Hello and welcome to the Football Card Podcast. This is it. You made it. It is Friday and you are listening to the fastest growing podcast in the entire world that's centered on football cards and most importantly, football cards. I'm Your host, John aka Pac Nicholson, and with me, as always, is Mr. Stacking Slabs himself, Brett. How you doing? I'm feeling tired. Yu-Gi-Oh long week. I was, I was thinking about that just the, the day that all these people come back, all these mainly guys come back from the national and especially with kids, it's like you come home and it's like, okay, child is yours. Now back to responsibilities that your significant other has been handling for three, four days straight. That it is now your turn. And it's like, well, wait, no, I'm tired too. I just spent days running around looking at cardboard. What about my break? But it was just funny. I feel like I saw on Instagram, like just people getting back home and just thinking about that recovery day is just very funny to me. So how, Yu-Gi-Oh how are you doing? This is what I can tell you and I haven't really thought about it until like this morning where, when I am, like Sunday when I got up, I left early to get back so I could take over child responsibility. I left Lowe's Hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, and drove directly to my parents house because my wife had some relief. My parents watched my two oldest daughters so I just Beckett them up from their house and so I had, I was, I had a pretty good Cruise home on 65, stopped in Crown Point, got a coffee and felt really good and got my kids. It was great to see them, see my wife hang out with family. But like Monday morning when I woke up, I just felt like depleted. Tuesday, same feeling. And then today, Wednesday it just, it's still the same. And I realized that the fact that I not only like I went to Fanatics Fest and just did this and then stayed an extra day because my flight got canceled. Then the week in between Fanatics Fest and the national, it was like pedal to the metal because I was trying to catch up from the week prior. But then also prepare for the week of me being out from a content perspective. And then you have the national and so I just feel like I'm on like the most vicious cycle of sleep deprivation of all time. But that's what coffee is for. I had a great time. I'm glad to be back in the saddle, but I just, I'm hoping this, I can get recovered on the sleep. But I thought I got decent sleep. I, I did stay out later than I normally would if I were at home or on the weekend. But man, it was fun. That, that's the, the message was for me, it was fun. It was great to get so much positive sentiment around, stacking slabs around the football card podcast. I was a little overwhelmed, to be honest with you, in terms of like people stopping and saying something. To me, it was just good validation for what we were doing. We threw a wrestling card event. Takeover. That was crazy. I did content all day, shout out our sponsor card ladder. They're literally the best. Like they absolutely rocked. It gave me space to do content and just great people. But Yu-Gi-Oh I had so many conversations, it was nonstop. Unfortunately it wasn't until like Saturday, my last day, that I actually could like be a collector and walk around and check everything out and I saw some amazing cards and had some great chats with people during the show, but it was, it was certainly one for the ages. I'm not sure, I hope, I'm not saying I'm not going to go to Fanatics Fest next year, because I would, but I, I hope there's like enough time in between the two events because the two back to back is just too much for me. Yu-Gi-Oh that and I didn't go to Fanatics Fest, but it affected Work and then Comic Con. San Diego. Comic Con is in the middle, which is another just massive event that requires attention and effort on just from a work front. And like those three, three weeks in a row, Are you kidding me? That's not. That's like doing three majors three weeks in a row. It's like, you gotta spread those out a little bit. At least a week in between. Give me a little bit of a break. But Yu-Gi-Oh from your front, though, just going to New York, then back and then to Chicago. That's a lot. And Yu-Gi-Oh same thing. Like, I was. Feel like I was just running all over the place at the show. Didn't get to talk to as many people, collectors and stuff this year as previous years. But I had on Friday, like a two, three hour window where I was like, no, I'm looking at cards. I'm gonna try and find something to buy. Like, the main goal. I was like, got to find something for my daughter. Like, I'm going to find. Like I said, I'm bringing something home. And now I have three hours to activate that. So what am I going to find? Where's a Spider man card? Where's a Batman card? Like, because I'm priced out of Disney. I don't know if you've noticed, but, dude, it's not Disney. I have been paying attention. Yes. Yu-Gi-Oh So priced out of Disney. I had a failed negotiation for a spongebob card, which was. How'd you fail at that? Well, so I'm just, like looking through cases and I see this, like, Topps, Chrome, spongebob base card just sitting, like, raw in a thing. I'm like, oh, perfect. Like, five dollar SpongeBob card. I'm like, can I see that card? Or like, how much for that card? And he looks at it, he goes, $20. I was like, a base card? Yu-Gi-Oh it's a base card. I'm like, this is not $20. And so I'm like, 10. And he's like, you know, what are comps? I'm like, all right. So I pull up card ladder, shout out, card ladder. And I find the most recent sale for that card was $15. And so I was like, all right, $15 cash right now. And he's like, 18. And I was like, can we do. Can we do 15? I was like, it's for my daughter. He's like, nice try. I was like, I'm not lying, dude. It's a Spongebob card offering $15 cash. And he's like, 18. I was like, all right, forget it. Walked away. I just Goldin I wasn't. I wasn't going to break. You don't want to do business with those Topps No. And I wasn't breaking another five for this SpongeBob card. Come on. So I wouldn't. I don't know if you Beckett up on this, but I was, like, trying to source people or dealers and get some feedback. So what I gathered it was very, very hard. Hard for dealers to keep up with inventory. That was like, 100 to, like, you know, $500. It felt like that stuff was just flying. And some of the speculation, which I would love to hear from anybody who's listening to this, who is set up, who is dealing. Higher end. Some people were saying that it might have been more challenging to move bigger cards at the show, but all the dealers that I interacted with all looked exhausted. And we're on our, like, back inventory right now, and it's like, we're not sure, like, how much of this is even gonna last. People were buying cards like crazy. People were paying full sticker on stuff on Saturday. I was just, like, standing, observing. Like, I would stand in between, like, two setups, and I would just listen because I like the negotiation side of it. It's fun. And, dude, it was just. Cards were freaking flying, man. It was. It was nuts. And it was. I don't know, like, do you feel like the setup this year, it certainly felt bigger than ever. That's. I think I. That's gotta be true, just in terms of people. But the show itself just. It felt different. It just felt like a bigger show. Equipped and prepared to not only satisfy the needs of the football