Welcome back to the Hobby Chop Podcast. This is the podcast for the people. I am Big Ken. He is Zip. Zip. How you doing, my friend? Doing great tonight. I was able to work out before this, take a cold shower because my, My garage, we don't. We. There's no air, like, there's no air conditioning whatsoever in there. So I just was basically lifting garage. I don't know that many people have air conditioning in your garage. Yeah, I don't. I don't. Yeah, so we have, it's, it's, it's three bays in the garage. In the third bay, we have a. What do you call a gym, and it's just abs. An absolute sweat box right now. So that was, that was me. But yeah, then I just, I was like, probably the best place for it, right? Yeah, no, it's good. It's. It's great for it. So. But yeah, I just took a cold shower and I am awake. No coffee needed. Good, good. Yeah, I was, I was running a little late tonight. I was almost the unprepared one tonight. I had, I had a thing worked out to go. Somebody set up a meetup last weekend, or somebody had some cards, they had a couple cards they were going to buy. This person was selling all these other cards, and that fell through, and it kept falling through. They kept rescheduling, kept falling through. So it got scheduled again for today, and I'm on my way there. I got a call again. It got canceled. But the, the person I was working with says, like, I'm done now. Like, you know what cards I want. Try to make a deal if you want. Like, here's the guy's information. So, in fact, the guy called me immediately, and he's like, I know you live close to me. Why don't we just meet up now? And I'm like, okay. So I went and I met up with them and I comped so many cards. So many cards. And, and, and I'll tell you, I don't, I know, I know you get great deals, right? The, the, the time that I go to meet up with somebody, he shows up with his brand new card ladder app, you know, subscription app, and a calculator and a notepad and a pen. And. And he's like, all right, I, I, you know, I know percentages. I need to be at like 97%. I'm like, well, you know what? We stop right there. Like, we're not even. I already know we're not close. I said, I'll give you my spiel. It's a yes or no. We both live 10 minutes away, no sweat off anybody's back. And then he, he started to warm up a little with that. But he was, it was like so difficult. Like he actually said 97. That's where he started. He had boxes and boxes of top loaded cards that, that I wasn't gonna, I wasn't gonna comp all those cards out. And I said like, what do you like? He goes, well you know everyone, every card in here is $10 or more. So if we just average then I'm like okay, stop, stop, stop. No you can't, you can't just go $10 a card on bulk like that. No shot. Yeah. So I ended up buying like 45 cards. And it was tough. It was a three hour, you know, nickel and diamond negotiating and, and you know, it was, it was definitely, I mean I, I think I did well at the end for what I'm gonna do with it for, for, you know, as for the percentage I got and what I can do it for it. I mean compared to discussions we have had, it wasn't anywhere close to how good your deals are. But still for what I'm doing, and we're going to talk about this, you know, on this episode tonight, which really ties in like what we did the first six months, what, what the hobby looked like the first six months and what it's going to look like in the sec. And, and later on when I talk about some of the cards I got, there's like reasoning. I got it because, okay, just from the hobby prediction, you know, I was willing to pay a little stronger on some cards just because I felt they were going to be liquid. Okay. Yeah. So yeah, I'm excited to hear a little bit more about like what, what was in it. Let's start with, instead of our personal six month review, let's start with a brief review of the market. So really quick before I, I, I go into it a little bit more, just every single index in the last six months and card ladder is up. Besides entertainment, every single one. And Dragon Ball z is up 206 points percent. That's crazy. And then what do you think second is? Take a wild guess. I'm sure you know what it is. Pokemon of course. 92% in six months it's up. Yeah. Let me find the first it go. It just. Modern sports is up 52%. High pop cards are up 52%. Hobby goats are up 32%. UFC up 30, 30%. Basketball 29%. Baseball 28% oh, WNBA 24%. Yeah. Vintage 24. Soccer, 22%. Bowman 100. So it's like a select. Select. Bowman players up 19%. Football, 13%. I mean, everything's up. So football. Football is only 13 right now. Right. From the last six months. So it's literally going to January when you're in the playoffs. So the fact, it's. I mean, it's pretty good because it's not even going off season. Like, I wonder what that number will look like come. What is it, September, when it be March, like after the super bowl to that, you know. Yeah, we should. We should. I wouldn't mind checking in on that, but I. I could remember doing this stuff and remember football being in the negative right. During the. From the super bowl till, like, June. Right. It would be way down right. Before it would explode back up again. Yeah. So I think another thing too, like, rather than everyone, including us, like, just sitting there patting ourselves on our back of, oh, look how good we're doing. Really can't miss. Right. Like, let's be honest. You really. You really can't go wrong in anything. You're buying according to card ladder. Like, if you're buying it and you're selling it, you're probably gonna do okay. It's like. It's like playing golf and there's like garbage. Garbage can size as a whole to get the ball in on the green. Right, Exactly. Exactly. That's a. That's a great analogy. So everything's up. Which is. Which is excellent. So when everything is up, I. I think just volume, doing as much as you can. Right. Like, probably gonna work out because everything's up. Yeah. So that's just a brief overview of the market. Everything besides entertainment is up. So. And it's interesting with entertainment too, because I know I. I mean, am I right to say Disney? Like, Disney. No, no, no, no. Disney was way up. Entertainment is like, oh, let me pull it back up. Sorry. I'll. I'll actually go in and see some of the cards that that index is tracking, but I'll pull it back up. Disney is top 10. Disney is actually 1. Is fifth at 59. Disney is up. Entertainment is down 8.82%. And it is following the. The first card in here to give you an idea of what it is is Kanye West, Taylor Swift tops American Pie. Batman, Dave Portnoy. Yeah. Jaws, the 1940 Superman set, Elvis Presley card. That sort of stuff. Okay. And it's funny because they said that was what was going to non sport. That's what. That's what they kept predicting was going to go up in the market. Right. But it's, it has, it hasn't gone up yet. Who, who do you mean by they? Like the market itself. You know, I was thinking of someone specifically who loves non sport, that has a massive podcast, was pretty predicting it was going to go up. Are you talking about me? No. Somebody who has a podcast and none. A podcast. They're very into non sport and they have maybe the biggest hobby podcast. Oh, you got to be talking about sports card lessons. Yes. Yeah. Jesse. Who? I love listening to Jesse. But I mean, yeah, sports car is nonsense. Yep. I thought when you said the biggest one ever, I thought, hey, it had to be me. Maybe, maybe I'm wrong, but. No, no, but it had been talked about a lot. I'm you and you know, I have a massive non sport. Yeah, you love that. Yeah, I, Yeah. And I've been sitting on it just waiting for the market