We have been chatting before recording here about Trent's amazing pick of Tyler Schuck for the SCN Challenge. Trent, you just want to mention one of my picks. Oh, Alex, I tell you what, man. I've always said this, but it's lonely at the top. Are you even at. You're not even at the top? Oh, I can't talk because I'm not at the Topps, that's what you think. That's what you think. I strategically didn't have Brendan mention again that with the new updates, I am at the top. Alex. Mr. I know Ball. Mr. Trent doesn't know nothing about football. Hey, you made some good picks. So here's. Here's the thing that I would love to talk about. So for those of you who don't know the SCN Challenge, Alex, myself and a few other folks around the Sports Card Nonsense media network, we all Beckett five football cards that we're tracking throughout the duration of the season. And whoever, whichever cards have the most increase in card ladder value percentage wise, one-of-one the challenge. So it's just a fun game and everything, but the. The Finest part to me is the recap of the Week 2 standings. First place, Doug Plagans, who is a hockey guy. He. Dude. Yu-Gi-Oh Second place, Brendan Darr awesome dude, soccer guy and me football. To be fair. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm just gonna, just gonna ignore that. That was. No, that was good. And then me, who collects baseball. Like, I own three football cards. I own a Jackson Dart rookie Refractor, a Drake May auto and a Drake May red to five. Those are the three football cards I own. Here's my question. Where is Jesse, AKA Sportsboy, in these new updated rankings? It's not looking good. It's not looking good for the sports boy. I will say this. There's a new person in last place who is not you. I was. I was in last place. Although we were talking about this before the episode. I have a Justin Herbert card that I am trying to swap because the Chargers are dog water. He is trying to dump this. I'm trying to dump it because I think the Chargers are going to start. Oh and nine their next seven games. Have you seen their schedule? Yes, it's. I literally like, I have the Chargers defense in one of my fantasy football leagues and I Tribute them so quickly. I need to drop them because they're like their schedule coming up is absolutely horrendous. I think there's a very real chance that they start the season 019. They've got Buffalo at Buffalo at Seattle, Denver at Kansas City at la, Houston at Baltimore. That's seven very losable games, especially with how they're playing. So no go. We can say no. It's just, it shows like the SCN challenge is the epitome of the sport, of the football card market. It, it is a beast, dude. It is like. I mean, all it takes is one good or poor performance and these cards will either go up 30% or down 30%. Like it's a volatile market, but it's fun. It, it, it is. It's fun. What I like about the challenge is, is that it's given that it's all conceptual. You can just make a move whether or not a card is on the market, whether or not, you know, you can sell your card easily or buy a new card, etc, where. And we're gonna have some conversations on this today, whether or not I'm legally allowed to make this move. How, how making moves work. You have to take the value of your card that you are looking to trade or get rid of and within 10. So up or down, you can swap that for another card. So if you have a 300 card, you could swap it for a 270 card. Up to a 330 car, you have some wiggle room because it's not about the dollar value. When all is said and done, it's about your percent change. My challenge that I'm having is I based on, you know, we're working through some bugs in terms of card ladder data getting communicated to the SCN Challenge website, which is literally scnchallenge.com if you guys are at home. Want to track along based on that. My Justin Herbert card was down a little bit and so I was like, I found a really solid swap for a Tyler Shuck card that I'm going to try and still swap for. The challenge is the card ladder value right now is actually a lot higher. Card ladder puts the just. It's a Justin Herbert optic blue scope PSA 10. There were some sales. There was one sale at 285, and that bumped the market up to 285. My challenge and push. And it's funny because on one hand this is helpful because it makes my portfolio look a lot better to say that this card that I was in for 200 bucks is up to 285. However, I then can't swap it for the card that I want to swap it for. I think I found a really good kind of diamond in the rough, something that has not seen. You texted it to me yesterday and I was like, man, that's. That's actually pretty solid. I think it's a really good find, you know, and I. Which is why I want to be able to swap for it. But the problem is, is that my other cards aren't within a 10 range of that. So I can't just say, oh, I'm gonna dump the Bonix xrc. I guess technically, if I wanted to burn two moves, I could trade a Jared Goff, which is worth 160, for something that's worth the, like up to 180. And then I could trade that 180 to get up there like you could. I guess that I could burn two moves if I really needed to. I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but we only get five moves throughout the entire season. So that regular season, you. You get five moves in the playoffs as well. Right. Which is what makes things very difficult for Alex. For those listening like, it when you have to be strategic over all these weeks of football and you only have five roster swaps, you can pretty much make. It makes it hard because I'm, you know, deep down I'm like, like, man, I wonder what would happen, like, if you decided to pick up, I don't know, let's say James Winston or you Know, just somebody who, like a backup somewhere who might get called up, and then you just see 100% ride or something like that. It's interesting. It is. But so I need, like, I'm debating truly. I think this Tyler Shuck card is maybe worth two moves. We'll see whether or not I end up having to do that. In terms of making that happen, I think the Herbert is more realistically in that 200 to 220 range. One sold last night for $200, and there's multiple listed at $220. So, like, I. I am going to argue today that I am well within my rights to make this move. And even though it actually hurts my overall portfolio value, because I think that it will raise my portfolio value. We'll update you guys next week on whether or not that is going to happen or not. I do also think something that, to your point of Jameis Winston, the New York Football Giants only have Jameis Winston on their roster right now as a quarterback. I've debated the thought went through my mind. And this is where only having five moves make it really tough. I debated, do you go and you try and pick up somebody that might get traded for or that might. That might be a free agent? You know, my mind went to Mr. Unlimited, Russell Wilson. Stop it. He's formerly former New York Giant. No, please, please don't do this. I'm not gonna do it. But the thought crossed my mind of, like, I kind of want, like, but, like, they're not going to stick with just Jamis on that roster for the rest of the season. They're not going to be playing the Rams every week. So I'm not necessarily expecting Jameis to look as bad