card collector, but satisfy the needs of someone who wanted to, you know, go interact and meet with brands and, you know, talk with, you know, maybe about work, that sort of thing. It just. There was obviously the crazy activations. Card ladder was across from, like, the courtyard basketball shot, and people were just erupting left and right. But, Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. It's just bigger than ever. Final measuring stick. For me, it's like when you. This is how every year. This is my measuring stick. It's like, how big is the show? And I measure it by when I walk out to go to my hotel room, that little corral area where everyone's waiting for cars. It's like, how many Sig smokers do we have? How many people are smoking joints right here? Like, what's the. And, dude, I felt like I was at a Cypress Hill concert, like, leaving. I was like, dude, this is Insane. It's like, where's. Be real right now. Where's. Insane in the membrane. I want to come hang out. But that's. It was just a madhouse, man. Yu-Gi-Oh the. That's a good call of leaving just the facility. How crowded that was the bottleneck at the escalator. There's also another. Just the escalator line. And then once the stair line starts backing up because, like, I stopped taking the escalator, you know, by Thursday, because it's just always Beckett and I'm like, nope, I can get the steps in. Let's do it. But sometimes then the staircase was Beckett up, and then that just at the top of that escalator going into that upstairs area was just. I'm surprised. I'm not sick. It was just, you know, it felt like I was living back in New York. Like, going down into the Sepia of just shoulder to shoulder. Everyone's doing the little penguin walk, you know, trying to inch forward. But then you throw in giant card cases into the mix. Yu-Gi-Oh And then it felt busier than years passed especially. Yu-Gi-Oh Like, once it. I feel like once noon hit, it was just Beckett everywhere. And that's still my biggest gripe. I feel like I saw so many cards, but I feel like I saw none at all. That's how I feel. It's like, what did I even see? What just happened? It was just all a blur. I. I'm still waiting for people to start doing, like, give me the, like, fast food LED screen behind you that is showing what's in your case. Because half the time you, like, walk up to someone's case, and there's two people already there. Someone's got their backpack on the case. Someone has their Zion on the case. And, like, I can't. I can't see what's in there. And they're just asking this dealer if they're buying. And then the dealer is, like, not interested, but is like, all right, I'll take a look. And then they're not interested. And then they just spent 10 minutes covering all the cards, and I saw nothing. And so I don't know. That's my. One of my gripes is just I saw every card, but I saw none at all. I did, like. I did, like, how segmented things kind of felt. I feel like the what not Thunderdome in that whole area was just kind of, like, on its own, off to itself. Yu-Gi-Oh I could just, like, avoid it. But if you, like, went past that, I liked you could find that there was, like, that cove of extra Dealers like where? Like, like Slab Stocks was back there and like Nas was back there like with his 90s stuff. So I don't know, I just. Even the last day. And this happens every national, but I always feel like I'm discovering a whole new section. Like towards the end. It's where there's labyrinth or something. Yu-Gi-Oh There are certain aisles I walk down 20 times. I'll be like, oh, Yu-Gi-Oh I've seen this, I've seen this, I've seen this. Then all of a sudden I just stumble upon an area where there's another hundred tables that I never saw. So it's awesome. I think my heaven would be going to the national, but I'm the only customer and I could just spend. Everyone set up, all dealers are there. That would be the best. Look at everything and talk to the dealers in a nice calm environment, but Zebra duper vip. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh What do I have to pay to be the. To have a private national experience? One. One thing I'll say, and I just have to. I have to get this off my chest. And I am a proponent of free speech. It is a great thing that we have. We can say what we want and everybody can exercise their voice and opinions on what they want and what they like, what they don't like. And I'm going to exercise my freedom of speech to complain about the complainers. Mm. The individuals that just bitch and complain about everything. It's like, give me a break. You can't have it both ways. You can't have cards you want that you have, you can't have. You can't desire them to continue to go up in value so you can sell them for all time highs and then on the other side bitch about what's happening with sports cards in the industry from an infrastructure and growth perspective. If you don't like it, just move on. Like, don't pay attention to it. This hobby, whatever you want to call it, is growing at scale, which brings in opportunities to service a variety of participants in this space. Some people like to collect and hold the cards forever. Some people like to flip. Some people like to do breaks. Some people like to shoot content with cameras. Go figure. Let's promote the hobby. But that's a problem. I just think the old guard or individuals in the old guard just need to understand or maybe just be a little bit flexible to see that this is never going back to the way that you envision utopia of the hobby. Going into your dingy card shop where it smells like cigarettes and you know, you can find A grail and then resell it for, you know, thousands of dollars. Like, it's more competitive, there's more people, there's more technology, there's more money, there's more companies, there's more everything. And so I just think we need to be a little more adaptable and accepting. And if you don't want to accept it, like, just like, why are you rude? Why are you pissing in everyone else's Cheerios? Like, just enjoy the show. That's. That's my feedback. Yep. Talk to him. I just had to get that off my chest. That's been stewing. Yu-Gi-Oh but it's a, it's a valid call. Like, this is what it is now. And there's something for everyone too. Like, if the national is too much. Like, you don't have to go to the national. Like, nope, there's. Or like there are ways to enjoy the national where none of that should bother you. Like, if you had the time, you could patiently just go down the lunch line of the showcases and just see what you want and talk. Like, you don't have to run all over the place and do it. Like all these things that, you know, you might want to complain about or like, you don't have to be on camera or film stuff. Like, I don't know. Yu-Gi-Oh I've seen. Yes. People complain about all the facets of it. And I don't know, it's still the place with the most cards ever in one area. Like, enjoy that. Go see the cards. This will never be custom tailored to your wants and desires exactly how you see fit. That's. I just think you just gotta, you gotta adapt, you gotta evolve. But man, it's the excitement around cards and football cards specifically feels like it's at an all time high, which is exciting. It's very fun and it motivates me to be able to get up here each and every week to talk about football. And dude, we've got our guys back on the field. Like, we're halfway through training camp already. So it's, it's a good time, man. I'm excited