Com as well, you'll find clips of the podcast, plus some of the biggest hits and promotions for some of the big breaks we've got Coming up today, we've got Bowman Chrome on the mind. 2026 Bowman Chrome baseball is coming out. Plus we've been away for a while. Fanatics Fest National. A lot of stuff happened in the last month and we're finally back talking baseball. So we're going to talk about a few of the names that have defined the last month in baseball and going towards the home stretch of baseball. One guy, well, actually one product we were just ripping literally as we are about to start, I hear a one of one, Trey Savage just got pulled out of Tops Pristine in the room next to us. Tops Pristine Baseball is out. And shocker, the configuration this year isn't insane. Yu-Gi-Oh it's kind of weird, but that's normal. It's, it's abnormal for Pristine Baseball, I think. And I was, you know, we, we still have, you know, product to move through and stuff. But hot take, I was kind of, I was driving to work or I was driving home from work yesterday and I thought to myself, man, like this product doesn't really need to exist. Like they could really probably put, because I know some people love Pristine, I think they could probably put Pristine Chases in other products and maybe make some sort of like composite or something. But Yu-Gi-Oh that's kind of my hot take. And I think that quickly for a couple reasons. First reason is it's always been, until this year it's been that pack within a pack within a pack. The tri pack configuration, right? And inevitably the middle, the cards hanging out like in limbo in between and like in the middle of like the pack sandwich are like can be damaged and those can be autographed and often like are often time are paralleled and so like that just kind of sucks. And they're not cheap boxes. They never happen. And then so then they, they change the configuration. Well like I felt like the whole like one of the big draws to Pristine was like. Or what it was known for was the pack within a pack within a pack. So it's like all right, well you just changed that. So now we're just kind of like back to like hits within a pack. So now it's kind of like Tribute which just came out where every pack has something which I've always enjoyed Tribute more and I think it's always looked better. And then like they really bolstered Chrome black over the last couple years and have made that like multiple packs and the encased hit. So it's far better product. I just kind of feel like Pristine kind of lives in some like tops baseball high end purgatory between like a hit per pack kind of guarantee like Tribute. And then like once everything's ripped out and you kind of have your stack of like of your cards out of your box, like it's somewhere in between like a Tribute and maybe like a. I don't know man, like, like, like a, like a corner slice of transcendent before you have like encased hits but then you also have non encased hits and there's. I've always thought the. My biggest gripe with it too is with the 1Mags card per box and it's. It kind of felt like there was no rhyme or reason for what the mag card was. Like there would be boxes I would open where it was like, oh, we pulled A number to 5 Alex Rodriguez Auto out of the loose pack and the mag card was like a number to 199Bobby. Witty. Like non auto. It's like sometimes there were. Yu-Gi-Oh and like sometimes one of the mags could have been like non numbered but they were like an exclusive Pristine parallel. So I, I think like if you love Pristine like you love Pristine and like it's. It's very much what it is. Like the cards are very nice to look at. They're. This year is an incredible rookie rookie class. So the, the hits have been. Have been good. But Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh it's just, you know, it's all. It's on my lower tier of the high End especially as we have like Tribute that just came out and we have definitive and some other nice sets coming out. Museum coming out a little bit. It's like. And at that price point too. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It maybe if you get Pristine down to a lower price point where you still have, you know, I think then maybe my, my opinion of it does go up a little bit. I should say say all this. Friend of Mojo Break, friend of the podcast, Doug Plagan sent me this before the show. I'm gonna show it to Bubba right now. Maybe we can get it up on the screen. He just, he just finished his 2022 Pure Power Tops Pristine set. Take a look at that thing. I mean, the names on there are impressive. So there's stuff like that in Pristine and the Pristine. The one thing with Pristine is you are getting a lot of the best of the best. Jesse Winker. There's a Jesse. I said good for Jesse Wink. Or sneaking his way into his set. That includes Shohei Otani, Reggie Jackson and Mark McGuire. Not bad. Jorge Solaire in a Royals one-of-one is pretty. Jorge Solaire in a Royals one-of-one in there. It's a fun mix. There's like a Cecil Fielder in there. There's Edgar Martinez and then you've got like, obviously even the Soto. There's Otani, like there are the heavy hitters of today. That's way cool. Yu-Gi-Oh very cool set. So there is stuff like that. And on the secondary market, obviously these are not going to be at the level of, you know, all those products you just mentioned. Like, if there's Ohtani Autos, like I would imagine a Tribute or a museum going to outsell it over a. That, that Pristine right there. Yu-Gi-Oh And like, I'm. I'm happy. I didn't know you were going to bring up that photo, but I'm happy you did because it kind of brings me back to some of my favorite cards on my PC are Corey Seager plated and polished autographs from Pristine. They're beautiful. The parallels on them, it's like the entire card is that color. So they're. They're gorgeous. Yu-Gi-Oh it just from a investment. You guys will always hear me, you know, talk about the current investment, you know, the opportunity within the card. They seemed. Yu-Gi-Oh again, they kind of seem to live in that kind of like hobby purgatory. But hey, man, this. I mean, big names are big names no matter what. 2026 pristine, the rookie class is just stacked, dude. And I. You bring up price point, usually that's where I Go first too, when I, my, When I critique a product. But man, I don't know. I mean, they're at 800 bucks right now. Maybe at like 6.99 is more palatable. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a good product. It's a good product. It's just. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a good product. And there's less waste now. Now it's a. There's a little more, A little less packs with. There's no pack within the pack or the attached packs or whatever. Yu-Gi-Oh the cards are better protected. That's, that's good. It just. Yu-Gi-Oh the boxes are like small tops. Is really reducing, reducing their packaging on a lot of things. Their hobby. They're. Sorry. Their blaster boxes now are like reminiscent of the Panini cereal boxes, if you remember those. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh sure. They might still be a thing. The cereal box. Yu-Gi-Oh those. If, if you guys haven't had a, a blaster box in your hand in a while, go, go look for a new 2026, like series two or, or something. They're. They're a little slim, which is probably a good thing, but. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh So let's. Before we focus on some of the headline players of the last month, we have a new product to talk about, a big one that's going to be coming out fairly soon. We already have the checklist of 2026 Bowman Chrome baseball, which, if you've been collecting Bowman, you know, this is sort of the set where they are getting a mix of the biggest international names, plus some guys that maybe just missed out on some, on some of the most recent sets that maybe became breakout players in the last year. Bowman Chrome Baseball. Always. We've talked about it before. It's where you in a lot of ways kind of grew in stature, I think, and especially in like 2018 or, or, excuse me, would it be 2018 or 2017? But the years where it was like Tatis was In there, Vlad Jr. Was in there, Soda was in, where like, those became. It became a set where you're like, now it is a truly cannot miss set. Sixteen chrome. Sixteen. Thank you. Sixteen Chrome. With Vladdy. Yu-Gi-Oh And those other guys you mentioned. Yu-Gi-Oh And then 17. Well, I mean, this, these years get nuts because right in that, in that kind of like ballpark is then rookie years for Judge and Ohtani and, and Tatis, like in a row. 17, 18, 19. Those are crazy years of Bowman. Go, y', all go find a box of that. Yu-Gi-Oh I have one. One box of Bowman Chrome. 16 Chrome. Crazy Box. That's insane. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a crazy box. That's, that's nice. How about Bowman Chrome? Another product that changed has a new configuration. Used to be the two mega boxes or mini boxes. Right. So you had like the H. Yu-Gi-Oh Which I mean HTA is now basically Breaker like Breakers of Light is now the new version of HTA. But unlike in the past where it was like three autos and that's it, now it's what, two autos and you're getting SPS, you're getting exclusives. Yu-Gi-Oh You got like 12 cards. You get the exclusive GEOs. You're cutting back. You are cutting back on an auto. But I, but for my money I actually this is one where I will defend them and say this is a better configuration. I think it's because, because we ripped a lot of those HTA boxes and they, the results were tough a lot of times. Yu-Gi-Oh More often than not you can go pick up a 20, 21 HTA box for like 100 bucks, you know and you'd be sorry you did. I guess you could still pull supers and stuff of like trout. But Yu-Gi-Oh And like I would say indiscriminate of like any, any tops release Breakers Delight is pound for pound the best skew in terms of hitting what you're looking for because they always have the best, the best pack odds. It's always, it's a smaller case in terms of box quantity. So you're just kind of playing into those odds again. Your, your odds are always going to be better. And then the Geos are exclusive. It's a newer concept still the Geo. So we'll see how they play out like in five, ten years from now when there's just like it seems like there are as many Geos out there in the wild as there are trues. It's interesting Bowman Chrome like for me and I don't want to jump around too much. I don't know if you had more like intro for it. But I love Bowman Chrome because I love baseball. And let me walk you through this real quick. So as we all know, baseball is a majority the players at least roster size, majority international. And Bowman Chrome year over year is a highlight of the international prospects as opposed to like an American prospect that went through like the American college system or American high school system, yada yada. Right. First year player draft. So you have like Luis Hernandez top chase right now for the bad guys. And there are also very unique ways to go in and get. Also get the, the American guys too. Right. Which is my favorite. I'M gonna go out. Well actually I have to say second favorite because I actually have been on the record already saying that Helix is my favorite. Garbage Pail Kids are my second favorite. Tops Fanatics era short print. Nice. Okay. I don't think I knew this. Yu-Gi-Oh interesting. The Saucy Seeger is near and dear to my heart. Bowman Chrome. It's. It like is the perfect marriage like three way marriage of international prospect. Which again these are going to be the guys that we're watching on TV in a handful of years. Not that we're not seeing the American guys. We're seeing those guys and arguably we're seeing them faster than we see the international guys. But Yu-Gi-Oh that's true. Today's biggest stars, they're Bowman Chrome guys. Yes, you're right. There's going to be someone we talk about today who is maybe the. Is the MVP of if they gave out an MLB mvp is probably the MLB MVP Jordan Alvarez. That's a, that's a Bowman Chrome. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh you're right. And beyond that, it's your international superstars are the faces of the game. As you said. It's Shoney Otani's first card. Yohtani's. It's the Alvarezs, it's the Sotos. It's all these guys who. It's a, it's. We saw it with wbc. It's the most. It's a more global sport than ever before. Going back to the gpk, I'm looking at the checklist. Dude, it's so big. It's pause. Is this the most. Is this the most GPKs in one set? Yes. 50. Yu-Gi-Oh that's a lot of GPKs. Including. And this is going to be ready. It's going to be all over your social feeds. We're probably going to get a Sports center shout out to the great Kevin Ngandi at SportsCenter. Holding it down and doing tons of hobby love. Like he does a segment now at least once or twice a week about, about cards. They love it. Let's talk about the Aaron Judge Shohi Ohtani gpk. Yu-Gi-Oh that's going to be huge. That's insane. Dude. I love that that's happening. But then like the vet checklist, Goldin Kershaw is on there is really cool. There's a Will Clark, there's a Vlad Guerrero senior. Yu-Gi-Oh there's a, there's Shohei obviously and then Roger Clemens, Rod Carew, you've got Nolan Ryan, Mike Schmidt, Mike Piazza, Mark McGuire, Larry, Manny Ramirez. The list goes on of like Legendary names, not just the rookies and the first moments and the prospects for the first time as far as I can remember, like you say, Goldin Kershaw is one of the names on here. So it is easily the most robust of all of the GPKs. They could have some fun. I wish they could have a lot of fun because the fact that a rod and Roger Clemens and you know where I'm going with this are GPKs. Yu-Gi-Oh Big Mac. Yu-Gi-Oh big. I mean look, kind of writes itself. Can't do it. I get it. They're not going to do it. But one-of-one if they, if they wanted to go full like MAD magazine. Yu-Gi-Oh Sammy Syringe, you know, something like that. Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. Come on now look, these are free tops. These ones are free. If you want more, you got to come and find us. So as you mentioned though. Yes. Look, we one-of-one go. Dude, they're so good. It would be great. They're huge chases. They hold up to value wise. They hold up. They come paralleled. It's great. Surprisingly. And, and I don't see a lot of the big names out of the first bones out of this set. So that's, that's maybe. So that's maybe where the change comes is that they're going less on the names that are in here that are first Bowman. Maybe they didn't do that for the last Bowman Chrome either. I don't know. They're again they're all brand new. And we'll do probably more in depth discussion of the names to chase in this as we get go on because frankly these are a lot like we said it's international prospects. These are guys that are not on a lot that frankly if they're on your radar it means you're an Absolute baseball purist. You. It's in your blood and good for you. I know a few of these names. I'll have to do a little more research on a few of those names as well for the international guys because Yu-Gi-Oh these are guys that we are truly learning about a lot of them for the first time. Yu-Gi-Oh a lot of collectors are learning about them in the coming weeks and days as we get prepared for this release. This is often a set that around a release you can get in at a relatively low price. Right. It with it being Bowman, having the Bowman name and then see a lot of ROI as inevitably this release of Bowman of Bowman Chrome guys just kind of a handful of them find their. Find their way. I mean last year what Shata or Mori who I think we Made an argument is like one of, if not the biggest chase in the product. We got a few of his cards out there right now that are still very, very still selling for a good amount right now. And now I've had a chance to see him like actually in person a few times and they're throwing them all over the field. He's DH and he's pitching. He's playing second base, as they like to call him. He's a three way player. He's not a two way player. Can pause three way player. See, because he can play the field, he can hit and he can pitch, which they used to just call that a two way player. Nice. So Ohtani's just a two way player. Ohtani's now just a two way because he does the DH and the pitcher. patch auto Tani's like starting in right field like tomorrow. I know, right? Ohtani's catching. I remember, I remember when that was the argument of like Ohtani would probably play like right field if he, if he were to play, if he was in the National League, he would play in right field. And obviously not, not the case anymore. I'll. Let me just vouch for one guy who is going to be. I already know it. And this isn't not just local bias. This is not just because of the shirt I'm currently wearing. If you're watching this on YouTube, on Mojo Break Media, make sure to subscribe if you haven't. But Luis Hernandez is going to be the number one chase in this product. Almost certainly is going to be the Topps, for sure in this product. He is the San Francisco Giants 17 year old Zebra prospect. He, him, him and Joe Swar Gonzalez are the one and two guys in the organization. Joe Swar was the number one chase in last year's set. Luis is the number one chase in this year's set. We're getting, it's, it's crazy to say it. It kind of reminds me of when like every year was like, well, there's probably an Oriole. That's the number one chase at a Bowman, right? Like that's just the way it's going right now. That's what's happening with the Giants organization right now. It's exciting. He's seven, he's again 17 years old and he is currently playing professional baseball in San Jose. It's really, really exciting. You better hope things don't turn out like the Orioles. I know, Boy, that's, you know, you want to talk about a good segue right there of things that have happened since we have been away. A whole trade deadline happened. And you're right, they are sort of a. Like, things have not gone well in, in Baltimore, despite the fact Gunner Henderson wants out now. I don't know if you saw that Gunner wants out. There's already been some dis. Some rumors of would the Orioles entertain a deal to trade Jackson Holiday? Obviously the biggest piece, Adlie Rushman's gone. And gosh, that's. I remember when Adley first got called up and it all coincided too with like peak that, that first big peak of the hobby five years ago in 2021 when he gets called up and the prices of his first moments. I remember at the time even thinking like, this seems crazy. This seems like we are putting way too much on this guy right now, especially at the catcher position. He's been a good catcher. He's going to be a good catcher, I think in Boston. But he's not like his cards were going, you know, golds for 15k and stuff like that. Like, that's just not the player he ever was going to be. And it was. And he's not. And that's not a, that's not a knock on him. No, not at all. It's just tough. But Yu-Gi-Oh that's that. That Orioles team and all of the prospects we've been chasing for years and years and there's a, There's a decent shot in a year or two from now. A lot of those guys are gone. It's crazy. Yu-Gi-Oh I. We'll see. We'll see. I mean, they, they play in a tough division. It's hard to imagine them being buyers. Like, I don't know, just. It's, you know, they have to be like in first or second place in their division probably to be buyers at any given point. It's like, you know, are they going to be better than the Yankees, the Rays, the Red Sox, the Blue Jays, currently in last place in the division right now, two games out of a wild card spot. Again, that's weird. AL baseball this year, it continues to be weird, but they're only two games out of a wild card spot. But even if they make the wild card as a like team that's at or just under.500, it's not really inspiring a lot of confidence for like, what was two years ago, a 100 one-of-one Two, two or three years ago, whatever it was, 100 one-of-one team. An incredibly young and exciting core and obviously for collectors, so many guys that you could invest in where I always said, like, it's Kind of like they can all feed off each other and, like, find, like, the fourth guy on that team of, like, you know, like, oh, everybody's in on Gunner. Everybody's in on Adley. It was like, well, then get on only Goldin Cowser or something like that. Because, Yu-Gi-Oh the sky's the limit for this team, and the sky's the limit for all these guys, and that's not quite happening. And poor Pete Alonzo is stuck there and potentially another. They got. They got a lot of guys that look the same over there. Kobe Mayo, do. Dylan Beavers. They do. Pete Alonso, Gunner Jackson. I mean, Gunner Jackson. They got Adley out of there, but Adley was in that bunch. Yu-Gi-Oh Adley was. Ward. Taylor Ward. Yep. They had. Who'd they have last year? They had the guy that's got all the muscles. O'. Neal. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh Tyler o'. Neill. All the muscles. They all look the same. Guys yoked. Yu-Gi-Oh they do. They do. It's kind of like the angels, like, 10 years ago. Those Cole Calhoun. Oh, man, they all. They're all. They had a lot of cold. How. You're right. They got a lot of Cole Calhouns. They like guys like Cole Calhoun because they currently have Wade Meckler in their. Who's basically the Calhoun reborn. How many of y' all been meched out there? Oh, buddy, what I would give to be meched again here in San Francisco. Something is some of these. Sometimes people are. Yu-Gi-Oh Begging for a micking, you know. Right. I. Look, I'm asking for it more than I ever thought I would. Your current rookie leader in batting average. I have to. Let me double check that before I. I've already said it. I've already put it out in the world, but I am almost certain that is the case. The Mac Meister. Yes, indeed, the qualified rookie leader in batting average in Major League Baseball is Wade Meckler. 304 and 63 games fade Meckler. They. They found something. I. Again, another guy. I watched him on a rehab assignment in San Jose a year ago. He was there for two straight weeks. He did not get a single hit, the poor guy. I. He. I remember, I think he must have gone oh for 14 in the stretch. And that was one of the most violent reactions to a strikeout I've ever seen. Throwing the bat down and breaking it and like, it was. You felt for the guy because he had major league experience. And you're like, man, this just isn't what happened. Wade Wilson. Meckler. Wade Wilson. Oh, boy. You don't Talk about a throwback. Geez. Wade Wilson Meckler. one-of-one Wade Meckler cards if you're if you're thinking about it. I don't know if I would think about it. Just hop in a break. The return of the by the team and 26 year old rookie by the way from Anaheim. Well that explains everything. He's a legend. He's from Anaheim. Now it makes sense. Yu-Gi-Oh he's a good guy. He's probably got a great family. You know the mech and he's returned. Look, he if you know anything about getting meched then it sounds like if you held onto that those experiences then you're sitting pretty today. Are you sitting prettier than you were when you originally got meched? Never in a million years did I think we would spend this much time on this podcast discussing the merits of Wade Meckler. Yu-Gi-Oh Wade. By the way, his grand slam Superfractor tops now just sold for about 400 bucks so. Oh, good for him. Steel. Good for him as first is is a tops rookie inception recently for 300 bucks. Otto the first milestone with the with the San Francisco Giants. Nothing like it. Emblem. Dude, get on these. I would love that car actually. Check responses set up required compatibility and availability various 18 All right, Wade made Wade Meckler is not the reason it's not the big name to talk about here. In terms of rookies and prospects. I think the biggest one recently to talk about is a shocker. It's a Yankee shortstop. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh George Lombard Jr. Yep. The the next you're the next man up to replace Derek Jeter. It's been a long line of guys. It's been a. It's been a revolving door of guys. Anthony Volpe kind of felt like, okay, this is the guy, right? Everybody, the collectors, we were all in on him. His cards were going insane. It had it. It didn't happen, and it's not going to happen. 24 Bowman. Believe so. 24 Bowman. No earlier than that. 23 draft. Yu-Gi-Oh something like that. Off the top of my head. Sorry, everybody who's now currently screaming, this is my tick. For lack of a better term. Yes. What's. Or learning. Oh. Or knowing. No, I was going to say, Yu-Gi-Oh he's 20. Yu-Gi-Oh 20. 20. But everybody was chasing. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. What's that? Ricky? You're talking. Ricky. George Lombard. Oh, George Lombard. I think you're talking about Volpe. Oh, no, Volpe. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Lombard, you're right. Yu-Gi-Oh No Lombard, 24. But I'm gonna say no. Volpe was 20. Yu-Gi-Oh I want to say Lombard was freaking Volpe, bro. He changed his auto and he went downhill. Should. Should have done it. Yu-Gi-Oh 24 Bowman, by the way, is. Is George Lombard and still got it as of yesterday. This was a sale from yesterday. This is from 26 Bowman. It's a prospect. Superfractor Auto sold for $18,000. George Lombards Market is on fire. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, hey, you hit like two home runs in your first week as a Yankee shortstop. Yep. Why not? Seven games so far, 3. 20 batting average, 3. 93 on base. It's again, it's insanely early, but across three levels of minor league baseball this year, really two mostly double A and Yu-Gi-Oh A. 284 batting average of 4. 11 on base percentage, 12 home runs in 78 games. He's a guy that I. I have always been skeptical of going all in on Yankee shortstops for collecting purposes because I just think that they hold a premium that I don't. That. That I feel like is only because of this, the, of the city and the team and the position. Like, there's a pre. Like the. There's a premium on those guys that I don't always think deserves that. That said, I'm willing to eat, grow on this one if this thing works out. Because I was. I was like looking at Lombard, I'm like, I guess so. But it also kind of felt like, don't do, don't fool me again. Fool me once, channel on you. Fool me twice. I don't know. Yu-Gi-Oh well, it's like, define like work out right. Like right. Does that $18,000. Are you able to flip that for $25,000 or something like that? If he's got another week like he just had, then maybe. Yu-Gi-Oh maybe. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm not fully convinced. Give me more time. What would his, what would his like career have to look like in five years for that to be a $25,000 card or a card like and this is. And this is why I've always been skeptical is that it's an impossible standard to live up to. Like you have to literally be Derek Jeter and you never will be. Like even if you do find a way to be part of Yankee world champion teams. One, it's Aaron Judge's team. So you one-of-one get the credit unless I don't know. Yu-Gi-Oh George Lombard. Yu-Gi-Oh You're not getting credit again. I could be wrong. I could be wrong. But like if they go off at Judges not I know he's hurt but like if he gets healthy and the Yankees go on a run and they one-of-one the World series and Judge hits a few home runs on the way there, more than likely it's going to be the framing of it will be Aaron Judge has his world Series. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean this is. It's a handful of other players team before it's George Lombards. He in kind of the way that like baseball fans fall in love with the rookies on their team that perform. He has a unique opportunity in the second half of the year. It's like a heck of a time to debut and to be showing out like this. But he has this opportunity to have like a Schlitler esque September October. I mean Schlitler like people forget that Schlitler threw like 50 innings in the regular season last year. Right. People thought he debuted. I thought I was one of the guys that thought he debuted in October and I thought he even heard that too. But like George Lombard could like really put his name on the map if he has like a big October series. Absolutely. They have to get there first. I'm hoping they don't because boo Yankees. But Yu-Gi-Oh he's. He's sick and I think he has like good baseball lineage. I think his pops play there's grandpa is something like that. Like it was pretty good. I think he also has a brother that Jacob Lombard that is just made his debut the same day with the Marlins. Oh, in their minor league. No, in with them with the Marlins if I'm not mistaken. Oh, I believe they both made their major league debut on the same exact day. Sweet. Or. Yu-Gi-Oh it could be. I could be mistaken. I could have sworn that they was. I think they debuted. No, I'm sorry, you're right. It's not with the Marlins, but it was a minor league within their organization. Yu-Gi-Oh very cool. Still very cool. Yu-Gi-Oh So like, you know, I think again, like you have to Huge, huge shoes to fill and Volpe had moments of greatness. So it's too early. I think Volpe and like you don't have to check but like, I think Volpe had some crazy sales too. He. Oh, he definitely did. And the thing is too. And I remember after his first year where his stock had gone down a little bit. I think he's like debut patch sold for like 50 GS or something like that. Something crazy. But his stock went down considerably after the rookie year. And I remember being like, no, no, no. 22 years old and he hit 21 home runs and he had 24 stolen bases. He was 2020 that year. And it was like the first Yankee rookie or like one of the few rookies in Yankee history to do that. So it felt like there was a feeling of optimism. Even though he had. His batting average was 2.209that year. But like you, I mean through and through the Yankees have given them such a Runway, such a long Runway and so much leash. Like he just never improved on that. Like consistent. I mean every year he got worse. 243 or 657 ops. 886 ops plus, 82 ops plus, 83 ops plus in the successive years. The only thing that was really keeping him in the lineup was his defense. And then even that. Yu-Gi-Oh then he got exposed in the World Series. Right, right. So it got, Yu-Gi-Oh it, it came. It became a pretty clear, pretty clear that they had to make a move that. Yu-Gi-Oh I could still see Volpe maybe being a bounce back guy, but in terms of his market, again, so much of it is tied into the fact that he was the next Yankee shortstop. He's going to bounce back as a national when the Nats trade Abrams in the office. This is the. And again, why I say I'm kind of like, Yu-Gi-Oh y' all have fun with, with, with buying high on George Lombard because just too much pressure on that position in that city with that team that even if he's a good baseball player, I just feel like can never quite will never be able to live up to the expectations of everything that comes with what he's been, what he's got right now. Yu-Gi-Oh just wait till the off season. I mean, unless they one-of-one the World Series, his market will go down in the off season. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh And it's been a week. It's been one week of baseball. Watching him like, jury's still out. Numbers look good in the minors. Yu-Gi-Oh Were you buying? Were you spending 18 grand on Chase Delauder? Now I know there are different markets and different positions, but like that guy hit like 6 jacks in like 10 days, right? PSA 10 true gold first. Bowman just sold for 16.5k. I mean the list goes on and on. I mean the sales are hot right now. So. Look, I don't even need to give you this advice. You guys know it. If you've got lumbar in your collection, sell it now. I just don't see it going any bigger than this. We saw what happened with Volpe. It's happening again. Yu-Gi-Oh and there's a scarcity thing going on with his market too because he only has Bowman cards. So then he's going to have rookie cards and just. There will be less dollars contributed toward the Bowman market. Yu-Gi-Oh it'll be spread out a little more within the. Between the rookies and the Bowmans and all the prospects in between. So just, Yu-Gi-Oh sell and then if you want to own that card or similar cards in general in the future, then just buy it. Just, just wait, just be patient and just. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh be a good like, you know, like it's like day trade, day trade. George Lombard, you know, like there you go. And do that with like a lot of these guys that pop off and like a lot of you guys too. Like you're sitting on stuff. You don't even know what you're sitting on stuff. Guys that had a good week, player of the week, player of the months. Guys that are like breaking like inner franchise records, like rookie records or stuff like that. Like there's like, like people doing crazy stuff. If you have any like Jake McCarthy stuff hanging out, like, Yu-Gi-Oh go dig up your Jake McCarthy stuff. Like you have like you have no idea what you got, you know? Yu-Gi-Oh go have some fun this weekend. Maybe you'll have another inside the park home run to lead off a game. Who knows? Dude. Yu-Gi-Oh he's on my fantasy team. I love that guy. Might have a third. Speaking of a guy, he's on my fantasy team, this guy. But things have not gone that well for Paul Skeens in the last month since we last spoke. It's the first time in his major league career I have said those words. Things aren't going well. For Paul Skeens, I'm going to have to buy a jersey. Seems to get players on track. There you go. Got to get us. Okay. Bubba's getting a skiing jersey, so Pirates fans, don't worry. I bought a Kershaw jersey and he retired so. Well. There you go. That's safe though. At least then you know you're like, what's going to happen? Yu-Gi-Oh but no real talk. I mean, that's. We just saw the Velocity dip. We saw those metrics. That was yesterday at the time we're recording. I, I saw it on Instagram also. I was watching on, on SportsCenter when I first saw the, the reportings. But then I went on Instagram and it was posted everywhere. The comments, the top comments were like, oh, he's just like taking it easy. He's going like 90% because he's like the season's over and stuff. Which if you know anything about baseball, if you've ever thrown a baseball, you can't just, you can't. You just don't do that. You can't. No, not at that level. And I don't know, what do you think? You watch, you know, you're, you have eyes on this every day. You know, I mean, one, at some point, you pitch enough, you, you play long enough in the league where guys are going to figure you out a little bit, right? Like that just comes with the territory. Two, he has been one of the most. He's been incredibly durable throughout his career. It's just all of these things that you're like, it feels like he's been invincible. It feels like he's been one of the most, you know, this unstoppable story, once in a lifetime guy. But at some point, reality does set in of like, right. You pitch that much for that long, there's going to be some wear and tear. Probably two, you pitch this long in the league, guys are going to figure you, figure you out a little bit. Here's the run he's had in the last nine games, three and six. The team's three and six in those starts. Five, seven, nine ERA in those starts. 