Welcome back to the Hobby Chop Podcast. This is the podcast for the people. I am Big Ken. He is zip, Zip. How you doing, my friend? Doing great. How you doing? What's up, man? I'll tell you what. What an afternoon today. It doesn't get any better than this. Watching this soccer game was incredible today. And I was comping cards all day, just going through and getting ready for the national, and I pulled out. You know, every time I go into my. You know how my downstairs is set up? I've got that storage off to the side. Every time I go in there for something, I come out with another box of cards, and I just start. Start pricing. I got. I got golf cards out. Priced all those out today. I. Tennis cards out. I priced all those out today. The net pro tennis, and I'm just. I'm going crazy pulling stuff out, getting ready for national. Yeah, that sounds awesome. I Actually, speaking of Argentina and Messi, I think it's a great time to give an update on my messy autograph that went to Golden. Do you remember this at all? I do. Yeah. So I had sent it out because I wanted it just auctioned on golden, and I guess golden only sells graded cards or if they're, like, sealed from the manufacturer. I didn't know that. So they sent it to psa even though I didn't want it graded. And my rep at golden was on vacation, so my messy autograph is at psa, not getting graded, waiting to get shipped back to golden to get shipped back to me. That is what is currently going on. Why won't. Why won't they grade it? I request. I didn't want them to grade it. I didn't. I didn't want the card graded. I think. I think it would like eight, so I just. I didn't want that. Oh, okay. All right. So I just, like, I was just gonna sell it raw, and it would be great to have it right now, to say the least. I thought it was gonna be a good story. No, no. Oh, my rep called and said it gemmed, and now it's worth a hundred thousand dollars. Yeah, no, unfortunately, no, it is. It is just in limbo, so that kind of sucks. Anyways, that game was phenomenal. That game. Excellent. You know, even. Even the. The games the other day, too, they were just. They were unbelievable. These games are so good. I mean, it's. It's got, like. I am. I am not a men's soccer fan. I don't watch men's soccer. But I. I have to believe these great games are really doing something for the sport. You know, it's pretty awesome you're not a men's soccer, men's basketball fan, and then when you see it, you're like, oh, my God, this is like the sport I'm a fan of. But even better, you know what? I, I like the idea of the con, you know, the countries playing against each other and things like, World Cup's excellent. So it's, it's. And it's interesting to hear, like, certain players playing. Oh, these, these two usually play together or they know each other or they play against each other in their league and thing like that. And, and it also, it almost makes me think, like, the Olympics, right? I'm a huge fan of the Olympics. And, you know, a lot even, you know, with hockey and things like that, when everybody, you know, the, the team, they're all playing here in the NHL and then they go back and they play for their own country. Yeah, I, I'm just, I'm a fan of that, that setup. The World cup is. I, I, I've said it before. I think it's the best sporting event, like, of anything. It's just, it's amazing. It really is. And Jeff Willis says Holland with the raccoon, he might be a good buy even at records. I mean, you have a guy like that where Norway hasn't been to the World cup in, like, over 20 years, and he wills them to the, the quarterfinals. Like, yeah, like, everyone knew Holland before, but it's just, you put them on that stage, and then in the US with the soccer card market, there'll be people who watched him play here that will want to collect him forever because, because of what they just watched. Yep. You know, so it's awesome, awesome stuff. Yeah, it's definitely, definitely great for the sport, but, but great for the hobby, too, right? For sure. Great for the hobby. And also what was awesome, too, is like, how about the top hobby stars actually performed, like, you know what I mean? Like, the hot. The, the top hobby guys were performing. So that's, that's always great. I know it's. And it's like, I feel like this is, like, the only sport that that, like, really happened, like, consistently. You know what I'm saying? For this tournament, like, I just want to go back and get this guy's. I got a funny Boston sports stat for you. Since Jalen Brown has been traded away from the Celtics, the Red Sox have not lost a game. So they, they were in dead. They were in dead last in the AL EAs and now they're in third place since Jalen Brown got traded, like nine and one in their last 10, 10 games. Pretty crazy. My guy, Military Breaker, messaged me the day before Argentina's last game. I forget what day that was, but he asked, he pulled this card, this Julian Alvarez. Yeah, Two of five. Okay. From Prism. It was, Yeah, I think it's from Prism. Yep, it's Prism. And he asked, he said, are you interested in the card? But I, I think it must have, must have been Saturday or Sunday, because I didn't. But then I'm watching the game and that dude come up with a huge goal. I messaged him, I'm like, your card just went up. Vintage card collector just asked, does anyone care about soccer cards that aren't the top six players? Yes, absolutely. There's a whole market that is obsessed with soccer cards and prospecting and everything. So, yes, there are tons of people who care about it. So not only at the national or close to the national, you have the SOCO Expo, which is out there. I'm not sure how many tables they have going, but also at the national this year, they have, they have the international 50 tables, the international section, which are 50 tables, basically, of people from other countries selling soccer cards at the National. So there's going to be a whole, all 50 tables in one area. It's the International area, and they're just going to be selling soccer cards over there. So very cool. That, that, that should help, you know, a little bit, too, with people coming for, for soccer at the national not being able to find it and going to SOCO now, at least they'll be able, not only they're going to be able to find it, but now you're, these guys are going to be bringing cards from other countries, right? So you got to get to see cars maybe you've never seen before, or it's hard to see. John Dortch. Hey, gentlemen, welcome in. Jeff Willis, welcome in. Vintage card collector. Thank you for being here. Peterborough Sports Cards, welcome in. He says he's just sitting here comfort eating. Oh, because of the, the game. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was definitely a good game. And I'll tell you what, I, I, we're not here to talk soccer tonight, but the, the three games I've watched Argentina now play is they, they, it's like they sit back to the end and all of a sudden they come alive and snatch, snatch victory right out of your hands. So, yeah, it helps to have the goat. Yeah. And, and, and, and last week when we were picking where you said no, no, we're just gonna pick one round at a time. I, I, I literally and I, you know, I don't know that much about it, but I had picked Argentina more just because I wanted to see. Yeah, yeah, of course. Same. Yep. You know, and, and, and Spain because La Minamal. Right. EA Sports picked Spain to win it all and they've picked every single winner since 2014 correctly. Really? Yep. God. Why wouldn't you have told me this? I could have go, what's it, Kashi K? I could have went and made the bet. But earlier when we were talking about the World Cup, I think I mention like, yeah, there's this like place that has picked it correctly and I couldn't find what it was. It was EA Sports. They picked it correctly since like 2014. Yeah. Nice. So, but yeah, I hope that'll be a great game on Sunday. Yeah, be fun. I find that a little, I like watching the game when it's an exciting, you know, like that the game today seemed to be boring up until like the 55 minute mark. Right. And, and then all of a sudden it was crazy after that when Argentina started to feel like, oh my God, this is slipping away and they came alive. Then all of a sudden I couldn't, I couldn't even comp another card. I couldn't take my eyes off. Yeah. You know, it was like rapid fire after that. Yeah. Yep. I was actually sorting some cards I bought from a collection. It was a collection I bought that came in a, a toolbox, a big toolbox. Were there any tools in there? There was a fake gold chain at the bottom that I brought to a pawn shop just to double check. Yeah. They did a little scratch test on it. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Of the acid. Yep. Yeah. I, I was like 95, sure it was fake, but I was like eh, might as well. That would have been quite a, quite a find. It was pretty heavy too. A heavy gold chain at the bottom of the toolbox. Yeah. So vintage card collector said thoughts on LE means World Cup Only one goal. Is he just four years away from dominating? I don't know. He's in the championship so I, in terms of cards, like goals are always great but success at such a young age to add to, to add to the resume long term is always good too. Like so, I mean he's, he's dominating club football right now. So. And is he one of those players too that his market is spiked so high that it's, it's, it's tough to keep, keep it going higher and higher that. I honestly, I really don't even dabble in that market. I don't really know his market. Like I'll buy Messi and that's kind of it. Yeah, honestly. So I really don't know. But I mean he's in the World cup final, so that means something. Yeah, yeah, 100%. All right, well, we didn't come here to talk soccer all day. We have this listener questions tonight and, and hopefully everyone here in the chat will be, will be active jumping in and, and helping us answer some of these questions as well. So Jordan, let's get it started with Joe M. This is a, this is a pretty good one to start off. If you had $10,000 to buy cards, split between PC and buying cards to make money slash investing, how would you spend it? Draw me to go first. I would love that. So my, my PC is going to look a little different. I'm, I'm going down a little bit of a different, different road in collecting. So some of it would go into, you know, 1950s vintage football. And the other part, I would just buy goats. I would, I would not spend a penny on prospecting, on a running back, on a quarterback, you know, any. Right. I'm going to buy Brady. I'm gonna buy, you know, Michael Jordan, you know, any, any hall of Fame player or go. That's what, you know, the ones. That's. Because that's what everybody's looking for now. I mean people are buying to flip cards 100 all the time. But I would probably put 3,000 into my PC and put 8,000 into goats and use the, use the, the profit out of the goats to keep, continue my PC. Yeah, I would do something fairly similar. I'd probably go like if I was just starting out with the knowledge and everything I have now, I'd probably go like 60 money towards investment. So six grand and then four grand towards PC. And for PC it'd probably be like between, I'd find car like a max of three cards between Tatum Mahomes and Messi that I'd split up that four grand with. And then with the six grand I'd probably be like going for a mix between like goats like you said, like you know, Jordan Brady, Kobe, then like more modern type goats like Otani Curry. I like buying judge for some reason I do pretty well with his stuff. And then the other, I would try to have like shorter term higher upside stuff like, like off season dip buys. Like you know, like going to this basketball season, buy the Wemby dip. I Mean, it'd be the PC too, but like Mahomes dip, Jaden Daniels, all the quarterbacks I would probably be looking, looking for right now too. So that's kind of how I would do it. But it would be with the goal that I could then continue to add to my PC from the investment. If, like, if I go into it in mind with both. For sure. Yeah. Yeah. And I think we were thinking the same way. Yeah, I mean, we've, like, I feel like if you do it enough, it just, it kind of is just written out there for you of what, what you're doing, you know. Yeah. Like, and, and I, and I could say it's been written out there and I, I've, I've taken every road possible. I've gotten, gotten off every exit. I've taken every, every overpass. I've, I've gone freeways, parkways, highways. I've been in every lane and it brings me, it always brings me back. And, and especially right now, sitting here getting ready for the national guy, you know, tables full of cards and comping and pricing everything out and it's so clear to see what cards have done so well and what have just, you know, just have done okay or maybe have stayed the same. Right. Which is not, not a bad thing. Right. But if, if you want to be in, in and buy stuff to. That's liquid that you want to continue to flip, especially in the, in the, you know, buying to make money side of the hobby, it's got to be, it's got to be liquid, you know, completely liquid cards. Yeah. I guess going into that liquidity is huge other than the PC. Like PC is obviously you're holding on to it for ever maybe, or. You