Cards BANNED 2 Weeks Before The World Championships | Uncommon Energy Episode 215

On this week's episode, we're going to be talking about some news around the cards at the World Championships, specifically ones that are illegal banned at the World Championships, and then also an errata of a card that may see some play at Worlds. We will of course have Guess that Flavor text, everyone's favorite segments of the podcast where there are just two weeks left of this season of Guess that Flavor text. And then we are going to wrap up this week's episode by taking a look at the Pokemon TCG Live letter to the community. There's also patch notes that came out. Maybe we'll look at those. I guess I don't know stuff about PTCG Live on this week's episode. Week's been pretty good. Even making videos. Playing the big Doom tournament over the weekend. Got fourth in that. That was. Was good. Been playing a lot of online tournaments recently. I guess that like makes sense. You know, it's kind of like not nothing new to play around with, so less new stuff to kind of try out with. Did go to Yosemite on Monday, so that was fun. Might actually go back again next. Did you do any as well, bouldering? No. There were people there bouldering. Like people. They bring their pads, they bring boulders. No, the boulders are there. There's plenty of boulders. There's plenty of boulders there. Some people are also doing some. What is like the. There's bouldering and then like I've been climbing with a rope, but there's like got to be a name for it. Climbing. Just rock climbing. Is it just. Yu-Gi-Oh rock climbing. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, you could say that's what bouldering is as well, though. So I don't know if there's like a better definition for it, but. Well, bouldering is specifically without a rope, right? Yu-Gi-Oh it's like, you know, you don't go very high. Yu-Gi-Oh that's the difference there, really, like climbing a boulder. It's pretty hard to die while bouldering. You could die while Rock climbing, though? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh definitely. Quite a bit harder. Big difference. Well, unless you like. What do they call it? Free solo. Well, I guess that's, that's. That's just rock climbing without a rope or. Or harness. But they're pretty similar in that sense. Like watching videos of people doing that kind of stuff now. Yu-Gi-Oh I did that, went to Yosemite and I think that was about it. I did keep up over the week with the registrations for the tournaments because I'm just kind of curious. Like everyone. I feel like the community over complains about events being sold out so quickly and they're not doing anything about it. But year over year, events are bigger. We still sell them out. That's a good thing. That's a good relationship to have with organizers and tpci. Specifically, we sell out the events next year. They're bigger. We did have a couple this year in US and Canada that were smaller or equal size, which is disappointing. But it doesn't seem to be a trend. And specifically it seemed like Baltimore, there was a little bit of room. They didn't sell it instantly. I think you could register for like 5 minutes after the event opened up. Still pretty quick though. Yu-Gi-Oh Louisville, I think was open for like an hour. I remember checking an hour after registration was open, I'm pretty sure. And I could still register for Louisville. So I mean, obviously it'd be great if it was open for like a week. Right. More time for the information to spread and people locally because that's like a big thing. I feel like. Comes up a lot in my chats that people will be like, I literally live down the street from the Louisville Regional Championships, but I didn't hear about it until, you know, two weeks into the event. So obviously ideally registration will be open for like multiple weeks ahead of time to comfortably allow everyone who would want to go go to the event. But that's not the landscape we live in currently. So as long as they're selling out, that's like important and. But it does seem like the events are being. Or either there's less interest in the events or they are just getting bigger holes. Brisbane, like, I can still register for Brisbane right now, which I'm kind of surprised by because the Australian ones like aggressively sold out. So anyone who did register for Brisbane, if you let us know the numbers in the comment section. Right. What. What are the numbers currently at? I'd be very curious to know. I think last Brisbane Regionals was. I actually just looked it up and I forgot the number. Was it 617. I think it was 617. Yu-Gi-Oh around that 6002 number, I feel like has been. Yu-Gi-Oh it was 617. So it seems to be probably. How did you remember that specific number that's like. No, I just looked it up. I just looked it up before the, like earlier. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh okay. Literally just looked it up. Rain man over here. Yu-Gi-Oh no, so, Yu-Gi-Oh I think, like, we're still just on a good track, but we've been on a fine track for a while now. I feel like people fear Monger registration numbers and how quickly stuff sells out when it's like, that's what we want things to sell out. We just need TPCI to respond in kind and the terminal organizers to respond in kind. And they have been. So it's. And it seems like we're on good track already early on in the season, and I'm excited to see what they do with the ICs specifically this year. Talk to me about this Tournament of Doom event. You played a little bit more. You played Excadrill. There's also a joke to be made here about Azul only being able to get to top four at Worlds. Yu-Gi-Oh joke plenty of times this weekend. But Yu-Gi-Oh Worlds of Doom. For anyone who's unfamiliar, which I'm sure that some people are, Senor Doom runs the Doom tournaments. And it's like the biggest kind of tournament circuit in the. On for Pokemon, the Pokemon TCG right now for online tournaments. Like, the Doom tournaments are the big tournaments in the online tournament space. And he. He held like a invitational, not. It was not like a Zebra invitational. Like anyone could qualify through playing in, like the regular season tournaments. So I believe, like, the. The day one of the tournament had like 900 people playing in it. So I don't even know what the baseline qualification was to play in to get an invite for the day one of the tournament, but there was 900 people who played in that. I had a day two invite because I one-of-one a Doom tournament recently. So I'd have to play until day two, which was Sunday. And then I did end up getting top four. Did play Mega Extra Drill. It's just kind of the deck I've been having some fun with recently. And I could. I was gonna maybe gonna play Alakazam. That was like another deck that I've been playing. I think album actually seems pretty good. And there's a lot of space in the deck because I feel like