Episode 41: Jersey #'d Cards

All right, how's it going everyone? Welcome to Hangout 41 and we're, we're out Joe tonight. So we're a couple minutes late because I had to struggle through figuring out how to get this live on YouTube. But tonight we are talking about Jersey number cards. So kind of why we collect them, maybe share off a couple cards and just, just talk about Jersey number cards and, and all that that entails. So thanks for joining us tonight and should we just get going with it or did you actually. Yeah, let's pass it over to you Steve first and just get a little update from you and you pick up. Yeah, I thought so. In the mail today was. It's, it's been exactly a week since I was snipe bidding while we were recording last week. So I got the card in today. So Jarrett. So this is a one of one black laser Garner SWNBA card. So Brie Jones is currently, well, she's currently injured but she's a center for the Atlanta Dream, one of the better teams in the league and can't really see the laser effect, but just a nice dynamic when these laser cards have a nice action photo. I just, I really love them. I kind of wish it was a base card, not a sticker auto, but so I got that in today and of course once you get the 101, what do you have to do? You might as well chase the rainbow, right? So after I paid for it last week when we got off offline, I, I checked the rainbow. It's only nine cards. So I'm gonna, gonna go after that and had a little frustrating issue with an ebay seller who listed one of the parallels wrong and then gave me a hard time about whether or not he's going to refund it or not. But yeah, nine card rainbow, so. And all the other ones are cheap. I think I picked up the gold out of ten for like 15 bucks or something. So it'll be a cheap, fun little rainbow to chase but always nice to get a good looking 101 in. So that's my hobby update and then I'll be mildly distracting because I get a 55 card consignment submission with MC Sports that's ending between now and in, you know, an hour and a half from now. So hopefully that goes well and I'll have some, some family funds gonna pull some money out of that, you know, put into the family fun account for the summer. Then you know, maybe get off to a card show or something this summer with it. But we'll, we'll see what happens. So I'll update you all on that on that next week. I know Ryan, you've used them too and it's a, it's a pretty good service. So yeah, we'll see those. Well, that's too bad we don't have Joey tonight because that laser, he would be pretty excited about that. He'd be hid me pants off for that laser. Yeah, loves those other. Ryan, what's going on in your world? Anything? Yeah, you know, it's funny, we're talking about jersey numbered cards. I had just recently picked this one up. It's a Brandon Pabski. It's the Don Russ die cut. It's numbered to 25. It is number two of 25. It wasn't listed as such, but got it for pretty inexpensive. But over to your point of jersey numbered cards that have rainbows, this is a Dennis Johnson and I had the three of three and I just recently got the three of six. But to your point, I also got the one of one and I have a few different one of ones of his. So I'm going for the full rainbow on a couple different of his leaf sets and love the rainbows, love the jersey numbered cards. It is funny that there's only seven different parallels in this one and his jersey number is three. So a bunch of them are going to have different parallel variations of his jersey number which I'm just grabbing up as I'm seeing him come across the ebay channel. Yeah, those jumbo leaf patches are very underrated. I love those. And you've shared some from that set a few times. I like them every time in that the, that Donner's die cut, the silver's out of 75 and the gold's out of 25. I, I think that's a sneaky, fun little parallel to Chase. I've done, I've done the out of 75 team sets for the Celtics each year that they had it. They, they look, they're paying the butt to get into a penny sleeve or, or a binder if you guys are listening. I mean there's a bunch of just jagged corners on them. But it's a really cool die cut design. I like that a lot. Ryan. I'm a little different than you guys collect too, because when I, when I saw how great that was when it was, you know, when it was his rookie year, I started going after a bunch of them. Now I have I think four or five. So I've got, I've got like 20% of the of the whole run of those. And I just love being able to grab up all of those. Yeah, that's cool. I do like those Leaf. There's, like, certain designs that really work for Leaf. Some of their designs are just, you know, what did you. Yeah, I think we talked about it one time. It was. Some players had a jersey, Other players had, like, nothing. And, you know, it's like maybe four little patch windows. And it's all just kind of random. There's no cohesiveness to it. And it's like. It's a cool card, but why would I want that? This looks odd, but yeah, they do it. When they do a good job, it works out. So I do have a couple of the Leaf patches, too, that I really like. I did get one card in this week. It's this J.R. smith from 0607. Tops chrome black. And these are out of 50. And I've been looking for this one forever. Are these out of 50? Oh, sorry. They're out of 99. But anyway, that completes the Nuggets team run for that year finally. And I think I'm two cards away from all the black refractors from all years. I completed the golds that was like two years ago. And now kind of working on these and then probably go after Bass. Surprisingly. Haven't done bass yet. The. The. A combo of base of just like the base silver, the black and the gold, I think is just like the perfect balance. Yeah, blacks just look so nice. So nice pickup on that. Yeah. I decided that one of my binders that has, like, from Tops finest refractors all the way to like, the end of Tops chrome and all that kind of stuff. I just jammed it all in one binder that's going to turn into all chrome because I have