know what I mean, Depends how you identify PC. But in terms of investment, liquidity over everything. And I, I, for me at least, like the, the names have been a really good safeguard is picking the right names kind of, I don't want to say insures liquidity, but it creates like a safer bit of liquidity, I think. Like, I've never had an issue selling Otani card, whether it was a dollar, like a couple thousand dollars. You know what I mean? So like, same with Michael Jordan. Like, it's just the names really kind of are important for that, in my opinion. Yeah, More, more of those collectors out there and collectors. Right. So I mean, people buy to flip, but there's a lot of collectors out there collecting those players. Well, even with that too, the markets are so aggressive now that people who maybe they're not even collectors. Maybe their flippers or investors are gonna have to pay 95 plus just to get the cards. Yeah, like collector or not like those names command that even if they're not collecting them. You know what I mean? Like I, I'll pay super strong on some of that stuff with like you know, a. It's KQ. Is 2012 select undervalued compared to Prism? You can start with this one. What was that? You can go, okay. Yeah, it definitely is. I personally I prefer select over Prism. It's way lower but print run and actually 2012 he's talking basketball. And I also think it would apply for 2013 select for football. I like the design of select more than Prism. I, I'll be the first one to say this. It's like I, I think Prism is really overrated. I, I don't. I, it like Prisms like the consensus king. Right. And I don't know why. I don't know if it's the longevity. I, I don't think the cards are that special. Like I Do you think they're that special? I feel like I'm missing something. When people talk about Prism and there's a lot of like, there's a lot of people with like very powerful voices in the hobby and big microphones that love Prism and collect all this Prism. And I, I, it's not that I'm hating on them or anything. I just don't think think it's that special. Like I think select is way better and it's like if you go way back to select, select is like select was hobby only until 2021 was when select became or I'm sorry, 2020 Anthony Edwards rookie year is when it became all the retail stuff. So like there's a lot less of it. I don't know, I don't know what you think. I just think it's way more scarce than Prism. Well, it's definitely more scarce because pr, you know, their run of retail and hobby. But I think it really comes all the way back to the hierarchy is, is what Panini wanted you to think of select versus I mean the way they, they put that product out, they always made, made it look like Prism was so much more superior to select, which. Well, that's not true. Prism used to be a like a, a really low end product at the, in the beginning. Oh well I, I am unaware of that as far as, as far as I go back on that probably 2018, 2019 is when I was, I started to delve dive back into ripping Wax again. And immediately they. They had you believing that Prism was a superior product to. To select. That's interesting because. I don't know, I'm curious where you get that from too. Just because, like, if Prism had retail, that would seem, like, not as superior. Because if you're selling it in Walmart and Target at, like, checkout compared to only Hobby, like, I just. That seems. I don't know. That would be like saying Panini Black. Right. Panini Black was just. Was hobby only too. Right. And that would be saying. And I. And I think Panini Black is garbage. It's better than Chronicles, you know, compared compared to Prism. I mean, Panini Black or Prism Blaster take Panini Black. But, like, that's what I'm saying. I don't know. I. I don't. For the. That's not the same price. No. For 40 bucks, yeah. I'm taking Panini Black. Yeah. All day. Are you kidding me? With the guaranteed auto and the patch cards? Yeah. I mean, damn. You're making my argument for me. Yeah, absolutely. For the same price. Sure. Or. Or a prism blaster for 400 bucks. I mean, still take a Panini Black. I don't know. I. I disagree with that. The. I think they've really. I was saying I would take it 20. Same price after 2020. I would agree with you when they watered down select like crazy. But for everything I've heard, is that Prism, like, they, they used to not even be able to sell it at the hobby shops. And to be on crazy discount, like the early, early Prism that so coveted now, like, they couldn't sell it. It was had like, discount stickers and. Yeah, yeah. Hobbies change, though. Yeah. You see a lot of those boxes people, like, are on, you know, finding these boxes. It shows. And ripping them and they've got like, you know, slashed marked down. Yeah, yeah. Oh, my God. I know. It's like. It's like, is that still the price? I know. Yeah. Some of them are crazy. Another question from a. It's kq. Is this bubble going to pop after national or during winter again? I. I don't think it's gonna pop at all. I don't really feel like we're in a bubble. No, I, I don't either. There was a time that I was thinking that over the last year, I started seeing signs of what I saw back in 2021 and 2022, but I think that the hobby is in a much different place than it was back then. And, yeah, I, I'm. I've ignored all those signs. I, I don't think we're in a bubble. I just think we're, we're, we're on the rise. Yeah. I also think there's enough like outlets that people are able, like the average person can get way more for their money than they used to be able to, that there's, there's so many outlets that the money can keep churning. And also I feel like we're more like, I still think there's seasonal stuff like towards the end of the year with holidays. It could slow down a little bit, but I don't think it'd be a crash, you know, I, I don't know. Don't you get the feeling though if, if, if a whole bunch of people decided, oh no, I wanted to get out of the hobby, there'd be a whole bunch of people the other beside me. I'm like, great, let me buy all those cards. Yeah, absolutely. 100. Let me buy them all. Why? Because there's an outlet. There's a place for those cars to go and somebody for those cars to buy. That's what's going to keep this from, from being a bubble or popping or. I, I wonder if more of the like the big business repacks, like, you know what I mean, like Arena Club, Courtyard, IO all of those things, not just them, but then you have ebay and you have people running singles. You have all these outlets that like, it's almost like the ecosystem, the sales ecosystem is like so much stronger now that it'll just continue on like, you know, I don't know. It does feel different though. Like it feels very different. But also some stuff's getting really high. But I don't know about an overall market crash. I don't know. No, I, I don't think we're, we're going to see that. No tact collector here. Hold on. I just want to address the chat. Steve, welcome. He finally made it. Jeff Willis said. This is going back to the first question. 