you don't need to play enhanced stammer right now. You're pretty loud on your heroes Cape technology right now, huh? Yu-Gi-Oh If you want to beat Festival Lead and you want a chance against Paul Blaziken, you kind of need the heroes. I think the better way to play the deck is the trolley build. Like, that's the more powerful it feels. The deck feels better when you play the trolley build, but I think your one-of-one percentage is lower in the current meta game, so you got to go the. The tech route with the Heroescape inclusion and. And all that. And I played four Brocks. I didn't play any, what's it called, Lilies or anything like that. Cut all the lilies. Just played the Brock scouting. And I'm not like, really sold like this is the best way to play the deck or anything like that. But besides Heroescape, I think like Charlie is like. I think the Heroescape is necessary. But besides that, there's like, a lot of people have been playing like quad Jumbo ice cream. I only had two of those because it feels like the first Jumbo ice cream is where you get the. Like. That's like a huge turning point in keeping your Exadril alive for another turn. And then from there you need to hit three or four of them. But that's just like. Like I played the quad ice cream builds and I'm just like, you just more often get like a double ice cream turn. I feel like that's all you gain from playing for ice cream. But that's. Sometimes that's it's so irrelevant so often it just doesn't even seem necessary. And then I specifically checked in the tool scrapper because from day one to day two, there was a lot of people who made day two with Dragapult and Zork decks with a Beery Berry or whatever it's called, which basically lets them survive an Excadrill hit and Heroes cape. So I kind of text for the people who made it from day one to day two. So that's like the floating spot in the deck. That could literally be anything right now. Dude, are we gonna see these berries, like pop up at Worlds? I don't know. Exad's like, really? It doesn't feel like Exadual is going to be like. Like, if you're not taking Shaman in your deck for Slow King, I don't think you're taking Barry for Exodus. Like in theory, you know, there could be some math. I don't know the math, but it. It could exist somewhere out there, you know. Share your. Share your screen with me. I can't see what you're looking at. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh The. The Dragon. We saw someone, someone played that in something. I feel like we've seen the C play, but I don't know how. Like it never like top cuts or anything like that as far as I'm aware. I'm pretty sure Oscar Madsen had it in his Dragapult Charizard like guide leading into the event where he got top cut, I want to say. And he was playing the Acerola. He didn't play the Haban Berry because people in my chat were like, oh, he's playing Haban Berry. But then he wasn't playing. Pretty sure he had like and cooking with the card or something like that. And we've seen it pop up in some lists that have like made day two at regionals and stuff, but we have never seen it have like a deep finish. These are just kind of cool cards to exist in the metagame. I've always felt like they very rarely come up. I feel I. Dude, I feel like Papa Berry. I. I like came to many times whenever Garty was dominating. It was obviously never good enough. But like just the idea that there's something out there that could exist that gives you an answer into like a specific metagame is I think very cool. Yu-Gi-Oh Piapa Barry and Charizard was talked about I think at some point to like protect a Charizard from like the driftling one hits and stuff like that. But it never. Yu-Gi-Oh I can never like at the end of the day was like never really worth playing, it seemed like. But Yu-Gi-Oh these cards are cool the game. The problem is like the game is just so fast. It's hard to make sure you can get value out of them. I think that's usually, usually the problem with cards like that. In the current landscape of the Pokemon TCG for the last I don't know how many years now, it's just hard to make those cards get value unless you're playing like a petrol deck or an Arvin deck. You know, we've had those. Like you need to be playing something like that so you can find the cards. But Yu-Gi-Oh in the tournament. Doom. Besides like my finish, I did lose to the eventual winner, which was Arboliva embarrassing. I mean it's a good to find deck, right? It's a fine deck. Who knows, maybe there's something here for. Maybe someone's gonna roll up one-of-one worlds again. Marvel Ogrepon. It was like initially built as like an anti Dragon ball deck too, right? Arboliva Early Ogre Pond late. Yu-Gi-Oh like the Lokes in theory. Right. But then it just. It's. It fell off and dragapult remained a dominant force. I don't know. I mean probably a big part of it is that they all have mole trays now. Right. And people were not playing Moltres. True. Actually this was before Moltres existed. Right. Like it was like. No, no, no. Mole trees existed. Moltres existed. I'm trolling. Yu-Gi-Oh But no one really played it. I think High drapple brought about the increase in Y's play. No one was like playing Maltries for the. I think maybe some Dragon culture leaning on Shaman early. Yu-Gi-Oh This is like right after rotation is when this deck first popped up. It's funny how it was like not that long ago and we have to like piece it back together. How the metagame shook up. Yu-Gi-Oh But then there was like a lot of pull in cut still as well. Yu-Gi-Oh It was like a 30 top cut because it was 411 was asymmetrical cut uncapped. We ended up with a 30 cut overall. There's a lot of people and it is a lot of pulse. Yu-Gi-Oh A lot of Paul. A lot of pulse. Feel like the standouts in this cutter. Like the Lucario is like the unique decks that you don't see as much with unfair stamp in the Lucario as well. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't see that too often. And then the. The Tank, Kangaskhan, Kanga Boof. Definitely a deck I want to have faith in. But it's got too many bad. Well maybe right now it always suffered against like the fighting. I like. I'm a little. A little bit skeptical of this decks match up against Zorark. They just hit so hard. So like previously the matchup against Orc was favored because they could do 170 max unless you decided you want them to be able to hit harder. But now they can be hitting for 290. So it's a lot like you had play a lot of healing. But they put on a lot of pressure and they can put it on pretty quick. Well here's what the meta game was I guess if we're doing a full breakdown basically of this tournament now. A bunch of dragapults. What 40 dragapult basically here. Right. With the all the variants. And then Excadrill right up there as the next deck. 8% slow king not too far behind though. Neither of these decks really did the best. 40. 