Well, as I look for stories to discuss with you guys, there was a running theme with this week's episode. You see there's. I'm going to name this the local adventure. Right? So you've got a couple places right here in Ontario, one in New Market, which is I believe two hours south of me, and then one in Barry, which is like a 45 minute drive off. 40 minute drive south of me. But then there's also a, dare I say, douchebag down in the States. So we tie, we tie in Canada, which is ironically wholeheartedly feel good stories and then one jackass from the States. Not to bash my co host who's American, but at least for this week's episode, Canada comes out on top. There's a lot of jerks from here, that's for sure. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean there's, there's jerks Everywhere. There's everywhere. There's a lot of jerks in Canada. But first, we're going to start with the top 10 cards this week. We're looking at good old 151. Right? Oh, God. I mean, can we guess what number one is going to be? Yu-Gi-Oh probably the Sir Charizard Ex for a whopping 402.92. It's insane. Ironically, though, not the most expensive charge that we've seen while doing this thing, so. Yu-Gi-Oh well, yet. Give us. I do like the art on it. It's basic, but I do like it. It's. Yu-Gi-Oh $400. No, but Yu-Gi-Oh it is nice artwork, but Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, 400. Look at gengars for. For crying out loud. You know, the artwork on those are freaking phenomenal. Most of them. Some of them are a little weird, but Yu-Gi-Oh you know, almost two grand. Beautiful. Yu-Gi-Oh Or actually, well, the one that. Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. Is like a thousand. So. Yu-Gi-Oh I'm not paying a thousand dollars for a Gengar. Number two is Blastoise ex D sir. It's $147.50. Number three is Venusaur ex D sir for $115.70. That card is gorgeous. I like that. Venusaur. And it's kind of nice to have all three final evolutions as 1, 2, and 3. And Venusaur is actually finally getting some spotlight here. Yes, it's in the number three spot, but hey, he's starting to get some spotlight. Yep. It's funny because that's going to be added later about Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur does not get a lot of love. Yu-Gi-Oh Number four, though, is Zapdos ex D sir for a hundred and four dollars and forty cents. Then we get Pikachu, the Illustration Rare at 96.48. And then we go back to the starters in a weird order. Number six is squirtle, the Illustration Rare at $93.72. Bulbasaur comes out at number seven, the Illustration Rare at $85.65. And finally, for the three starters, Charmander, the Illustration Rare comes out at $84.81. Number nine, though, is a random one. It's Psyduck, the Illustration Rare at $73.09, followed by at number 10, Al Kazam ex the sir for $68.46. Which is weird considering that was like one of the most sought after cards when 151 first came out. It was like, Yu-Gi-Oh the quote unquote big chase cards. But if you wanted to buy all 10 of those cards, it's going to cost you. It's going to cost you $1,272 and 73 cents. Dear God. That's a lot of money. That is a lot of money. And, and why, you know, I. I got the starters, I pulled two of them. I bought, I bought. So I pulled the Charizard and I pulled the Venusaur. The blastoids was a pain in the butt. Like, I opened it. I normally don't open a lot of any set. I opened a decent amount, 151. Not nearly as much as other people have, but, you know, a couple ETBs, Whatnot, could not for the life of me pull the blastoids. Finally, I saw the Blastoise at my card shop. I bought it when it was like 40 bucks. So, Yu-Gi-Oh I. I pulled it out of a pack. From what box? I Goldin freaking remember. I opened a lot of 151, but when it first came out back before the huge hype for it. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, there's a freaking poster right behind me. Yu-Gi-Oh I have the Pandora somewhere. The thing is, though, I got rid of my 151 set in order to fund, I think, either just to make sure I wasn't going to go bankrupt or to fund the more like, more ghastly haunters and gangers from my master set of those three. Yu-Gi-Oh But I remember that's a must. Yu-Gi-Oh I remember though, for sure. I think I traded in the Blastoise for $60 back then, which is still good. Yu-Gi-Oh it's not bad. Not bad. I want to say maybe a year ago. Yu-Gi-Oh sounds about right. Which is weird because, like, it seems like 151 just came out like yesterday, but it's been a couple years now. Isn't that insane? That's. Oh, it's. It just shows that we're getting old. Yu-Gi-Oh it's scary and like. And the older we get, the faster the time's gonna go by. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, Yu-Gi-Oh I. I just. That's the thing. I mean, we're, you know, near the end of July, for crying out loud. Like, where the hell did the year go? Literally, I remember freaking the first podcast of the year, for crying out loud. Yu-Gi-Oh right. But next we're gonna get into some quote unquote local news here. So starting off, there is a new Poke Lounge, which mixes trading cards and cocktails that is opening up in Newmarket, Ontario. That's. Oh, you're. You're lucky. That sounds good. I want to check that out. Now, mind you, I can see some shit going down here. You're gonna get one drunk asshole fighting another drunk asshole because they traded cards and there's no trade backs or some. Yes, that's true. So there is a newly opened Poke Lounge in Newmarket which combines the train carts with cocktails. It is located on Bobsford street at Main Street. The Poke Lounge is designed to offer a family friendly space travel during the day before transitioning to a adults only venue after 7pm did gonna strip. The owners Dave and Jasmine say that the goal is to create an inviting environment for guests of all ages with cocktails, mocktails and food available alongside trading cards and Pokemon themed experiences. Customers can get all the regular things they can get at a trading card store, but they can also get something to eat and enjoy Pokemon at the same time. Pokemon has become a lucrative. So lucrative that companies like Tesla, Bitcoin and Nadi Nivea. Sorry. Do not equal the sales of Pokemon worldwide. And this is happening across the globe. Obviously it is. Yep. Now they say that there was a need for a local space where Pokemon fans could celebrate their passion and connect with others in a safe environment. The husband said that Main street already offers a variety of things to do and he is so excited to add another community focused destination. The lounge will host events including karaoke, oh boy. Live music and other activities with. With the Hope or with the owners hoping guests will help shape the space through their feedback and ideas. They want people to feel welcome where there's no pressure, making it an inclusive environment and seeing people smile. The husband said that he wants guests to create their own experience at the Poke Lounge and for the business to continue evolving with a community similar to how Pokemon characters evolve. I knew they were. I. Yu-Gi-Oh that's. That's funny. Now the lounge is connected to Wayside Comics and Cocktails, which they say is the key reason for opening the business next door. He described a comic shop as one of the strongest comic collectors in the area and said that the partnership helps create a destination for fans of collectibles and pop culture. The owners hope to eventually establish Poke Lounge locations in other cities, bringing the Pokemon themed experience to. To more communities. Are you gonna check it out? I. That's the thing. I hardly ever go that south. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't like going. I mean I don't even like going to Barry and that's a 40 minute drive. I try and stay out of the big cities just because there's a lot of douchebags and. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean I. Well, I mean call it the adhd, the autism. I don't. I don't like people. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't want to be. It probably is too. I don't want to go to a city. I'm. Which is ironic because I grew up in a city. Yu-Gi-Oh You know, and I've only been in the small town since 2008, but still, like, I don't. Newmarket is close to Toronto. My brother and his fiance live in Toronto. I have no plans on going to Toronto. Yu-Gi-Oh I don't one-of-one I mean, I was thinking about doing spartan down there at some point, but even then I don't one-of-one Yu-Gi-Oh you don't one-of-one Yu-Gi-Oh the city. I just don't one-of-one go down to the city. I'm happy in my small town. Even though you would not like where. Where I. Every. Everywhere I've lived is basically near a city. Well, and that's the thing. Like, I can survive. I mean, I grew up in a city where you had to have street smarts. If you threw me in the city and said, you now live here, I could adjust in a heartbeat. Yu-Gi-Oh Back to my old city life. But looking back on it, I had to mask a lot. Whereas up here, I'm just kind of left alone. Yu-Gi-Oh People don't necessarily bug you. I mean, the most we get is an elderly person saying good morning to you, which, whatever. I Goldin care less. I'll say good morning to people. I Goldin care less. You know, and other than that, people just leave people alone. We're a small town, like 20 something, thousand people. It's quiet, it's nice. Yu-Gi-Oh I can imagine. Yu-Gi-Oh Now on to the dip in the U.S. pennsylvania to be PER. In a Lower Paxton township of Pennsylvania. So you see, a business owner is facing felony charges after police said he took a family's vintage Pokemon card collection and sold them for his own profit. Jackass. According to the Lower Paxton Township Bureau of Police. She's try saying that fast 10 times. Family reported on March 10, which ironically, this is very old. I mean, this literally came out a couple days ago, this news article. So this happened all the way back in March, that they had the reported on March 10 that they had been defrauded by Williamson Cards and Collectibles LLC and its owner, Matthew Williamson. Investigators said that the victims met Williamson at regional card shows and later asked him to evaluate their vintage Pokemon collection. The family had planned to pay Williamson to submit the highest quality cards to a reputable authenticator for professional grading, according to police. So probably just submitting them off to grading for psa. Investigators say the victims met with Williamson multiple times before Turning over the Pokemon cards and paying a agreed upon amount for the grading service. Depending on the graded value, officials said the cards could be worth between $2,030,000, which. That was a massive gap. You Goldin have narrowed that down even a little bit? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh it could be worth two grand or it could be worth 30 grand. Really? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh Okay. Sure, buddy. Now, according to police, several months had passed and Williamson failed to provide any proof that the cards had been submitted for grading. Oh, there we go. Investigators said that Williamson eventually admitted to selling the cards for personal profit. According to police, documents provided by Williamson showed that he had knowledge of the card business and understood the value of the collection, which. What the hell does that matter? I mean, anybody can look on ebay. Hell, anybody can look on tcg. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, hey, is this card valuable or is it shit? Yu-Gi-Oh exactly. Yu-Gi-Oh maybe, you know, maybe back in, like, the. The late 90s or whatever. It was a little harder, but we all have technology. Yep. So investigators said that knowledge allowed him to exploit the victims by taking the best quality cards for his own benefit. Well, Yu-Gi-Oh The police worked with the East Pensborough police Department to charge Williamson on June 4th with one count of theft by deception and deception business practices, both of which are classified as felony offenses. Huh. Well, that sucks for you. That's crazy. That's insane. I did that. Yu-Gi-Oh And that's the thing. Like, okay, so value between 2,000 and 30,000. Speaking from Canadian law, I will say if something is valued under five grand, it's theft under 5,000, for instance. Right. It's still a felony charge, but you're not going to get as much jail time or, hell, even probation as you would say. $30,000 worth of fraud. Yu-Gi-Oh Right. So how does this work? Like, is the prosecutor gonna turn around, like, we're gonna nail his ass for fraud of 30 grand or whatever? How? How? Yu-Gi-Oh Defense could turn around and be like, well, who the hell says that these cars were worth $30,000? They could have been worth two, $2,000, and in that case, it's whatever, like petty theft or whatever. Yu-Gi-Oh right. So it's. That's going to be an interesting one. I kind of want to keep a tab on that and see what the hell happens, because. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, so he was charged beginning of June. We're now at the end of July. I mean, if the court system down there works just like us or anywhere near like us, it's. Yu-Gi-Oh it's going to be freaking months and Months, probably damn near a year before he actually goes to court. Easily. Yu-Gi-Oh easily. And by then he'll probably take a plea deal and get like time served. Yu-Gi-Oh because, you know, why not? And finally, a berry father and a daughter are hiding Pokemon card packs for daily scavenger hunts. The father and eight year old daughter are drawing families outdoors by hiding sealed packs around the city and posting daily clues online. You see, for the father and the eight year old daughter, what began as a simple way to spend time together has quickly evolved into a hide and seek adventure. Each day, the pair tuck sealed Pokemon card packs around Barry in parks, along trails, near playgrounds, then post clues online so families and collectors can hunt them down. The father has been collecting the popular card game since he was a kid and says that when he started showing his daughter his old cards, she showed interest in some of the cute cards and her own interest grew. It was just something that let us reconnect together and something nice to do throughout the summer, he says. Now, because they often scour garage sales for used cards, the pair frequently end up with stacks of duplicates. I mean, how. Open up a single, hell, even an ETB and you're going to get quite a few duplicates. Exactly. A growing pile that eventually sparked an idea. Instead of letting the extras sit in binders, which. Why would you put your extras in binders? That's that. I think that's a huge waste of money. I mean, put them in card storage boxes. Yu-Gi-Oh they're cheap and they can hold like thousands and thousands of cars. Exactly. They decided, though, to share their love of the hobby by hiding a surplus cards around Barry for others to discover. He goes on to say that this was this way we can make something fun for kids or anybody that's into it to find the cards. He says their mini scavenger hunt began about a month and a half ago. But interest surged far beyond what he expected. A couple weeks ago, he noticed a sudden spike in his followers on his personal Facebook profile, which he and his daughter then decided to launch a YouTube channel and a dedicated Facebook page to keep the project separate from their private lives. Which makes sense. You don't want. Yu-Gi-Oh You know, as much as you hope to trust random strangers, you