5k on Shohei and Dodgers uniform tops gold and 5k on PC. Jackie Robinson. Bromista 36. What is up? Thanks for being here. Ozark 1776 nicks will blow the doors off of my homes week one. Homer sports cards welcome. He says the market can slow or even retreat without a full blown bubble pop. Yeah, yeah, I could see that. Yeah. Yeah. I think if anything I would agree with what Homer said more than anything. I think it could. I don't know how or when it would but if it, if that happened, that wouldn't Surprise me. And I also don't really think like transactions would slow down. I think you just see prices decline. Like I think the transactions would still be moving. You know what I mean? Yep. Tact collector going to west coast card show. How should I approach buying inventory? You've been to the West Coast. I've not. So you tell me what, what do you. How would you go into that show? Yeah, West Coast. I was there last year and it was like, I don't know, was it 800 tables or something like that? I felt that the room was way too big for, for the, for the attendance. And if it's like last year, I would say there's probably a lot of deals to be had because I think there were, there were a lot of dealers there and, and the attendees. The show was. Had good foot traffic. But I just remember thinking to myself I had time to leave my table and go shop at other people's tables and make some good deals because I don't think people were really selling that much. And I think it's this weekend, right? I think, I think so. I'm pretty sure if I remember it's. It's either this weekend or next weekend. If it's this weekend, it's going up against fanatics. Yeah. Which, which would be, I'm sure is going to be tough for them. I can't imagine that they. That's gonna be tough. They, they did that. I, I would going in there since it was. How should I approach buying inventory? I would basically go in with that mindset of what you're targeting and what the exit strategy is. So like not necessarily the west coast, but I guess more applicable to just buying inventory is like if I'm going into a place where I know it's going to be more competitive at a big card show like West Coast, I'd probably be like whatever. I'm looking for a price point and who's going to be buying it or where I'm going to be selling it. That's, that's what I'd be focusing on more than anything. And it is this weekend. Okay. So. So you know and I know it's East Coast. West coast. But I think a lot of people in the hobby that normally like I know at least a handful of people that I saw at west coast last year are in, are in New York for Fanatics Fest this weekend. So. Alrighty. Digital Ruin. Where did the names be Big Ken and Zip come from? You want me to go first? Yes. So I have a son, Ken Jr. And from when he was born, it was always Big, you know, Big Ken, Little Ken. So people knew who, who we were talking about. And then other people in the family, friends started calling me Big Ken versus Little Ken. And then my, my brother in law had, he had a junior as well. So he had Big Ken, Little Ken, Big Tony, Little Tony. We were a family of Bigs and Littles. Mine. That makes sense. Mine is that people couldn't pronounce my last name so I've been called Zeparini, Zipperoni, Zipparelli. They just try to make my name sound more Italian I think. So essentially it just came to zip because they could say that and it stuck through sports and then it eventually led to Zips cards which yeah. So worked out but that's, that's where mine came from. Tom G. Top things to consider in the singles market before Fanatics Fest and National. I'm gonna, I, I'm gonna let, I'm gonna let you talk first because you, you are crushing it right now in the singles market. So yeah, you and I have two completely different experiences in the singles market. So with what Ken just said, I'm not even thinking about Fanatics Fest or the national though. Like, you know what I mean? I'm moving my stuff online. So. But if I was to focus on that, I, I would really be trying to buy like I wouldn't want to chase any hype right now. Like so it's kind of going to be counterintuitive of what I've been saying. Like I don't know if I would want to be going in with a Tom Brady Bowman Chrome PSA 9 or 10. That card we talked about last week. Not that that's a bad card or anything. I just feel like. Okay, let me try to rephrase that because what I'm trying to say is I would. Instead of like really popular high pop liquid cards, I'd be looking, I'd still want liquidity, but I'd want rarity and scarcity. That's what I would be targeting way more over like you know that Bowman Chrome, that, that's basically what I could say. I'd also be like, I'd be trying to buy probably quarterbacks to sell. I feel like the quarterbacks are always moving at National. I just, I know that's like said and said again and I think a big thing going into nat. Like, I mean this is asking before Fanatics Fest International, but if I was at Fanatics Fest and National, I'd want to at least and shout out to Zwittle bug cards because we had a conversation about this the other day. I would really want to just spend at least like a day or two in, in the dollar boxes at National. I really would. I like that's what I think would be the best while, while I'm there. But yeah, I don't know if I necessarily answered that question very well, but that's, that's my answer to it. You tell me. So, so two parts to this question. One, the first part, I've walked the national the last couple years and I can tell you with a hundred percent certainty that when I went up to a booth and they were just full of boxes, five row boxes of cards, that I was excited because I knew I was finding a lot of value in those cards. Yeah, I mean in those boxes. Because no one has the time to go through. I mean I know what I'm going through now just trying to get boxes together to go. No one has time to go through all those. I mean I'm sure people do, but there was so much value. There was so many times I'm going through a two to five dollar box and I'm pulling out a fifteen or twenty card out of there and I was just super excited about that. Yeah, so. So spending five days, the last two, at the last two nationals as an attendee, I was spending a lot of time in those box. Like I