to get in here. It's episode 59. Do you have any final national notes before we kind of get into. Is this the last episode of Linebacker Summer? Dude, this is, this is episode 59. Linebacker summer is coming to an end. Yu-Gi-Oh Two last notes, one shout out. Mr. And Mrs. Black Hat cards. Legends met up with them because I was gifted a 2002 Finest Refractor, Chris Carter, one of the memorabilias I was missing that that come now. I now have 13 out of the 14 of the veteran memorabilia Refractor patches. So a needed piece. I was so pumped to get that when I found out he was giving me that, like, on the way to meet him, I was like, I have to find a villain card or some sort of bad person card. And so I was like, where's an OJ Card? Let me find just like a shitty vintage OJ card. Pro said Yu-Gi-Oh. But I Goldin I. I struck out. But. So the. To the Black hat card. Fam. Some. I will find something. I'm. I told them I'm waiting for someone like current to commit a crime. And then I'm gonna have send them that card first so it'll be fresh because they've already. He already has everybody who's, you know, it's. It's got to be a rookie villain. I've got a merchandise idea. So when we get into the T shirt business, how fun would it be? How. How nerdy would a niche would this be to have a T shirt of just. It's like 2002 Finest. Just the memorabilia guys, like the guys from. On the memorabilia side as one collection of human beings. So when you look at the shirt, everyone can just understand who's got memorabilia in their card. If they're going out collecting a. A Finest set from 2002. I think that I'm a buyer. There's at least out there who would buy that shirt. I know you are. What size are you? We'll get you. We'll get you in. We'll get you in your shirt. I'll go large. I like having a little. Little room. And then 2015 Prizm football boxes. I brought two of them. I ripped one at the like PSA set registry dinner. We. There's always like boxes that get ripped there. Pretty much struck out. I did hit a rookie optic gold vinyl auto of. I can't even remember his name now. Desmond. Desmond Lewis for the Bills. Never heard of him. No. But then. So. And then I was going to rip that next box later, but ended up going Whatnot to the casino, was playing baccarat till like 2am which was. Baccarat is awesome, by the way. My. Maybe my new game of choice. But then. And this was Friday night and I was leaving Saturday morning and I got back to my hotel. It's like 2:15am I have to pack. But there's a box of 2015 Prizm sitting on that shelf still. I was like, you know what? I'm gonna rip this box by myself. And it was so much fun. I did hit a 2015 Prizm Gold vinyl. Jordan Matthews, wide receiver. You had a gold vinyl. Get a gold vinyl. True of the Eagles. So I hit a gold vinyl in each box, which I feel like that's pretty good. Yes. Odds. And I reached out to Philly Special cards. Yes. That's who I was gonna say you should. And I was just like, I just hit this. Do you want it? And he's like, yes. So have that going out to him. That felt good to not only, like, hit a card like that, like, the. The thrill of seeing the gold vinyl. Like, I sweated it. I did everything, you know, that a breaker does. I saw the edge of the gold vinyl. I'm like, oh, my God, this is gold vinyl. I'm going to hold this debut year, hold it till the end. And they look awesome. They look so good. The 2015. So I still have two more boxes, 2015 Prizm that I think we have to rip on stream for football card pod for the start of the season. So that sounds like fun that. The fact that I hit two gold vinyls in the first two, to me is like, there's a gold vinyl in every box. Or that means these next two are going to be Absolute duds. I don't know yet. But Yu-Gi-Oh So fun to. To rip a product. I feel like. Did you get any. Did you pull any violet Mosaic out of 50? No. Nothing else really. Of note. I hit like a blue Wave Cam Newton that just kind of looks cool as, like a color match and a. Like a marshawn green something. A lot. All the rookie autos were just duds. Like, I was like, I don't know who these people are. It's a rough, rough year. It's a rough year. But a couple base Brady cards and some inserts. A silver Julio Jones. So, Yu-Gi-Oh but it was fun. It's all about the fun. 2015 is so nice, man. I just. I think it's a great year. Yu-Gi-Oh And it's still like, I got those boxes when they're like 200 bucks each. I think they're up to like 300 now, which that's still. I don't know. I'd rather kind of rip a box of 2015 Prizm than a brand new box of Topps Chrome or something. I don't know. But Yu-Gi-Oh Any other final notes from you? Nothing particular. Just I had fun talking about the football card pod with so many people. So shout out to you, the loyalty listener people. Who's like another football card pod guy that we, you know some running back that had Lorenzo Aaron Sprols. Sprols Sprouls would be a good one. Lorenzo Neil just. I'm just imagining the promo of like, you know, people are like, oh, the, the Whatnot party with Logan Paul and Speed and it's like the football card podcast with Vontes Burfitt. Vontes Burfect and Lorenzo Neal signing. I Yes, I would love to figure out how we can do that. I think I was saying this to you before we hit record. The highlight of my national was wrestling card takeover and it was validation for how we're building and developing and designing content here on the Stacking Slabs network by creating category specific shows like we're doing here. And then the next step of that would be well, can we bring people together? We got. We had 350 shirts printed. They were gone within the first hour. There were more people. It was nuts, man. But it was so cool because everyone there just wanted to talk about wrestling and wrestling cards and so definitely a highlight for my week and so my wheels already spinning. It's like well how can we do this next year for a football card? So well get to work. We've got a whole calendar year. We'll see what strings we can pull but. But hopefully we can bring that to everyone next year. Yep. Episode 59 the finale of Linebacker Summer and there is only one currently as of recording Wednesday, August 5th one linebacker, one player in the hall of Fame to wear. 59 Jack Ham. As of in like two weeks there'll be another which we'll, we'll get to him but Jack Ham, linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Four time Zebra bowl champion, six time first team all pro, eight time Pro Bowler. Just a beast. And the one thing I just like to call out about Jack Ham, his career stats include 21 fumbles recovered and 32 interceptions. So I think it was. He has the most takeaways in NFL history by a non defensive back with 53. And there's something, there's just something about 32 interceptions from a linebacker. Give me linebackers who are getting picks like that's. We kind of were talking I think about Tremaine Edmonds like being tall, getting interceptions. I don't know. Something. Yu-Gi-Oh I love the hard hitting linebacker. I love the you know, neck roll linebacker but the versatile reading the D linebacker getting interceptions. There's something, something about that that is fun. But another 59 who will soon be a Hall of Famer. You want to talk a little about him? Yu-Gi-Oh I want to talk about Luke Kely but before I do that I have to do an honorable mention. Now that we were talking about interceptions and it just my brain exploded. Gotta shout out KO June Kin was was a. He was on, he was