the national convention because so many people are looking for the regular sports, but also a number looking for non sports to fill their vintage sports. That's mostly awesome. How many nationals have you been to, sir? I've been to 37 nationals. 37 nationals. Have you seen a change in how people are looking at non sports? I mean, is there more interest in them now than there used to be? There's more interest. I've been in this for so long. In the 1980s, non sport cards were looked down on. Nobody really cared much about them. But the interest, I think really Beckett up maybe in the late 90s or so when they got to be vintage. The cars were from the 70s, were harder to find now. So the more rare they get, the more popular they get. Yu-Gi-Oh the more. The harder to find, the more popular it seems. Do you collect any non sports cards yourself? I have a few in my collection of the ones I like. I've got the TV Westerns, Batman and some of those from the 60s that I collected as a kid. That's awesome. What do you think? What do you think's the next sticker? What's up and coming that everybody's going to get excited about? Even in some of the vintage. I don't know for sure, but there's been a lot of interest, this show in war cards. War cards. Even the desert storms, which are not that old, but going back to horrors of war, World War II and older war cards. A lot of people looking for them. That's pretty good. They have some really prime. I'm talking. He looks. He's got a good Yu-Gi-Oh He always looks for the icon stuff. Some of the stuff I really like, of course, are the vintage Disney. I like some of this Beatles stuff in color. Mick Jagger, I believe up there. More beetles. There's really cool stuff. Lot of stars see who else we got in here? Superman. This awesome. Michael Jordan hologram card. This one's from 1991. Upper Deck, award winners. And of course, Luke Skywalker, number one, One of my favorite cars of all time. He's got that in here. We got Batman. Oscar pointed out. Scooby Doo's cool. And it is. That's some really cool stuff. Great at cgc. And a lot of nicely graded stuff from psa. So everything's graded, which makes it really cool. And even more rare. So some rare soccer up there. Historical figures. I think I asked you guys, you don't have any Eleanor Roosevelt. But somebody said Eleanor Roosevelt's granddaughter was their history teacher, which was Zebra cool. Is that your teacher? No, somebody else in your booth. But that was pretty cool. I don't know who that. Probably Stacy. No, it was a gentleman. Right? Oh, sorry. There you go. My mistake. Sorry. But very cool. But you don't have the 1952 look and see set, do you not? In fact, this, I think is the 1952 look see set that we're going to try to find Eleanor out of. But he's got Dick Tracy, Pinocchio, Flintstones, Popeye, more Disney rare. Look at that. Look at that. Mickey rare. Pop one 2850. So a lot of good stuff in here. Really cool. I'm going to take a look around here. And for you, Oscar, we got Grover from Sesame Street. I'm hoping we find her. We looked through, I don't know what, six stacks. I'll look and see. We did find a couple of the women. No Eleanor yet. We did find Franklin D. Oh, Cleopatra. She might have been the other woman. I'm Alex. Where are you from, Alex? From the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Atlanta area? Yep. Fantastic. Well, I do a non sports podcast. I gravitated to your booth because I noticed, first of all, you had the tops. Look, see, look and see set. I didn't find Eleanor, but I'm gonna still keep hunting. But how did you get into non sports? You know, you see so much of the same baseball, football, basketball. Yu-Gi-Oh I've always gravitated towards what I felt like was undervalued, even on the sports side. Side, I. I went more after Ty Cobs. All right, so it's been a value play for you. What do you think right now? And I see a lot of stuff popping in non sports Y. Where's kind of the value right now? Is there value or is it just off the charts? Well, I, I feel like there's value in all of it still, because it. I feel like it just started. People are just now putting their eyeballs on the non sports stuff. Like Superman stuff is going crazy, especially Superman brand number one. I sold a lot of Abraham Lincoln stuff, a lot of presidential stuff from the 1860s. These are like Abraham Lincoln rookie cards you got. So I just wonder what the Lincoln rookie looks like. Yu-Gi-Oh right over here. It's from the 1860s. Those are. Yu-Gi-Oh but these are from the 1860s. 1860s. These are original cards. When he was still alive. That's cool. So to me, an Abraham Lincoln for five or six thousand dollars. These are a little more. That still seems like a huge value to me. Yu-Gi-Oh no, that's Zebra cool. What'd you collect as a kid? I mean, the typical stuff. Baseball, football cards, and things like that. Me and my brothers, we were always big into baseball, but I've, I love collecting a lot of oddball things, things that not everyone else in the room has. Well, it looks like you got it. I do. I kind of pride myself. The older the better. The weirder the better, you know. Is there any one thing that surprised you, what people are gravitating to at this card show? No, everything is, you know, it's. I've sold a lot of Peanuts cards, a lot of Superman cards, a lot of Batman cards. Your typical, I mean, a lot of anything Disney, you know, all the Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Dumbo, I. All of it, you know, it's all good. Do you have any Peanuts Dolly Madison cards? I do. You do? Can I take a look at them? Sure. I, I, I used to have about 40 of those and I sold them. Maybe sold them too cheap. I, I did well with them. But I've got one Charlie Brown left. It's in an SGC5 up there. All right. You got any Snoopy? I don't, I've got not it. It's the only Dolly Madison card I've got is the one. All right, let's look at it. All right, let's check it out. Well, there you go, man. These are my hunt, that's for sure. Oh, really? Do you know Joe Davis? I do know Joe. Yu-Gi-Oh Got baseball cards. Yu-Gi-Oh Joe bought about 30 of those for me. I think I had like 10 Charlie Browns and 10 Snoopies and a bunch of other ones. That's a killer card. It's a little out of my range right now because he went up 30 minutes ago. It did. I had 1500 on it. And I mean, people are asking crazy, crazy numbers on those. Yu-Gi-Oh I would say you show me 1500. 15 on them. Yu-Gi-Oh I think I undersold my Snoopy then. What did you sell 1500 for? What was the grade five? Oh, so that's, that's right on. Can I take a look at. Did you buy these From Joe? No. Can I take a look at some? I sold some to Joe. Gotcha. Yu-Gi-Oh he's done a nice job kind of bringing eyeballs to. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Non sports. See what we got. Dude, I'm. I feel like I've sweat. I think this is one of the chase cards. There were some really hard secret cards. I can't even sleep at night. I mean my. I'm like, I. I'm like, I'm just like. That's funny. I wonder what 10 stands for. I haven't sat down five days. You might be questioning the grade, huh? No, we don't. We. I put my chair. I gave my chairs away. We just. Very cool, man. Thanks for your time. Thank you very much. Okay, we're going to wrap up the tour of the national non sports cards over at Black Jaded Wolf. Sharon from Black Jaded Wolf has been doing some awesome autographs of some non sports stuff for years now. Let's just take a look at a couple down here. We got Zebra strong stuff from Game of Thrones right in here. We've always been admirers of those James Bond. We have Weird Al Yankovic. We have all kinds of Zebra cool stuff. We had stuff from mostly in here. The stuff was from Game of Thrones. So she kind of, I think got the autograph side of non sports really heated up. Her stuff's great. I want to thank everybody for just taking a look. Non sports is taking off. We've heard some great tips. Some of the war cards have really come alive. I think some of the stuff that's undervalued are the big names. Licensed stuff, Disney, Batman, Superman, you name it. Any famous cartoon you remember as a kid is probably going to have legs of their own. Somebody called Simpson the king called Simpson the next thing to come. So anyways, thanks everybody.