41 one-of-one rates. Zorc still doing pretty well. 52 at the 7% rate. Here's what I keep Seeing with like Pult, Nord didn't have a great one-of-one rate either. I feel like that's on online. In online terms. I feel like Polton or is though it keeps having like a poor one-of-one rate. I don't know where it's like coming up short or what it's coming up short again, but I still feel like it. I feel like it performs pretty consistently at major tournaments. And we saw Nettie Letter gets like an naics a couple dumb. I did make it from day one today too. These are probably some of the players who made it from day one today. Yikes. Is not real. They just need to hide. No sneaking. Just hide. Where? Dude, nothing is good enough anymore. I feel like one of us knew that deck was not going to be that good. I don't remember. Oh, it's still got three years, bro. It's got like two or maybe not three years. It's got what, two and a half years left. Two. I feel like when we judge stuff most of the time we think about it in the scape of the current metagame mostly. Well, I think about potential. I think it's good. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I mean we both do. But Yu-Gi-Oh I mean I was hoping. I was more hopeful. I didn't think it would be like a. It would be like a takeover deck, but I thought it could maybe be a Contenders Like it'd be like a Zoroark level deck or something like that. It's so far. It is not. I mean we've had no major tournaments with it besides the one major tournament where I got second. Right. So who knows? We'll see what Worlds brings. I'm not Zebra hopeful for it obviously at this point, but hide and sneak, top cut of Worlds. I mean, at this point we're already looking ahead towards like. Actually we're not even. Dude, that's so weird. It's like I was gonna say at this point we're looking ahead towards Rayquaza to be like, no, we're not. But it's not. We're getting 30th anniversary before Rayquaza. So we're looking forward to Mew. It's psychic type new deck with Clefairy and Beedle deck with Clefairy and Mew. Who knows? That could be that. That's gonna be terrible. Let him cook. The mew is just so squishy. It's. Yu-Gi-Oh it gets so easily. We even have like a full set list from the 30th anniversary set. Do we know everything? I don't know. But dude, I'VE seen so much of that set be like opened on Twitter and stuff now I feel like at this point, like they gotta shut these le down. I wonder if that's one of the reasons that they. It's all stolen cards. It's all stuff that's stolen from the factory. I feel like. Or like backloaded off of distribution trucks. Like there's shady stuff going on out there, dude. It's kind of insane. Pokemon is. I just incentivize so many people to just like, you know, risk a lot. Especially like if you work at the factory. Like you have to be like signing a contract where like you get screwed. If you get caught stealing from the factory, like you're done. They go to jail, dude. If they get caught. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a. It's a real thing. It is literally just stealing. But I feel like it's got to be more severe than what normally would be. I'm sure you're signing some contract that makes it more severe than maybe it would normally be to steal from your factory you work at or something like that. Yep, that's what I've been up to then. What about you, Chip? How have things been going? Getting excited for Worlds? Yu-Gi-Oh man, it is right around the corner. It's going to be here before we know it. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm Zebra pumped. I feel like we've said it every week, but Yu-Gi-Oh I cannot wait to see what the inside of the arena looks like. I know nothing about like what the inside setup is going to look like. So I just cannot wait to see what they have in store for that. And the whole event is going to be great for sure. I cannot wait. But other than that, Yu-Gi-Oh pretty normal week to be honest. Really not much going on, I guess. Totally unrelated to the trading card game, Pokemon did announce this week a few things about like the video games, like virtual. Like this is stuff I know you don't care anything about, but like Pokemon Home being able to connect to the recent re releases of like Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green on the switch. But one of the things with that is they did announce that Pokemon bank is not going to be an available service anymore, which was. I don't know if you know this or not, but there currently exists a way that you can transfer a Pokemon from. From the original Game Boy advance games all the way up to the most recent games and use them. You can transfer them 20 something years in the past up to current day, but they're basically removing the ability to do that service which has a lot of people up in arms for sure. It's kind of unfortunate, but I don't know what the maintenance looks like on their end to keep that going. So I, during this podcast, may be off to the side. If you see me looking down to the side, I'm currently soft reset Shiny. Hunting for shiny Celebi in the virtual console of Pokemon crystal on my 3Ds. Let's see it right here. One check. Is this going to be Shiny Celebi? Azul thoughts? Shiny Celebi. Here we go. Unlikely 1 in 8192 chance. No. Grinding for the cell. Wait, so is that. It's like the last opportunity February to try to get it, and I'm gonna send it up to Pokemon Home. The only way to get a shiny Celebi, I think, ever in the game outside of a event that happened like in 2017 or something like that, which I did not care about that stuff very much at all back then. And I'm not Zebra like, invested in it at this point. But, like, I had played through this game with the idea of like, oh, I can like. I bought Pokemon crystal on the 3Ds forever ago, obviously, because the Nintendo Eshop shut down on the 3Ds several years ago. And I played through it and was like, Yu-Gi-Oh I'll hunt this thing. Sure. It'd be cool to have this because it's really hard to get shiny and it's very low odds. And now I've got a deadline to try to get it and get it up to the new games. Otherwise it one-of-one ever be possible. So. When'd you say the deadline was? November. It's like in February. Oh, in February. Oh, you have so much. So many times, dude. But it's 1 in 8,192. It's like, it's pretty tough. You should be able to get it grinded out, no problem. Well, if I can do it to the side while I'm recording the podcast, yes, maybe. But this is your Celebi time. My celeb time. Luckily, it's very easy to do. Just mash the A button until you see the Pokemon and then reset and you don't have to, like, do anything else. So. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh it would be pretty hype if I did get it while we're recording the podcast, though. It would be hype. All right. We got a couple cards to talk about. Not new cards, which we'll usually talk about, but band cards from Worlds. And this isn't actually anything new. Was it two worlds ago they banned the Petront promo. I believe the potential access to the card was going to be really low. So that that was like, would have been technically legal for players playing the game in their regions. Archie. It was, it was one of the situations where like we got the card before Japan did or something. Right? Or like our access to it was much higher. I don't think Japan had received this card yet. I'm pretty sure at the time that Worlds happened, it came as a promo card in the shrouded fable, like blister packs I believe. And we did not get that. And that is the similar thing happening here. This was an email sent out to world's competitors. It was like a know before you go email. And the note says the following cards are banned from play during the World Championships. And that is Mega Evolution promo number 37 to 63. Which if we go over here to mega evolution promos 37 to 63, it is all these first partner collection promos which are not available in Japan yet. So that's what it's about is the access of tough cards in Japan. That's like so weird. Like, I mean usually Japan gets everything first, but then it's like, weirdly we got these first. And there actually is one playable one right now, which is the Grookey. Like my current festival lead build has like I have like a 22 split. Or you could just play four of the grookey. To be honest, like you should probably play it's because it with Goldin You want a KO baby. Manectric basically is the reason to play this Grookey and that's like the only real reason to play it, I guess. It also wanted kosher. I'm putting two energy on the Grookey is kind of annoying, but for the Manetric KO it's kind of useful. But like maybe metric isn't. Like we could also kill like cornerstone and stuff with it, right? Yu-Gi-Oh but bangle plus gladiation on anything else also does that. So you're not like stressing. Yu-Gi-Oh you're not stressing about it. So like technically I think it's optimal to play at least one, maybe two of these. But like, I don't know, dude. I just feel like how is this like a thing where it's like we have, we have these weird things before Japan does and now it's not legal for World Worlds. Like can we just get on the same schedule, man? Like we don't have to like worry about these little things. But it's good they banned it. It is good, but it is like also Weird how it was banned. Like the players got an email but there's no like official posts on Pokemon. like it should be like a little, little short form post on Pokemon hey, this card is banned. Then the Play Pokemon Twitter posts about the. The link to the site letting people know. But it's just the players got this email and now we haven't. We haven't heard. There's no official like source saying that it's banned. Which is like, remember the deal with this collecting information? Yu-Gi-Oh It was like only available in Japan. Right. We had not gotten hard yet. Yu-Gi-Oh we didn't have it yet. But it wasn't officially banned for Worlds. And then so there was. There was a Japanese junior or senior, I think who played it day one but then had to cut it from their deck for day two or something. Yu-Gi-Oh I remember correctly. Like, Yu-Gi-Oh thankfully it's not. It's not that egregious anymore. But it's still like where's like the public? She's like put out a post. Why is the Play Pokemon Twitter not putting out a post and letting everyone know. Like, it's obviously not that big of a deal because there's a grookey. But it's just like it's also not that big of a deal to just put the information out there publicly. Yu-Gi-Oh Well, I wouldn't be surprised if that is like something that's planned to happen and like just the know before you go. Email went out before a post happened. Sure. Like it may be planned and if it wasn't, maybe it will be. I wouldn't be surprised if it's already planned and like something will come out about it more publicly facing. But it is more important for the players to know than the public. Right. Because the players are the ones who are going to be needing this information more so than just public. Right? Yu-Gi-Oh but it's also just like it's going to be like one paragraph on a post on Pokemon that gets retweeted by Playbooks. It can't be that hard to do it all at once. It's true. Like speaking of that, actually something I didn't mention that I did want to bring up because I think it's so egregious. When we were talking about the registration stuff. So last week we had a bonus episode question that we talked about on the main episode because they were like, they were kind of responding to something we had said on the previous episode where like oh like things the information seemed like because of Train. Because we Talked about trainer championships. Like, that's a great website. All the information for all regionals is on that website. But they were like, there's it. Their. Their comment or question. It was more of a statement. Was like, there's still a lack of information going around. And we were like, Yu-Gi-Oh I think we agreed, right? Like, Gaming Gen should be tweeting about the registrations. Play Pokemon should be tweeting about them consistently. And we did see, unlike for Baltimore, Gaming Gen did put out their own tweet about registrations going live. They did put one out for Baltimore. Oh, did they? Yu-Gi-Oh it was literally just an hour before tournament though registration, I think went live. Oh, maybe it was at the time it went live or it was a day before maybe. Oh, okay. So they tweeted at. Yu-Gi-Oh Which is like, it feels like they should tweet when the information becomes available. It's like two weeks before registration goes live usually. Then they should tweet probably a couple hours before registration's about to go live and then retweet their tweet or whatever when registration is live. This time this tweet was an hour after registration went live, which is just like. Yu-Gi-Oh it was already sold out, wasn't it? But it's like not surprising. Yu-Gi-Oh I think I sold out about an hour afterwards. So maybe a couple people slipped in because of the tweet. But like. Yu-Gi-Oh and this is like one of those things that we've been like, we've been saying it's like a problem for years, but it's getting better. But then like these things kind of happen. It just like it feels like something can't go right without something going comedically wrong in the Pokemon space sometimes. But maybe I'm being like overly nitpicky, but this was, I don't know, just kind of seemed egregious for the situation. Also, like this tweet should probably go out like an hour before registration goes live or a couple hours before for. And then do a follow up tweet after that. But. Well, it should go up. Like if someone sees this tweet immediately. Someone sees this tweet immediately when Reg goes live. If the tweet goes out, when Reg goes live, if someone looks at the tweet