on the starting linebacking core of the Zebra bowl team but at one point he had. I'm looking. He's got 12 career interceptions. I felt like it should be more because maybe it was.05. He had five, but he had like those five in like the first five weeks of the season. I was like, this guy's an interception machine. So shout out Cato June. But Keak Lee, let's see here. What a stud. It's almost. He feels very much like Andrew Luck to me, where it's almost like, did that guy just that he. Did he really happen. And ironically they share the same rookie year. So 2012 to 2019, he is the second youngest player ever inducted in the hall of Fame behind Gail Sarer. So how about that? I think he's the linebacker of the era. This era. Certainly. He was the defensive player of the year in his second year, 2013 defensive rookie of the year in 2012. Five time first team all pro second time, second team all pro two time, I should say. And then he was the combined tackles leader in two years. He finished his career with 1092 tackles, 12 and a half sacks, 18 interceptions, seven force fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two touchdowns. I was doing some studying and trying to get some stories around him for this and the sentiment across the board and maybe his legacy is just one of the smartest players in NFL history. His gimmick was he used to go pre snap during the like when the quarterback is like, you know, getting the formation everything right. He used to like yell out what play that the offense was going to run. And it was like always right because he was just. He knew exactly what was going on. So certainly a wonderful player. I did some investigation on his sales history and it feels like to me like his cards, I don't know if they're locked away in a collection or whatever, but they should be selling for more. So like for instance, his gold Prizm Rookie, which it's a sick card from 2012, first year Prizm in 21, during the peak of the hobby in the COVID era, this sold for a thousand dollars. So that's wild. His highest selling card of all time is $2,400, which is the 23 autograph black Shimmer, one of one and a PSA 10. So this guy is one of the best football players ever and his card sell for nothing. Yu-Gi-Oh I feel like I even remember he had like a 2013 finite or something just sitting on ebay. Maybe it was just a 2013 true gold. There was a post. Yu-Gi-Oh Kely card sitting on ebay for a while that I'm like, should I buy this? Because he's awesome. And this is an awesome card. But Yu-Gi-Oh that his surprising high sale. I figured he'd have something closer to 3, 4, $5,000. That Prizm goal. When I saw that, I did not realize he was 2012. And that's funny because I went down the same path of like, Yu-Gi-Oh He's like, him and Luck are kind of interesting there. Like, and then I'm like, how. What does Luck. Will Luck ever get in the hall? Probably not. Probably not. He probably needed like. Cause Keecley played eight full seasons, Luck played six full seasons. And I at not five full seasons, five and a half seasons for Luck, but eight seasons getting in the hall for Keecley. That's pretty, pretty crazy. So Luck probably needed another two or three really high level seasons to be there. I don't want to deviate from linebacker summer, but did you by chance see Andrew Luck throwing footballs on the Internet this week? I did not. That's not so. Zach Ertz is recovering from injury and he was at Stanford and he must have needed someone to throw him footballs. But Luck was just by. Dude, it looked like a training camp video. I was like, get back on the field, man. Get back on the field. It was awesome. Dang. Yu-Gi-Oh No, that. I feel like your algorithm. Yu-Gi-Oh it's just all awesome. That one missed mine. I'm watching be safety Kobe Bryant go down in training camp out eight to 10 weeks and I'm very. My. My feed is very Bears coated. Of course. Yes. But Yu-Gi-Oh Shout out Luke Keighley. Shout out Andrew Luck. Which then, by the way, I was on Andrew Luck's pro football reference. Andrew Luck's career completion percentage, 60.8. Caleb Williams is 60.3. I don't ever remember the completion percentage discourse for Andrew Luck being a thing. That was never a thing. Read just. Just for my own, just to warm my heart, will you Andrew Luck's last year of playing football. Read his stats. Well, his last year, he really helped his cause. He had. They went 10, 6. 67% completion, 4593 yards, 39 touchdowns, 15 interceptions. Comeback Player of the Year only took 18 sacks. So he. He had that awareness going. And then rushing. I feel like he was moving only 148 rushing yards. He toned it down a little bit after the lacerated kidney. I'm surprised he only took 18 sacks in 16 games. In 18, you know, those early years, he was getting beat up. But Yu-Gi-Oh his rookie year, 54% completion. His second year, 60%. So chill out, everybody. That's all I got to say. The, the completion police are. Are waiting. So I need this season to start so that the completion police. But they're gonna. Oh, they're gonna be watching their effort. Every throw dissected. All right, episode 59. Let's get into some questions. First up, from Pack to the Future podcast. What football cards stopped you in your tracks while walking the national Fleer I'll just say it. We've seen it on the Internet so much via Instagram stories. And that would be the 2017 black finite of Patrick Mahomes. One of the most important cards, I would say of the era. I actually got a chance. I was walking around and bumped into Rob. I was like, that's the old price. And Rob and I got a chance to chat a little bit. And you know, he is just the. He's, he's a man of. He's got his firm ways of how he wants to operate. But you know, we talk and it's great. It's. It was. I asked him about the Mahomes. He was giving me a little background on it being there and this and that. And so that card is incredible. Like, it's just an amazing card. So it was. I've never seen it in person. It was cool to see it in person. Yu-Gi-Oh What a card. Like, true. Like I've seen it on Instagram, but there is something about seeing it IRL that is pretty powerful. I feel like wasn't seeing. I don't know. Again, I feel like there was nothing in a case that. I mean, I'm sure there were awesome cards, but the ones that jump out to me are more of the like personal favorites. Like I talked to Jason Chicago Bears cards. He had some of his like Cutler Finest Superfractor with him. That for me personally, I'm like, oh my God, these, this is more exciting to me than seeing like a Brady Flawless or you know, a Mahomes Kaboom. So those were awesome. And saw. Talked to Josh Johnson for a little bit and went through his cards and just unreal collection. Like Sean Alexander Superfractor, Leon Bell Gold vinyl, all the finites, you know, that he has. Just love fantasy football players, love rare cards. That's just a very. It's a Pac Nicholson coated collection right there. So enjoy. Did you get to see the gym Master Manning at Heritage? I didn't. I saw it all over socials, but I didn't get a up close look at it. So I felt like I saw it in the most optimal way possible. It was on Saturday when I was just being a dude walking the Fleer And I ran into Drake. And I ran into Drake several times. Shout out, Drake. I had a good time. Always good time, hanging. Drake was like, do you want to go see the Manning? And I was like, of course I do. This is. I've got all the time in the world. Let's go. And we saw it and Drake