So I go on my late night walk sometimes. It's 11 o' clock midnight here, it's an hour earlier in California. You know, I talked to Joe and I for years. We've had late Night calls. But Joe goes to bed a bit earlier, you know, especially during the school year when he's working. But you, I call you anytime, you know, or I'll talk to Joe and then I know Joe's gone to bed. All right, well try David now. So it's nice to have friends to talk to when you're, when you're out walking around doing your thing and bouncing ideas off of. It's not just, it's not like we're just wasting time. We're actually, we're either hunting for cards or we're, you know, being creative, coming up with some ideas, that kind of thing. So it's always good. We also talk about each other, Jeremy. I mean we talk about our families and everything too where we have normal conversations. Card people, besides card topics. Talking about, you know, we talk often about investing and. Oh, it wasn't. Yeah, it was last week, last with David Novak about, you know, should you invest in cards? And I got. This wasn't a comment left on the video, but I got some DMS on my Instagram and I screenshot them. I'm going to share them. I just want to read this one comment that I got that. I just want to share it with the audience, you know, so I'm gonna do that. I'm gonna put on the screen. I'm gonna read it. All right. I don't know if I want to look. No, it's not bad. No, it's not bad at all. This came in. This came in, let me think, probably three days ago. Here it is. It reads. Listening to the new show, for all the people who have something to say about how people are spending their money, I wonder if when they go to sell a card, if they ask to make sure the buyer is okay financially and make sure the buyer has the extra money for the card they are buying. And imagine dealers doing that at shows. And those people who are true collectors should appreciate the fact they are able to do that. Most of us are average people who need to buy and sell to have any chance of just collecting cards, but they would rather throw stones and make themselves feel better about themselves. So I read that comment, and, you know, it's a, it's aggressive. First of all, it's, it's an, it's a, it's an aggressive comment from somebody who was obviously offended or perturbed by something that was said on, on the, on last week's episode. So. But there's two things there. First, he says, like if you're, if you're, if you're gonna talk about how people are spending their money, or when you go to sell a card, are you, are you making, are you checking the, the financial health of the person you're selling a car to? I mean, I've sold lots of cards of shows over the years, David. I've never once thought to ask if you can afford what you're buying. I figure they can if they're there spending the money. So. Thought that was an interesting take, kind of looking at the other side of things. Any thoughts on that, David? Just as the first half of the comment, I mean, I'm just trying to think of where that came from. And you have to remember also, when you're selling a card at a show, the buyer is not talking about. Usually just mentioning that they're using part of their 401k to make the purchase also, which was kind of put on a silver platter to have this conversation. Right. So that might be the. Maybe a little bit of a reason why we don't usually ask that question. But if somebody walked up to you and said, I'm using my 401k to buy this thing, maybe you would ask them additional questions on top of it. But I get what they're saying. That's usually not mentioned when we buy and sell cards, right? Usually, yeah. Yeah, exactly. I never think about it. So. And listen, this is one person's lens and. And somebody who I've communicated with on Instagram a little bit here and there. And that's fine. I mean, it's all good. No, no pushback from me either way. Well, we might get some. We. What am I talking about? We all. We'll get some pushback, I'm sure. And then. And then I'll put it back on the screen for a moment. The second part. Those people who are true collectors. And he puts that in quotes, should appreciate that they're able to do that. Most of us are. Or average people who need to buy and sell just to fund collecting, which I think is. Is. Is what? When he. He says most of us are average people who need to do this. Most of us. Now, I just saw a comment from Foul Ball. He writes, the average collector does not need to flip to collect. Who's right? The guy who DM me or Foul Ball? Seems to me like both of these guys are just looking at who they are and putting it out there and saying, well, this is what I think, because this is how I am. But who is anybody, right? Is anybody wrong? Or is everybody just always projecting what they see and feel onto everybody else? And really, to the guy who DM'd me, who says most of us are average people who need to buy and sell. I have a lot of friends in the hobby who only buy cards once they sell a card to get more money to buy a card, I don't think that makes them average or. Or not average or above average or below average. And some of those people have a couple million dollars worth of cards. Is that an. Is an average person, someone that has. I don't know what average means, really. We're talking about net worth. We're Talking about net cardboard worth. If you have a couple million in cardboard, but you don't have ten grand to buy a card but you're meeting make. Make your. You're paying all your bills, you're meeting all your obligations, I think you're at a pretty good spot in life. But you might want to buy a card to. Sorry, to sell