wasn't. If I walked up and you had made one box or two box, I, I may go through it, but not a big deal. But if I showed up and there was, there was, you know, two eight foot tables just full of five row boxes, I was, whatever I was digging into, I was going into, I knew I was going to find value in there. Now on the other hand, getting ready this year for me building boxes to go out there, I bought a lot of cards, I bought a lot of numbered cards, auto cards, patch cards. Right. That I was populating, you know, boxes to, to bring out there. So now that it comes time, you know, I started buying these in December, January, all the way up to I think April, I was buying these. Now it comes time to start pricing these and putting them out there. I didn't do as well. I'm glad I did and I know we talk about this all the time, you make your money when you buy and I'm glad I bought super well on those cards. But those cards really haven't really moved in value since I've purchased them. Right. When I'm going back through these and some of these, some of these Even some of those higher end ones that I took some chances on have come down a little bit on those there. Right. So maybe not the profit I was looking for on that. You know again it's always, always, always learning, trying something new, always learning but without the option of grading because I would never get these cards back. You know, before the national it was just buy these cards to sell them as singles and yeah, I feel the same way you do moving forward, looking ahead to you know, the fall and things like that. If I'm buying singles I'm definitely looking for rarity, scarcity and maybe not even putting them in boxes but just putting them in one touches and dropping them in my case. Right. Not having any discount boxes or, or not even doesn't have to be discount but just any boxes. Yeah, it's just buying these up, maybe spending a little more like, like you've been doing too. Right. Maybe not buy 10, 25 cards and maybe buy one 250. 250 cards or one touch and throw it in the case and then you know, try to do a little bit better on that end of it. That yeah I'll tell you with that too. Something like so I've talked about before, I don't have as much time to be doing what I have been doing so but mainly I started buying the more expensive cards to still utilize PSA with regular grading. Like that's why I upped it. But it's just like if, if I'm making the right moves at the lower end and I'm confident enough to keep making those right moves, the only, the only variable that changes there is the dollar amount. So like if I'm still able to make the same margins and same decisions that I am on a higher dollar amount card to a card basis, I'm just going to make more money. Right. Like so I think that's kind of been the big things. I feel like I've honed in really good skills at the lower end to now apply it to bigger cards. I was just talking to a co worker today is like, and they were asking about cards and the whole journey and all that and I was like well right now I'm trying to target nothing cheaper than like 200 bucks a card. And it's like hopefully next year it's 500 and hopefully the year after that it's a thousand. And like hopefully that's the progression. Right. Because then moving forward that's the best way I could explain that because what you just said. Yeah like and also you get so much more of your time back. Like, like, like really, like, you know, I. I've had. I've bought out collections that fill my entire Jeep Wrangler four door. Like, like took like months just to sort it, let alone not even your time, but your space. Yeah, yeah. Like, like this whole downstairs area, look, it looks like a disaster right now with boxes of cards everywhere. And I thought. And I'm looking at my wife as she keeps coming down and looking at me, and she said, she says, are you gonna do this again next year? I'm like, next year it's gonna be 10, $10,000 cards. That's it. That's. That's all. That's all it goes. Take to the national next year. Because the money. Yeah, yeah, because the money's the same. And your, Your, like your mental load and mental equity of all this stuff is just right. It's so much less like you. Yeah, absolutely. I. I hear you. And that's like something that. Going into this little change of pace, I didn't. That wasn't really on the forefront. And it's. It's been the most like, positive surprise I've gotten is. It's like easier to just multiply and make more. It makes sense though. It's just easier to make more money when you're dealing with bigger cards. Like. Yeah. It's not rocket science, right? Yep. But Tom G. Great question. Another Tom G. Question which I think is a way easier to answer. What would be more impactful searchable whatnot sales for the last three years or no ebay sold data? I'll go first. I think searchable whatnot sales would be more impactful. It would be another bit of transparent, of transparency in the marketplace, like for people who, like. Because there is some truth to like, yeah, people impulse buying on these auctions. It's a data point. It's a real data point. Is it in a different environment that could skew the data point? Sure. But it's still data in that data. You know, just more data to like add into your. Your. Your point plots and all that stuff. But also if ebay disappeared, not like it'd be the end of the world. But we like for card ladder, right. We'd still have all the auction houses and then I'm sure they'd add in whatnot too. So with how many sales there are and whatnot, I wonder. I wonder if that would just replace ebay with how many transactions are going on and whatnot, you know, like. So I think whatnot sales data would be more Impactful than no Ebals e than no ebay sales data. I, I think though, I really, I. This is a great question because I really thought about this a lot today and I really think that if we, if we had whatnot sales to look at, I think a lot of people would be like, oh, you can't trust that. You know, it's, you know, it's pressure there. It's. It's pressured sales. It's people who was the seller. Yeah. People making bad decisions like, you know, or, or oh, he had nobody in the room. They're only, probably only a couple people in there. I would be surprised if he even sent that card. Right. Yeah. So many of these, these other excuses going over those. So I'm almost glad we don't have that because I, I think probably what we have is good. And on the, on the opposite hand, I think it would hurt, it would hurt the hobby without those sales. I think it would hurt, you know, repackers. I think it would hurt, you know, without having those ebay. So I think it