as he did last week, but he looked bad on Monday night. He. He did look pretty rough. He looked rough. And if he plays that way rest of season, he will not be playing the rest of the season. So if they're gonna go get somebody else, whether it be a practice squad guy, you know, do they go Desmond Ritter? But, like, you could probably go get a Desmond Ritter Downtown. PSA 10. Yu-Gi-Oh For probably 200 and probably, like, upper 200s, I would guess. Yu-Gi-Oh Which if they were to do that and he comes in and plays, that's going to jump up at least 25% just because all of a sudden he's actually playing like, like they're each. I think. I think it would go up 25% if it was just announced that he signed with the Giants. Yu-Gi-Oh You know, so that. But that's what Makes this challenge, like so fun because you're like, like, do I take the gamble? Do I take the safer route? Only five moves makes it tough. So I'm, I'm hoping that I can make this move. I. For the record, if I have to burn two moves to get this card, I think I'm going to do it. Crazy, man. We'll see. I. I think it's worth it, but we'll see where I'm gonna have some conversations today. Yu-Gi-Oh So the SCN challenge, been fun. I'd love to see baseball would be tough just because of how long the season is, but at the same time, I would love to see it for baseball. You know, I do it for all those sports. It's not that, it's not like it requires that much, you know, especially with not a ton of moves. It doesn't require a ton of like, management, which I think is nice for a lot of the guys. So, Yu-Gi-Oh it's just fun. Speaking of baseball, I got an interesting email about a week and a half ago that I wanted to talk about because I didn't bring it up last week because at the time I thought I got a spam email. So I put it in our chat, but it's an email from CS Returns. And I'm like, CS Returns? Like, what, what is that? And it's, it just says, we received your return ticket ID number. Is this address up to file on the case? Panini, Right. Yes. But I, I have had two redemptions with Panini. The first one I put in in 2022 and the next one I put in in 2023. So for me, like at the time, I'm like, you know what? I'm giving up on Panini redemptions personally because, like, I'm never going to see these cards. Yu-Gi-Oh But I got that notification, that email and I didn't recognize it at first, but then I clicked on the email and it said, app Panini America, whatever. And I was like, oh, it's Panini. I went into my Panini account and I saw my two autos. Francisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos. Yes, yes, I know, goats. Goats. But no, like Mark Vientos at the time, when I put it in was probably like a $50 card. Now it's probably like a four, five dollar card. Yep. But here's what the replacement is now. It wasn't a. It wasn't a. Hey, would you like to replacement. Replace this? It was, here's your replacement 2018 Donruss Rated Rookie pack. Interesting. Shohei Ohtani Autos are live in those still. They are stickers, but they are still live in those packs. Acuna Ohtani, like just. You gonna rip it? Absolutely. Dude. If I turn a Mark Vientos, what year is it? A 2022 Panini Chronicles Mark Vientos unnumbered auto into a Shohei Ohtani Rated Rookie auto. I'm never gonna shut up about it. No. As you shouldn't. That's crazy. Even just, even just an Otani would be Zebra cool to be like, oh, this Ohtani rookie card I pulled. Now, speaking of customer service shipping, have you bought anything from Fanatics collect recently? I did. I actually bought like a lot of the Soto. I remember you told have you requested a withdrawal yet? I actually did on this. Well actually no, because what I did was I just have it shipped direct to me. Okay. Has it shipped the Soto? Yes, the Soto's on my shelf. But the order that I just made this past Sunday, I'm not sure. I know it usually takes like a within a week. Usually I get notified. They generally have been the past few months they have been much faster. I know that we had issues in the past. I'm having an issue right now in that we as we've talked about, you could see my background. I am packing up. We are Moving I on September 7th and to be fair, I bought cards for a good month and did not withdraw anything because we were on vacation up in upstate New York. Have 80 cards in this order that I'm withdrawing. I requested on September 7th thinking, oh, I'm fine even. You know, they've generally been shipping my 15 to 20 card orders in like two or three days. So like it'll take them a little longer. It's been over two weeks and it has not shipped or even is not like ready to ship. So I had to reach out to their customer service and say, hey, can you change the shipping address? Because there's a very high likelihood that I'm not going to be living at this house anymore. When you ship these cards here and there's a lot of cards there, like probably close to $10,000 in cards that would not be a fun package to go hunt down to. Have to get on a flight to come hunt down. No, thank you so much. Just was curious last night on stream it sounded like some guys were also having some issues. So just be conscious that if you're buying something there. We've given really, really good reviews recently and it sounds like trends may be getting the VIP treatment, but they're like, oh, you're number one in the SCN challenge. Here you go. You get, you get preferential treatment. Yu-Gi-Oh no, I do want to bring something up real quick. I did not put this on our list. But you brought it up real quick. The your stream last night. So most of the time I'm breaking whenever you run your Whatnot streams but last night I wasn't and I jumped in your stream and bought a fake one on one. Yes, I bought a fake one of one. I'll whatever. Sure. It's a printing plate, so shut up. No, dude, that just goes to show that like you never know what's going to pop up. I had no intentions of buying anything last night because I just wanted to come in support you hang out with the chat and everything. But dude, like I said, my buddy shout out to Mully. He has the Austin TR Rainbow. He has the non auto Zebra He has the, the Zebra auto. He has all this stuff and just a random stream. You pull up one of his printing plates, his first Bowman printing plates. You never know what you're going to find. And dude, I'm telling you I was more excited for that $16 purchase than I was. Than I was even for that Juan soto rookie to 250. For the record, it was $11 plus shipping. Yes, that is, that is fees included. Everything. $11. I was. And that, that's where I said chat proof that It's a fake 101. Because a real 101 would not have sold for $11. No, but I mean there are deals to be found anywhere. That's awesome. And just the fact that like this just goes to show that hey like there's more to sports cards than just flip, repeat. Like no, I'm sending this card to my buddy because it means, it means way more than $11 to him. And it like dude, that was just awesome last night. I was so excited. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I mean it's, it's. There have been. I don't know anything about Austin Trot right now. How good of a prospect. He's not. He's not. That's why it went for $11. Yu-Gi-Oh I have a true gold auto of his that I'm pretty sure I bought for like 15. Okay. So there are so many cards in this 100,000 card lot that I'm slowly but surely working my way through and just like my goal is to just get as many of them gone as possible before we move. So I've just been doing Streams Thursday again, 6:30 Central on eBay. I'm just going to Be running random stuff all night long. It is. There are that Austin Troster may have been accurately priced at 11. There are so many cards because I'm just throwing random stuff at the wall. Last, last week I did the all auto stream and there were definitely guys getting stuff at 50 comp constantly. And you know what, whatever. Like I, I bought all of these cards for way less technically than what I've paid for on anything here. I've made back roughly $4,000 of the $27,000 that I've spent so slowly but surely working our way, working our way back from it. We'll get there. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean even me, like I've got a bunch of stuff and by the way, my Haystack one finally came in. Dude, I am so pumped. I listed a bunch of cards, right. I listed over 250 cards which, like here, here's, here's the whole concept. You get 250 free listings every month on ebay. I was in the zone and going so quickly listing through like just taking photos of all my stuff with the Haystack one that I broke that. So I have listing fees on some stuff and I'm like, well shoot, like I didn't need to do that. But it was just so easy going through everything that I didn't even realize it. So Yu-Gi-Oh I've got 250 auctions ending this weekend. Like I'd say like 60 to 70% numbered cards, like 10 to 15 autos. Like it's just a ton of stuff that I've just like, you know, everything from like $1 stuff to like $20 stuff for the most part. And then a couple of like higher end cards just to kind of like my thought process is like these are things that I've, I bought at a great time. So I'm going to make a good margin on it. So I'm going to use these as like a, like a ebay fee buffer for whenever I get fees. Like it'll soften it a little bit. So. But Yu-Gi-Oh that you're able to. It's, it's the, I'll call it the big consigner. For me it's DC Sports who I buy from a lot. It's the DC Sports. If you have a lot of auctions up, if you have a higher end card that somebody buys that's nicer, there's a decent likelihood because they're already going to be getting a package from you that they might bid on your other stuff too because they say oh well I already I've already paid the six bucks for shipping. Trent can toss in some extra cards and I'm not going to get charged a ton extra. Maybe I'll be able to get a deal because somebody else is bidding on this four or five dollar card, looking at it and saying, well, I'm gonna have to pay five bucks in shipping. What, you know, is it really worth bidding on? Right. Or I can bid and I don't have to pay for the shipping. So I think that makes it so much easier. It does. Now, speaking of DC Sports. Yu-Gi-Oh Oh Yu-Gi-Oh speaking of DC Sports, have you seen the whole fraudulent cards that got submitted thing? Yu-Gi-Oh Very, very briefly. I know we were talking about it before, I'm not Zebra familiar with it, but. But fill me in, please. So I'm. First thing I'm going to say is I am also not. I've. Trent and I were talking before the show. Trent, for the record, is carrying a lot of the show right now. Behind the scenes chat and the ASEAN Challenge chat listeners, what? Like my third time dropping that, by the way, because with us moving, my life is very hectic, chaotic. I have not been putting out content as frequently or as, you know, consistently as I would like to. So I'm paying attention a little bit in terms of hobby stuff, but I'm definitely not as. Not as tapped in as I normally am. One thing that I do know, one of the sparks that kind of created this question was, I believe it was Roth cards had a Dylan Harper that he owned and purchased and he then found a copy of the exact Same card on D.C. sports, same numbering, same everything. And so he posted on his Instagram story and said, hey, what's up with this? Like, what's going on? We need some answers. And basically the update that DC posted yesterday is that they found it was, I think it may have been one consigner. After being alerted to several suspicious cards listed on consignment with us on September 16, we have done a thorough review of active inventory and ended all auctions with doubt of authenticity. As a result of the review, we found 35 cards with attributes that we've determined to be flagged for these counterfeits. These auctions have been taken down and the user accounts frozen to prevent future listings. They talk about some signs of these counterfeit cards. So one of the cards that they use as an example is a Steph Curry Topps Chrome red numbered to five, five out of five. They have some pictures here of some print gaps or flaws. Like it's got like a White corner. It's got kind of some like. It looks like there's like something on the top of the car, but it might even be under, like the, like, chromium surface. The serial numbers are not embossed to the touch as most serial numbers are. So if you have a card that has a serial number, you rub your finger on it, it's like it is physically stamped. It's not just printed on for the most part, as well as color variations where the colors are less true. Fake red looks more like magenta. Fake gold looked more like a yellow. So it looks like per what DC is communicating here, that these were fake cards, which it's something to be very conscious of. As technology gets better, it becomes easier for people to create these. I've seen the Pokemon space. Yu-Gi-Oh I was about to say there is a new 3D printer. It's a. It's a 3D printer technically, but, like, it prints on flat, like, paper surfaces. It's a printer that, though, can print how Pokemon cards have, like, the etching in them. It can print that. I have seen on TikTok, people running streams full of fake Yu-Gi-Oh generated Pokemon cards that look real because it has the etching and it looks incredible. Truly, it does. Seems like every week there's another digital repack company popping up. Every card you see on Trove is held securely in the PSA vault. And PSA independently verifies the Trove actually owns it. As technology is getting better, there are going to be more fakes out there. You need to be in. And this is a message for me too, as somebody who buys a lot of cards at card shows, things like that, if somebody walks up to you with a really big card at a card show, be very, very Very careful. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh it's scary. So, yes, the Pokemon space definitely experiences a lot more. But Yu-Gi-Oh to your point, the more technology gets better, the more fakes will get better. And I will say this big props to D.C. because, like, think about that. That's. That's within, you know, a week and a half, they go, hey, we saw an issue, we handled it immediately. Even if it was, you know, being a little bit conservative in their assessment of the situation, they're like, we're trying to do our best to. To protect the brand and everything. So completely respect the decision versus letting it run. Investigating it for six months. Like, no, they said this could be a major problem. We need to stop this now. Yu-Gi-Oh props. Oh, absolutely. And I'm hoping that we get more information from DC, TOPS, etc. Because there were some theory, you know, some people thought, oh, my goodness, there were duplicates made. There was the instance back a few years ago with the Bowman Zebra fractures where there was an issue at the printing facility where multiple Zebra fractures got put in two packs and tops made it right. You know, they bought those back, etc, per what DC says. There. There were people saying, oh, these were getting, you know, these were their duplicates, these were getting backdoored, etc. Based on DC statement, I'm reading that as these are fake cards and not that somebody, you know, back door to coffee, you know, at the Nashville show, the last Nashville show, which, by the way, you're coming in October. Yu-Gi-Oh dude, I already have my plane tickets. I already got my hotel, everything. Yu-Gi-Oh at the last Nashville show, I bought a card and I think luckily, very luckily was, you know, after to the point of be careful when you buy things. I probably made a mistake in purchasing this card. I was able to luckily move it before, you know, it became an issue. Somebody brought me an Aaron Judge Ben Baller chrome Superfractor auto that was missing the auto. Weird. And so I was like, huh, that's funky. You know, I looked up, I could not find any comps on card ladder searching things, etc. And I was like, you know what? The price was so good. I was like, you know what? Let's just do it. We later came to find out that if you search up Ben Baller Judge auto, just like more simple. There is a. There were two sales on eBay from the same ebay account. There was a red with no auto and there was a rose gold number to 10 with no auto as well. There were no Aaron Judge. Upon further investigation, this again is a learning that I had to go through. And I lucked out that I was able to sell this card to a big Whatnot streamer before I, you know, went further down this rabbit hole and learned more. Aaron Judge was not on the auto checklist. They clearly made a card at one point and then that card did not get signed because it did not get into the product. Somehow that card made its way out and some people in this instance were, you know, conspiracizing that these cards were, you know, maybe backup copies or something of that nature. But I think. And again, hopefully we get more answers from TOPS here. But it sounds like from what DC has said, and I'm sure DC has been in contact with TOPS in regards to this. Yu-Gi-Oh That they are fake cards and not something else, which is a. I, it's. It's not a good thing, but like it's a good thing for the hobby that there's not cards that were being either stolen from a TOPS facility and then trying to be sold somewhere or, you know, anything or duplicates that were inadvertently created. So it looks like it's good that they're fake. Maybe. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's a crazy thing to say. Yu-Gi-Oh Out loud. But I know what you mean and Yu-Gi-Oh it is crazy. So. I mean, when you first mentioned that Judge, the first thing I thought was like, oh, it's just a redemption that got backdoored. But you never know if he's not on the checklist. I don't know. But Yu-Gi-Oh not being on the checklist. Speaking of redemptions, we brought this up a few episodes ago. The Fernando Mendoza All Kings as redemption. We've got something new. 2026 Bowman Chrome baseball. Jim Palmer retrofractor. Non auto redemption. Why? That's the million dollar question, Alex. Why? Why it. So that's what it says. I put it in the sheet. You were due to receive a retrofractor variation of Jim Palmer, Baltimore Orioles BCP 251 from 26 Bowman Chrome Baseball. It doesn't say auto. It doesn't say retrofractor. Auto. It just says the retrofractor. Doesn't even say a parallel. So what happened? What I just. What I don't get there either is it's not like, you know, the. I. I know that's your reaction is exactly mine. Like why it's not. We made the argument last time of the Mendoza being like, hey, well, all Kings are pretty condition sensitive. Maybe it's because of that. Yu-Gi-Oh These are just normal cards. Well, and what I was going to say is it's not even like like that's the same card stock as a regular Bowman Chrome card that they're printing. You know, I was, you know, on the All Kings, technically it's a different. It's a different type of paper, a different production. I wonder if maybe it's something with like in nil, like name, image and likeness of like whether or not they were in negotiations with Jim Palmer to do this and they got it done late enough that they Goldin get it printed on the chromium paper. But at the same time, if you could print it on a redemption card and get it into the Beckett? That's so interesting. I wonder. I know it's. It's weird, but who knows? At the end of the day like I'm, I'm hoping that it's actually a, an error in the redemption and I'm hoping that it's an auto maybe because like imagine surprise. Imagine you're opening Bowman Chrome and you're like, oh, I got a Redemption. And then it's like, boom. Non auto. It's like, Yu-Gi-Oh why now? That's definitely. That's funky. I'll be curious to see if we see more of it again. We said we had the same question on the Mendoza, but we're seeing it again. You know, maybe three times would be a trend. At which point maybe again we'd get some sort of insight from Tops. Next up, I don't know. Roman Anthony base card number 117 redemption. Like, I mean I though something that I will say sorting through this hundred thousand card collection, I, I love the fun of ripping packs and it's a lot more fun to rip a 20 pack box where each pack has, you know, four cards in it than it is to rip a breaker's delight box where it's just the hits. That being said, as somebody who at least somewhat cares about sustainability in the environment, I do look at it and I do wonder what, what we like. There's so much. There's so many base cards. Yu-Gi-Oh That just like and. And I give the guy who I bought this from a little bit of crap sometimes because I'm like, dude, why are you sleeving and top loading a Nico Cavada's first Bowman paper card. Because you never know, dude. You never know. Like yes, that's the answer is from him is you never know. He could end up being really good, etc. But like there's so much stuff that just ends up being that, that like you. I don't want to see all redemptions but like it's what if you get a pack and it's just redemptions for base cards? A list. Literally just a list of, you know, these are the cards that are supposed to be in this box and they're like, we're doing which ones you would like. We're doing this for environmental stability. Meanwhile, you had to print it on another card card that now is. And now you have to request it to be shipped from there. So the airplane is going to pollute. I used to make fun of museum collection because I always called it the EPA's least favorite box because it was a box with four boxes in it with four boxes inside. And it's like, EPA hates this box. To be fair, I drastically prefer a box with four boxes in it to what they change museum collection to me, which is just an eight card box. Agreed. Completely agree. Whatever. Speaking of things that are changing in terms of like paper redemptions, autos, Heritage football. I saw that. So