kind of don't want random strangers knowing about your personal life or tells about your personal life, especially in a city like Barry. Barry is a crime capital here in Ontario. So it's. Yu-Gi-Oh it's usually better to keep your private life separate from your hobby life. I mean, I even do that with Instagram. Yu-Gi-Oh I deleted my personal Instagram because I don't use it anymore. Yu-Gi-Oh Checking off the boxes on your to do list is a great feeling. That's why a State Farm agent is there to help you choose a coverage option that's right for you. The father says getting to the project has been one of the best parts and for her, his daughter, the feelings mutual. She says that's a lot of fun, adding she loves helping decide where each surprise pack will be hidden. When asked what the best part is, she didn't Heritage in saying that giving back to the community. To date, the pair has tucked packs at spots across the city, such as Dairy Queen outside a local Dollarama Loot, Kingdom, Tooth Corner in the Bayfield Mall, and the Gamers Lair in the Bayfield Mall. Which interesting Bayfield Mall is one of those malls that like it's not dead, but it's dying. Ish. Barry has three malls. They have the Kozlov Center, Bayfield Mall, and Georgia Mall. Georgia Mall is like by far the most popular. However, chances are when you walk through there, you're going to see a jewelry store get robbed. Yu-Gi-Oh quite literally. It seems like almost weekly a jewelry store in the Georgia Mall gets robbed. Bayfield Mall is kind of smack dab in the middle of those two. From hugely popular to dying. One of those drops, the father says, got a lot of you views, which is what pushed them to create the dedicated page. People were like, oh my God that's so cool. Then all of a sudden my Personal Facebook had a couple hundred followers. Yu-Gi-Oh They named a page after the Pokemon Eevee. A nod to only. A nod not only to his daughter's favorite character, but also to the father's two month old daughter who shares the name. Together, they try to hide a pack every single day. If the weather's bad, we'll do two the next day, he says. It's just kind of random. It's not planned at all. If we were not doing anything, then we'll go for a drive. So far, they've been around to see two different people discover the packs. One minute it was there, the next minute it was gone. He adds, noting each pack is tucked inside a small Ziploc bag with a note so people know they aren't simply lost cards. He goes on to say, I should write something on it that says, congratulations, you found me, but thought that what I had was inviting enough and Yu-Gi-Oh catching already. He hopes that people who stumble across the cards get as much joy out of finding them as he and his daughter do hiding them. It's a good way for kids to get out out for the summer and find some free cards. Yu-Gi-Oh Ultimately, he says that matters most. What matters most, sorry, is that the time he and his daughter get to spend together opening packs, making videos and sharing the excitement with others. She loves being on camera and making videos. Adding the feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive. We've had people from different countries message and be like, oh, that's so great, asking where we're doing it. After they hide each pack, the father posts a short video online with a small hint about the location. He goes on to say, so the one yesterday, we just kind of had it by the rocks and then I gave the corner of the spirit catcher real quick view. He said it was probably some somebody walking by that found it, which is good too because we want new people to see it and get involved. He's referencing the Zebra Catcher. In Downtown Barry or near the waterfront of Barry, there's this giant Zebra catcher. It's a giant metal statue type of thing. It's a huge giant Zebra catcher. I don't know the origins of it, but it's, it's iconic for Barry. It's also been under controversy of should we revamp it or remove it and put something quote, unquote better there, which people got really, really pissed off about. Yu-Gi-Oh which, I mean, just leave it. It's iconic. Yu-Gi-Oh But Yu-Gi-Oh so now we're going to look at our pick for the Pokedex. So today we're doing Gen 2. Last week we did Gen 1. My pick is good old Totodile because I love Tododile. Absolutely love Tododa. I love Chikorita. Love Totodile. I love Centerquil. I hate Typhlosion. I impartial buff for Alligator. And I hate Megan. Love, love Baylee. Hate me. All I think about when I see Blue Ice how. How Ash was so toxic to it in the anime. He was so mean to it. Yu-Gi-Oh But the Pokedex entry that I Beckett is. It's small, but rough and tough. It one-of-one Heritage to take a bite of anything that moves. I like it, which is awesome. And what did you pick for the Pokedex? So I ended up picking. I just want to get to the entry. I ended up picking a Pokemon that it's. I don't know, it's kind of underrated, I would say Slugma. I chose Slugma because I saw the entry and honestly I. I'm gonna read. There's so many different ones I would want to read, but the one I'm going to read is from Gold. So it's just basic, but it never sleeps. It has to keep moving because if it