to get better. Everybody said, oh, it's gonna go up, it's gonna. It hasn't done anything. I've been watching those prices and the only thing that happens is my wife gets mad at me like, I thought you were selling those cars. It's like, but it's so cool. But it's so cool. So that's like the brief market overview. Do you want to start on your 6 month personal review or is that, is that when you're talking about this collection or is that separate? No, that's separate. I mean my six month. And, and I'm pretty transparent, you know, through both podcasts, what I do, I share all the cards. Like I pick up. But my, my six months, like seriously, my six months. And you know, this has just been buying for the national. Yeah, right. That, that has been my game plan all along. And every time I think, oh my God, I got so much inventory. I don't know how I'm ever going to sell all this there. And then I go out like tonight and I buy, you know, a whole bunch more to put in. But you know, one of the things I've realized and probably where I've made a bit of a mistake is keep going, keep holding all this stuff that I'm saying I'm holding to the national, but keep going to shows and I keep just putting stuff in my. And, and I've been selling stuff it hasn't like I haven't been selling it. And then I started buying things that I could immediately drop back in my case, but not enough imagery. I've been at some really good shows that I thought to myself, wow, if I was smarter and I just had really invested in more inventory, even in stuff that I don't really do a lot with, right. That I would have done very well at this show. So kind of moving forward, even if I'm doing that. What? Like, like I talk about learning lessons, right? And one of the lessons that I learned was, you know, don't it. I always talk about stay in your lane. And I mean it, stay in your lane. But, but one of the things about, for me, staying in my lane, that's fine, but it's okay to add, you know, things maybe I'm not that comfortable with. Put some baseball cards in there, put some more basketball cards in there, you know, put a few soccer cards in there. You know, things like that. I've overwhelmed my cases with WNBA and football, Right. And now that I sell out the football, I'm sitting there with all wnba. So I'm limiting myself to who's going to come buy from me or sell to you, too. People who come up, Right. I'm sure there's people. If you had, like, more of the basketball, baseball, football, there would be opportunities that are probably missed just because of what they see, right? Yeah. Yeah. 100. And then I try, like, I try to take stuff like I, like most people do. What I've been doing the last few shows is taking stuff and overpricing it, in my case, right? Stuff that I'm really not wanting to sell, but just trying to attract people to, you know, sell me, offer me more. More things for sale. Yeah, absolutely. So that's the review is that you've been just stockpiling and buying for the national. That's, that's been the plan, though. Yeah. I mean, you made that clear as soon as you got the table. Like, this is what I'm doing. This is it. And smart money, too. Like not ripping a ton of stuff, right. Just taking that money and just buying into cards any way I can get cards, you know, that are of value, that I know are going to work out, that, you know, are going to be liquid or, or whatever that, that are going to move out there. So just being a whole lot smarter in this last, last six months, too, about how I'm spending my money in the hobby and what I'm spending it on and looking for better roi. Yep. Yeah, I, I, I, I don't think you can go wrong with that, honestly. After you say that I gave myself three rules that I followed the sick these six months. Rule one, only buy deals that make sense. And then I put in parentheses and less PC like for example that gold Spectra Jason Tatum card I bought for 2 grand and 8 a BGS 8.5 sold after that for 1500. I don't even care. Like I'm not like don't care. It's like that, that's like the exception to the rule, right? It's unless PC like just like I, my Roman Anthony Bowman's best Gold Auto should have sold that a while ago. It's got to be way down now. I haven't even looked at it or thought of it. It's like those few things, another second rule. No ripping at all. Haven't done, haven't done that. And it's you, you get, you get to see behind the curtains more. It's worked out pretty tremendously for me by not doing that. Yeah. And then the most important rule I think is, is what I'm focused on and that is buying the top tier players. Because in my opinion there's less volatility on the top tier players for me. Like I don't even really care the sport or the time of year for baseball, basketball or football because those top tier players like you know when, well you'll know this. You know the fantasy like YouTube shows and stuff and they go like S tier A T, B like S is above everything. I'm buying the S tier players in every sport. Right? That's, that's all like when I am buying a collection I want S tier items to be the bulk of that collection. Like the collection that you saw that, that I. A couple week. Well a few collections that I bought ago when I, that NT box, that is a S tier wax box and that's the only, only reason I, I even entertained that because that is cream of the crop wax. I don't do that at all. And the, the draft class, there's S tier hobby relevant players in that like as a shell. And then it was a LeBron James PSA slabbed rookie and a Justin Herbert gold immaculate RPA like that. Those three items consisted of a bulk of the value in that, in that collection. And that is, that is exactly why I bought it. And then I did all the work going through all those other boxes to pick out all the quote unquote sellable cards that I was into. I had already profited like I think like 250 bucks before I even touched any of the other sellable items. And there's a few, there's another few thousand dollars in sellable items that I'm, I just Sent off to consignment because I'm into them for absolutely nothing. Like, and, and that, that focusing on the top tier players in a collection like that has allowed me to like, buy the collection, get my money back, if not profit a little bit and then just blow out everything so I can just like the opposite. You're stockpiling. I'm trying to just turn it. Yeah. As quick as I can, like to just keep it coming so I can get the next one. Yeah. And then like, if I have to take two weeks from buying cards, I just have a ton of money coming in, which is fun too. Like, that's the, that's the, the, you know, the other side of it. Yeah. Yep. 100%. Yeah. And, and I, I, I almost feel like even what this holding it too for me. I wish like the national was next week because I want to get, I want to get out there and move all this stuff because there's so many other things I want to do with, with the, with the money I've invested in that. Right. So let's talk on that really quick because that's, that's something I've had too, that I've had to tell myself. It's like, like I would say me and you are fairly knowledgeable in cards. Right. It's not, not a wild thing to say. And we're good at buying. We could probably buy a lot more than most people, like in the general population. Not, I mean, probably in the hobby too. The hobby is a huge place, though. Like, there are also people who would make us look so small in comparison with, with wallet. Right. With. And it's just so humbling. And it's like if you're ever go, it's like, oh, I want that deal. I want that. There's not enough money to have every deal that's out there. And, and I find