I, I saw it briefly. I didn't look into it too much. Yu-Gi-Oh you know me, I'm a sucker for the Heritage red ink. And so when I saw the. The Heritage post on TOPS website, I immediately thought like, Yu-Gi-Oh show me a Mendoza red ink. Or show me a Tom Brady red ink auto. That'll be awesome. But I put it in our sheet of their main photo that they put on the side. Sticker auto. Yes. When is the last time you pulled a sticker auto from Heritage baseball? I think never. Never. Clubhouse collection Patch autos are on card. Real ones are on card. Like, there are no stickers. But. But the choice to make this price card a sticker auto and make that the headline photo for the product, it scares me, to be fair. In the checklist, I think based on the checklist, they just Beckett a poor photo for it because on the checklist they do have a full list of real one autographs. Real one rookie autographs. There's chrome autographs. I don't see. I don't know whether or not there's real one red ink versus regular ones. But like, if they don't, I'm not buying it. But there are real. But there are real one rookie autographs. So you can pull. Let me see if, I mean, is price on that list? Mendoza is on the real 1 list. Like, why not put Mendoza as your Jadarian Price is on the real one autograph list. I wonder if they just don't have the card. But then again, you can just make a photoshop of it. I don't know. Yu-Gi-Oh Still, it just. Maybe it's a redemption. I know. Stop. But no, I, like, my gut reaction was like, why this card as the product headline, effectively? Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. Like I said, I've never pulled sticker auto from Heritage, and I. I don't want this to be the start of it for baseball. And I don't think it is like this. That is the Heritage rookie autographs, which is a separate autograph in the checklist. There is Heritage rookie autographs, which is a similar checklist to the real one. Like, Mendoza has a Heritage Rookie autograph, and then Mendoza has a real one. Rookie. Odd. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm. I'm excited, though. I mean, it's just fun for me. Heritage is one of those, like, it's typically very affordable, so I'm hoping it stays that way because, Yu-Gi-Oh I love to chase the red inks. I've never, ever pulled one by myself. I own a bunch of them because I bought them, but I will continue that chase. I don't think I've pulled one either, now that I think about it. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, they're Zebra tough, but, Yu-Gi-Oh they are. I do. Unless you have anything else, I kind of want to jump into some mailbag. Let's do it. So I posted this. Start with my. You told me one question beforehand. You need to start with my favorite question. So I posted this on my Instagram story yesterday. For those of you who are wondering where you can submit questions, we'll either post in the SCN Facebook group or on Instagram or wherever. But if you ever see it and you have a question, feel free to drop it in. But starting us off, this is from B. Scott. He said just starting out on Whatnot. Should I use both ground and first class or ground. So ground, first class are the same thing. It's confusing. Via the usps. You know, they. They changed the name of it, what, a year or two ago? Yu-Gi-Oh I think. Think about two years ago. So it's the same thing. It should show up as the same price if Whatnot still lists them both. So it doesn't really matter. Yep. If you're asking though, about the, like, standard envelope thing, my advice there, and I'm curious if you agree or disagree here, Trent, if you are somebody who is just starting off and maybe doing smaller volume. Okay. If you'd like to do that. It's an option. I generally don't recommend using the standard envelope on Whatnot specifically because on Whatnot, as a new seller, you do not qualify for the early payout. And your problem with that is that you, your funds do not get released to you until the card is marked delivered. I did not know that. I don't stream a lot of service. Interesting. And if you've ever bought a card using ebay standard envelope, you know that it's about a 50 hit rate as to whether or not it's Mark delivered. Yes. So I, I tried it once during a stream just to say, hey, you know, people have said, well, if I'm, if I'm only buying one card, I really don't want to have to pay $5 in shipping. Which is totally fair. Yes, absolutely. But the number of people that I had reach out that said, hey, it's mark delivered, but it's not here or it hasn't showed up, etc. It was with the volume that I sell, it just was not worth it. I recognize that might lose out. Yu-Gi-Oh So. But you know the thing that gets me. You brought this up very, very briefly in passing a little bit ago when we were talking about all my ebay listings. Whenever you buy that first card for five, six dollars, whatever shipping is, you were so much stop. You were much more inclined. I mean, even last night I saw that my shipping went from what, 5, 74 down to 74 cents on your stream once you buy that first thing. So now I'm looking at stuff and I'm going, well, I don't have to pay $5 shipping for this, so I'm a lot more inclined to bid on something else. So at the end of the day, it could actually increase your sales because people are saying, well, you know, I'm, I'm effectively getting marginal shipping costs now, so might as well buy something else. So you never know, but just give it a shot. One of the best promos I think that a consignor does on eBay is DC Sports, which is your shipping maxes out at like $9. So I can buy 100 cards from them and it costs nine bucks. Yu-Gi-Oh Which is awesome. Yep. So, next question from prime finders. With the increase, with the increase in vintage, what's your thought on reprint sets like the 52 set or the 83 set? I think it's fun in the same way that, like, I think that Heritage is fun. I don't really think that it's gonna bring or hold a ton of value. So if you, if you are somebody who likes, you know, 1952 and you'd like a Mickey Mantle, but you don't have $40,000 to buy a creased PSA1 copy. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a fun way to put something up on your shelf that kind of looks like it and reminds you of it. But, like, I don't. It's not. It's not a set that's going to drive a ton of collector chase or value for the most part. Completely agree. I think, you know, like you said, we have Heritage, we have platinum anniversary. We have sets that already pay homage to these sets. In the 90s, there are some. I mean, and still we get iconic reprints. 