stopped, its magma body would cool and harden. So basically, Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's an ever flowing moving slug of fire. Yu-Gi-Oh pretty much, Yu-Gi-Oh It kind of weird that if it stops moving, it'll essentially die. Yu-Gi-Oh pretty much theoretically. Theoretically, Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh that's kind of weird. And finally, our picks for the Pandora Yu-Gi-Oh we're still doing that Pandora giveaway, guys. This week though, was an interesting one. It's Crystal Guardians. That is, dare I say, a forgotten set. It's a. It's an oldie, you know, 2006. God, 20 freaking years ago. Holy crap. Insane. But the artwork back then just slaps like it does today. Yep. Now, the Pokemon I Beckett I Beckett it for two reasons. The artwork is really really funky and the move is really, really weird because of what it's called. So I Beckett number 53, Jigglypuff. Checking off the boxes on your to do list is a great feeling. That's why a State Farm agent is there to help you choose a coverage option that's right for you. Now, why I Beckett it for the artwork is because poor old Jigglypuff looks like it's being swept up to God knows where on some kind of body of water with what looks like the remnants of a leaf branch of some sort kind of tucked under its ear. This Jigglypuff is going for a hell of a ride. It's. It is so weird looking, but the move is weird. For a single energy, you do 10 damage. Fine. Yu-Gi-Oh Okay. Jigglypuff is, you know, a basic. It's only got 50 HP. What do you expect? Now which Jigglypuff you expect to move to be maybe sing or maybe not even pound, but like slap or something, you know, it's hypnoblast. Interesting. So you do 10 damage and the defending Pokemon is now asleep. Why didn't they just call it sleep or lullaby? Yu-Gi-Oh Instead they Beckett Hypno Blast. Which sounds devastating. Yu-Gi-Oh it does. But it's a tiny ass Jigglypuff that does 10 damage. 10. That's a. I'm looking at the card right now. That's an interesting looking card. Yu-Gi-Oh is. I looked at that. I thought that there's so much wrong with this thing. The name of the move, the artwork, the. It looks psychotic. Yu-Gi-Oh Is like just weird looking. But Yu-Gi-Oh I freaking love it. Plus, like, the. The actual like artwork of the card is kind of cool. It's got like the divots in the card. Yu-Gi-Oh It's just. It's really, really cool. But what did you pick for Crystal Guardian? So I, I went with a Pokemon like I mentioned earlier, that's very, very underrated, especially for a starter. The poor thing never gets enough attention. It's always Charizard or Blastoise. I Beckett Bulbasaur card number because it's mainly the art. It's card number 45 of 100. Right. Okay. It's basically Bulbasaurus looking at a Fleer and the petals are flying off of it. It's a 50 HP card. It has two, two, two moves. It has tackle, which is any color energy that takes away 10, and then poison powder, which obviously just. The defending Pokemon is now poisoned with the grass energy. I Beckett it, like I said, mainly for the art. I thought the art was interesting and it connects to the Ivysaur in that set. And I like the cards that connect this we have looking back and even at modern now we have a lot of cards that the arts are starting to connect. And I think it's just a really cool aspect. It would be really cool as a collector or if some collector will just get all the card arts that connect to each other from every set. Cool. That would be pretty cool. So, Yu-Gi-Oh I chose it mainly because of the art. Huh. And like. So ironically, number 46 is also Bulbasaur. Yes, completely 180 for the artwork and even the like same HP though, but the moves are significantly different. You know, your, your, your pick is, you know, 10 for tackle and then poison powder, which just poisons and does what, 10 or 20 damage or whatever. Yu-Gi-Oh Whereas the other Bulbasaur has growth, which you attach a grass energy from your hand to that Bulbasaur and then vine rip, which is 2 energies but does 20 damage. Yu-Gi-Oh but. So that's different. Yu-Gi-Oh but the one you Beckett it gives off like, like school, school age drawing, whereas the next one seems like almost like anime esque or like, I don't know, maybe video game esque. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's completely like 180, which is quite interesting. I mean even, I mean you have a little bit further down, you've got Charmander and then another Charmander immediately under it. However, those are. Ones are regular, which the artwork is absolutely adorable for the regular one. But then the one below it, it's a delta species, so it turns it into electric type, which is hilarious to have an electric Charmander. Yu-Gi-Oh that was pretty cool. That's pretty cool. Yu-Gi-Oh but. Oh God, could you imagine a freaking electric Charmander? Well, it would. It would be resistant to water then. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh that's. That'd be interesting. That would be interesting. Very interesting. But that is going to be it for this week's episode. Thank you everyone for tuning in, listening, watching on Patreon. And we will see you again next next week for a brand new week.