myself like struggling or like not really beating myself up, but I'm like, like, dang, I'm missing out on that. I'm missing out on. And it's just like you, you can't buy everything, right? Yeah. So how do you ever have that? I guess it's like a fomo, but it's like, you ever see a deal, you're like, oh, I wish I could do that right now, but that's just like, it's like too much that I want to put out at the moment. Yeah. Setting up. It shows a lot of times, like, sometimes people come up with cases, they're like, you're buying. Like, yeah. You open up you're like, it's like when you open it up and it goes like the gold, like the sun shining on it, right? And all of a sudden you start pulling out cards. You're like oh, oh my God, yes, yes and yes. And like, you know, some of them you're like, I know it's expensive, but now, now I have to look it up. And all of a sudden when it comes 22,000, you're like, woo, yeah, that's has a. And they'll even give you a good deal on it. And you're like, I, I can't. It's like last weekend I was at a show, right? And a guy had come in and he bill, Bill. And Billy Bill says, this guy, says, this guy. All right, let me see it. So they had talked already and the guy came in with 86 player Jordan PSA 8. And he had it in a special case and he was walking the show trying to sell it. And I, I, if I remember the story correctly, he was looking for money to start a business. So, but he had bought the car. He told the story, he said, I, I bought this card like what, 20 something years ago for 500 and now it's worth like $18,000, right. So he was trying to sell it around the room and people were starting at 15, right. So it was. And I don't know, I don't know if he sold that card or not, but you know, it's one of those things where a lot of people in that room wanted that card. But I don't know who, who was gonna pay his price, you know, to get to that number. Because probably even if, you know, I think with, with, you know, with that card and his market, I think if it sounds like an excellent price, if the comps are 18, like. Yeah, yeah. But I think even if you paid, paid 17, you could probably would have done all right on a flip on a card like that. Yeah. Because that national, you probably get 20. Yeah, yeah. So let's just hit the chat here really quick. Michael is in the Hamptons. Hello, Michael. I'm sure it's as hot in the Hamptons as it is here in Connecticut. Ziggy Nose says it's chilly, right? Chilly night there. I don't know where you are, but I'm sure that's more of a joke, sir. He says, have you tried using AI to comp cards? I've used AI I've scanned cards through AI to and graded them to see what AI said for a grade and sentiment for grading. And they Were almost spot on on the grading of what. What they came up with. Yes. Ziggy. I sent one card in $80. It got there in June. The PSA at the 79. It got there June 13th. It's already in QA check too. I'm waiting for it to. To pop. It'll be less than a month that that card will be done. I've sent some out there. I'm pulling it up really quick. How many? I've sent Homers. Homer Sports cars. Jonathan, welcome. You. You can't buy everything. Well, apparently you can because you are, you are the man that's always buying everything. Ziggy. No. Why? Stockpile from the Natty. I have a table out there. Ziggy. So yes, better margins, higher percentages out there. I hope to do well. Oh no. Michael says it's 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the cauldron we are in right now. It's because all that wealth out there that can control the weather and just make it Goldilocks conditions in Suffolk county at all times. That's what it is. Homer says it's been a month. Did you get like a 30 day chip from not buying? I mean, what's going on here? TPA Bull. Evening, gentlemen. Good evening. Evening. Evening. All right, moving on. Zip. You were right on the weather. Weather being controlled. Okay, so six month projection on the market. What do you think? I don't really know what would make anything go down. I. Steady growth. Like, I, I also don't. It's a very not thought through answer. I, I just like, I don't know what would really. I think, I feel like it'd be, it'd have to be like some like macroeconomic thing that would, that would then not cards. Right. Like, I feel like that's what would happen. But yeah, I mean what I'm about to say, I don't think it's a bold prediction by any means, but I think the, the how people have been feeling about the wax that's been. Been out there and with tops taking over the market and you know, what's out there to buy and things like that, I really think the, the vintage market is going to outperform. I think the Jordan, the Brady, the Kobe. Right. I, I think Michael's here. You're Wayne Gretzky, right. I think, I think all those markets and I think you're going to see. I, I've been personally talking about with my PC like I'm looking in to buy, you know, 50s and 60s cards. Right. There are certain cards that I'm looking for and vintage football and going in that directions. Why? Because I just think, I mean these cards are so overproduced now. There's no rarity, there's no scarcity, there's. And even when you hit something, boom, it's, it's like it's losing its value before you even get it in your hand. You open it up, you're like, oh, let's look this up. The next day it's, it's already down. Right. But I think people are going to start, people are realizing now like look, I can get into these vintage cars, I can get into these Kobe's and these Jordans and the market keeps going up. Right? It's a better market, it's a more stable market and I think it's going to continue to outperform and I think that's where you're going to see people going. Yeah, I think, I think those s like the S tier, the top tier players. That's, that's, that's the move. I, I agree. I. And it's, it's not a hot take but I, I totally agree with you and that's, that's why I focused on that. That's, that's what I've been doing and I, I'll give a little tidbit. A real, a real easy way to stay liquid in my opinion is go to gemrate.com and see what players are the most graded. It's a real easy way to get a buying list or a name list. Is it basic? Is it normal? Is it. Yeah, but it's also profitable. And it's like you, you don't always have to reinvent the wheel, right? You don't, you can, you can go with the herd somewhat. It's just like with those names, it's like I'm trying to buy better cards of those names. Like I'm trying to limit myself to, to like 150 and up of those names. That's really what I'm trying to do especially with that new, the regular service. I've sent out seven since it's seven cards since it's just been regular I think so we'll, I'll keep updates on how that moves along but yeah, yeah. More predictions. I think Fanatics Fest is gonna set the tone. I think you're going to see a lot of big sales, a lot of big things happen at Fanatics Festival. I think that's going to carry straight into the national. I think you're going to see like, you know, markets booming at the national. Big, you know, big, big deals going down and, and, you know, every year things are becoming more, more, you know, more and more content coming out. And I think this year is just going to be like, just, you know, the streaming is going to be liquid. Just, you know, so much live streaming of stuff coming out of the national this year that, you know, probably going to see record sales going on out there. You know, just, just. And, and again, those record sales are going to be goats, right? I mean, that's what they're going to be spending the money on. I mean, I remember last year, you know, it