2016, there was a. There was a set of iconic cards that they re released effectively of just even things like, you know, even like Mike Trout's Rookie card from 2011 update or Miguel Cabrera's tops rookie card. So there's still options out there for these reprints. For me, I don't like when we get multiple reprints and multiple reprints and multiple reprints. I agree. I think it just makes it more difficult for a newer collector to come in and say, you know What? I've got $1,000. I want to go buy the best Miguel Cabrera card I can find or the best Miguel Cabrera rookie card I can find. And they pull up ebay and they see this one listed, but they don't realize it's from 2016 in a reprint and they put a ton of money into it and now they feel robbed. So I don't know. At the end of the day, reprints aren't really cool to me personally. But I mean, like, there's. There's options out there if you really want one of these iconic cards for relatively inexpensive. Yu-Gi-Oh I agree. All right, I've got a really good one. I think Drake Tribute this in there. I'm not sure though. Should card shows sell tables that are empty on Sunday to a wait list on site? Yu-Gi-Oh I think that's a great idea. I don't see. So you're going to come to Nashville, one of, if not the best shows in the country, in my opinion, for doing business. One of the challenges that this show has is the way that Jeff, who is an amazing promoter, awesome, awesome guy. He is an old school dude. He does not have a website where you are putting in a deposit and paying for your table beforehand and doing all this and that you show up and you pay for the table. Now you have to reserve it beforehand. You have to email him their every single time. Are a number of tables that are empty because somebody no shows, they put in their name. And his approach that he says that he does is he. If you no show for a table, you are put on the you can't get a table in the future list. Yu-Gi-Oh Well, that's what happened with Fanatics Fest. It was the same thing. Like, we were notified multiple times. Like, hey, you will set up. You will be set up by this time and you will start breaking down at this time. If you do any of those things outside of these windows, like, there's a good chance you one-of-one be invited back. Yep. So at the Nashville show, you will see empty tables because people don't show up. And I know that the Nashville show is a. Those tables have been sold out for a while. I think absolutely, there should be a way that you can, especially if you're somebody local, that you're just like, hey, I can just pop in and set up. I will say, seems like every week there's another digital repack company popping up in. Every card you see on Trove is held securely in the PSA vault. And PSA independently verifies that Trove actually owns it. There are bigger and better chase cards, but Trove offers a 100% instant buyback. The fact that they're thinking beyond just ripping packs with insights and analytics on every card, plus monthly dividends on the card you keep, it's pretty cool. I don't hate a couple of empty tables because what that does kind of create a space for, intentionally or not, is for people to kind of trade with each other, essentially. You know, I really appreciate the flip show. That is a big show down in the south down here that does have dedicated tables. That is a dedicated trade area so that people can go do those things. Because if you're a dealer and somebody's doing a trade at your table, in front of your table, etcetera, it's like you are blocking. I paid for this table space. You're blocking other people from getting to my table. So I get it. I understand that. I think having a couple of spaces for that is probably a good thing because it's going to happen. Regardless, and it's going to make everybody happier. But absolutely. I don't know the best way that you could do it or implement it. But yes, there should be a wait list situation where if you don't show up by this point, your table is given away. And if that happens, then we are going to go to the wait list and you, the first person off the waitlist, is going to be given the opportunity to get a table. As long as it's not eqo, it should be eq. No, I think it's a great idea. I think, Yu-Gi-Oh same thing. It's, you know, seeing empty tables is always like, oh, that's a missed opportunity there. So I think it's a really good, really good idea that I haven't really thought of. So. No, no, I agree. I got a couple more that I really like. This is from CJ RIPS sports cards. And this was, I think this is a good kind of learn about us kind of question. Do you or Alex ever suffer from burnout within the business? How do you get through that? Well, Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, we talked about it earlier before you were a co host on it on the show. Absolutely. I mean, I really feel like it's something that Mike has talked about on SCN before. I think that what is really, really important is you need to keep yourself grounded and connected to the hobby and like the reason why you got into the hobby. Like, I'm gonna be honest, this hundred thousand card collection, it's not Zebra fun for me. It definitely has me and I'm sure moving and all that chaoticness that, you know, literally last week I, on Thursday we saw, we did a FaceTime tour of a house. And on Friday morning, 12 hours later, I was on my way to the airport to go take a look at it. And I don't know whether or not we're gonna do it. It needs a lot of work. So tbd, it was not as amazing as we maybe thought. I think it's gonna be a little too expensive with everything. But like I have a lot going on and this huge collection that is a ton of grind work is not the most fun. I really, I think that I do better when I'm more intentionally buying inventory because what I can do is I can go to my local card shop like I did not too long ago and I can buy a Mark McGuire awesome powers for my Onyx to flip. That's a 40 plus dollar card with a 15 sticker. But in the same box I can find Alex Rodriguez for the PC. Yu-Gi-Oh So I think that when I'm buying cards intentionally and saying I'm going through and I'm spending, you know, a few hours on D.C. sports, placing a bunch of bids on stuff, when I am at a card show, I'm able to better stay tapped into what brings me joy in the hobby, which is like collecting. Whereas when it's all business, all day, you get burnt out. Absolutely 100%. It happens. I'm honestly dealing with some of it right now. Yu-Gi-Oh it's, it's a pacing game. So I mean for me like you, you know this about me, I, I wake up around five. I'm glad you woke up in the morning. I'm, I'm working at 5:30 until 6:30 ish. I go to work, I work all day, I come home, I break and then either sorting or I'm listing or I'm going through stuff usually until 8, 9 o' clock at night. So that right there is what, 14, 15 hours a day. And I do that every day. But for me in between that time is, you know, making content, responding to people, chatting people up. Why? Because at the end of the day the coolest thing to me is talking to people. Even just like you and I having a conversation right now. Like this is my favorite part about the whole sports card hobby. You know, getting that Austin Trusser printing plate is awesome. At the end of the day, do I get burnt out? Yes. Everybody experiences burnout at some point. You just got to switch things up a little bit sometimes. Take something, take one of the 10 things that you have to do within the day and break it down to nine and just say, okay, today I'm just going to do these nine things. I'm going to give myself back an hour and during that hour, just relax, take it easy, go for a walk, do something that you've been wanting to do to recharge yourself. Because it's a marathon, it's not a sprint. Yu-Gi-Oh when. Two thoughts there. One, when I am running my business and doing the hobby in the right way, and when I say the right way, I mean the way that like I like to play with cards, I experience a lot less burnout. That