enough to actually fill a whole, like, binder with them. Crazy enough. So that's the next one of my favorite. Oh, sorry. No, you're good. I was just gonna say one of my favorite binder pages is because I do more like the player versus the team is. I have the year the Celtics had the three big rookies. Tony Allen, Delonte west, and Al Jefferson. I have the in. In a. In, you know, row by row, I have their base. They're silver, they're black, and they're golds. All, you know, pl. So it's like four columns, three players, and it just looks perfect. I just love kind of balancing stuff like that. So. Yeah, yeah, definitely. It's. That's kind of one of my big chases is just refractor runs from the tops era, when tops was good, but. All right, cool. Well, do you guys want to get started on some Jersey number stuff? I don't know how we could get going with it. We want to just start with showing awesome stuff, and I can. I can let you, you know, check out your auction, Steve, and we can just start in if you want. Well, let's have a little discussion and let's. Let's. So I'll. I'm gonna pose a few questions. I didn't tell you guys this in advance, but I just want to. What's. What's. What's the appeal of a Jersey number card? Fiji. What do you guys find enjoyable about it? How much, like, how aggressively did you chase it? So will you pay a premium for it? You know, where do they. Where do they fit in your PC? So just whoever, whichever Ryan wants to go first. And I'll finish up after you guys chat a little bit, but just tell a little bit about. About your appreciation for Jersey numbered cards. Okay. Yeah, I. I can start since I was off mute. Anyway. It's just one of those things, I think when you've been collecting for a while, you try to find something that's unique, try to find something that you can go after that's kind of fun to chase. And so I don't know, I'll pick out a random one here from like, my Gary Harris PC. Like this one, for example. This is just an ugly sticker auto, but the fact that it was Jersey numbered kind of appealed to me, so I grabbed it. And like, a lot of the stuff, this is a. What is this? Cornerstones or something like that. Probably from like 2019, but it makes your kind of boring. Maybe parallels that you would never care about or just a card that you maybe never collect like that. Like, I don't really collect a whole ton of sticker autos, but it gives you that kind of extra chase. So you end up picking up stuff and picking up things from sets just because it's Jersey numbered. And it's kind of more about the chase and, like, finding it. I find myself a lot of times, like, looking into ebay auction quickly, like, zooming in on the back of the card or the front wherever the serial number is at. Like, let me just see if that's Jersey numbered and then that's a reason to pick it up. Because honestly, for Harris, at this point, I've got most of the, you know, quote unquote big cards that I want, and he hasn't played with Nuggets since 2019. So I'll just go back in time and see like, okay, well, this set came out. Was it Jersey, you know, was it numbered enough to have his jersey number that you're talking about? He's Jersey number is 14, so is it out of 99 or out of 25, whatever. And I can actually find his jersey number and then just sit there on ebay for an hour and see if I can find one, you know. Yeah, that's kind of, I don't know my initial thoughts on it. What do you think, Ryan? I just like stumbling across them. I don't specifically look for myself, but as soon as I see that card is numbered, I always find myself looking at that serial number. It is that kind of attraction of building out rarity where rarity didn't exist prior. Right. I wasn't looking for jersey numbered cards back in like oh, three. Right. I'm sure. But stumbling across them makes it all the more valuable. I love those sets that have the stuff that's numbered up to the Jersey number. Um, you had talked about, you had talked about something previously of, of other inserts that were like up to a Jersey number. And I think that stuff is just super rare, super special. And you know, when it hits you, you get it. Right. And, and it doesn't matter if anybody else gets it because by the time people come around to realize it, it's not for sale. Yeah, great point. Yeah. And, and I collect ways says if I have the same card on a different serial and then the jersey number pops up, I usually try to upgrade. If I don't have a duplicate yet and the jersey number is available, I'm more willing to pay a premium. And I kind of feel that way too. It's like maybe a card that you really loved, but you've never seen the Jersey number version of it and maybe you never thought about it when you're collecting it and then one pops up. That could definitely be like a, a chase card for you. And I, I feel that I will pay up a little bit for them, but the guys I'm collecting really aren't going for that much more. Like mainly my jersey number. PC is Gary Harris and Deno Calnari. So people are like going heavy after that stuff, so I don't really have to worry about it, but I will pay a little bit more. Like, you know, something like this. Like I probably am not gonna pick this up in general, but it's. That's like a dollar card to me. But maybe it's a $5 card. If it has the jersey number. You know, what do you think LeBron James second best rookie card is, right? His best rookie card has to be the logo Man 101 from Exquisite. His second best all time rookie card has to be the gold of exquisite. Numbered to 23 out of 23. So it's double jersey hard and it's this close to being a logo man. It's just not. Yeah, I think in to your point on that kind of stuff, when it gets to that level like a LeBron James and you have. I was going to mention this later in the show, but it's kind of like an OCD thing to go after these certain like jersey numbers. And we'll talk about the book and stuff too. I know Steve, you had some commentary on that, but it is a little bit, you know, we're getting down to the nitty