a card to buy a card. As opposed to some like Foul Ball who never sells and instead receives their paycheck, puts X percent aside and uses that to fund their hobby. I'm guessing. I don't know how that works for, for a specific person, but I, I think that, I think that neither person knows what they're talking about here. I don't think Foul Ball knows for sure what the average collector needs or does not need. And I don't think the person who DM me knows for sure what the, what average people need to do to buy or sell cards. Average people can easily just take money off a paycheck. Other average car. Other average people need to need to sell cards to buy cards. So I think both, I think both guys are not completely wrong, but they are certainly projecting how they live unto the rest of the hobby. Any more thoughts before we do or you want to do? Comments first David? No, I have a thought. I mean, I understand where everybody's coming from and I agree with you. We're just projecting the way that we really feel. I'm somebody who, first of all, the longer you've been collecting, the more you've been able to build up and have a wealth of cards to be able to use, to be able to buy other things. If I was only using fresh capital for cards, I'd be buying not even close to as often as I do now. So for me, the part of the hobby that I enjoy where I'm able to buy a nice fun new card that might even be a little bit more expensive than I want to. I have to sell to do it, but I completely get people that don't. And in a perfect world, if I had unlimited money, I would never sell two. But that's the game I play. Yeah. And we don't have. We are not people of unlimited funds, unfortunately. Kenny G. What is happening? LGJ says, are we submitting financial statements now? I mean, let's face it, to bid on some items, I think you have to with certain auction companies, he says honestly never gave a thought to this. That's their business anyhow. Right. Which is an interesting comment because there's a lot of, I mean I call, I'll call it virtue signaling, for lack of a better, better term. But there's a lot of that coming from people from content creators, voices in the hobby who are basically saying that, you know, we need to watch. We need to watch out for fellow hobbyists, make sure they're not getting ripped off, make sure they're not spending too much money, make sure they're not overspending on breaks and that kind of thing. But here, let's go. Jordan says it's their business anyhow. So, you know, there, there's, there's two sides, right? There's the side where we, we care about our fellow hobbyists, and there's the other side that says, hey, are you an adult or are you a child? Collector Charles says each collector is different and has a different avenue in collecting. Some avenues are on Easy street and some are on Wilshire Boulevard. Doesn't make them any better or worse. And Shaheen says everyone has their own discretionary income. It's all relative. I think we forget just how relative these things are. Absolutely. Desert Shield says true collectors are not. If you are an adult, you are responsible for your own decisions. Don't make this on the seller. If they make a bad decision with cards and at least they can sell it. That's true. You can always sell. If you make a poor buy, you might lose money, but hey, that might be okay. And Jim Define says if you look at collectors as average based on money, then you may need to look deeper. In my humble opinion. I think he's saying that anyone who's a collector is, you know, you can count your blessings if you have any money to collect with. You're. You're living a. What might be a pretty good life. Stooks here says collector is someone who collects objects because they are beautiful, valuable, or interesting. Goes on to say there's no set way to collect the objects. Jesse says, I've been flipping Ohtani's like a sumo wrestler. Brian says, that's why the junk wax arrow was awesome. Anybody can collect. Lgga says to. To me, I make a good point. We did submit for Premier Elite Auctions, I think some sort of financial statement or at least the ability to pay, showing you have the finances to pay. And Chris says to me, if you read between the lines, it says it's about life and debt. Sorry, it's about life and death. It's not going to matter in the end. And truth be told, the people in this hobby need to learn that. Yeah, I mean, listen to what I'll say to you on that Chris is that reading between the lines is you know you are speculating what is truly going in in that person's mind which makes, which makes any written word communication that bit that much of a challenge. But I do appreciate your your thought and your, your your like analysis of that situational says my card collecting is average. My doordash account use is well above average. Card story says I've been selling in order to fund cards that would otherwise take too long to save up. So far so good. Yeah, hey whatever works for you. It's good enough for us. Finney wins. It's already all, you know, beautified up, thumbnails made. So I mentioned that it was one of the. One of the biggest names in the industry and that when I tell you who it was, some of you are going to kind of say, I don't know that that's the biggest name but there's a new documentary that just came out on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. It is called Signed, Sealed and Delivered. Something like the, the business, the, the billion dollar, you know, sports card and memorabilia business and it features a whole bunch of, of people in the hobby. Many of them are big names but one of them is somebody who I've actually