59 strikeouts still in 46 and 2/3 innings. So the strikeout stuff is still there. Some of the, like we said, the Velocity is down a little bit. I'm just looking too of like, is there something to say? Like, is he going against other opponents? Which frankly in this, in this stretch, he went five against Cincinnati division opponent, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Milwaukee, kind of a buzzsaw right there. Cleveland, tough team. Chicago, one of the best offensive teams in baseball. Cincinnati again, at Cincinnati. He had a really rough outing there. That's a tough ballpark sometimes at Milwaukee and then just recently in Miami where he actually went five and only gave up one. But that was one where his Velocity was down, so there's that, too. Little bit of a buzzsaw, I think, in the schedule of a lot of good teams at once, it's going to happen. Like, this is. I know that's not the scientific way of going about this, but, like, you watch enough baseball, you play baseball, and you just know guys are just going to go through cold streaks. It just is going to. I. I will remember it. When Tim Lincecum felt like he was otherworldly and amazing. 2010, August of 2010 was an awful month for him. It's weird that I can remember specifically that month, but, like, it was the first time where I was like, oh, right, he's human. Like, it's not just going to be playing on easy mode his entire way. Now. The question is, how does he bounce back from this? I think he bounces back well, because he's never been a guy who needs to overpower with his fastball, his. All of his other pitches. He's way craftier than I think people give him credit for. Like, he's more of a Maddox than I think people give him credit for, because the stuff. The power was so overwhelming initially that we think of it that way. But I think he's very. He's got tons of other tools to go with, so I think he bounces back from this. I think he figures out a way to adjust. Maybe it. Maybe it doesn't happen this year. Maybe by the end of the season, you go, well, he did. He survived, and his ERA is in the high threes and whatever, but I think, you know, he's going to cook something up in the lab this off season, let's put it that way, and I think you'll be all right. Yu-Gi-Oh he's. He seems too good to just fizzle because, I mean, the trajectory. So, like, right now, the current trajectory is downward. But, like, I think to your earlier point, like, this could just be the first evidence of, like, a little bit of mileage on the arm. Yu-Gi-Oh I am no doctor, and I do. I have no desire to be and have no, no nothing of what it takes to be. However, I. I pitched and. And I pitched, and I just. I. I have an elbow and a shoulder, and they're. They're. They're pretty much junk, Worthless, useless right now. I Have a feeling. This whole loose bodies procedure, this, this ultra microscopic laser thing that's just going. I'm not diagnosing Paul skin. I'm just speaking generally that I think we're going to see this happen a lot in this off season, especially now that the recovery time has been kind of tested out and guys like Skubal and I think guys are going to be more. More willing to elect for that procedure. And I think a lot of guys are that were not. And again, this is. This is pure speculation. So this is. This is not why you come to this podcast. Or maybe it is, but I just kind of have the feeling it's from, like a personal feeling. Like, I never wanted to go to my trainer when I was dealing with something because I didn't want to. I didn't want her to tell me what I kind of already knew. Yu-Gi-Oh Because that meant that she was obligated because it was a high school. She was, like, obligated to tell my manager. And then it just happened. So that my manager was the athletic director. So, like, you would not be able to play if you were dealing with, like, a serious injury that she was able to, like, go on and diagnose. And like, you know, you're like 16, 17, 18 years old. It's like, you know, just, you throw through it. So that kind of same notion of, like, maybe there are guys that are. Maybe there are guys out there across all positions, but maybe pitchers especially that are just not getting the imaging done, that are not. They're like, I'll. I'll do it at the end of the year. And potentially there have been some of those, like, internal conversations or conversations with their agent or with team doctors that have stacked up. And this could be the case throughout high school, throughout college and into the pros, where you have just like, buildup and taxation on the arm. And perhaps now with new technology and new procedures out there, guys will be more willing to not only just get the surgery, but at least have things taken a look at. And potentially, and this is again, not a doctor, but potentially just my feeling is that the more imaging and the more scoping and successful procedures, that we might even find the next awesome, innovative, even more efficient thing. The next sort of Tommy John revelation. Yu-Gi-Oh Of. Of how to extend a pitcher's career. Like when Tommy John surgery came out or like, was. Was. Was revolutionized, and if everyone got Tommy John surgery, they probably would have found a better way to do it quicker. Yu-Gi-Oh And I don't know. And just the advancement of things and science. I think that's a. I think you're right on it. And I think the skin. You mentioned it with school, that kind of, like, proved, like, it's a quick bounce back, and I don't want there to be a lockout. Things aren't trending great. Maybe true with the looming lockout, a guy like, some of these guys are like, well, let's just kind of see what's going on there. Because I may not be pitching come April, so I might have some time to recover here. Anyone that's on the fence was already on the fence of getting something done. They're probably. Probably now gonna get it done. Yu-Gi-Oh Just because of it, you have at least an extra week. Yu-Gi-Oh Right. Exactly. Minimum, at least an extra week. So I didn't want to cut off your point. I totally agree. I totally agree. So that said, all of this said, when we go back to his cards, I did take a look, and, Yu-Gi-Oh for the record, I think he's fine. I think he's totally fine. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, I. Yu-Gi-Oh again, I just. These things happen. Guys get, you know, the durability he's. Last year, he made 32 starts. The year before, in his rookie year, he gets called up early, if we recall, like, he got called up, what, end of April, beginning of May, he made 23 starts. This year, he leads the league in starts, and he's up there in innings pitched at 134.2. And like last year, he pitched nearly 200 innings. So that's a lot for a very young starter, especially coming off of being the horse for LSU and throwing 150 pitches in a game. Like, this guy's been pitching a lot of baseball over the last few years, so it just makes sense. His cards. PSA 10 first Bowman Chrome. It's at its lowest since preseason. That's still a $1,700 card. PSA 10 first Bowman Chrome. That's the last recorded sale as of this recording. It's a 31% dip according to card ladder in the last month. So this is the first dip of Paul Skin's career. I don't know if that's, like, time to buy, but if. Let's. Let's put this way. If you're like, I don't have a Paul Skins in my collection because I've been waiting it out to be like, I want the price to feel a little more reasonable. This off season might be a great buying opportunity for Paul Skins. Yu-Gi-Oh You could probably find, like, a pristine rookie auto with, like, a little Patch in it for probably just a few hundred dollars. Yu-Gi-Oh Again, this also brings up the, like, the risk proposition of investing in pitchers. And I've been the guy who's been trumpeting pitchers, pitchers, pitchers, they're underrated. And it has finally happened. And oh, Paul Skeens is having a cold streak. Yu-Gi-Oh To be clear, Cody's not saying Paul Skeens is doomed. He's just saying you shouldn't have bought it. When he was the tippy top, that was tough because he was always there. Well, he was. He's always at this premium level. He was like, like selling his market was like more. I don't, for lack of a better term, I don't know what the term is, but like active than Otani. Yu-Gi-Oh it was. It's crazy like that there was a moment market was. Yu-Gi-Oh I think at the beginning of the season, if you made the argument that next to Ohtani, Skeens is the second guy in terms of like, you know, market, and it has like the second most active market of any player in major league baseball. That debut patch auto chase was everything. Right. Right. So, Yu-Gi-Oh the fact that the guy at the tip top of that is now dealing with this. But again, we don't. There's no injury history. It's just, he's just going through a. He's going through a cold streak. Like it is what it is and maybe there will be something. Maybe we'll find out, but I don't know. We'll find out. Yu-Gi-Oh And Yu-Gi-Oh I wouldn't say his prices have bottomed out. They'll continue. They definitely have it. Yu-Gi-Oh And if he's, if he's, if he's dealing with anything physical, it's not like his next start, he's just going to throw no hitter and like prove us all wrong. He'll probably continue to, you know, have to battle and through this, like, physical challenge if it is something. In fact, his PSA nines are up right now. There you go. From, from a month ago. That warms my heart just on so many different levels. People aren't scared yet because also, again, I think a big, a big factor too is the strikeout stuff still there. And I think people are in the know enough that they know, like, this is a guy who the best pitchers adjust. The best pitchers are look different. They, they go in phases. Justin Verlander, I feel like, is one of the best examples. Yu-Gi-Oh Another guy. Yu-Gi-Oh Who continually evolved. Like I remember Verlander those first four years was like, man, look at this young stud and then like he had that real bad year. We had like an ERA of like five went up. That's it. And then he adjusted. He changed, went to Houston. Right. And then you had that later in his career. Like, I feel like he said like three phases of his career where like he hit a bump in the road. Houston. Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. These guys, they, they evolved. I hated those Astros teams so much. Yu-Gi-Oh we don't need to. So did a lot of people. Hated this Astro. Yu-Gi-Oh Goldin Kershaw used to throw 97 miles per hour when he was 22 years old. And then he was throwing 88. Right. And one-of-one two World Series. Like it's the last couple of years of Kershaw where his fastball was going up there at. Yu-Gi-Oh like 85 to 88. Yu-Gi-Oh He developed a slider and he still was able to get Kai swinging and missing. Like. Yu-Gi-Oh that's what the best guys do. And I think Verlander, Kersh Scherzer to a degree. Yu-Gi-Oh Freaking Jacob deGrom, dude. Yu-Gi-Oh Has not only had to like battle against just like the, like the body wearing and tearing, but just like bad injury too. Like, I mean that's. These are professionals, dude. Like, these are guys that are masters at their craft that make sign $100 million multi $100 million deals because they do something so perfect one way and then they have to make an adjustment and do it sometimes completely different and they still find a way to compete at the highest level, sometimes even better. It's like, dude, I just, I don't know. I love pitchers. Admire it. Yu-Gi-Oh it's always. Yu-Gi-Oh it's an incredible. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's the constant tinkering, the constant like going back and Yu-Gi-Oh I like, I agree. I wholeheartedly agree. I just always think when a pitcher can take. I've said it multiple times, it's maybe my go to line here now on this. But like a pitcher has the capability of taking over a season more than any other type of player in any position in baseball. You know, exhibit A, what Jacob Mizaroski is currently doing in Milwaukee right now. Real quick, I know we've got a lot talking about Paul Skeens and for good reason. He's a huge name in this hobby. But I just got to give, just got to shout out Jordan Alvarez because what he's doing right now is wild. We are sitting here and it's August 13th as we record this. He is your major league. Tied it for the major league lead in home runs. Four way tie. Currently he is just behind about four RBIs. Back of the major league lead in RBIs, but does lead in the American League and is your major league leader in batting average right now. If he were to do all three of those in the major leagues, he would be the first outright Triple crown winner in Major League baseball since Mickey Mantle. Jordan Alvarez. What a dude. What a hitter. Um, probably you're. He's. He's going to one-of-one the mvp, which would make him. Other than Shohei, like, and that's such a different case. We were looking this up, like, who is the last full time DH to one-of-one mvp? We're like, well, technically Shohei, but it's not really the same. And I think everybody can agree on that. Like if he's pitching in any. Well, although during his 50, 50 season, that was full time DH. Yu-Gi-Oh but it was an except. But because something exceptional happened. He went 50, 50. So basically it's like to one-of-one triple. To one-of-one the MVP as a DH, you had to have to hit 50 home runs against 50 sold bases or one-of-one the Triple Crown. Yu-Gi-Oh Incredible. Yu-Gi-Oh He's having a hell of a year. And right now, I'll just ask this to everybody. Buy and sell and are holding his first