five minutes later, they can't register anyways. It's too late. Like what is the point of this information going live when registration goes live? There's no point of that. Or there's. There's some point of it, but it's like tweet 30 minutes before registration goes live. Being like registration is about to go live in 30 minutes, that's like way more useful. Or a couple hours, ideally. Well, really like already tweeting out. They should tweet it. Like it should be beforehand, like a few days and then like in intervals leading up to it. Really. There's no reason to not tweet it a couple of times leading up to it. Definitely. I agree. Like, Yu-Gi-Oh like I said, like when the information becomes available a couple weeks beforehand, boom, put out a tweet. Week beforehand, maybe do a reminder tweet two hours before tradition goes live, put out a tweet and then. Right, goes live. One final tweet. Something like that. Or just like a reply or retweet, whatever. Retweet your own tweet. Just. Yu-Gi-Oh silly. It always feels like there's something a little bit silly to go with everything in the Pokemon space. Like this. A bit more card news as well. Besides the cards being banned from the World Championships. Actually, before we talk about this Errata I did there's actually I did want to just talk about like band cards at World specifically in general. You know, we talked about this Tapu Lele promo. You talked about that Petron from a couple years ago. There actually is one other really funny card. I remember being banned a few years ago at 2019 Worlds. Do you remember what it is for? Not the normal reason as well. Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I do remember. And it's Stefan's fault, I think that it probably got banned. Explains. Quiz. Yu-Gi-Oh From your hand, face down in front of you and tell your opponent the name of an attack it has. Your opponent guesses the name of that Pokemon and then you reveal it. If your opponent guessed right, they draw four cards. If they guessed wrong, you draw four cards, return the Pokemon to your hand. This obviously was not a very good or competitive card for those who are not playing back in 2019. But at the World Championships you've got people from 20 plus countries competing speaking. I don't even know how many different. I mean, how many languages is the. The promo card printed in nowadays? It's so many different languages. You've got so many different trainer translators. So the question was posed by Stefan Ivanov. You know, if I put down a card and say its name in French, how is my, you know, opponent from Brazil supposed to know? Like, you know, it's just going to be a free draw. Four, effectively. Obviously this wouldn't be a card that was played still, like, how would it work with the translator? Right. Does the translator tell Them the name of the attack in their language probably, right? Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know. There was just. It's just this question got posed and Pokemon decided we're not going to deal with it and banned the car to the World Championships. It obviously wouldn't have been a problem because no one played it, but I don't know if it still felt a little weird that they banned it, but I guess like, it's like no one's gonna play it. But also, just in case someone does play it, let's just remove the potential for the headache. If someone were like, I mean, I think pretty. I'm pretty sure at that year that World. Someone did play a theme deck at World. So people were trolling. Like I think in day two they played a theme deck. If I'm not. If I'm not mistaken. So there was already some trolling going on. Maybe they would have played a theme deck with 4 Blaine Quiz show if it wasn't banned. To be honest, it's probably good that they just got rid of it because there was no competitive value to the card anyways before someone trolled. Yu-Gi-Oh I found a Poke beach article from back in 2019 about it. An email to Japanese players has revealed that Blaine's quiz show will be banned at Worlds in its side event. A public announcement should be made soon. Update, TPCI has announced. Is this going to link to it? Yep. Due to potential issues it may cause at multilingual tournaments, the newly released supporter card Blaine's quiz Show will not be legal for play at the 2019 World Championships. Oh, I replied to this tweet as well. Yu-Gi-Oh And the the situation Stefan outlined. If I play it using a French card and I announce the name of the attack in front, do I announce it in French or English? If it's in French, unless my opponent speaks French, they probably can't guess the Pokemon. Is this an intended effect of the card? If in English, what if I don't know what the English name of the attack is? Since my card is in French. Also, even if I know the name, what if my opponent doesn't speak English? Say it's a Japanese. And if using translators. There's one major issue. Attack names don't always map one to one between languages. Here's an example. Lily Pup and Gliscor have the same attack Collect, but in French. Lil Pups Collect was translated to collectioneer. Excuse my French here. And Gliscors was translated to collect. I mean that wouldn't be a problem because you just look up the this is a part of the argument that I thought was a little bit silly from Stefan because I remember this. I was like, well, wouldn't they just look up the, like the card in their language and then just say what it is? You don't translate. You don't pick up the French card and translate it. You look up the Portuguese card and tell them the Portuguese name for what would be on the Pokemon. So I don't think it would have been that big of a deal even if one person had rolled up with Blaine's quiz show. Like I think they could have you just like look up the other version of the card and read the attack name there. I remember this. It's probably better they banned it though. Just. Just don't, don't deal with it. Just get rid of it. You don't want someone to just like feel like trolling and then roll up with four blends. Quiz show. Like they had to officially ban the jumbo cards from being played after that one guy rolled up to Naic. Yu-Gi-Oh That was a pretty legendary moment though, for sure. It's so funny that they like, they knew as well that that was like a loophole. Like they would be like, well, they have to let me play with these because it's not against the rules. Well, and then tested the limits. Don't think. I think that person. I think they, they conceded and Tribute after round one. Well, Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh But they just wanted to get away with it. But I'm pretty sure they knew they would be able to get away with it. They were gonna get deck checked after. Let things I have heard have said. This person was going to get deck checked and was probably going to be DQ'd on the account of the cards being incredibly marked due to the fact