was like, you know, if you take. He had, like, his phone out. He's like, if you take it and you, like, look at it from this way, it gives this effect. And I, like, turned my head and saw it. I was like, okay. Like, I get it. Like, I, of course, like, I'm still not, like, I don't think it's, like, the greatest looking card of all time, but it is. I have. I leave the national with a better impression based on me seeing the card in person, which I thought was good. And I mean, get your popcorn out. I mean, that card especially, I get the. Let's put these big cards at our booth. Let's run these auctions. Because the amount of foot traffic those activations get is insane. And if you've got the funds to be in the game for big cards, like, seeing it in person and then going home thinking about it, it's like, it's going to increase the likelihood that you're going to put in a strong bid. So that is, like, one little storyline that I think is never really discussed, but it's so smart. It makes so much sense. Like, I love that. Yes. Seeing those IRL changes things. And, like, I totally understand that that card in person would look better than a scan. Interestingly enough, one night I ran into Brady Hill, who was like, the owner of that card, auctioning that card, and got to talk to him for a while. And what a. What a great, awesome collector collection. Just insane stories, but was cool to hear just about the hobby. And, like, that's what the national is. It's so fun to, like, meet some of these people in real life that, like, you follow on Instagram or have, you know, just heard about or seen some of their collection. And then you get to talk to them and hear their collecting stories, collecting advice, wisdom. It's the only time, really of the year that you get to talk to other people who are sickos like us. So did you stop him? No. So I was with my good friend Mikey. Mikey. We were stopping at his hotel for a pit stop before going to the casino. At the hotel bar, Mikey's like, oh, that's Brady. Like, he knew him. And so just went over and sat down with him and had a couple drinks and just talked. Talked cards. And I was like, this is sick. Just talking, talking. The hobby with. His collection's insane. Like, it's one of the most insane collections I've ever seen. Yu-Gi-Oh his collection is nuts. I. I had a moment where I. I got a workout in. I was starving. This was at the Lowe's Hotel. And I was like, I'm gonna go shower first. I was like, I'm too hungry, and I want coffee. Too bad. I was like, it was a very. It was a lighter workout. I'm like, I can towel off and, like, you know, sit by myself and eat this breakfast. And I go. I go, like, get in my booth at the. What's the name of the restaurant there? Do you remember the Aberdeen? Is that what it's called? Oh, like in the Lowe's. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Something with an A. Yu-Gi-Oh So I sit out, and as I'm sitting down and getting my coffee, like, I'm on my phone, and I, like, look up, and, like, right as I look up, it's just Gary V. Just. I'm like, this is, like. This is, like, in no other place but the national is. You know, you're going to be breaking bread in the same breakfast room as the hypebeast himself. Yu-Gi-Oh good. Good little breakfast buffet. Overpriced, though. I mean. Oh, see, I ordered direct. I'm not a buffet guy. I just. I was like, I'm just going to go off the menu after my long run with Josh and shout out Josh for organizing the runs every year. It's becoming a tradition, and it's fun. I. I go for the steak and eggs. I just. I just did it. It's like, of course, it cost a lot of money, but I was like, I'm gonna treat myself. Why not? Yu-Gi-Oh that's a good call. I did the. Do the buffet for just speed of, like, I can get in and eat, but, like, then if I'm. If you're doing that, you're not coming away ahead on the buffet, because. That's right. It's like 30 bucks for all you can eat. In theory. But if I'm just in there to eat a quick breakfast, it's like, I just paid $30 for eggs and three pieces bacon and some. Some fruit. Like, I. I would like to sit down for two hours and put in some work here. That's my money. Yu-Gi-Oh Next year, we'll do the buffet and block out. Two hours. Yu-Gi-Oh Breakfast break. So first his first statement. I think this is referring to us giving so much praise to question asker of the year candidates, TKD tickets and bullet card crew because he goes, FYI, these guys coming in hot last second getting too much hype for question asking. There needs to be something said for consistency and continuity. So shout out Chargers PC Sports Cards. Throwing down the gauntlet and saying, hey, I'm here too. Chargers versus Chargers crime. I love it. I think we might be the number one Chargers podcast in the nation. Chargers football card podcast in the nation. He says one question or onto the question and this has multiple parts. You've been hired by Panini, full team licenses, no restrictions. You've been asked to design a card of your favorite player. Front and back tell us who's the player, what's the image? What do the borders and base of the card look like? Is it numbered? Colors, shine, etc. And what's on the back of the card? This is such a detailed question. Appreciate you Chargers PC Sports Card. So my first thing that always comes to my mind is the image of and I've got it hanging in my office signed in a nice, it's presented in a nice frame is the image of Bob Sanders kissing the Zebra bowl trophy. So I would probably do like a Bob Sanders kissing the Zebra bowl trophy with we don't really even really need to be full borders. It can be, it can be full bleed. Just, just Bob kissing the trophy. It's going to be a one of one and it's this year of product that we're dropping has a special moment for team collector. So every team collector gets a special moment and there's only one of one and the Colts version of that is this Bob card. So on the back of this card it's going to just be like a, it's almost like self motivational like copy on the back about like you being a fan of your team. So there's going to be a version for each of you and it's going to highlight the moments. So obviously they're going to talk about Zebra Bowl 41 with the image but that's something to that effect is and it's going to be shiny. It's got to be shiny. So no autos because if it's Panini I got to live in the reality that if it's a shiny card and it's I guess it could be optic and it could be a non sticker auto. But Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. I don't. I almost want this to be a new product so I don't want to associate it with a brand. But it's going to be, it's going to be shiny. Yu-Gi-Oh I like that, that. See the Bears don't have a moment like that for me. So I was like, I went with my boy Priest Holmes. He has an iconic touchdown pose. Like when he crossed the plane, he kind of like spread his arms and held the ball out. Like give me that picture on the front of a card, make it a black one on one and on the back it's just, it's got stats. It's talking about how he scored 66 touchdowns in a 38 game stretch. And like I, I feel like that could be the set where it's just crazy stats on the back like Tomlinson's MVP season or just other people who had unreal stretches. Just focusing on statistics. Kind of like I feel like impeccable does something like that. Like you know there'll be a numbers kind of the focus, but that would be on the back. I want a cool pick on the front