Bowman PSA 10 auto from 2018. Bowman Chrome is $1100. That was the last sale. A first Bowman base PSA 10. Jordan Alvarez. I mean $1100. Paul Skeens was 1700. Paul Skeens with everything we just talked about. Yu-Gi-Oh The Fleer is 17. And Jordan, highest peak of his career. Is it 11? Yu-Gi-Oh This is. I mean, this is the peak by a lot. You could have bought this card in March for 300 bucks. Doesn't help our case for selling Bowman Chrome, does it? No. Look, I don't know if that's what your prospects will do in 10 years when they one-of-one an MVP. That's true. And you know, bounce around from one. Although that's in an Astros uniform. They'll pay for your box. Yu-Gi-Oh I always thought he was criminally underrated in terms of card value. Part of that is just because he's a dh. But I think that you're. You're seeing it now like what he's capable of doing when he's fully healthy. That is as good. Unfortunately for him, this is probably as good as his market is ever going to get. Because G, D H is. Unless you're showy. Ohtani just don't sell for the amount that. Yu-Gi-Oh they. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm just trying to think about their farm system and their Their young core, I don't really have them over the next like five to seven years. Kind of feels like a last hurrah are getting there. So Yu-Gi-Oh look, I think he's the best hitter in baseball and if for, for an MVP award I, I as a, if I were a voter, I'm not. If I were a voter, I'd rather give it to a guy that plays every day than someone that pitches every fifth day or sixth day. So if you're the best hitter and I want to give it to a hitter, I think you were down to slam dunk. Like more so than the than Shohei will be when he wins his next mvp. Pca, the new betting favorite. Saw that. That is crazy. Vegas just wants money that's fair. This is a sick game that they play. Watch Shohei go bet on pca because Shohei would not be doing himself any favors if he give it away. Right after that news he decides I'm pitching again. Like oh because so Vegas said you're not going to one-of-one Yu-Gi-Oh And then you start pitching again. Yu-Gi-Oh He also hit a game winning home run yesterday, Oppo. Yes, he did. It was impressive. He's an impressive player I think. Yu-Gi-Oh he'll continue to be impressive. Look, he's the most valuable player in baseball. Yes. Because he's the best player in baseball. PCA is having an incredible year and for those that worry, that care about accolades, a lot of us in the hobby do because it impacts prices. I'm sorry that Shohei Ohtani exists. It's a tough time to be collecting National League vets right now. Yu-Gi-Oh it's Yordon number one in ops and there's number two, Shohei Ohtani. He's right there. If he wins it again, it's. It's going to be the closest race to have closest race ever since he's been doing this. It's not going to be unanimous this year. But Yu-Gi-Oh right now it's, it's neck and neck. It really depends on like our voters gonna have the voter fatigue and are you going to value the defense of what Pete Crow Armstrong does day in and day out over right now what's happening with show aids like still show a. Still pitched 80 some odd innings to you know. So Yu-Gi-Oh I think. Yu-Gi-Oh for Yardon go ahead and sell Yordon right now. Good on you. You hung on to him. If you were a big believer and thought he was underrated and thought there was waiting for that moment because I have been kind of waiting for the Yordon season for a While. When would that moment would have been. Would have been 19 after the World. Or 20. Sorry, 21 after the World Series, probably 22. Yu-Gi-Oh When he had the. Yu-Gi-Oh Series MVP in 21. No, that would have been. Or 22, you mean. No, that was. Jeremy, 22 was the guy. It was the only rookie position player to one-of-one I'm looking right now, and Yu-Gi-Oh this is. Again, this is the new high. Who one-of-one in 21? That was the Braves over the Astros. The Braves. Yu-Gi-Oh Before this. There you go. March of 2023, $1,000. April of 2021. Man, screw the Braves. So, Yu-Gi-Oh it's 2021. So there you go. It's about 100 bucks more than the previous high, which was just after he had one-of-one a World Series. And there was a lot of momentum of, like, he might be the MVP favorite in the American League, you know, all that good stuff. Or. Or like he's the next guy next to Shohei to be the potential MVP of the league. So. But Yu-Gi-Oh I don't blame you if you're. If you're. If you're. If you're selling now he's a dh. I get it. Yu-Gi-Oh If you held onto him. Awesome. Good for you. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh 2020 rookies. 2020 rookies. Yes. 2020 rookie. And boy, oh, you could probably get some affordable boxes. Definitely that helps that product out a lot because there are some good names in there. Bichette still in there, but he's. He's now probably near the top. Lou Bob. Lou Bob was the guy in that. Kirilov, I think maybe 2020. You're right. Gavin Lux. Yu-Gi-Oh that's it. I had a lot of Gavin Lux. Not great. Shout out to Gavin Lux. Hope he's doing all right. And Dustin May, I think, who's now pitching for the brewers, Logan Webb, 2020 rookie, two gingers. We had a lot of Logan web. We pulled so many Logan Webb bottles around here during 2020. There was always. There's always a guy. And now I think that's kind of done now. Or you correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember there would always be the one or two guys of like, guaranteed an auto of them in a case, like, just guaranteed. Oh, Ken Waldichuk. Yep. I mean, that was a rookie. It wasn't a first Bowman, but. Oh, that's what we're talking about. Rookies. Yu-Gi-Oh Ken Waldchuk is a famous one. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I definitely recall that. How about that comment below? Who's, like, who do you remember being like the notorious infamous. I should say infamous like auto hit the rookie auto that haunts you. Yu-Gi-Oh Out of like Tops. Tops products. Yu-Gi-Oh There was another one. Who was it? I know, I know. He's gonna bit get brought up so I have to look him up now. He was on the Marlins. Oh, is it like Jordan Yamamoto? Yes, Jordan Yamamoto. The OG Yama. That was a lot. There was a lot of Jordan Yamamoto autos too. Yama O19 from 2019. So that's one that. That definitely and he had promise like there were. There was like a. A multi month period where people were like sweet Jordan down. I one-of-one lit. Not a bad box. All right. Oh, how times change. And with that we'll wrap things up. Thanks again guys. We're happy to be back talking baseball. It's good to do this and thanks for hanging out with us, Joe. Down the stretch we come. Here we go. We got about what, six weeks left in the regular season and then playoffs begin. Yu-Gi-Oh not bad. So we got a lot of products to talk about. Obviously we talked about it. Bowman Chrome of other fun stuff coming up and you can rip it all bore.com Fanatics live. Make sure to go there. There's more Tops Pristine coming up. If you're listening to this on release day.
