Steve Aoki didn’t discover Khamzat Chimaev by watching one of his fights first. He says he discovered him through trading cards. 😳 Around 2021, Aoki started collecting Khamzat and quickly went deep into the chase—tracking down different parallels, building rainbows across products like Select and Prizm, and adding extremely scarce 1/1s to his collection. But something interesting happened along the way. Collecting the cards made Aoki curious about the athlete pictured on them. He started learning more about Khamzat, following his career and eventually becoming a genuine fan of his fighting style. It’s a perfect example of how the hobby can work in reverse: Sometimes you don’t collect the card because you’re a fan.