would, it would slow people down from buying because knowing they've got somewhere to go to, to say to. To confirm whether they're making a good purchase or a good decision, a bad decision on the purpose on the purchase. You know, because we're so tied to those comps now. And I'm not saying, I'm saying I, I'm that same person and I've lost some nice cards being. Being stuck on a comp on, on a last couple comps that I really kicked myself for saying, you know what? You should just bought that card and not worried about what that sale was. But I think not having any of that knowledge or access to that, that data point. You're right. We would still have card ladders information, but I think people would be, you know, people would complain that they. To pay for card ladder. Right. I mean there would be, you know, there'd be something else there. And I think it would slow people down from making a lot of purchases that they do because I think when it just think of, think about this and I know you don't do shows, but you know, somebody comes to me and says, hey, I got this 200 card. You know, I'll sell it to you for, you know, 140. Right. So I could take that and, and, and go to the show. Right. And we know the last, the last sale on that card was 195, 197, 201. Right. The next person that comes up on buy that card what are they offering me? 170, 175 on that card. So two things could happen right there. I bought it for 140. I could say, yep, great, shake my hand. Right. I've made money. You bought the card at what you wanted and, and everybody's happy. Or I could say, I can't do that. I got to be firm. I got to be at 180. Chances are the person will probably walk away right from the sale. So it would change. It would change a lot of that. Why? Because we're looking at the last sale now. If that same person didn't have that 190, 195, 197. And I said, I want 200 for the card. What are they basing it off of? Are they still going to come in and offer me 175? Are they going to say, I don't know, it looks like a good deal, I'll buy it from you? So, so if it increased sales, especially if you don't have the sales data, it's not that ebay doesn't exist. So they, So I assume what people would start doing is going to look at what the cheapest available is and then trying to go off of that. Yeah, but I, I think the sales would slow down to a point where people would be, I, I, I don't want to say everybody, because I know there's a lot of people. Nobody's saying anything, but I know people are being like, I know what my prices are. I, I would know if that's a good price price or not, which is 100. True. But there's a lot of people that walk into the shows, you know, that, that have no idea. They see a card, they're like, oh, that's cool. I've never seen that before. And they've got their phone out and they're like, oh, well, the last one sold that and they're holding the thing up. Well, if they didn't have all that to go on, well, they would have the whatnot sales versus eBay. It'd just be like, it could be a higher variance. Yeah, I wasn't looking, I was looking at just not having either of those. Oh, well, it was that it was either searchable whatnot sales for three years or no, no ebay sold data. So I was like, yeah, I was, I mean, I was going for both. Well, yeah, if you had no sales data, yeah, that'd be tough. But then people would have to. Instinctively. Yeah, I mean, I, I think that would slow, especially if it got if that happened like now, like after all this, like we've been conditioned to go do this ritual to find our price and what things are worth. Like if you were to throw that in now, if you had done it before. Yeah, it's too late now, right? Yeah, it's too far gone. Would it go back to the Beckett. The Beckett magazine? Yeah. Right. Like, it'd be some. It's. It'd be some catalog like that. Yeah, that's. That's what would come about. I'd assume so. Or the card ladder people. And here's, here's another switch. You're like, oh, people would be complaining about paying card ladder. They're so savvy. They'd probably just come up with their own Beckett price guide. It'd probably be a card ladder price guide of all these cards. That's probably what would evolve, Right. Chris and Christine would be there all night typing it up. They'd be on it. Yeah, they'd be on it. Yep. Absolutely. And I send that out by email. It's like, here's 4, 000 pages of the 20, 25 release prices. It's like, geez, 31 gigabytes. Yeah. But yeah, that's another thing is like in the hobby is adapt. There will always be adaptation. There will always be, you know, there's always going to be that improvement. People trying to improve things. So that's good too. Cyrus T. Thoughts on Mahomes pricing? I think now that the announcement that he's going to be to start the season and he's probably going to be a full go for 11 on 11 in training camp. I think his, I think his market is going to come. Is going to come back up. I'm surprised to hear like, you know, I, I hear, listen to a lot of these fantasy shows and people are like, oh my homes is like going like the 12th quarter quarterback and the 13th. And I'm like, are we serious right now? Like, are we really saying that we're taking this guy? All of a sudden he has. Has this injury and he's made it all the way back. He's going to start the season and we've taken him from the top three or the top four quarterbacks and dropped them, you know, to the middle of the pack. I. I have a feeling. But that being said, I just think he's a buy. But like, if now, now's the time, like, how many times are you gonna get to buy a Mahomes dip, right? Like, so now's the time is like, I don't think there's really a dip. I've. I've tried to buy my homes and we've. I've talked about that. I talked about this on the last week where I tried to buy that card sold at 2300 and I tried to buy it like 2500, and now the card's selling at 5500. You know, I. I just don't think there's. Maybe there was a dip then, but I don't think people were really selling the cards. People had them. Maybe I'm just buying stuff that's like mispriced then. I don't know. But anyways, I'm finding stuff out there, so that's. I'm buying. You're buying stuff that's mispriced? Is that what you. Maybe, Maybe. Maybe that's it. Yeah. Many mahomes. What moms have you had? I have a planetarium. I have the red out of 10. I bought a couple. Stained glass. Yeah, I just. I don't share everything I buy. What's the point of that? There's no fun. It's no fun. It's supposed to be. You're supposed to have friends in the hobby. You're not supposed to be like a hobby hermit. It's not a hermit. I share stuff. I don't need to share everything. I don't need