gritty of being a little bit OCD collecting this kind of stuff. So when you're really focusing on like a jersey number, you know, you bring out a. The crowd of people that heavily collect somebody like LeBron James. You're going to bring those people out and they're going to have to have that. So you can see that again, like a crazy premium. You saw that looks like we got. Sorry. You saw that gold. Jokic go for like 375,000 or something. Something crazy. What people didn't talk about was that was that was his jersey number from summer league. So on jersey it's number six, I think. And I think that one's was six out of ten. So that's. That really is going to be, you know, the only jersey numbered card he's gonna have for his gold. His gold. So did that actually push it up a little bit, you think? I didn't know that at all in my head. It had to have, right? I mean, yeah, I don't know. I don't know what the other guy bidding who lost was thinking. We got Aaron joining us. How's it going, man? Hey guys. Doing good. How are you guys? Good, good. We're just talking about weird jersey number collecting, why we do it. Yeah, thanks for joining us. You have any thoughts on what we were talking about there? Did you catch kind of the last little bit we were talking? Yeah, I caught the last little bit, yeah. Just in terms of my own jersey number collecting, the other. Ryan was just saying the exquisite gold, the probably my number one wanted card for Hakeem Warwick, who is near and dear to my heart, one of my player pieces is his exquisite gold jersey numbered just there is something a little extra special about when it's numbered to the jersey number, Getting that jersey number. There was. There was one I showed on. On Instagram earlier today. I have it here too, where he. This is Jeremy Grant. So he was draft pick number 39. He chose jersey number 39 for his. For his rookie year. And then this is the 39 copy of the. Of the Silhouette. And actually I had the. Or I still have. I have the prime version of that, which is numbered out of 25. And then when that popped up, I did pay a little extra probably for it just because it was that. And there was that little extra bit of like there's a story behind why he picked that jersey number. And there's something that's just so satisfying about the inscription of 39 right next to the serial number 39. Yeah. A couple. Couple cool things today. Is that still his number or was that just what he had in his rookie year? Yeah, just what he had his rookie year. Has. He's bounced around. I think he's number nine now, although. Is he. He's been a couple different numbers as he's bounced around it. But that was only his jersey number for his rookie year. Okay. Yeah. That's kind of a different aspect to doing it. Kind of representing a draft pick or some jersey that they wore, maybe not on the team that's represented. I think both of the guys that I collect, both Gary Harris and Danilo Gallonari, they pretty much had the same numbers throughout their career. But I guess that's. That's kind of an interesting point to bring up. Do you guys go after a jersey number of the previous team or when they move to the next team, would you want them in that jersey that they're depicted in the card or does it. You know, it doesn't matter for me. I'm a. I'm a. I draw a hard line that the jury. If I'm getting a jersey numbered serial, like the serial numbers jersey numbered, it has to match the. The jersey the player is wearing on the card. Right. So like. And seeing Aaron here, you know, as a collegiate fan, reminds me that one of my. Honestly, one of my top two or three biggest J. Crowder chases is he only has one collegiate jersey numbered card. And it's from the year that they did exquisite during the flare retro days. So 2012, 13. And the base version of that is high enough that it captures the jersey. It would Capture jersey number 32. I think the base version that autos out of 99 or 199 and it's his only if I had that. So Jay Crowder was number 32 in college, got drafted by the Mavs. He went number nine. And then when he got traded to the Celtics and then up and through the rest of his NBA career, he was number 99. So I have a 99 out of, you know, X jersey number card for every one of his NBA teams. I've got a couple nine out of, you know, X Dallas mouse cards. So to. To finish the run of his career of jersey now. But I need that. But for me, it's a one on one. Right. It's like the only version. But like, I have no use of getting a 32 out of 99 mavs card because that was his college number. If I don't have any use of getting a 9 out of 27 Celtics card because that was his Mavs number. So that. That doesn't do much for me. Yeah, I actually have a weird. So. So Garner actually did have a different jersey number on the Bucks, which is the last team he played for. So this one right here, this is an odd card though because it shows Bucks as the team. He's actually in a Pistons jersey. So he was wearing number eight. So I did pick up the number eight out of that one. And I think that kind of works. But that's kind of one of those weird outliers where, you know, Panini was just lazy. Well, that you probably didn't even have a. He did. He played maybe a couple games for him at that point. So. But yeah, I like your idea, Steve, where if they're in the jersey on the card depicted, even if they're on another team, that's kind of how I view it is like, okay, he's in that number eight jersey. So that's the one I'm picking up. I mean, I'd rather what Panini did with that Frankenstein card than whatever fanatics is doing these days with players still on the rosters from a whole year ago and we're in the NBA Finals. Yeah. Yeah. Didn't Crowder have a card in this year's Chrome or something, Steve? He's in hoops. He's in hoops on. On Kings or something, wasn't it? Yeah. Really recognizing those nine games he played back in 2024. That's just laziness. Cool. Yeah. Any thoughts on that? On that? Ryan? Do you. I know you said you're kind of more or less. If they show up, would you ever specifically go after them or like a big card of like a player you collect or is it just more when they show up? You're. You're seeing that and going after it. At that point, I would. And, and I would switch it up even more than that. I love it when I can find like a Larry Bird autograph. Three out of three or patch of three out of three. Right. Because that's just a different version of a, of a jersey number. And I'm from California. Yeah, I know, I know. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm. I'm from California and I found this and I loved it. And I'm sure it won't even come through. And I just got it recently. But the, the serial number is 4 out of 20. And when I came across that, it was just perfect. And you know, that card is from 2002 and I just came across it on ebay and I got it for $11. And it's finding 25 year old gems like that for so inexpensive of your, you know, primary players. So crazy. Yeah, I like this. Tony Bati autographics. Right? And they're hand numbered. They're back in 90. I think it's 98. 99. Yep. Yeah. So I didn't even realize it was the Jersey number is 4 out of 100. And then a buddy of mine came over and we were looking through some cards and stuff. He's like, oh, you got the jersey number of this? I'm like, I didn't even realize. Oh, that's cool. But yeah, it's kind of fun to find stuff like that. You know, that autographic set is legendary. I was able to pull the Carl Malone sentry Marks hand number to 25. It was the most expensive card I had ever sold and probably the only card I ever regret selling because it was just beautiful. So beautiful. Is that from that 98, 99 set? Yeah, because then they hand number some of those. Some, they were at a 99 or 100 or something like that. But then they were like a ink variation. Is that, is that the one? That's right. Variation. The black was out, I think out of 100. And the blue variation was out of 25. Man, I had almost that team set. And it might have been the that year or the year prior. No, it was that year. And this guy was like going after the entire set of century marks. Will you sell me your nuggets? And it took him like six months to finally convince me because he offered like triple what they were worth. And then he ended up just like selling the whole set a year later. And I was bummed. So I have like one now. Yeah, I was like, fine, man. Yeah. Okay, triple the price. And now like, if you. They rarely show up anymore. And if I do find them, they're probably worth triple the price back then or quadruple even. Oh, well, right on. You guys, I know have some cards to show off, but I guess we could go into some. Some of the sets that aren't specifically jersey numbered. Steven, you and I talked about this. Like, for example, these are the immaculate. What were these number pieces? Is that what they called them? So this. Yeah, they just call them jersey number. I forget the. Yeah. Immaculate numbers or something like that. Yeah, I can't remember exactly what they called them. This is not the eight out of eight. That would be cool. But this is up to Gallinari's jersey number. So this is, I believe, seven out of eight. But it. They did do those over the years. And then I know you have one of these two, Steve. But the status parallels, which are in all kinds of different sets, but this one in particular out of Don Russ, this is a 1516 of Gary Harris. So the status was a particular parallel. And then you had the aspirations. So the status was up to the jersey number for the player. And then aspirations. Was the rest of it up to 99 or 100, something like that? Yeah, up to 100. So like. So I gotta. I got a bunch of stats. I'm not gonna take them all out of the binders, but I do have like, I gotta. One of my favorite cards in the Crowder collection is. So I have his 99 out of 99. This is. I don't. They switched up between calling it status and aspirations. So his other one, his mirror version of that is a one on one card, unfortunately. And I've never seen a pop up. But one of my favorite jersey numbered cards in my collection is. I don't know, Ryan, you might have brought this up or maybe it was. Well, I. I was gonna say other. So one of the. Ryan's brought it up, but using it as a way to organize your collection a little bit. One of the things I started doing when Panini really started to mass produce stuff. So I was a big Jalen Brown collector. So we're talking 2016-2017-2018-2019 stuff was just being cranked out higher and higher. I start got to a point where I would only pick up Jalen Brown jersey numbered cards and I wouldn't pay a huge premium for them, but it was just a way to like focus my collection because you. You can't Collect it. All right? I mean you can't go Pokemon on and collect it all. So one of my favorite pairings that I ever put together and I still have it in my binder is I have the 7 out of 7 and the 7 out of 93. Status and aspiration pairing from the only year that he was in status. Like stuff like that I just think is extra cool. And I've sold them. I can show off a few Jalen Brown cards in a second. But yeah, there was a time where like I just cleared out all the stuff I had unless it was jersey numbered. So I had some like nice jersey numbered rookies. I had some nice jersey number patches, autos, and that was just how it would focus. And like the other day on my Instagram I showed a binder page of Lexi Brown cards. She's an NBA player, she's the daughter D. Brown. And the same thing, like she's not a high profile player. I just like collecting her stuff. But I'm not gonna go buy every select card because there's a million parallels on three, three different tiers. So what I do is like if a jersey numbered card pops up, I'll buy that and then that's the only thing I collect of her. So sometimes I'll use it as a way of just like narrowing down my focus or organizing my collection a little bit. But that, that status aspirations Jalen Brown. Those are two cards and I actually have the full rainbow. But those are two cards that