being said, when you are trying to do this as a full time job, me, there are going to be things that you have to do that are not necessarily in exact alignment in the same way with your job, your 9 to 5 that you might have. I'm sure most people, if you have a, if you have your job and there are things, there are probably things that you like about your job and things that you don't like about your job. That's the reality of life. So I think that that is when I try and keep myself doing things more often than I can in the like way that I know that I get enjoyment out of the hobby. But sometimes you got to do things that are outside of it. And two trends point as well of take a break, etc. Sometimes you have to take a break, and sometimes you have to just take a step back. A great example. This weekend, there's a big card show here in Nashville, The Music City autograph and memorabilia show. They have a ton of awesome signers. Bo Jackson's gonna be there, like, a ton of people. I was planning on going to a lot of it this weekend, and I don't know how much I'm actually gonna get to at all this weekend because, well, Friday, the show hours are kind of weird. It's 4 to 8pm we're moving. And as a part of the moral that I'm going to give here is that one of the things that my wife and I basically said is that we have a list of things that we want to do before we leave Nashville. You know, restaurants that we want to go out to eat at, things we want to do, people we want to see, et cetera. Friday night, there's a really, really nice pizza place near where we live that we have a reservation. It's a. It's like a fancy place. Pizza place with a reservation. Yes. You have to get a reservation. Is it potentially Domino's? No. Oh, it's worth. It is not. It is a reservation for Dom Dominoes. I. I legitimately thought I was the only person that had a pizza place with reservation only. This is in Nashville. Yu-Gi-Oh it's called Show Pizza. It is. It's like the guy worked in Japan for a while, and it's actually like Japanese inspired style. Like, it's not. The pizzas are normal. They're really good, though. But like, the dough is fermented for like three days. It's. It's really, really good. It's fancy. It's nice. But so needed a reservation, so we have a reservation on Friday night. All right, well, looks like we might be putting a reservation in for end of October. I'm. I'm down to go, but so Friday night we have that. Then Saturday, Allison has a party for one of our friends who's having a baby soon, and so she has to go to that. And my plan Saturday was to take our daughter on a little nice bike ride. She Loves the bike. Like, we have any bike. Loves going out for, like, a couple of hours on it. She literally, like, if she sees her helmet and she does not get to go on the bike, she will cry. Yu-Gi-Oh but see, but, like, so I'm skipping the show. Yesterday, Brendan said to me when I said, oh, I didn't realize that Friday is a such a short day. I don't think I'm going to be able to go on Friday. He goes, well, do you want Julia to come and just watch the baby for a few hours so that you can go to the show while Allison's at this party? And I was like, that's a really one Zebra nice offer to. For me to be able to get to a show would be a really, really good thing because I've only done one show in the last, like, two months. Like, last weekend, there was a show that I was going to go to that was down in, you know, at the Cool Springs Mall in Franklin. But I ended up traveling this weekend. There was a show that I was thinking about going to, but now all of a sudden, we've got these things. But I said, no. I said, no, I don't want Julia to come and babysit because this is something that I was really looking forward to doing, and I want to make sure that I'm able to do this. So that is the type of thing, in terms of the, like, avoiding burnout, that sometimes you. You have to say no to things, because when saying no to one thing is saying yes to another. 100%. I love it. That's perfect. Yu-Gi-Oh Take breaks. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy life, like, at the end of the day, like, what's this all for if you're not going to enjoy it, Sepia, exactly. All right. One last question that I. I would assume is a little bit more geared towards me, but I'm going to ask you it because I want your perspective. How long is too long to hold a card? More of a Bowman question. It's. The answer is it depends which is not a. Like, it's not this guy. No, it's not a. It's. But, like, I recognize that it's not a great answer. It depends on when you pull the card. So if you're ripping Bowman Chrome right now and you pull one of the big Chase holding it for longer than a month, you're making a mistake. Agreed. But if you rip into 2025 Bowman and you pull a pretty good prospect who maybe is in double A, and there's a, you know, realistic world in which you see Them getting called up next season, etc. Okay, you're probably making the right call to hold on to that. The hype, the initial hype has maybe passed where prices aren't crazy, crazy high. And then now you're waiting for that next bump, which is realistically probably the call up. That's not the case for every player. Sometimes there's definitely like, oh, this guy got rated really highly or is having a really hot moment, etc. I'm like, if you see the bump in the market, don't be afraid to take advantage of it. Yes. If you're holding and buying for call up, I'll give my. I'll throw myself under the bus for the idiot mistake that I made. Guy that I was properly buying and holding some stuff for call up. Walker Jenkins. Yes. Big Walker Jenkins fan. Big Walker Jenkins believer. Bought a bunch of his stuff and then we went on vacation to upstate New York for like three weeks and he got called up. I didn't have the stuff with me. Yep. By the time that I got back, there was no more being able to take advantage of that call up bump. And so now I probably have held that too long. And I have one of two options. I can either sell it. Now, my plan is I do still believe in his talent and I'm hoping that there's going to be a hot streak at some point next year that maybe I can really better take advantage of it. But it. It kind of depends because there's definitely stuff. Like there are car. There are cards that I'm buying today that I'm putting aside and saying this is going to be inventory for the national next year. Yes, dude, but most stuff isn't that. Dude, you're. I think you answered that incredibly well. So, I mean, I'll put it to you this way. It totally depends. It totally depends on a few things. I originally was I didn't like your it depends answer, but then you explained it and I was like, all right, fine, dude, I'll give you a perfect example. A dude who I have been hammering. Theo Gillen, Tampa Bay Rays. He's currently in Yu-Gi-Oh with the Montgomery Biscuits. Shout out to biscuits. Love the team. That's an awesome stadium. But I've been hammering him. Why? Because I think he's incredibly talented. I think he has so many tools and I think he's going to make an impact at the big league level. He is currently the top 100 number 12 prospect. He's the number 12 guy. He just experienced a big bump, dude. He's in double A this is a gigantic bump. Now might be a good time to sell him. It really