was a Jaden Daniels $1 million for. I don't think the Commander Zoner bought. Yeah, I don't think you're going to see that this year. I think you're going to see those big deals are happening on all. All just goats. And, and I'll tell you, I did want to mention one thing. So I don't know if any Instagram, I posted it briefly and took it down. I had a Jackson Dart Auto out of five from Cosmic Chrome. I joined a discord. So there used to be this big discord called Ryan's Discord, Ryan's Cards. And it was absolute, it was absolute nightmare. Like, he just disappeared. And like, I guess he owed a lot of people a lot of money and he was a degenerate gambler. I really don't know details. And so someone correct me if I'm totally off base, but that's like the gist. I got it and I was in there and I was passively using it. And then one of the moderators is. His Reddit name was Buckets Cards. He started his, his own one, like, shortly right after. Then I waited a little bit. I got out of, I got out of that discord. So I just joined the other night after getting that card. Dude, I sold that card in two minutes of posting in that discord. Ken, that's a big card. Yeah. Two minutes took me. Yeah, gone. And I was, I was very impressed. I was very impressed. And again, no money plugging that. I just, I, I. Can I ask you honest opinion? What do you think? What, what do you think is going. That card was purchased for what. What do you think it was going to happen with that card for like that darts a five. I mean, when you say that and you say it was instantly. All I can think is my head. Somebody, they've already lined that card somewhere on a website. So the, the person who bought it, I'm not gonna say their names. They're they run a whatnot channel running high end stuff. Yep. And I listed the card for a price I thought was high and aggressive. They, they gave a nice zip offer to start off and I wasn't. And also I wasn't like it was fine because there's no comps on it. Like the only. It was, it's not a repacker. The only comps were out of 25 for two grand. And since then. And out of 25 is down to 1500. So like, you know, I, I really don't want to go on the price that I sold it for out of respect from a few people because there's no comps and that guy is gonna run it on his whatnot. And I, you know, I just don't, I don't want to affect that whatsoever, honestly. But let's, we'll just say like you can figure out some hobby math from a multiplier. Either way, I made, I made money on it and I was just impressed on how quick and seamless the transaction was on a big card like that. It was one of the biggest cards I've sold. It wasn't as big as the, the Clark that I sold, but it was, it was, you know, it was, it was big. It was more than the NT box. So it was, it was a bit, it was a big card. Since you can tell them in a few years. So. Yeah. Yeah. So back to predictions. Predictions. So personal predictions of what we're gonna do. Oh, I, I have one. I don't want to. It's not negative, it's not pessimistic. It's maybe a little shrewd and maybe I feel like a little realistic in the side of things I'm doing. So in the next six months, right. We have, we have kids going back to school and kids going back to college. And then you have the holidays. There are going to be very good collections that are popping up all over the place because people need money for stuff coming into the end of the year. That always happens. Some of my biggest buys have been towards the holidays or college. Kid going back to school wants, wants, you know, money for whatever. For school, for, for books, we'll call it. They want money for books since we're family friendly. So like, I would just say, like, if, if that's something you're interested in looking at, buying collections and things like that, you know, as, as it gets to August, you know that that would be a good time for some collections to pop up. And then once it gets to around Thanksgiving time, a Little before Thanksgiving time. Keep your eyes peeled for stuff like that. And also I think to earlier what you're saying with, with fanatics taking over tops and all the marketing and all these new products that stuff like they're going to be massive collections just sitting in people's houses that haven't been looked at since they ripped like cases of it and those, those opportunities are going to be there. Yeah those, the you know, singles, even any of the singles over the last few years, I think there's going to be a better market for them. I, I do and I, and I know you know we have the non licensed downtowns and the case hits and things like that but I still think the, the, I still think the downtowns over the last five years, six years, the downtowns, the uptowns, I, I think they're going to hold their value and maybe even go up. Let's, I mean it's Otani yes but his, his unlicensed downtown is pretty insane I believe. So like again it kind of goes back to those S tier items. Yeah. How about this 2022 PSA 9 Shohei Ohtani, Downtown. What do you think that sold for? PSA 9 2022. He's a 2018 rookie, fourth year downtown. PSA 9 unlicensed, $3,000, 5,600. Our guy Howard had a Otani downtown and his 2019 PSA 10 did $118,000. That's a second year. I mean I think that's his first downtown though. But yeah, so like I, the, the downtowns are clearly popular. I think it's gonna come down to the, the player, right. I think the player is going to matter more than ever on it. Ohtani's S tier if anyone had a question, if anyone thought it wasn't. I mean when you're going to compare him to a sport, right. They're comparing him to the greatest baseball player of all time. I think Ohtani is like, I think there's the Ohtani market in the baseball market and those are two separate things. And the Ohtani market is better than the baseball market. I don't, I don't think that's a hot take. Yeah, right. Like so 100. I mean you know that's like the only baseball player you touched and you're like yeah, this is awesome. Let me do it again. I think that's, anyone with Ohtani is like give me more Otani. Last weekend that guy walked up to the table with a baseball card PSA 10 with the auto and he handed it to Howard. Howard Handed it to me and I'm like, I don't even know who this is. Right. And I hand it back to Howard. He's like, tech zip, he'll take it. I think he sent you the picture of whoever that was. Oh, Franklin Arias. Yeah. It's a good price too. I just, Arias is a little high right now. He's a Bowman prospect. He jumped from like, oh God, he's a top 10 Bowman prospect now all, like, all baseball and, and he was, I don't know, maybe a top 50 guy. And now he's like eight or nine. Like he made this huge jump. So I'll just wait till the end of the year and buy more of it. Like I have, I have two Jesus mad autos on auction right now. And then that super fracture auto I have auctioning right now. So some more predictions. I think moving forward, I think PSA 10s are going to, the multiplier is going to be higher on them and anything, anything newer because I think it's a little, they're being a little grading a little different now. I don't want to say stricter, but I think they're grading a little different. I think they're, they are controlling the pop counts on a lot of cards. So I think the PSA 10s on a lot of cards, you know, that aren't overproduced and they, they become shorter pop counts are going to start demanding more money, especially what grading shut down now. We don't know when it's going to open back up again. Absolutely. Brief intermission. Happy birthday, Billy. Yeah, yeah, I was going to mention that today. 