probably. Yu-Gi-Oh like a black finite pattern as well. Next up from TKD tickets last week you said, quote, I think the ship might have sailed for me with Jock with a Josh Allen card, end quote. I wanted to pull that apart a bit. I say something similar. I miss the boat for lots of things in general. It's my way of saying something is a lot more expensive now. But when I really dig into it hobby wise, usually it is something that wasn't in my collecting focus at the time. So I didn't really miss out for the few things that I really did miss the boat on for reasons like availability, budget, confidence in the hobby, or just not the right time in my life. I've actually gone back and gotten some of them and paid the premium. It makes me wonder what are the cards that the ship may have sailed at the time but are still in your sights to add to your collection. So when I read this question, the first thing I thought of was just there's like my mind went to Peyton Manning cards and there's just too many Peyton Manning cards to count. But I think it's a decision that my equity in my collection has increased, which makes the opportunity more manageable. So if these cards presented themselves, I would want them and I could make the decision to sell off part of my collection to get them but then there's access and the access to those cards is a roadblock. And so you have to have all of these things align. It's like you have to have. You already understand you love the card and you might know you should have bought it five years ago, but it's more expensive now. But it's like that. Having that card come at a moment where you're comfortable and you want it enough to get rid of your collection to fund it. It's like all those things have to happen. And there's a lot of paid manning cards for me that kind of fall into that category. So that's where my mind went. That's a good call. Feel like I, I've got stuck trying to parse the difference between the ship sailing and missing the boat. Is there a difference? I don't know. That's what I'm wondering. Like if, if the ship has sailed, can you still get to that ship eventually like via another ship? Like the ship is still sailing or if you missed the boat, like same thing. It's like, is it over? Like, I don't know, is there? I think you can. I think you can. Like you'd have to pay money to get on like a speedboat to then catch up and then so you can jump into the boat. Yes, money solves anything. Yes, it involves money is the answer because like I've used the term miss the boat and in my experience it's not football related but 2013 select gold basketball. I have. I'm collecting that. I remember when there was a Kobe Bryant just sitting on Fanatics collect. one-of-one Curry went to auction and they both ended around like 5 or 6k which at the time I just didn't. I don't know. I wasn't. That didn't have the conviction in the set or it wasn't a main chase. Whatever. Those cards are now much, much more expensive. I think I missed the boat on those at the same time because he mentions something of like makes me wonder what are the cards that the ship may have sailed at the time but are still in your sights to add to your collection. Which makes me think another. You could be on another ship that sails towards the ship that you met the boat that you missed. I'm on a sailing ship to the missed boat. Should we call decaptain37 to help us set sail and find. Go on a voyage to. To get on track? I think so. I think that's what needs to happen here. But in theory, if those cards came up like I could probably get Them if I sold like everything. Yu-Gi-Oh you saw you sell all your other gold so you can get the main. Yu-Gi-Oh so like they're still in my. The ship has sailed but they're still in my sights is what he's saying. I don't know. Maybe. Yu-Gi-Oh just get on a plane. That's. That's the answer. Find new pastures. Next up from J cuts713. I'm curious about how others display their cards. Lots of money goes into the cards, but then not as much time and care into how they are displayed. Could be just me, but I don't see many cool setups given how much time and money goes into finding long term PC cards. This is a great topic because I think there is this conversation that exists that has never really been explored and you have the display people and you have the non display people and the display people can't understand why the non display people don't have display. And then the non display people can't understand why the display people invest in having the display. And it's a big, big division in this hobby. And I think this is a fun conversation. So I try to think about this for myself. I'm a non display guy and I have been a display guy but I've been in display guy when I've been a figure collector and I've gotten the figures on display. I've. I have IKEA cases, all this stuff and to me like figures, I prefer them to be displayed. I'm not gonna, as much as I would love to like you know, pull out, you know, Stone Cold and Rock Elites and have WrestleMania 17 and do the match and like with the ring myself, I feel like I might have grown past that a little bit. But the cards, I fear the display. I've got three kids, you know, that's a central piece of focus. If you've got displays like your children are interested in the. What's in those displays. I go to my parents house. My mom has displays of like those precious moments. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh she's got cases of this and my kids are like magnets to it every time. So no go on display for me. I try to keep the least amount of tension in My House to my cards is humanly possible. They are in my closet in a case in the dark. But what's fun about it is because whenever I'm feeling down, whenever I need some motivation, I go into that dark closet, I grab my cards out of the case and I just pop open the top and I just get to spend some time that's how I spend my time. It's therapeutic. But Yu-Gi-Oh Not a display guy, but I know people are. I know Timmer. Timmer's cards. Big shout out to Tim. He created like himself. Handyman. Created a insane display system for his cards in his case. So that's cool. But Yu-Gi-Oh I don't think. I don't ever see myself being a card display guy. But I respect cool displays when I see them. Absolutely. I laughed out loud when I saw your note. That was like timbers built one. I keep my cars in a box. That. That was very simple. Yu-Gi-Oh I would. I was. I was like. I was tr. I was in a time construct. I was trying to just talking points on the dock. Like remember to say this. Keep my cards in a box. Same. And then I'm over here googling Precious Moments. Priest Holmes. Precious Moments Chicago Bears. I was like, they make them? Well, I was like, have they done like NFL collabs? And of course they have. So there's tons of Precious Moments Bears related. But then I was wondering if there's specific players because. Shout out Precious Moments. Truly an OG collectible. Oh, dude. Yu-Gi-Oh I. Precious Moments. The Santa villages, those villages that are built we like. I'm like, you know what? Like there's a reason why I'm obsessed with what I like. It's like it's. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Yu-Gi-Oh We've got nice little. The, you know like the light up Christmas houses that you get and you like build the village of strictly. Bars. Bars. Oh like we've just got. I was like, I want to make like a stretch that's just like a bar crawl where it's like bar, pub, billiards bar. So I think we have like four or five now and it's. It's. That's cool. Yu-Gi-Oh I was like, I don't need the town hall, city hall. I don't need the like shoe repair store. I don't need the. The windmill store. Just give me. Give me some pubs. So. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. I have like a few choice cards on display in this bookshelf over here. Mainly like I have a couple Bears vintage cards that just look cool aesthetically. And then I have a Mike Brown rookie card. I had to have Mike Brown get some representation. But beyond that I don't have anything else visible. I have. I'm tempted by those like three by three framed slab things for like a wall. You know, it's like you could have like nine cards in a like slab case on a wall. Then I would like rotate out different lineups each week depending on like where the Bears are at, what, what juju I need to happen, what, what the vibes need to be like maybe defense has been lacking lately. So I fill it all with like Bears defensive greats. That hasn't happened yet. That just doing like a permanent installation for a card display is another barrier. I feel like even just having some out on this bookshelf is one, one hurdle. Getting a, getting cards installed on a wall becomes like another different conversation with the wife and family and same thing then with kids around it just becomes a magnet for like I want, like these are play things. I want to play with them. All right, final question. A two parter from Drake's PC who is one player who had they stayed on one team their entire career you think would be more highly regarded. Similarly, who is one player who is that is more highly regarded because they played on multiple teams. This is the first part of the question. This is actually this first part of the question has two, has two questions. Drake somehow Trojan horse like four questions into this question. Okay, so this was like when I read the question, the two that instantly came to my mind were on the first, if a player would have just stayed on one team. Odell Beckham Jr. Was the first guy that I could I thought of because I'm not sure he is just live like he's remembered in the moment of being a giant in that catch. And he was so popular during that time that I don't know like the rest of I know he on the Ram Zebra bowl run. Like he obviously got hurt but like he had some moments there. But I just feel like if he would have stayed in New York the entire time that would have maybe helped his case. And then I feel like Deion Sanders because he played on just like monster teams. You know he started on the Falcons but you know playing for the Cowboys and the 49ers and you could throw the, the Ravens in there. But I just, I, I just feel like that maybe helped his case out a lot because exposure to fan bases and that sort of thing. So those are the two that came to my mind. Yu-Gi-Oh And the fact he like one with multiple teams. Yu-Gi-Oh like anyone who is going to be known for or more highly regarded for playing for multiple teams, you had to one-of-one on multiple teams. Like anyone else kind of just gets like oh, they're jumping around ring chasing whatever it may be. But so I think Dion great example there. I think Manning and Brady too. Again the fact that other places and they one-of-one is a positive, I think someone who could have if they stayed on one team their whole time. Brandon Marshall. Brandon Marshall has unreal career stats. Played 14 seasons, played for six different teams in 14 years. The Bron, the Broncos was his longest tenure with four seasons. And he was on the Bears for three other. I think the jets for two. Yu-Gi-Oh Just kind of was like bouncing around. Did a year with the Giants, did a year with Seattle. So if his career was just on one team, he is Mike Evans. His. His stats are literally pretty much Mike Evans, who I think is Mike Evans, is more highly regarded because he stayed on one team where if Mike Evans was bouncing around, I don't think he's as highly regarded. So I mentioned this, but I was in the building the day Brandon Marshall broke the single game. Receptions. Right. Like, it was insane. It was an indie. And I was like, this guy's a beast. Does Mike Evans legacy gets hurt now that he's in San Francisco? No. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't think so either. Like, he put in such 12 years, 13,000 yards. Yu-Gi-Oh Under eight touchdowns. His stats. All right, I take that back. His stats are better than Brandon Marshall's. Yu-Gi-Oh I thought they might. Brandon Marshall's close though. Brandon Marshall, who again though has at this point played two more seasons than Mike Evans, had 12,400 yards, 83 touchdowns. Okay, so Mike Evans at 13,108 touchdowns is pretty sick. If you break 100 touchdowns, you're all time, in my opinion. No doubt. And then. All right, Drake's second question, which. I like this because this kind of. I was like, good call out Drake. He says you both often mention collector to collector acquisition stories as being one of the best parts of the hobby. When it comes time to sell for whatever reason, it's often easier to just throw cards in a box and send to auction. But doing that robs another collector of a cool acquisition story like you may have had with those cards. Other than speed and ease, what factors do you both consider when deciding whether to move cards privately versus sending to auction? So rob is a very aggressive word, Drake. I don't. Yu-Gi-Oh that's a. I. I want to just state that up front. And I will say this. Selling directly is, for me, it's very circumstantial. There has to be a lot of different things in play. Part of the reason is I'm not spending my time selling cards because I don't want to. If you have asked me about a card for a long time and I like you and I'm Getting ready to sell it, then I'll give you a crack at it. That's about it. If I see you're building something and a card I have might help you and I know I like you. The key here is I like you. I like you. Like, I'll give you a crack at it before auction. I spend way too much time in this space the way it is. The last thing I'm going to do is, like, do story sales and like, manage those conversations. Then, like, individually ship out. Like, I'm not going to do it. It just. I don't want to do it. It takes up way too much time. It is way easier for me to put the cards in a box and send them to consignment. I am never trying to sell a card because I have to get more for it because I paid a certain amount. That's not how I think about cards. It's. I think about cards in batches and I think about acquisition I'm getting and I need cards to fund it. So the auction format is just way easier. And the other thing is. And people are so scared of them. I love when my cards are up for auction. I love following them. I love that. That Sunday night is entertainment for me. You know how people spend money buying the breaks and they're like, oh, I lost $200, but it was entertainment. My entertainment is like getting my kids down on a Sunday and being like, I've got cards ending tonight. And just watching them end, it's awesome. Like, anybody listening has to enjoy that feeling. That feeling is unmatched. Even when the cards go for less than I expect. I love that wire to wire action. Following it all week. Boom. So I'm not robbing anybody of anything. If they want the experience, they can bid on the damn card. So that's my mindset and mentality when it comes to this