might be time to soften a little bit, move some of my stuff still hold some of it and wait for a Yu-Gi-Oh call up, see how he plays with Durham and then go from there. It all depends on your risk profile. It all depends on different things. Like if you are willing to buy a guy and say if this card drops 50% in the next six months, like do I expect this to go up 50% or down 50%? Your reaction to that is what determines when the right time is to sell. I also think that it depends to some extent on what you have into the cards. In that one of my sayings is you're never going to go broke making a profit. You know, if you're able to get a one-of-one and cash that one-of-one in, it's maybe worth doing something that I would say in your situation. So let's break you down for a second. How much Theo Gillen have you bought? A lot. How yellow? Yellows, greens, blues, Refractor, autos, base autos, PSA10s, PSA nines. Let's just say five grand. Okay. And roughly what do you think those are worth today? Probably like 8, 8 to 10. Okay. So my approach that I would personally take here, if I were in your shoes, I would sell about five grand worth of those cards. Playing with casino money and then girl math says everything else is free. So I mean I've talked about this card ad nauseam. Carson Benge, True blue. That's it right there. We've talked about this one. Yu-Gi-Oh like yes, you play with the money that you make and then you get to enjoy. Now you get to ride the roller coaster for free. Yes. You don't have to buy a ticket. You can play the Bowman game of waiting for call up. Maybe they're going to be the next big superstar etc. And you don't have to be then worried about oh my goodness, I have all this money into them and what if, you know, he gets hurt or what if this happens? That happens. So if you can cover your cost basis and still maintain a pretty solid portfolio, that is a amazing spot to be in if you can put yourself there. A plus. So here, here's a good example. So right now I. So because I'm going to a local trade night tonight, I priced out my stuff. I mean everything's for sale at a certain price. I priced out that bench. Okay. I bought it on Fanatics collect when he was in Triple A with Syracuse, which by the way, folks be very cautious buying prospects while they're in Yu-Gi-Oh But right now, Carson Benj is the number four favorite for National League Rookie of the Year. I'm not saying he's going to one-of-one it, but he's a top four rookie in the National. But he's been excellent. Right. Do you think that Card has increased in value, decreased in value, or stayed the same? Decreased. Right. Your gut reaction is decreased. And he's the number four. It's. It's about the same. It's pretty darn close, which is like, more often than not, it will go down. Like, guys, he's the fourth best rookie in the National League and his prices are even or down like that should tell you the name of the game, but cash out. That's Bowman. That's Bowman. And I tell you what I. People talk about like, hey, Bowman is. Bowman is dying. Goats are. Goats are rising. In my opinion, that just means more buying Bowman. For me personally, well, it's, you know, I. I actually want to pose a question to you here that I've been getting Shohei Ohtani hurt. Not necessarily. He's not gonna one-of-one the mvp. It's definitely a down moment to some extent right now for show by Ohtani. What's your approach? Are you buying? Are you selling? Are you holding? I'm. I'm buying and holding. Because here's my thought process. If there is a lockout next year, I think that there will be a gigantic increase in either the football or basketball or both markets. And I think that baseball will soften, prospects will be impacted the most. But I think a name like Shohei Ohtani, I think. I think your top two to four baseball players will maintain their values or people will say there's a lockout. Their prices have to be going down. Let me buy now. When in reality, that's exactly what happened this offseason. People go in the off season, Shohei's prices will drop. They didn't. They went up. Like, he is the one player who I truly think is the exception. I used to not be on this train at all. You know this. But I think that if there is any player whose values will increase, any active players during a lockout, it would be his. Not even just that. The example that I gave when somebody asked us the other day in stream was, let's look at baseball cards like a stock. Mm. Bowman, you're buying penny stocks? Yu-Gi-Oh I am. You are hoping that opportunity just came across my desk. Yes, exactly. You're hoping that you are finding the diamond in the Rough. The amazing opportunity that's going to go up 500%. Shoehei Ohtani is a blue chip stock. Yes. Ohtani is a, Microsoft is an Amazon is one of these huge companies that is so well established and if you ask anybody who has a lot of money, any big investors, etc. If the market goes down, what do they do? They buy. Because all that in their mind, all that it means is they're getting one of these blue chip companies at a discount. It's on sale. So my answer wholeheartedly is if we see Ohtani prices go down because the Dodgers get bounced early from the playoffs because they're not able to hit left handed pitching or if, you know, his injury continues, etc, you will see me buy. Yu-Gi-Oh So I mean here's the thing dude. I, I have had to stop myself many times already because I, I get enthralled in the comments sections of posts. I know. Here's a recap of Shohei Ohtani's career worst year batting.277 with 30 home runs. I mean like his OPS. He's a.902 OPS and people are saying he sucks out of here. Are you stupid or dumb? It's a rhetorical question. You're both, dude. It's like you can't, you can't. Like they're the last three seasons in a row he's had an OPS over a thousand. Yep. Stop it. Yu-Gi-Oh I agree. I think, I think we buy, but at the same time, am I still, am I going to be buying, you know, crazy, crazy, crazy hard? No, I'm buying what my risk tolerance can take. I'm not going to go out and buy, you know, a 2018 Topps Chrome Gold rookie auto. Like no, but I might buy. You know, I bought a 2018 Gypsy Queen rookie at a show last weekend because it's like, Yu-Gi-Oh it's a good price. I like it. But you wouldn't be buying a gold Rookie Auto anyways. Shut up. I might be. When I get, when I one-of-one my $50 million from the SCN challenge for being the top dog, I might, I don't think the Prizm pools that big, but I don't think there is a Prizm I think it's just bragging, right? No, there's, there's a, there's a price. Oh well, look at this. See, I don't even care what the prizes. I'm just in this for the love of the game and to talk trash to you. So I know there's a cash Prizm I don't know how big it is, but I know it's at least a thousand dollars. The caveat is you have to buy one of. You have to put it all into one card of one player on your list. I actually think a cool Prizm would have been that you could pick. You get a cash Prizm and any player or any card that is on your list, that's. That would be. That would be pretty cool. Like they will. And obviously, you know, some of these, like if, you know, you pick a 101, that might not be available, but you know, that's a fun idea. Yu-Gi-Oh Well, that's pretty much the majority of the mailbag.