to share everything. I mean, what's, what's. What's the point of sharing everything? And then it leaves no further imagination, you know what I mean? Like, come on. It's like, oh, it's like, here's every single penny I've sold and bought. What do you think of me? I'm looking for external validation. No, thanks. Good. Anyways, I'm buying my homes and yeah, in fantasy, I'd be buying them too, because that's. He's all right. And to Ozark with Bo Nicks. Yeah. Bowed Nicks. That leg. That leg is bowed. Bowed Nicks. DJ sports cards, PSA bulk updates. I ran it through Chat GPT. Like to estimate on how they're doing on the. The backlog and Chat GPT said between November and January. Yeah. If you ask me, I would say probably after next year's National. Oh, Jesus. That's pessimistic. That's what I would say. That is pessimistic. And I don't even know if they're going to come back with the. If they'll come back with the bulk. And if they do bulk, you're probably going to have to go to GameStop or go somewhere to bring. Go. I don't think they're going to rely on you to send your own bulk anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if Bolt got switched to him. More expensive, like 30 bucks or 45. Yeah, that, yeah, I think, I think bulk could come back and they'd raise the price. And I was curious and I don't know if anybody. And if you do, if you're part of the collectors club with PSA where you pay that yearly subscription, you know, for the bulk and stuff now that they've shut down, have they off. Have they sent offered you anything, any refund, any discounts, any, anything at all? Double check. Remember that Aaron Rodgers discount? Double check. Hey, Rogers. Welcome Michael. Sports cars, the hobby. I can't, I can't wait for those weekly fantasy reports. We might have to, we may have to read them in here. They're pretty good. Have to bring him on for yeah, 10 minutes. Or he could send us a video that we'll play once a week. Oh my God, that'd be wild. Matt Ryan, why did Barry Bonds cards jump from 400 to 1500? Maybe there is more to that that I did not just read. Why were there Barry Bronze cards sitting on ebay last year for 400 that now sell for 1500 at auction? Are these new entrants to the hobby or are people just starting to do a deep dive into the catalog of players such as Bonds? Maybe people are okay with steroids. No, I don't know. I don't know. What the Bonds run up is, is interesting because seemingly nothing, at least I haven't heard anything of anything changing on like hall of fame status and stuff like that. Maybe it's Pete Rose getting the lift. Post. That was it. Posthumously. What is it? What is the word after he dies? What is that word? Post. Humorous or something. Post. Okay. Yeah, anyways, after he died he got in. So maybe that's what people are, are speculating on Bonds, that there's a chance he gets in. I, I was thinking too, it's the age, right? What was he? Yeah, 86 rookie. So you figure those people were probably that were big fans of his, maybe born the early 70s and they'd be low 50, 50s right now. People with ext. Posthumously. There you go. Thanks, Howard. Thank you, Howard. Yeah, I'm not really sure and I don't really know the bonds market well and I'm not necessarily a fan of Bonds. Michael. Sports car is a hobby. I'm sure, you know. Yeah, that's, that's right up his alley. You're right. Yeah. So now we have some Ziggy questions. If you get any of the Fanatics exclusive products in the drop this weekend, would you rip the boxes, hold the boxes, or flip them? $300 for Update Baseball, $300 for Soccer Chrome, and 600 for Travis Scott Baseball. I would probably flip because I think immediately coming out of there, those boxes, they would think they were Fanatics Fest exclusives. Right. So people are going to be like, oh, I really want those boxes and willing to pay any amount to get them. So I think, I think either at or just after be the best time to flip that to get the most out of it. That's where I would be. Yeah, I just try to get them out of my hands as soon as possible. Especially there. Because I remember last year people were paying crazy for the Travis Scott stuff there. I remember now that you say that it was like, I think one of the Travis Scott boxes. I forget what it might have been. I think it was baseball. Then maybe it was like doing like 1500, a thousand bucks. So my. Yeah, I'd probably just try to flip it. Steve Loft said, yes, we have our memberships extended at PSA for the duration of the shutdown, but that's it. Nothing else. Thanks, Steve. Thanks for sharing that. Get what you get and don't get upset. You get the magazine every month. Yeah, that's right. And sometimes you could get a serial numbered magazine. Oh, yeah. Another question. Are you looking at One Piece or Pokemon for grading plays? At $80 per card, Pokemon PSA 10s can pay huge. And the PSA 9s do better than RAW. Upside isn't as high. If. If I could figure out how to decipher what year the Pokemon card and what set it was from looking at the card, I would maybe consider it, but I can't. I. You ever look at a Pokemon and say, is this 2025 or 1999? I. I can't. I can't tell, Ken. I can tell what stops Chrome. I could tell what's finest. I could flip it around, see the year. I can't find it. Is that crazy for me to say? Yeah, yeah. And I know some people who have, who have jumped ship on the sports and gone to the Pokemon, and it's been months of them, you know, diligently working to figure out the Pokemon aspect, but they're happy they did it. They're happy they. They switch. They've switched over. But it. It really sounds like a business decision where the hobby. I'm here because I really enjoy It. I enjoy the sports cars. I enjoy the, the chase and, and everything I'm doing with it. I think it would become more work if I had to figure out the, you know, the, all the Pokemon stuff. Yeah. My favorite Pokemon is Sh. Otani. Moving along. Follow up still Ziggy. Are you pre ordering any Pokemon 30 celebration that's available at GameStop now? Looks like an easy fall flip. I'll say it in Spanish. No, Not doing it. We're gonna have to. We're gonna have to bring a Pokemon slash. Was it one. One piece and on to. To. To talk about it. That would, that would once the next EC3 con. Because maybe we could find someone there. Unless you know someone else. September is EC3. Yeah, we'll. We'll go. I think it's Labor Day week. Is it Labor Day weekend? It's the fifth, I think. Fifth, sixth. It might be Labor Day weekend. We'll. We'll go. We'll try to catch one Pokemon dealer to bring them on. Gotta catch them all. We'll try to catch one. All right. Oh, sports card. The hobby that would lose rating. Well, please don't thumbs down, Michael. Or else I'll have to thumbs down. You in the fantasy football league? All set. 2 4. 