will be the very, very last cards I have a move or probably my kids will have to deal with those. That's some of my favorite stuff. Yeah, that's kind of what I was talking about where I'm not really chasing a whole ton of Gary Harris anymore because I just have a ton of it. But when something pops up random, you know, some low end card or something like that, you know, I can pull out an infinite amount of them over here. You know, this is like a mojo that already had this exact card. I think this is 1819 prison mojo. But you know, the jersey number popped up and I was like, okay, I'll, I'll, I'll grab that one and then that'll probably replace the other one I got in the binder or something like that. But yeah, it's just, it's a way to like keep keep going. Collecting Harris and shout out to, to Zach because I wanted to highlight his comment. He's actually helped me pick up some really cool Gary Harris that showed up on Card hobby recently. He says, I Like it. When you can get like an example Jersey Number of 25 and the card is serial number 25 out of 25. I love those cards. I have been Simmons with those numbers. And that's actually kind of cool. Like if it just ends up being that way. So it's not like something like the immaculate or the status or they number it up to the jersey number, but it just ends up being that your players, you know, the end of the serial number run or something. That's pretty cool. And let's see, we got. I collect. Wade, he's got another thought here. He said, how about immaculate jumbo patches? Should the patch depicting the number of the player carry more weight than a jersey number of the same series, but it doesn't showcase the number of the player? I don't know. What are you guys thoughts on that? I think what he's saying there is so something like the immaculate number set, where it's actually up to the jersey number of the player. He's talking more about if it's just regular run, but a jersey number. And I think it. It probably just depends on the set and the player. If it's like a desirable set or maybe a rookie. I would imagine that that would weigh more on like the desire for somebody to want it. I mean, for me, it's like the stuff where, I mean, we've got. You look at any one product and you've got 100 different parallels that are numbered maybe these days. And so for me, there's not as much appeal for a jersey numbered, you know, Topps, chrome, magenta, whatever from this year, as opposed to something from more like the early 2000s or something like that. And so to me, that's where there's a little extra special. And then like there's kind of just tears of specialness to me of if there's a jersey number theme to the card, it means a little bit more to me to have the jersey number than it does for a random card. And then if there's only one parallel or two parallels in a set, it means a little bit more to me than if there's 10 or 20 or 50. So there's kind of just tears to me where I'll go out of my way for something that's jersey number themed. And I often don't for something that is a little more run of the mill. I think true rarity matters. So I think when you can actively say how many serial numbered cards there are in that specific run or that specific set, I think even when you over print product. And when you do crazy stuff like they've done in Panini over the last few years, they've still had those gem pieces of product that were really low numbered, that were really short printed. They came up with the concept of super short printed. Right. I never heard of SSP before Panini came around because they didn't want to number all their parallels. They wanted some stuff to be like secret menu, you know, short print type stuff. So I love, I love that type of stuff. And anytime I can grab, you know, true rookies that are, you know, low numbered, I think I'm all the better for it. And I know that stuff's not going to come around because they only get one rook a year and they're only going to have one rookie year with so many numbered cards. Yeah, that's kind of where that chase comes in for me. For somebody like Gary Harris, like I've never seen his RPA before. The number 14 of it, you know, the national treasures. Likewise there's like an out of 25 version which I have 2 of or 3 of or something like that. Just you know, going after him all these years. Never seen that one either. So that kind of stuff is kind of special. And I, I guess that leads me in to just show off a couple here real quick. But this is a rookie year Harris. This is the select courtside and this is the copper. And this one is jersey numbered. That's out of 49. But then I was lucky to find this tie dye prism and that one's out of 14 two. So I, I do feel like the rookie year stuff is more desirable and maybe for more people it's more desirable. It kind of feels that way because it feels more special than like a fourth or fifth year card of some random set that maybe doesn't matter as much. But you guys have anything like that that you're. So I'll share a cool rookie card. Now that we're talking about. I, I might disagree with that, Ryan. Right. And not, I think we don't have the answer to this, but I would venture to guess that in today's hobby and for most collectors, whether you're, you know, more of the investor side or more of the sticking and binder and own it forever and that jersey numbered stuff still holds like low weight. Right. So, you know, it's the right set, it's the right parallel. The rookie card is going to be more valuable in third year. I have cards like I have, I can picture, I don't even know what year it's one of his Clippers years, so probably 15, 16 select purple die cut something or other Paul Pierce that I bought simply because it was jersey numbered, right? So hey cool, this is like a fun little niche card to, to add to my collection. I would never pick that up so that without the jersey number that card's valued like a quarter to me. But I probably paid three bucks for it, right? So like I think on the markup the jersey number