that they're massive. Yu-Gi-Oh So they were about to be dealt with anyways. But they got away with it for a round though. It's pretty cool. I don't know if you can say they got away with it. They just showed up and Tribute before anything could be done. But you know, didn't they play? I thought they played around. Yu-Gi-Oh I think they showed up and then like haha, he. He put the Pokemon in play. You one-of-one GG went and Tribute Well, I mean they can't attack, so. Yu-Gi-Oh it makes sense. Yu-Gi-Oh they can't do anything. They needed to like commission someone to make jumbo sized sleeves or. Those already exist. Dude. You just have like the Pandora pages that you put in like a notebook or something for school that work. That would be clear. Probably. So that's. That's a no. No in general. Yu-Gi-Oh You'd still get deck checked. The deck check was will catch you. Been a good like bit for like Dragon Shield or something to like collab with them on it and make jumbo size sleeves for them. That would have been pretty funny. I don't know if sleeves exist for jumbo cards. Here you go. It did make for a great post. I like how he's starting the game with just five poke, like five Pokemon already. Because they're all. It's all Pokemon, right? Yu-Gi-Oh There's probably some V Maxes or V Stars in there. I feel like this was V Max V Star era, right? Yu-Gi-Oh I think so. I think it might have been great moment in the Pokemon tcg. Well, another card we did need to talk about here is a card that did receive an official errata, which is Diancie from Stellar Crown set. Came out in September of 2024. So two years later, almost, this card is getting an official errata. The original text was this attack does 40 damage for each special energy attached to all of your opponent's Pokemon. And the new card text will be this attack does 40 damage for each special energy card attached to all of your opponent's Pokemon. So I'm from each special energy to each special energy card. It is weird, but like, there wasn't a. There was a ruling on this already to like clarify that it was supposed to be card, not energy, right? Yu-Gi-Oh Yes. It's weird that they're doing this errata post like so long after that. But I. This is. This is maybe the reason they're doing it because it's coinciding with the new printing of the card. Like maybe the new printing of the card will have the correct text. Like it's like being shipped out of the factories right now or something. So that's why they're making this post to go alongside that. It's definitely possible because they do that with cards. Like they'll update because, you know, Stellar Crown, even though it came out two years ago, I believe is a set that is still in print. So will the newest versions of Diancie have the correct text? That is a question. But I remember forever ago, one of the first big examples I remember of this was Cyrus Prizm Star from Ultra Prizm was mistranslated. Actually, even before that, it was Galvantula from Steam Siege. Right. It was supposed to only target the bench, but the way that the original text came up, it made it so you could like target the Active as well. But you're supposed to only be able to target them in something like that. But they. They did later print versions of this card that had the correct text on them. So there's like, Yu-Gi-Oh this says two of your opponent's benched Pokemon. But I think the original print said 2 of your opponent's Pokemon. Yu-Gi-Oh I think you might be right on that for sure. They did did correct it. I do remember something with the Galvantula. Yu-Gi-Oh It's just so weird that the post is like, why would they not make the post immediately with the ruling and then be like, My only guess is that like, they're the new shipments of the Diances are headed out. So they're like, clarifying if you pick up a new Diancy. The old Diancy does what the new Dancy does. But if you had played this at a tournament, there's already a rule in the Commendium specifying that it only does four damage for each Energy card, right? Yes. Yu-Gi-Oh that's how it's been ruled since the Stellar Crown FAQ back in 2024, whenever this set came out. So it's. It's worked as intended. Nothing is changing. But it's just probably. I mean, I wonder if it's almost just like a continuity thing, just like getting it out there correctly. Like, maybe it should have always said cards or I don't know if this is the first attack effect or like any effect that like specifically doesn't say special energy cards when it means special energy cards. And so they needed to clarify that to keep it just in line. Continuity sake, like I said. And it could have been a thing where it's like, this gets printed and then it gets caught too late in production. And now they need to go through all the processes of making it. It does feel crazy that that would take two years to like go through all the processes of releasing some sort of aata for it. But Yu-Gi-Oh that's what I'm saying. Like, they should just like the. The E post should just literally happen after they. They like, oh, wait, there's a mess up here. Like the rule to clarify it put out the errata post. But waiting two years makes you think that they just had to. It was like, now they're printing ones with the correct words on it. So. But is it because they know that people are pulling out the Diancy at Worlds for the Crestle tech and they want to make sure. Terrible crustal tag. People talk about this as a crustal tech for so long. It's just so bad as A crystal attack does not get the job done. Your opponent can fully play around it. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I guess previously it was better as a crustal tech. Like the new builds destroy this card. The older builds, I don't know, like pre Kangaskan heroescape stuff, I guess it was better, but it was still like a bad tech head tech. Now you know if you're competing at Worlds, how Diancy fully works and you can't use the grookey. Now you can't play physical lead, but you can play Diancy. You can play that. Yu-Gi-Oh Cut the rookies for diances in your festival league deck. That's the solution. That's Azul GG's official advice for the Pokemon TCG World Championships. Yep, that's all I got this time. Yu-Gi-Oh Because the most important, you know, is that when it becomes a print flips, all the pip flops are just like, hanging out, having a good time, and then you evolve and you're just like. You're too good for. Let's see, Piplup here. A poor walker. However, it's strong pride makes it puff up its chest without a care. That's. Actually, Calyrex, in Japan, they're Emperor Pokemon, but in English, they're the High King Pokemon. Is that what this means right here? I'm gonna get it. We'll see. All right, Azul. Well, we'll keep it rolling here and talk about our next topic, which is the Pokemon TCG Live developers put out a letter to the community. There also was patch notes. There's really not much to talk about within the patch notes. Is there anything you want to Bring them up again real fast. I don't think there is, but let's take a quick peek. New study season, regionals campaign. So I mean they are kind of trying to link it with like upcoming competitive season, which is cool, right? Oops. I need to share it on the. It's kind of like bug fixes mostly, which is good to see. But like, Yu-Gi-Oh obviously like we want to see. BTC Live is still missing a lot of quality of life stuff. Big mentions of like fixing major. Major like disconnect issues and stuff like that. But the bugs theoretically lead to some of that. So fixing. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't think any of these things. Sometimes you read these like car. A lot of these fixes that happen are interactions that we don't see in the standard format but happen in expanded sometimes, which is a playable format in some capacity. On TCG Live, there's the casual expanded format that does not have all of the cards. I don't even know how far back it goes up to this point. I know a lot of people like expanded. Honestly, that might have been one of the biggest mistakes they made was trying to implement expanded as soon as they did. And then even I feel like they made some initial promises they have not kept up to this point in terms of the timeline for when they wanted expanded to be like, maybe they didn't like promise, but they were like, you know, we'll be. They've. I think I've maybe they've said stuff like, you know, expand will be coming in the future. But the future has been. That was like four years ago or whatever, right at this point. So it's like what is the future? But it's like that might have been one of the biggest mistakes they made was even trying to put any expanded stuff in the game. They should have like made sure standard was working properly and get everything flowing there. And then I think they got in over their head maybe with like trying to get that far ahead with expanded. Like for example here fixed an issue where Delmize's vengeful Anchor attack ignored effects that remove abilities from Pokemon in the discard pile. Right. So Dhelmize, it does more damage for each of your Pokemon in the discard pile that have the hide and sneak ability. But Garbo Toxin in Expanded removes the ability of Pokemon in the discard pile. So they don't have the hide and sneak ability anymore. True. The ultimate counter and the. And the real question is who cares? Stop fixing expanded and let's fork on some of the standard stuff first. Let's get standard fully operational. Let's get everything in a good spot there. Just shut it down. Shut down expanded. Like, why is this even there? Is there. Is there any effect in standard that removes the abilities in play or like in the discard pile of stuff? Not that I'm aware of. There'll be some weird thing if there's even anything, like crazy. Yu-Gi-Oh Some random stage 2 or something. Only while it's active. I don't know. I don't think so. But Yu-Gi-Oh nothing really Zebra crazy in the patch notes, but Azul did want to talk a little bit about the letter to the community. You said someone in your chat kind of brought some of this end of stuff in this, like kind of end caption here. Yu-Gi-Oh To your attention. Most of this stuff is, you know, this is like what they do. Every update they have a little letter usually that talks about just the stuff that's coming up. Right. Every once in a while they'll communicate something a little bit further in one of these about like just overall plans with the game or scope, outlook, whatever they're working on. This is talking about stuff with regionals around the corner. Pokemon TCG Live is here to help you train 2026 fall study season. So there's definitely, I feel like an emphasis on this as like a tool alongside competitive players, like pushing players from TCG Live to possibly, you know what the real competitive circuit looks like, right? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh definitely. So it's good to see that. Also, like, they're doing a new. They mentioned a new game, but do they need. The current game board is so bad. Like. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't know how it passed. Was it Q A? Is that what it's called? Right. Quality assurance. Yu-Gi-Oh Qxqa, not Q and A. That's questions. It's pretty. It's like pretty. Agreed. It's like so jarring and like, what was the. What was a good word that I put to it the other day? It's just loud. Jarring. It's just like distracting. Like it's. It should just be a background. Right? Like. But it's. It's pretty bad. It's pretty bad. I don't know that. That kind of stuff's kind of. That's like the annoying stuff. It's like with the gaming gen thing, right? It's like we need more. We need more sources of information out there. And gaming gen tweets about the registration, but they do it an hour late. It's like we want PTC's life to be better. New game boards, the Idea of new game boards is cool. And then they give us this one, and it's just like, dude, this is so bad. Like, this is not good. Like, they have added an accessibility setting that allows you to turn off card and gameplay effects to optimize your own play experience. So if you ever have any of those random effects that are annoying, make a weird, bad sound effect that you don't like hearing, you could just go turn them all off now. That's cool as an option to have for sure. I don't know if it, like, I wonder if that, like, there's a current bug in the game where if you use. If you attack with, like, Absol or Annihilate, the animation and sound effect that it does for the attack, it's added to your deck. So every time you look at your deck, it makes the animation and the sound. I wonder if that would get rid of that so I don't have to, like, reset my game every single time. And it's not. It sticks in your game after the match. So, like, you have to reset your client to get rid of it. Oh, my gosh. I have not experienced that. Maybe. Maybe I didn't read all the bugs, because I don't. I mean, there's so many bugs, and some of them are expanded. I actually read. Maybe that's one they're fixing. I actually don't know. That could be one they're fixing. It's only when you attack with Absol or Annihilate. That's it. Or actually, it's probably whatever you have an attack that says knock out your opponent's active Pokemon. That's what it's probably tied to, actually. So this would also get rid of, like, even stuff like the. I imagine, like the effect that's on item cards after you attack with Ichy Pollen, right? Yu-Gi-Oh I would assume so. I actually haven't tested. Oh, no, this is coming out. So I wouldn't have tested this yet. Yu-Gi-Oh So, I mean, Yu-Gi-Oh I didn't play TCG Live today, but theoretically that's in effect now. I think it is in effect now, Yu-Gi-Oh Or is this coming with the update for. It says have been added. Okay, so that must be with the