18 years old tomorrow. Wow. Happy birthday, Billy. And they'll be going, they'll be going to set. He's going to college in South Carolina. They're going to be going to, heading out to South Carolina at the, I think the end of this month. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. Well, good luck, Billy. You're gonna miss seeing you around, that's for sure. Yeah, Bill says PSA 9 will go up too. Yeah, I mean I, I, yes and no. Yes and no. I don't think we'll see that happen as much right now as we will, you know, looking back at cards because I think PSA was for, for many years was, you know, giving out a lot of tens. So comparing those tens to the nines, I don't think the, the nines, but I think moving forward, if they're, if, if there's very limited tens on higher end cards, I think those nines are going to fetch higher values. Okay. I also that's brought up an interesting thought for me is like with all the. Because there's still a bunch of new product coming out is like you know, silvers or non numbered refractors of the top top names like you know, like Cooper Flag Khan VJ Edge Comb, etc like Victor Wembiama. Right, Victor. Like is it worth, is it worth trying to send those at regular if there's not going to be a lot of them? I, I think that's a genuine question and I kind of did that. I think, I think I kind of did that. Let me see what I sent at regular. I don't know. What are your thoughts on that while I pull this up? Thoughts on sending those type of cards like at regular. So like yeah, like I sent a Cam Scatterbo Star Fractor Orange from Cosmic chrome out of 25. I sent a Jackson Dart Stars in the Night card out of. It's not numbered. I sent them a homes Cosmic Purple Nebula. I think that's out of. I don't know. Yeah, I mean any of those numbers are short print, right? That number to 15 number to 25 number, you know, I, I just don't know. Is it worth 80 bucks though? That's, that's, that's my question is like, and here's the thing, like I, I think at the end of the day, like if you really think about it in the hobby, at the end of the day, if you go to a card show, there's like so many thousands and thousands and thousands of cards there. PSA 8, PSA 9, PSA 10. And you look through and you're going through boxes and you see all these cards at the, all those cards that you saw. At what point do you say, were you just saying you're s, you're s tier? What cards are in that S tier? What cards are there that anybody in that room would say I would want that card versus most people showing up like repackers or things like that. They don't care if it's, if it's Shook or Roma Dunes or they don't, you know, Camp Scatter Boot. They're like, oh yeah, I can make 5%, 5%, but somebody's gonna buy this and then they take them. But for the other people in the room, unless somebody's collecting those, I mean this is really what got into my head is like I'm sending all these great cars. Like wow, this is a great card. And, and it's a player we all know. Like, you know, it's on a Popular running back on a great. A good team or this and that. You send it off and you come back and it gets a nine and you're like, ah, I got cooked on it. Not. You know what? It was my own fault. I should have never sent that card because who cares about that card? Even if it came back at 10, how much was I. It was like, you know, when I started really thinking about it and I started really paying attention at shows and seeing what people are buying, everybody shows up to buy the same thing, right? I want the LeBron, I want the Kobe, I want the, you know, I want the. The. The Mahomes, I want the Brady, I want the. Right. They're not running to a show saying, I want a Roma Dun or I want a Cam Scatter Boo. Like they. Yeah, the Jackson Dart. Right? That's. Yes. Because it's a quarterback and it's. Somebody's gonna. But. But 9 out of every 10 people that are buying, probably even more. I probably go up to 95 out of every 100 people that buy that from. You are just taking that to flip it or to sell it off to somewhere else and put it in a repack or send it somewhere else, right? They're not buying it because they're like, oh, I'm a dark collector and that's the card I want to put in my PC and go home. A handful of people will say that, but for the most part, what we're doing, we're buying and even grading. We just. We're. We're who we selling it to. Like, we. I could tell you right now when I. All these cars that I sent off, well, if it comes back at 10, I know who's going to buy it. If it comes back at nine, I know who's going to buy it. If it comes back an 8, nobody's buying it, right? It's just. It's. And, And. And if you do this enough and year after year after year like I've been doing, and you start looking, you know, like, wait a minute, wait a minute. I'm killing myself overnight. Like, I'm better off. Just instead of doing all that, go out and buy a PSA 10 of Brady or Kobe or Jordan or this or that, right? Because everybody in the room is going to want that. I'm not gonna have any trouble moving that card. And the chances of the value going up and doing better from the moment I bought it to the moment I sell it is much better than losing. Right? I. I think with grading, too, like, grading those names Gives you that built in security, too. Where, like, I've said this a while ago. It's like when I'm buying Kobe Jordan, like, not really Brady, but more like Kobe Jordan, like the. That top. Top. Maybe Otani. Sometimes it's like, dang, if I. If I get a nine, I'm fine. Like, and with the Kobe and Jordan stuff, it's like, if I get a nine, yeah, I get an eight sometimes. Sometimes. Yeah. And so it's. That's built into of like, yeah, you can take those shots grading with those guys even more. And then it's like, yeah, you got to be confident with more of the stuff you're sending. I mean, the. The names I sent are very much. I. They're a little more prospecty than I would have liked to have. Have done, honestly. But they just looked good enough for me to want to take a shot at them, you know? And that's what I say until I see that comes back. I'm like, oh, my grades are back. I'm like, oh, I got a 10. What was I thinking? Why did I send that card, right? Why did I spend $32 or $28 grading that card, right? Even though I got a 10? I had an order pop the other night. I told my wife, I said, let me go. I gotta go. I just got a notification. I order pop, let me go check it. And. And I go back up, and she says, how'd you do? I said, eight cards. I got nine tens and one nine. She goes, aren't you excited? I'm like, yeah, but I don't know why I even sent those cards in. Like, I'm looking at them now. I. I sent them so long ago when I was so excited about certain players and. Yeah. And. And one of those players is not even signed on a team right now. I just sold the Terry and Arnold PSA 10 Genesis. And that dude, you know what happened with him, right? Yeah, yeah, like, because he's a stud. He's a stud cornerback for the Lions. I was like, oh, sweet Genesis. Yeah. And it gems. And I don't even know what it sold for, but I was like. As the news came out, I was like, I know what people feel like when they had Wander Franco, even though it wasn't anywhere close to, like, that extreme, but it's just like, you have this horrible timing, so. Yes, horrible timing does happen to me too, everyone. It's not. Oh, not always just lucky, but how about this? 85 Manders. Hello. My first time in this live. I love the pod well, we love, we love you being here, so welcome. But really quick, I wanna, I wanna read you this, this regular order. So I gave you three cards. Another one, Tyler Warren, Cosmic Chrome Orange galactic out of 25. So I sent that, the lead