met a couple times in person in Toronto of all places because this is not a Canadian person but at the Toronto card show. David, can't wait to hear who this is. I, I just, you're like who is it? And, and this is a, this is a person who I think might, might have a bit of a polarizing presence in the hobby. I'm not exactly sure but some of the people who do what he does are polarizing but he is an individual who goes by the name of Joe Hollywood. Joe Hollywood. David, you're not even flinching. Do you know who that is? Hollywood. I know Hollywood Dave. No, I don't know Joe Hollywood. That's California Dave. That's California from the Hawkins Hollywood. Joe Hollywood is somebody who is a, he's a breaker, he is the biggest breaker on I believe he's the biggest breaker in the whole business. Now maybe not, I don't know if it's from a revenue perspective or what but like on what, he's the number one breaker on whatnot is my understanding and he is, he's one of the featured guys in this Amazon Prime Apple TV documentary and very well known in that in that area. So you know this community, the sports cards live community that a lot of the YouTube community, all the other, you know, the sports card clubhouse, the midlife communities, all these sort of communities we have here that all have, you know, on the Venn diagram we all overlap. Many of these people might not be too familiar with the, with what's going on in the world of breaking. I'm not that familiar with what's going on in the world of breaking. I've never, I shouldn't say never. I haven't entered a break in over 10 years. Probably I dabbled when it was first a thing. I don't even know that I've ever seen Joe Hollywood break except for clips on other people's channels. So I don't enter these places now all that said I am on, I am now streaming live to fanatics collect but that's in the collect originals department which is non transactional and separate from all the breaking and whatever else goes on there. The Selling singles, I suppose, all these things. But it was really interesting and to chat with him and that video is. It's locked, loaded, ready to go. It's going to go live at. I think it's, it's either 7:15am or 9:15am Eastern. So on Monday, so early Monday morning is when it's going to go live. We went for over an hour, we had a great conversation. We talked about a whole bunch of things. So I think it'll be really interesting to people for people to check out and yeah, I hope, hope you enjoy it. If, if nothing else. Yeah, so, but this, listen, this is actually a really interesting comment from Charles here because, well, that tells me that Charles came into the hobby as far as social media goes at some point since I'm even Boston Card Hunters new to the game only a couple years ago. Jeff Wilson's been around on content Since I think 2019 and Joe Hollywood I think has only been around since 22 or 23. And you know, he mentioned that in, in our discussion. So. But that's interesting that those are the three, first three names that he ever heard. I find that to be quite interesting. Orlando says that Joe is a huge breaker. David Desert Shield is waiting for a David Chase community. Guys, David Chase does not have time to be his own YouTube channel. Here's the problem with David Chase, you guys. If David Chase were about to be so selfish as to take himself away from all the other channels that he graces with his presence to start his own channel, I think that'd be the end of David Chase. I think David Chase is better suited for other people's channels. I'm kind, I'm kind of being very selfish. I appreciate that. I think that's a nice comment. I appreciate that, Jeremy. And the other thing I, I'll, I'll say to anybody who is, you know, anti breaking, if you don't like Joe Joe Hollywood, fine. I mean, I don't really care if you like him or not, but either way, watch the video on Monday. Watch the video, throw stones at your screen if you want. I. Again, I don't really care. You know, I, I had a very pleasant conversation with him. I've met him in person twice that I can remember both times. Incredibly nice guy. Now I don't patronize his breaking. I don't know what happens in, in his breaking world. So. Which is kind of, was kind of good because I came at it from a very like a clean slate sort of thing. You know, I don't know much about him. I know the Boston Card Hunter kind of went after him a few months ago, but then they talked and now they're collaborating. So he passed the Boston Card Hunter test. He's a, you know, Boston Card Hunter. Nick's a major watchdog in the hobby and I think they've done some charitable things together, this and that. So all that. All that, you know. Anyway, check it out. It's probably good that you. That I didn't know about him because like the breakers I do know of. It's because of a bad story, right? Like a couple of these breakers that have had some, some things that ended up getting out that were not the most PC things in the world that came out. This isn't one, at least that I've heard of, that was ultra negative. So that's a positive thing. Mr. Hollywood. Yeah, yeah. No, you know what? But let me tell you, if he was available on a Saturday night, and even though he's not here right now, and I see, see some venom coming from the chat. Yeah. Today lets me know that although it would have been great for ratings, but I'm, I'm willing to sacrifice that just to have a, a nice conversation sort of uninterrupted. But hey, maybe he'll come on alive in the, in the future and we'll, and you know, he's, he can, we can throw him to, we can throw him to the wolves here if he, if he wants to, to do that.