2 4. Are you going to Fanatics Fest? No, no, I'm not going sold out tomorrow. And I think somebody just messaged before we went on saying Friday was sold out too. So that's, that's incredible. They've already sold the tickets out. Yeah. JGNZ3KP. Multiple sports dealers at my local show have switched over to Pokey. They're dead to me. That sounds reasonable. Matthew Smith, 2095. This will be a Ken question. Are there any unofficial trade nights on Wednesday night at the National? So here's the thing. They're. They're, they're impromptu, right? I mean they're going to be in every hotel lobby because people are super excited. The show is estimated first day of the show ends at 8pm and the last two years when somebody's announced that they were doing like a trade night at a lobby or somewhere, things didn't go well. Like the police were there. There was too many people. The fire marshal moving people out. So there's really nothing announced about that. But if you're there, you could walk across to. Or take the sky bridge across to the hotel across from. Into their lobby. I'm sure the Lowe's, which is two, two, two hotels away from that. I think it's a Hilton that's right across the street and the Lowe's Hotel but any of those local hotels in the lobbies, they're going to be huge, huge trade nights going on in those lobbies. So if you're there on a Wednesday night and I mean I, I know, I know I'm I'm staying at the Lowe's so when I go back to the hotel, I'm probably just going to end up down in the lobby Wednesday night. Very cool. And Ken, for you I'll I'll share some pickups right now. Awesome. I'll show any mahomes here come like 35 Mahomes cards Planetarium face hit is coming out of his out of out of his shell. Shohei Otani batting sp Jordan starting lineup one on one. Those are that's like from one of the like Kenner like the action figures this was this was in the toolbox collection buyout. How about a Miles Garrett Optic Hollow rookie? Like how about that just laying there gold chain wrapped around it. I know. Jordan tops finest coding still on this card has gotten When I comped that I was like wow, that's where it's at. Jordan creators coding still on it. And these came into my DM at a really nice percentage. Unprompted Otani Gypsy Queen rookie Otani Allen and Ginter rookie Tawny heritage rookie and a Griffey quick strike. And then for the PC I'm trying to trying to get a PSA 10 green prism of every single year for Jason Tatum. So I have the 2019 that just came in and the 2021 green prism that just came in. So I'm looking for all those years green prism PSA 10 and yeah, so that's just a few handful of things that have come through the door moment. This weekend I am doing the Danbury card show on Sunday. So if you're out and about in Connecticut you can find me find me in Danbury. I'm not sure Saturday with the what the plan is for Saturday yet. I'm not sure. It's weird because next week it's not. I I think usually Saturday is the big hot big show day but this weekend there's like seven shows on Sunday which is weird. And then next weekend there's like five local shows on on Saturday. So just to build up to the national maybe the whole because we're so close to fanatics fest. I mean I doubt it but I'd say like I wouldn't want to try to go against it on a Saturday maybe Sunday if people had gone like that's I'M surprised West coast did theirs this weekend. I'm sure they've lost some of their big. Yeah, the vendors. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. And buyers probably that go there. Yeah. So yeah. But all in all, great, great mailbag from the listeners. Yep, 100. Yeah, that's it. But you're good for Thursday next week? Yeah. Be back back in the action. Good, good. I'll be back Sunday with a brand new episode and we'll be back next Thursday and then in the fall once football starts. Will not be going on Thursdays just yet again because we cannot compete with NFL. And we will like to watch the NFL so we can compete. Do a hobby chop halftime. That would be wild. Hobby chop halftime. Thursday Night Football. Didn't we do that right with Tyler? Didn't he have the football game? Didn't we start on Thursdays? Didn't he have the football game on the tv? He might have. I remember, I remember someone saying it was distracting. I think it was football. But yeah, we're gonna move to Wednesday nights. Speaking of Tyler, if you're listening, Tyler, pay up. Dudes are ready. Dudes are ready. Dynasty league. Him and him and Kenny. I had to chase him down in cardboard association. I gotta be go trying to. What about that other league we're in? You chasing those people down too? Listen, that's, that's, that's my, my cousin needs to figure that out. He works with like all of them. So it's like four Dynasty leagues I'm in and nobody wants to pay. I'm like. And then people call me up, you want to be? I'm like, no, I don't want to be. I'm done with dynasty leagues. Like, like I'm so, I'm so annoyed like going through the rosters. It. We can't even rookie draft. You can't make trades because people's rosters are locked because they're not paying. Well, it's fair though. They should be locked because they should be locked. But they're just hurting it for, you know, for hurting for everybody else. I mean it's not like we're in thousand dollar leagues. He's like fifty dollar leagues. Yeah. A hundred dollar league. I don't know. To be fair to those people, the most part is just don't open. They haven't opened sleeper since week 17 or 18 of the regular season last year. And I, I can't say I blame them. I know how much you love sleeper, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. And they. Dave asked. That's another thing too. I left it out because it was very fantasy football, but he was like, he was crying about league safe, which I actually like. League safe? Yeah. Is it. Is that the only one? Is there any other ones or. That's it? I don't know, it's just I. I've noticed there's a. I don't know, maybe there's a generational issue with using league safe. I don't know. If you remember last year, there were. There were a couple people who really did not like league safe. So we'll have to see. Were they young? Were they youngins? No. Yeah, they were older. They were big. They have to go back to PayPal or Venmo. They have to be what it is. All right, kid. I want to thank everyone for watching, everyone for listening. Please, like, if you haven't subscribed, please subscribe below. We'll be back next week with a brand new episode. Zip. Have a good night. See you.