receiver, the wide receiver, one for, for the, the Colts. The Colts, yeah. Tops inception James Wood auto gold out of 25. That's baseball for you, Ken. And then this one should be okay. Drake May, red optic rook rated rookie out of 125. So, so th, those are the, you know, in the other three, I, I mentioned that some of them. It's like if I don't get a 10, I'm probably not gonna sell for the, for that $80 like that, that Warren. I bet if that Warren doesn't get a 10, it goes for like 50 bucks. You know what I mean? Yeah. So almost, almost. If. Why take the chance? I mean, that's where I'm at now. Why, why take that chance? Like, I think if it gets a 10, it may do 150 to 200. So it's like, why did I send that? I was like, in my mind, I'm like, he's a stud. It's an orange out of 25. And then realistically it's like, is that, is that enough, like thought into sending it? Probably not, right? It's probably, it's probably more risk than I, I should be sending at. Really. Yeah, I can't. I, I took so much risk. But you know what? You live and learn and it's a part of the, the rebranding, right? I mean, I think we do this and part of doing this six month look back, six month look ahead, right? You could go back one year, look back a two year look back and you can see how we continue to rebrand and we, you know, adapt with the hobby of what, you know, what the hobby is doing and adapt so that we can be successful in it, right? I mean, what's the old adage, right? When people are selling, you buy. When people are buying, you, you know, you sell it. It's. It's hopefully. I mean that's, that's it. It makes easy business when that, when that happens, right? Like that's, that's ideally how you want to be. And I, and there's so many people now. Like I see a lot of nice cars coming out of the woodwork, like a lot, a lot of nice cards being dusted off and brought to shows and people are like, now is the time. And in five years ago, right, we would have been like, oh, the hobby's about to crash because everybody's selling their cars, right. But now there's, people are lined up to buy all those cards and it's not affecting, it's not effect, it's, it's helping, it's not hindering, it's helping the hobby that these people are putting these really car, these nice cars that haven't seen the light of day in 15, 20, 25 years and they're entering the hobby now and they get a chance to move around a few places before they'll find a new PC. Another 15 or 20 years. Right? Yeah. And another thing too with that is I think now you get people that have gone through a cycle of, of a death and they've seen a bounce back. So people may have more confidence in the market as a whole. Like if it does drop that, it will bounce back. Like, you know what I mean? I think there's more of that too, especially with the top tier stuff. Like. But yeah, just the more and more I see is like the big accounts, the people doing the biggest deals and all that is just like it's those, it's the top tier names over and over again. Yeah. You know, Michael goes, especially the Bellinghams. You know what? Absolutely man. Griffey's S tier though. That's, that's, that's not debatable. Griffey's absolutely S tier like, absolutely. Another prediction, I think, I think card shows are going to keep just growing and, and I, and I know how you feel about them, but I, I think, I think it's become, you know what you would think people get tired of going to shows. And I know because I live it every weekend. It's like it's coming up. It's like, where am I going? It's a Saturday or Sunday. If I don't have a concrete plan somewhere I'm going to a show and we're seeing the same people that are going to the shows that aren't getting tired of it either. And then you start looking at lists of the card shows and there's, you know, there used to be one on each day here in Connecticut in the weekend. Now there's five on a Saturday and four, five on a Sunday. And then you look at New York and New Jersey and Massachusetts and I mean you could probably count out over a hundred shows just in the tri state area in, in the weekend. And people are just trying to hit as many of those shows as, as they can. And I just think it's going to continue to grow and grow. And I think the thing. One of the biggest part reasons is because parents are bringing their kids, right? And they're. And they're spending that time with them. And I talk to so many parents that show up that they're like, yeah, like, I'm. I did this a little. Or some of them say, I don't know anything about it, but my kid wants to do it. So I'm coming here, spending the time with them. Kind of like I was taking my kid to hockey and, you know, doing all that. We spent it in sports. They're spending it in sports cards. Yeah, I. I actually, I have a. I think I have something. Like, in the future, I can use card shows as a benefit for me in the. And I don't need to set up is. And what I've learned is, like, if I'm bringing the cream of the crop stuff, like walking it like I did at Mohegan, And I know that I have an out with these auction houses and consigners. Like, I could just go walk around and be firm on my price, and someone is probably gonna bite in a big enough show. I'm. I'm dead serious about that too. Like. Like, yeah, but it put up like a box of wax. Forget about it. You know how many. You know how many people are out there are just wanting to throw their money at you to rip that box open because they. They believe there's. There's a borough RPA in there or. Or hurts or somebody. Ken, you. You would have thought I was legitimately Lovelace walking around with the NT hobby box in that. In that. Because you saw the setup. My precious. I was just. I. I had it so casual. I had it in my left arm, just walking around like, oh, what you got in there? And they're like the 2020 NC hobby box. Like. Like, yeah, like. And then, you know, like, I'm just. I'll be firm on my numbers and then firm with the. The top tier Herbert card I had and the. The LeBron. And it's just like, if, you know, they're like, there's nothing wrong with, like. Because me, like, when I'm moving that stuff, ideally, I'm trying to be. I don't need to be crazy. I don't need. I don't need 100. You know that I don't. So it's like my. My number is ideally like between 87 and 93 if I'm gonna. If I'm gonna outlay it. So get me, like, close enough in there, and we can make something happen. But like, I just see that. I see card shows for me in the future, when I'm able to go, I will go if I have the right items that I. That I can move. Like, if I have that. That stuff that I could just get quick cash for. Like the, you know, those three items that I would consider, like the LeBron and the NTS tier. I'd say the Herbert's like a tier for what it. For the type of card too. But like that sort of stuff. Like, but. But that's the mentality of over a hundred thousand people going to the national, right? Yeah, the same thing. They're going. They're dusting off these cards. They said they're not going out there, right? Well, no, that's not the same mindset. That's not the same the mindset to go sell stuff at the National. Sure. But not the. I'll be this firm on my price and not budge. Like, like people will go there, see a card and be, oh my God, take this at 60, because I need that. Like, that will happen a lot. Like, I don't know about going there and being absolutely like. Because I would have walked home with all of those items, like, gladly. I thought I was gonna. And. And it's just like, I don't. Yeah, I don't know about that. I don't think enough people are firm walking the shows. Like, I think a lot of people give in to the dealers