My 1941 Play Ball Charley Gehringer came back a PSA 2 — I fully expected a 1 or even an Authentic. And my 1952 Bowman Pee Wee Reese? A PSA 1... which felt really harsh given the eye appeal on that card. Here's the truth about grading vintage: even when a card looks great — centered, clean, strong eye appeal — you can still walk away with a 4 or 5.