stuff for the, the non collectible cards might actually have more of a a value to it than it would like a nice even a Gary hat. I mean those tie dye courtside, especially from that year of selector, very collectible. And yes the jersey number adds a nice premium to it. But I bet all 25 of those cards would still sell, right? You know what I'm saying? Whereas like a fifth year slack parallel might not. But you were bringing up and there's no way this is, this isn't a case card. So we're not gonna see the Jared's number I don't think on my crappy camera. But you were bringing up rookie cards. And this is a jersey number card I had no idea that I owned until I was organizing my stuff a few years ago. And I love when you can find a jersey number card from a high print run, right? So when I was talking about Lexi Brown, Alexi, she's jersey number four. So four, four out of five, that's like you get five one out of fifth of the print runs gonna be jersey numbered, right? So this is from. I don't even Bowman signatures. So this is gonna be 03 04. So Kendrick Perkins, I guess Jersey rookie auto thingy. It's jersey numbered 43 out of 1238. And I honestly had no idea like I didn't buy this because it was jersey now, but I just bought it when I was picking up autos of Celtics championship team. But like such an oddball set and to have a jersey number that's out of over 1200 to me is, is a lot cooler than like I said out of five or something because it's. They're all one on ones, right. And I, I don't mean them as far as they should be valued like one on ones. But there's only one jersey number in each print run. But to have it be out of, you know, one out of 1200 is a much cooler thing for me. I didn't have enough time to pull out cards because I was chasing kids around for bedtime. But I do have a couple press Pass ones like we were saying of like out of 999. And I have the jersey number and it is like a little extra cool when it's that. That big of a print run. And you have those. Sure, yeah. Whereas like contrast that like. And I'll just run through these real quick because we're talking rookie cards. Like my Jalen Brown stuff. I mean the stuff that I kept is all game used patches. These are all the jersey numbers. Like this is out of 10, this is out of 75. You know, we got another one out of 10 and one more out of 10. Right. So again, like very cool cards. I kept them because a, they're good. They're really nice game one patches. This, this immaculate set's one of my favorites. It's hollow foil, but it wasn't hard to find those. Whereas I have an auto that I didn't bring down. That's out of 225. Right. So Jalen Brown on card, rookie auto out of 225. I found the jersey number. That to me is a lot, a lot harder for a chase. So those are, those press passes are super cool, Aaron, because an obscure product like that stuff didn't all get ripped and it's. If it did, it's sitting in some like shop at home boxing somewhere. Right. So. And the guys I have are just no names. They got one, one or two years in the league and they're gone. That was actually going to be my comment about Perkins is I think he's more popular now doing his, doing his, his announcing stuff than he was when that card was signed. Yeah, that's probably true. Yeah. Speaking to high number ones, this is the Gallinari rookie year, tops hardwood. And I don't know what this parallel, like it's out of 2009 because of that's what his draft year. I don't even know what the parallel is. But this is a COM C find where I was just randomly scrolling through for stuff I needed to fill out the binder and I'm like, oh, that's the jersey number eight of 2009. And just kind of stuff like that. You're right. Steve is more. This isn't going on a binary. I just keep it in this case. I can pull it out every once in a while and remember like, oh, I just randomly found that on COM C. And it's more special than some other ones because you're right. It's like that needle and haystack find. So yeah, those are pretty cool. I have a confession to make. So I don't do TikTok or any of that stuff. But I may spend some hours on during my downtime. Doom scrolling comp see looking for jersey number cards. I think it's such a. Because a lot of times it's a higher like submission level to get like the full serial number listed. So you have to go through and click them and flip the cards over and look at the back or look at the serial number. And for the players I collect like I found an Asia Wilson on there the other day 22 out of something of a parallel I wouldn't normally pick up. But like, yeah, I might spend more time than a healthy human being should scrolling through comp Se trying to find those. Those eyeball jersey number cards. Well, finding the ones that are not advertised as jersey match eBay 1 of 1 and finding it on your own organically, it hits a little. Hits a little harder. You get me? I agree with that. All right, we got A comment from kc37 Thoughts on a player with a single digit jersey number who has a lot more jersey number cards than are in desirable parallels versus someone with a higher jersey number, fewer cards, less prestigious sets. I think that kind of goes hand in hand with what we're just talking about. It's like someone like Victor Romanyama's got to have as many jersey number serial matches as anyone in history at this point. At least through three years of playing cards. No kidding. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. I responded to Casey that like it's very, very chat and I'm sharing a. I actually got this, a gift from a hobby friend Sons wins card when he was clearing out some binder stuff. So it's a jit. Another J Crowder Elite blue parallel out of 99. And this is 99 out of 99. It is very, very, very challenging for me to find j crowded jersey number cards because it's limited to just serial numbered parallels that are 99 or higher. And most parallels are either less than 99 or they're unnumbered. Whereas like I showed. I mean I had no problem finding Jalen Brown jersey number cards but I felt like paying for him back in the day. So there's definitely something to that. Yeah, for me it's. I was going after Jamal Murray for a little while just you know, if I'd see stuff show up is kind of on the time frame when he was playing with Harris and I got into the jersey number stuff and he's number 27. So he's excluded from out of 10. He's excluded from out of 25. So you're basically looking at, you know, like, out of 49s, out of 50s, out of 99. So it is harder to check those down and a little bit more fun and. And, you know, a lot. A lot nicer and more rewarding when you. When you do see them. All right, we got. It's a crazy one. He says, just remember to have a prism pink Pulsar 42 out of 42 of Davis batons, which happens to wear number 42. Probably the only card you could get that to happen on. Nice. Yeah. There's not too many plays wearing the number 42 that it happened to be in a parallel set out of 42. So. Yeah. Is that. It's a real 101. That's awesome. Yeah. So that pink pulsar that's I'm assuming is out of 42 just on its own. Yeah. Yeah. That's great. Right on. All right. We could just. I don't know if we've covered all we wanted to. I could show off a couple cards. You guys got a couple pulled out if you want. I can start with this one. Yeah. Fire him off. Another Gallinari. Surprise, surprise. This is immaculate. And he, surprisingly, he's got a decent number of patches that came out when he was on the Nuggets, but not as many as you like. So I actually have a bunch of different copies of this, and this just turns out to be, like, one of the nicer patches, so it ended up on the. With the jersey number. I thought that one was cool. And then this Jokic select rookie prism. And this was. This is kind of one we were talking about. Like, this is out of 99. Jersey number 15. Out of 99. It's the blue parallel. I did have the tie dye, which I sold recently to buy a camper, but, yeah, so those kind of finds are fun. I think even the light blue, which matches his jersey, and having it be jersey numbered is like, a nice consolation prize. Are you going to let some nicer stuff go? Because the value is so high. Like, that's. That's a great. Exactly what I thought, because I was like, okay, I've. I got three of them. I had a. I had a gold, and I sold and I sold a tie dye, but I kept that blue one because I'm like, what could I realistically get? Maybe a couple thousand if the best case scenario. But to me, like, keeping it because it was such kind of the needle in the haystack was. Was more worth it. And I'm already Going to sell the other two so keep one of them. So that's one I kept. I love it. How about. How about you, Aaron? Any. Oh you. You mentioned you didn't pull anything out because you're. Well, I actually just. I have sitting next to me. This is somewhat unrelated but in terms of specific serial numbers I did get some random mail this week of very small purchases. These are. I don't know, these probably won't even come into the. But these are top school for baseball with just so two dollar cards. Right. But I was inspired by. I've seen on social media to the kids birthdays type of serial numbers. So I guess I already showed my kid's birthday on the Internet, but. Oh, that's cool. So it matches their. Their month in the year or something born July 1st. Then you get 701 or out of the year that they were born from because tops golds are still number to the year. Oh I was, I was inspired by. I'd seen that on, you know, Instagram probably a couple times recently. So I as they come up now I buy them because they're often a dollar a piece. So now I have. I think I have six of one kid and four of another kid. Who knows if they'll get any kick out of that. Whenever they're old enough to. It's for me never do know at some point they probably look at it and go oh, that's actually cool that dad thought enough of me to like actually want to pick up something like that. Well, they're more nice. It'll be really nice tell you that. That'll be really nice. If they tell you that when they're 30 maybe they'll. Maybe they'll look back. Probably not before then when they inherit the collection and you can like explain it to them like now this is all on you. All these giant boxes and all this crap. Slightly less than your dad paid for it. How about you, Ryan? I know you showed a couple off anymore you got. You got to show us. Nope, I've. I've totally blown through everything. That is all just about all the magic. I like I said I don't, I don't specifically look for that jersey numbered stuff but stuff that I had, I showed off. Cool. Let's do it. So I will pay a slight premium for jersey number cards, if they're cards that are like what I would consider key, like PC cards. Right. So Jay Crowder cards, some of my favorite WNBA players and Paul Pierce cards. Right. So I got a couple here that I mean I could have brought down. I don't like super collect them or anything and I don't pay like well above and beyond, but I, I will pick them up and I, I think it was. I collect weed. So like if I already have a card and the jersey number one pops up for like a, you know, five or ten bucks more or whatever, I'll pick that up and then sell the other copy. But I brought four down that I think are kind of fun. This one is a multiplayer relic card. So Gerald Green's on this. So this must be from 0506 tops. This is a luxury box. They call it the triple double because you get three players on the front, two on the back. And that's jersey numbered for Pierce 34 out of 193. So I just. This was just sitting on ebay one day. It wasn't listed as a jersey numbered card. And I flipped it over and saw that this one's super cool. This is a colossal jersey patch. The, the, the laser cut window is the number 34. I don't know if you can see that with the reflection, but this is a Pierce's jersey number 34 out of 49. So I love this stuff where it's like themed about the jersey number. And then to get the jersey numbered, copy my favorite Pierce jersey number card that goes. I found this at