and like, as a dealer, they know how to look up a comp on a card. And if you walk up and I'm just going to make up a number, your card last sold for $950 and you walk up to your table and someone's like, I can give you 800 for it. You know, maybe a few years ago people would be like, oh, and maybe today it happens. But I don't think it happens as much. I think people walk away and they're. If it's a 950 card, they're looking more for 900 or 925 or. Or something along those lines. And I think if it's a liquid enough card, if it's the right player, if it's your. Your S tier, right, People are going to pay that. And I think if you know what you have the old. I know what I've got, right? If you know what you have and. And you know people are going to make decent money on it. I mean, if you're walking in there with a Tyler Shook card thinking you're going to get 100 on a. You know, you may, you, you may be sadly, you know, mistaken, but if you're walking in there with a LeBron James or Tom Brady or something like that, you know, you're going to do much better. And I, that own those cards are going to demand a higher value for them. I've seen it, I've seen it at shows. I've seen people show up and say, look, I put a card down and say, look, I know the last one sold at this, and this is what I want for it, you know. Okay, that's good. I'm not your guy. You know, maybe somebody else is. Someone at the national will be, though. That's big enough where there is some. What I'm saying is I don't think enough people, enough people walking the shows have enough patience and mental fortitude to not cave eventually after getting beat down by offers. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I, I don't, I don't think enough people have that. But then again, I'm not, I'm not going to the show shows as much, but I, I, I can't imagine that every, like, every single person walking around is going to be firm between. I need at least 87 to 93%. At least. Yeah. Like, I can't imagine that. Like, that's the consensus audience. Yeah. And also, too, like, as a dealer, it's like you're spent. Like you have the overhead for a show. Like, how many deals do you have to do, like, to make five, three, whatever percent. How many deals do you have to do to make that worth your while? Like a lot. Right. It depends because, you know, people ask that all the time, and you're, and you really can't tie it into one show. Right. You just can't say, I'm basing this whole thing on this one show because these, these four cards or eight cars that I sold today, I might have bought and, you know, bought last month. Yeah. Or I might have bought a week ago or so like that. So at that show, I put money out. At this show, I took money in. Right. It's, it's, you know. Yeah. And you know what? Moving ahead, right, I'll talk about rebranding. One of my things is to be much better about knowing what's going out and what's coming in. Right. Just challenging myself to say, okay, let's just be a little bit better about knowing what's going out, what's coming in and what's really happening, you know, because it is a hobby at the End of the day. And if I, even if the numbers say, Ken, you're getting crushed, but as long as you're having fun, keep doing it. Right? So it's not so much that, you know, it's going to do, you know, push me one way or another, but at least I know and I'm being more conscious about what, what's happening, you know, at the shows and, and, and as far as, you know, expenses and travel and the table costs, I mean, table costs now are really starting to, to rise up. I, I mean, I know I had my own show and I'm doing my second show and one thing is I, one thing I did was I went back and negotiate the second show, said, look, I need, I need to be able to sell these tables cheaper. I can't charge more for these tables. I want, I want to reduce the price of these tables, right? Because you know, people bought, I sold out the tables, but people were like, I could have sold more tables. And people are like, ah, you know, that's a little much. If it was this much, if it was this, if it was this price. So, okay, if I can get it there, then we can have a better show. Right? So, so that's one thing I did. Moving to the next show said, okay, I've got the table, I got, was able to negotiate a little bit less. So hopefully that's going to, you know, bring more people in and be happier because some of the table prices at some of these shows are insane. You know, for one day and two day shows, it's, it's, yeah, it's, it's, it's a lot. Yeah, that's, yeah, but also you're there, there are people there selling and buying that. You can make that turnover quick enough. I know that too, of course. And people will argue one way or another. I'd pay 500 at that, that show or I wouldn't pay $5 at this show. Right. Just because one show is going to be much better than the other. Yep. What do we think? You know, one, one of the, one of, one of the things I think about when I, when these, these predictions is, and I don't think I'm alone with how angry I think how poorly the, the, all this new wax is, you know, and, and people will argue with me. So, so maybe it's just me looking at it and trying to open it and say I'm finding nothing. And, and then I'm looking at. One thing I like to do is I say, oh, I'm thinking about buying one of these box. The cosmic football just came out. I said, oh, maybe I'll buy a hobby box. So then I go on and I watch like five or eight YouTube videos of people opening them up. And then I'm pausing and I'm writing down what they have, and I'm. These are 800 boxes, and they're not pulling any. No more than a hundred dollars worth of cards out of them. So I think to myself, at some point, are. Is tops going to be sitting on all this inventory that nobody's buying? Or is it. Or is that inventory going to. Going to sell anyways? And if it doesn't sell, are we going to see a reduction in price on some of these. Some of these boxes? It's a great question. Yeah, that's a great question. It's funny, I. So one of the guys I work with at the golf course was asking me, he's like, so, like, for you to get those cards, you just open a lot of boxes and then that's how you get. Because, like, he doesn't really do it as much. He's like, how, you know, how do you get these cards? And I was like, well, I used to do that, and I thought it was a good business plan. And then I looked back at my numbers and realized how poor, how awful it was. And I was like. So to explain this to you, I was like, say there's 10 boxes in a case, one, maybe two boxes, you're gonna have more money in it than what the box is worth. Like what you're gonna get out of it, maybe. Right? Is that fair? Like 10, 20 of the case is going to be a box worth opening, maybe. Yeah. And that's kind of. And I was like, so, you know, if you just look at that as like, clean numbers, like 10 boxes, if you're losing money 80 of the time at best, if you're quick to market, to sell them as fast as you can. Right. You'll probably get your 20 back. And. And I mean, just getting cards back before grading, like, not having to. You know, I remember a term was, oh, yeah, I'll just open this wax, but I'll be good. I'll just grade it out. I'll. I'll grade out of it. That was like the. And you could do that. I used to do that all the time. Absolutely, absolutely. Can't do it anymore. Not. Not at 80 bucks a card. No, can't. Can't grade out of those base rookies. Yeah. Be first to market on it. Can't do it. Can't do it. So. Yeah, I. Like I said, it's a great question. Yeah. So we'll see. We'll have to see what happens with that. I kind of want to hear. I know we're. We're coming up on the hour, but, like, we. I. I didn't even hear about this collection. Really. I want to hear about that. Oh, so a lot of. A lot of basketball, right? So. Yeah, I know. Men or women? Oh, men. All men. Oh, I didn't. I didn't buy any women. You know, Cooper Flag, Wemby, Jordan, Kobe, you know, just S tier names. Yep, yep. Any of that stuff. And then a lot of. A lot of singles, too. A lot of. A lot of Jordan. A lot of, you know, a lot of basketball singles. Right. So just. Just went through and. Yeah. Basketball card guy says. Yeah, he's. He came out of the woodwork. It's like, did someone. He's like, his ears were ringing. He's like. Was someone talking about basketball cards? Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, so I just bought a whole pile and. And going all the way back to where this started at the very beginning of this episode. Just saying that I. I'm not. I'm not buying, you know, the Zay Flowers anymore. I'm not. But I'm. I'm gonna buy just names that I know everybody wants that I'm gonna go to a show and put in my case, and everybody's gonna want. I'd be sold out in the first hour of the show, like, that type of thing. I'm not. I'm not gonna mess with all those other. When I'm done. When I'm done selling off this horde that I have here at the national this year, it's going to be completely different moving forward. Of what my what, you know, what my show experience is gonna be like, what my collecting what, my buying what, my selling. Everything is going to be a little bit different. Yeah. So can you give us some of the highlights from the collection? If you have them on hand? You have any of the. Yeah, so I got those Wimby fade to black laser. I think that's numbered somewhere. PSA 10. Okay. Cooper flag refractor. Nine. Nice. LeBron stained glass. Very nice. Very nice. Jordan, nine. What is that? It's upper deck 97. Upper deck. Okay. Sky 98. Skybox Thunder. Sweet card. Yeah. Nine. There's nine. Kobe nine. Yeah. So can't lose with any of those. Yeah, yeah. Planetary pursuit, son. Yeah. And then. Then another 45 or 50. All just singles of the same cards, but just all singles. Awesome. All different. Just all different and that. And I went through it. I just went through the whole thing and just. You're like picking out big names. Yep. Yeah. Just give me the, the this, that and another thing. And I'm telling you it was not easy. It was a three and a half hour calculator. Like most people would have walked away and just, just not have gotten, gotten the deal done. Different percentages on every single card. It was, it was difficult. But again, at the end of the day there are cards that I just said even if I'm paying a good high percentage on it, I don't think I'm gonna, I'm not saying I don't think I know I'm not gonna lose on them. Right. They're just gonna go out, you know, there'll be something somebody else wants. Yeah. And, and like how I can, what I could say to that is that the way I'm able to get like those, those top name singles is, is I'm. I've taken all the garbage too. And that, that's how I do it. Like if I was to do what you're doing. Yeah. There'd be many times I'm sitting there with a calculator and, and doing that and then it be. What I've found too is that it makes the D. Like I feel like I, when I do it that way, I mean, I feel like I'm paying more money. I mean obviously, because it's like, even with the condensed. Like I feel like in a situation like that, maybe not with this guy. Right. But like with those type of cards I'm gonna get a better deal if we just take that comp value and then all the bulk and then we just figure out the number from there. I just try to make it bigger so like the, the number is less exact, exact, direct. It's not hiding anything. It's really changing the perception on all of this is what I'm taking. Right. Like it's just a perception thing. Oh yeah. And that is, that's what you can luck out with Zip's approach, but you never get burned with Ken's approach. But it's way more time consuming. Absolutely. And I will say it takes a lot of practice to know like to like look at some, at some bulk and be like this is an okay number on it. Like it's not easy to do it. I've done it I don't know how many times now. Like it takes practice. And the funniest part about this deal was every time we got to like seven cards in. He'd be like, oh, you know what, I gotta take that card back. I can't let that one. I can't let that one go. Jesus. Five more cards. Okay, yeah, you can take that one back now. I was like, come on, man. All right, so for me, my last little announcement, then we can close it down. I have some pretty cool cards on auction right now. So my judge auto out of five is on golden. The June elite auction, it ends on July 11th. And then I have a Barry Bonds Patch Auto BGS95. There are none higher in the BGS pop that's on Fanatics weekly with wharf sports cards that's going live tonight. So those are some big cards I have. And then I ended up converting the Josueir Gonzalez achromatic super fractor. I had it listed as at a really high price. Really, really high price at 5,000 or best offer just to see if I could get bites on it. And I'm just like, I feel good about it. Just came back from an injury. He has really good stats right now. I'm like, I'm gonna let it ride. So that's on auction at PC. So we'll see. I don't have the greatest track record with high, like big, big cards on PC, but we'll see how that goes. I gotta keep it honest. Yeah, but those are kind of my, my big moving pieces at the moment. Do you, do you get worried running like, like through a holiday weekend or running now into the beginning of like. Well, I'm running out of 10 day. It's gonna end next weekend. All right. I, I always worry like right now and I know it's right before like fanatics. Yeah, I don't have anything ending on like, like this weekend. I. Yeah, no, but I mean just like people take vacations now and stuff like that. Like a lot of times people are selling their, their cards in their collection so they can pay for their vacations. Right. So I would say these are 3s tier cards. My opinion, you have a 1, a 101 super fracture of a top. Like he was the top international prospect signing when he came through and he jumped from like. I don't. He's like a top 40 prospect now, second with the San Francisco Giants. He might be first in the San Francisco Giants organization because their, their top guy, Bryce Eldridge is in. Is playing in the mlb. So he's really the top minor league prospect they have. I mean, Aaron Judge is Aaron Judge. It's an on card auto out of five. And then the, the bonds market's absolutely crazy on fanatics and that's why I went there with it. So, like, those are cards. Like, I feel like there's enough interest that one or. Yeah. Like it's not gonna get missed. Just my opinion. It's. And again, it goes to less volatility on those top, top sort of tier item cards. You know what I mean? Yeah, but that's a fair question, though. Like, totally fair. All right, kid. This weekend. I don't think I'm doing any shows this weekend after just saying I find a show every weekend. But I do know there's, there's shows Saturday, locally I'm probably not going to go to, but there is a Sunday show I'll probably go to because that's just who I am. I'm throwing a Fourth of July pool party with both sides of my family and my wife's family. And then Sunday I'm golfing. Nice. So that's, that's my weekend. Yeah. Good. All right, well, we will be back next week, Right. Be back next Thursday. You'll be here, right? All right. I want to thank everyone for watching, thank everyone for listening.