update that was today then, or. Yu-Gi-Oh yesterday, for people who are listening. But this last segment here, the 2027 championship season and more fast approaching approaching with regionals right around the corner. Make use of all of these updates to give you a competitive edge. I feel like this update is going to be big for competitive stuff, which makes me think. I don't want to, like, say for sure. I know they're aware that people want a leaderboard, and I'm sure they're working on it. The question with TCG Live is not will it get better? It's when will it get better? My guess would be there will be a leaderboard with the release of this. That would be my guess because it seems like they're like this update. It seems to be. They talk a lot about regionals and preparing for regionals, and this last little bit here, I feel like, leans into that as well. So, like, what more could we have? And the. The answer that would be a better rank system, which the. Oh, like the major thing to improve the rank system right now is a leaderboard. So that would be my hope that on this on September 15th update, there will also be the release of. Theoretically, the 30th anniversary set will come with this update as well. But Yu-Gi-Oh that's what my first take was. When I read this, I was like, dude, it's literally just the reveal of 30th celebration, which is like, that's when 30 celebration gets added to the game. Which is. Could be translated as like the biggest set, but it's like, not really big for competitive, but like. But they say one of our biggest. They say one of our biggest updates yet. I feel like that means for TCG Live, not for a set release. Like, those are routine. Set releases aren't like, big updates. They're expected updates. Right. It would be so cool for them to add the leaderboard. If they added the leaderboard. Are you. Would you do like a rank one grind? Yu-Gi-Oh I've already thought about doing, like, turning some of my streams into, like, you know, climbing to 2k Elo or something like that. But it's way cooler when you have, like, a leaderboard to look at and you can, like, see yourself against who you're up against on the leaderboard and comparing. Also, I might wait until rotation to start doing that kind of stuff because, oh, my God, the idea of grinding this format like that is not very enticing. You know what? Why not bring back the Dunsparce? Itchy Pollen. Ten cards in hand, and Austin draws a fighting gong that he can't play. Gg. Yu-Gi-Oh Insane. Zebra cool, man. That's like the. I mean, that's the problem with Dragon Ball. Aggressive decks. Like, can't feel good about being aggressive. Like, it just doesn't feel that good to be aggressive in the current metagame. And there's no. There's not enough decks on Dragon Ball's level that, like, do it all decks. Like Zork's the next closest do it all deck that we have, but it's just not as good as Dragon Ball. Very cool. Very chill. I look forward to seeing that exact line play out at the Pokemon TCG World Championships in just a couple weeks. I probably will multiple, many times on stream as well. It'll happen. It'll be sad if that's like, the finals, though. So hopefully. Hammer Stamp, shake my hand. I hope the finals is good. That'd be really sad if this is. If games like that were the finals. Although maybe it would entice the Pokemon company to ban Dragon Ball. Maybe they'd be like, you know what? This. This was garbage. Like, this is bad. Let's get this guy out of here. Maybe it's what we need, to be honest. Maybe. Honestly, maybe that is what we need. Yu-Gi-Oh It would be unfortunate for First Worlds to happen in an arena like that and the finals to be kind of lame. But maybe the VGC finals is good and that kind of makes up for the TCG Masters finals. Like, going this route. I'm excited for the Unite Finals, to be honest. The Unite finals is always Zebra cool. I've never really watched many mobas. I know Zools like much more into esports and so has like seen. Yu-Gi-Oh a lot more of those competitive matches. But like it was really fun to watch. Unite last year in the. Was the smaller arena, the bigger arena. This year be pretty cool. It's gonna be pretty crazy. I'm pretty sure it's like sold out. Like whatever space they had, I'm pretty sure it's sold out. So Yu-Gi-Oh I'm gonna be interested if like a lot of times for. They don't have all the seats open for sure. Like that's what I was gonna wonder. Yu-Gi-Oh it's definitely more limited for concerts and stuff. A lot of times at arenas like that they don't open up the like upper. Upper Deck. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I don't. I wonder if they will have behind like the bat. Like if it's. They would only have the seats that are front facing the stage. So like the stuff behind the stage, those seats would not be open. Yu-Gi-Oh But this is probably gonna be different for this. It probably will be like the full circle. It just might be the full lower circle. I don't know. I don't know for sure though. I'm not. I'm not sure. Like I said, I haven't even seen like a. I'm not leaking. I'm not leaking. Please don't come for me, Mr. Big Pete. Yu-Gi-Oh but. Yu-Gi-Oh so I'm excited for. I want. But like, let's see what they say. This is one of their biggest updates yet. They've had a couple big ones. We'll see how this one holds up. I hope they're, you know, not over hyping it. I hope there's more to be done to the rank ladder and like the next step is to add a leaderboard. Hopefully it's viewable in game as well. That would be really cool. See the leaderboard in game. So, Yu-Gi-Oh I'm. They got me excited for this update happening. To be honest, like after reading that letter. They got me excited. I'm kind of excited because like you don't know better by now. I'm excited, man. I'm excited for this update. Hopefully it's big. I'm also having some. I don't think. Oh, wait, I gotta be more positive. That's gonna be like a leaning negative doc on the. The little chart from that guy a couple weeks ago. Like. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh gotta be more positive here. We gotta get our blue dots up. Gotta get the blue dots up. So I'm excited for that and also have some time away from TCG Live. I don't think I'd mentioned this at all, but I'll be going away to Japan right after World, so I one-of-one even be around for like two or three weeks here in a row. But I'll be back in time for a big update. First regional of the year, stuff like that. And the 30th anniversary set. So back in time for everything. I'm excited for. I'm excited for the update. I'm excited for it. I'm hopeful. Gotta be positive. Well, honestly, if it's gonna be I Dude, I need to grind up to master. I haven't played too much this leaderboard cycle. I need to get back up to master ball so that I don't get reset all the way to like quick ball or whatever. If they're gonna add ranked ladder like or a leaderboard, I should Sepia.