the same time, found the Perkins when I was organizing my collection probably like 2018 or so and actually pulling cards out that I might sell. This is from Flir Authentics. This is an 0405. Absolutely love this set. Love the aggressive photo there. And this is number 34 out of 50. This is one of those sets you got to be. You got to be careful about. But the parallel. So one thing with all these, you know, 0304 or four or five flare cards, make sure that the, the parallel foil matches the serial number stamp foil. So if it's purple, it should be purple. I'll say it every time I bring one of these up, but these are counterfeited a lot because of the, the, the sell off when Flair went out of business. And then I want to give a shout out to if anybody doesn't follow him on Instagram or socials. Lj, LJ and kg. He's. He's from down under he's gonna probably kill me if I say it wrong because I'm sure if I say New Zealand, it's Australia. Australia, it's New Zealand. I'm sure that's like bit of rivals. But he collects only Kevin. Well, not only Kevin Garnett, because Larry Johnson, but for the Kevin Garnett stuff, only 21 out of XX cards. He won't do the Celtics. So I've tried to get him to get some 5 out of XX cards. He has over 500 jersey numbered license. Kevin Garnett Timberwolves cards It's. It's such a fun collection. It covers all the way through the mid-90s, up until the Panini era. I remember when he was on Cardboard Chronicles, which is when I first started talking with him, which probably had to have been like 2017 and he was going to cut it off at 300 and now he's over 500. So super fun collection. One of the best guys you'll ever, ever interact with in the hobby, if you ever connect with them. He found this on, I think it was ebay, but it might have been one of the other sets. And pointed out to me this is a four on four. So Celtics and that. So, you know, for the Celtics you've got Rondo, Ray Allen, Pierce, KG on the back. I forget the next. I'm not going to try and read it with my bad eyes right now, but a four on four. So. So eight relics. And his keen eye noticed that it was Paul Pierce Jersey number 34 out of 90. Right? 34 out of 65. So every time I see this card and you know, came with the little. I love that. You know, there's so many relics on here that the authentication had to be a separate, separate card. But so it came with that. It's a complete. And just every time I see it, I just think of, think of it, you know, that collection, that moment, that interaction. So wanted to give a shout out to my buddy there and also recommend that if people are interested in seeing what, you know, Jersey number cards really can, how widespread they can be and make it seem so focused at the same time. I'm not going to pay a huge premium farm because of this. 24 hourly copies. I'm not going to pay a 30, 40 premium for them. But if they can be had, I'll definitely take it over the other copies. When it's a specifically serial numbered set. Grabbing the specific. You know, if it's the year then the year. If it's the draft position. In the draft position. I like grabbing those over the years. If I find them. I only have I think three or four of them but those are ones that I keep my out for just because I like the ones that have. There's a purpose for the serial number rather than just oh, out of 99. For the hundredth time. Car that I have my PC. Aaron. And this is getting like wicked nerdy about the numbering cards but it's. I have. I have a huge affinity for the 98 draft class because it's Pierce's draft class. But I also think it's one of Emmy, it's Derek, it's Carter, it's. I mean it's Bibby, it's Ricky Davis. It's a very deep first round of a draft class and so I pick up stuff that's 98 draft related. I have a Pierce. A Pierce. It's just. It's just a napkin relic. But the, the whole theme is like draft year. Right. So it's a 98 window and I. It's serial number 10 out of 98. He was drafted 10th in the. In the 98 draft. So like stuff like that I, I love but that the titanium one's even. Even better because they do have the draft position, the draft year and a jersey numbered and somewhere in Hobby somewhere scale. Those are really cool. From what, 13, 14. I think titanium came out. Yeah. That was the one year I think it was standalone and then they did it within Chronicles for a couple years too. Yeah. I was honestly pretty sad when we traded him, you know, because he played for the Nuggets for. What was it? Yeah, a year, maybe two years. To want to be able to explore on his own, see what it. So I don't, you know, I do have some Marvel stuff when I watch those breaks, they get really excited. They call them Alpha and Omega. And if they hit the bookend cards, those are like their version jersey number cards. Because other than like maybe getting a 4 out of something for a Fantastics 4 character, you really don't have anything. But they. They. So there's just something about getting the fun serial numbers that adds a. A full version of extra scarcity that gets our collective juices flowing. So it's not just sports guys that kick out about this stuff. So that's the reason they go after the quote unquote bookends, because they're not a sports player. Obviously they don't have a actual Jersey number. So that's the cooler variation. Yeah. What the lineage is there? I don't know, like, how that became a thing, but I don't collect Disney at all. Adam does. And when I said something about Alpha Omega, Adam's like, nope, that's a. The Disney people are big into that too. Okay. Fun little way. Yeah. I guess they have to have something. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. Because when you mentioned Alpha Omega, I didn't put it together until you mentioned Bookend, and I didn't really know about Bookend until maybe a couple of years ago when you started seeing it on ebay. So it must have come from, like, Marvel or Disney or something like that made its way over into sports. And I still don't get it, but that's. Hey, everybody collects different. Cool.