question. Yu-Gi-Oh 100%. Like he says, are there any other factors besides time and ease? Speed and ease. It's like, not really. And speed and ease are awesome factors. That, yes, little kids, man, we've got so much to do all the time. It's just hard. I literally last night Beckett up some consignment orders, and for a second I'm like, should I throw these on my story? And it's like, no. Like, I just don't want to deal with it. Certain situations, like, if there were. There are certain cards that if I were going to move them, I do reach out to some people. Like, like, bear stuff. I have a Bears network. I'll Be like, are you interested in this or not? Like, I do give people a heads up. Like, some of these cards, I gave people a chance and it's just so much easier to send something to auction or like that. Here's what I want to say about that situation, though. If you have a card that you know your bears friends want, isn't it easier just to play Switzerland and throw it up for auction and be like, good luck, pals. That's where, that's where I've ended up. Because, like, I feel like people are interested. But then, then it just goes into negotiating, which I just don't want to do. Especially on some of these cards that don't have recent comps or just, it's just hard. And I'm like, let's, you know what, I'll make this easier for everyone if, if I think this is worth 600 and you think it's worth $400. Like, maybe I just put at auction and you might get it for 300 if you bid 400. Like, or maybe I'm more right with the market. Who knows? Like, it's just, it's hard. But the no recent comps thing is huge because you're doing someone a favor by saying, this card hasn't sold for four years. I'm presenting it to you. Like, would you like to make an offer on it before I go to auction? And then that is, I think this is a very fine thing to do. If you have a card that you're not like, you're thinking about selling or you see someone has cards that this might be a perfect fit. I think it is completely acceptable to say, I saw you have these cards. I wasn't planning on selling this. But if you like to make an offer on this card, then I would be listening because of I know you this and that. Like, I think that's completely acceptable. And if you don't like the offer, you don't have to sell the card. But ultimately, if it's a no recent comp card, you don't have to deal with the people trying to say, oh, well, it's worth this much. It's like, how do you know it's like, hasn't sold? So that's why I love to send the cards to auction because the market's going to tell you what they're worth. Yu-Gi-Oh in the, like, I've done story sales and it's just, I don't know, there is something dejecting when you throw up a story sale and no one buys anything and then you're like, okay, now I have to send these to auction. And now they have zero momentum. Or like, you ruin the. You ruin it, man. You. By doing that. No one wants to see the card multiple times on a story sale. And then at auction, it's not as cool that way. You got to unveil at the auction block when it pops up available for auction. There's urgency, there's. Oh, God, like, now I have to engage in this, like, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. But like, things like that. Jordan Matthews gold vinyl that I pulled. Like, because for a second I was like, this is just. Because I already was building a consignment pile. I'm like, I'm just going to throw this in there. And I was like, wait. Like, literally, it was like he. Simon Philly special cards had, like, liked a recent picture. Like, I don't know. I just, like, he was at top of mind. I was like, let me look at his profile. Like, I feel like he wants this type of stuff. And I. It took me one scroll to find he had the 2015 Prizm Gold base. Jordan Matthews. So I'm like, I think he might want this card. It would be cool to. And I. I said, hey, I just pulled this. Do you want it? He's like, yes. How much? I told him the price. He's like, yep. And was just the easiest, greatest transaction it could be. So there are definitely times for it. But then when it's like this pile of 13 cards that I want to sell, I'm just. I'm not doing a story sale. They're. They're hitting auction. And that's that final note on this for me is I have absolutely nothing but love for consignment businesses. It is. We all have needs in this hobby. My number one need is having someone sell my cards on my behalf, because I don't want to do it, dude. I remember getting back into cards before I knew anything about consignment. And I remember how big of a pain in the ass it was to list cards myself. I was like, this is going to take me like, two hours. So consignment is one of my favorite elements of this hobby. Shout out all you consignment companies who help people sell cards. You have. You do something that a lot of people like me, really appreciate. So shout out consignment companies. Yu-Gi-Oh And like, the presentation of a card, like, when it shows up at auction, it just has a different feel versus when it's like a blurry story sale picture with like a scuffed Plastic case. You know, like, it just presents differently in the auction format. Like, sometimes I see cards on a story sale. I'm like, I know that card's sick, but it just looks. It doesn't look great in this picture. Is that what it's going to look like in hand? Like, I, like, I don't want this card. What's your. What's your thoughts on this ebay authentication? Individuals wanting to opt out of it because they want their cards instantly. I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but I like the buyer protection side way too much. I'd rather sacrifice the time of the card to get protected. As a buyer, I've gotten on two or three different occasions where I've got the message via email. It's like this card was not listed correctly, like, in terms of condition, like, with the picture of like a dent on the back. And most of the times they're like rare and scarce cards. And I'm like, you know, I'll say thanks. You know, I still want the card type of a thing, but I don't know, like, I value that a lot. I value, like, the infrastructure behind that. And I also understand, like, people just want to buy cards and get them instantly. But the protection to me is feel. It's. It's significant to me. And I feel like it doesn't get enough credit when there's a lot of negativity going to a program like that. I think it's good for Rock Arts. If a card's already graded, I'm fine with it. Like, I trust that it's what it is and it'll like, I guess in that case, the. It protects if, like, the case is messed up. But for the most part, it's like the grading company has, like, I trust that. Like, sure, if I'm buying a big card that's graded, I'm fine with it not going to authenticity. But if it's a raw card, yes, I like that because they do flag condition stuff that might not be in a listing or other things. So. Yu-Gi-Oh All right, Great questions, everybody. Thank you for those. To me, the story about this card is it is the highest sold PSA 7 ever. There was another one that sold in July. July 12, a PSA 7 sold for 12,100. And then later on in the month, the selling for 14k. The only one I have is Eric Kramer. And it's. That almost went to consignment because I was like, it just doesn't fit in. It stands out from my collection because everything else is so much more modern and shiny. But I Just Goldin let it go. I was like, I like having at least some type of PMG in the collection and.
