Pokemon ttcg overdrive with jared and. All right, guys, we're back at another episode of Pokemon TCG Overdrive. Me and John. Yu-Gi-Oh guys, we're back for another episode, and today we're doing something a little different, doing Pokemon hot takes. So we're just going to kind of list off hot takes, discuss them. Why we think if we get into some debates here, you know. Okay, first off, we'll. So, Yu-Gi-Oh we'll jump right into that right after this quick break. All right, we're already gonna jump into that. Okay, so just first, for those of you who don't know what hot takes are, it's like something controversial, something that a lot of people wouldn't agree with or some. A lot of people would agree with, and then a lot of people wouldn't. Yu-Gi-Oh So I'm gonna go ahead and start us off with a very hot of the. Like, a hottest of the hottest takes that Charizard ex. The old one, the dark one that used to dominate, is actually bad. And a lot of people would disagree with me by saying it's so good. What do you mean? And I gotta admit, I've been destroyed by Charizard a ton of times, but I can't actually talk about this because, like, I never actually, actually played against that card. Yu-Gi-Oh That. How do. How. How is that possible? I don't know. I find it hard to believe that. No, like, for real, I've never played against it. Okay, so I guess I'll be doing the talking here then. So for me, it's a very slippery slope card. Right. If you lose one or two Prizm cards, then, Yu-Gi-Oh you're gonna start falling down. But true decks aren't gonna give up a Prizm card. Right. If your deck is good, you're not gonna fall into Charizard trap. And therefore, Charizard only prevails against weak decks that, like giving up Prizm cards. And that just means it's bad. So. Or. Or decks that actually give Prizm cards on purpose. Yu-Gi-Oh Which. So, like, not many. Especially now in this meta. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, what is the weird old meta? I think there were a few decks now in. In, like, no. In, like, sun and Moon, there was a decent bit of sacrificing. And I think. No, in Scarlet and Violet, there was two. There was not as much. Yu-Gi-Oh but there was some. I mean, for Pokemon, pretty high, but still. Still pretty low in general. Yu-Gi-Oh So one-of-one what I'm saying is Charizard only works against a certain specific type of deck. So you have to analyze out. Yu-Gi-Oh You just gotta know how to play against it. And if you know how to play against it, it's really easy to crush. So I don't think it's a good deck. I think it's a deck that you need skill to beat. Yu-Gi-Oh Which doesn't make it a good deck. It's like if you had a lock, but there was a button on the back of the lock that could blow it apart. Yu-Gi-Oh but you just have to find the button. Yu-Gi-Oh one-of-one All right, so that's my hot take number one. John, it is your turn. Okay, my hot take number one is single card Prizm decks are better. Single Prizm decks are better. Sometimes they're just built different. I completely disagree with that statement. But you have to get some two or three prizes to back it up in case goes kaboomy. Okay, John, I would just like to state I really wouldn't consider your deck a single Prizm deck because you play it. But there's five not single Prizm cards in there. Do you mean by five? Two megas kanga, two mega kangas. Cons. Only one. Oh, did you remove some of them? No, there was only ever one. Really? Okay, the marble. Two models. Yu-Gi-Oh So that's three. And then a pheasant. Yu-Gi-Oh so four. And I gotta admit, they're mostly. Oh no. I'm in trouble. Let's see. Myself, I guess for the pheasants and the marble. Yu-Gi-Oh But I tend to see the Mega Kangaskhan quite a bit when I'm playing your deck, bro. I normally somehow draw it because I'm bad at shuffling. Okay, so that means. So that means your Megas King and Mega Kangaskhan. Is it in fact an Yu-Gi-Oh Oh, my thing? Ghost Kaplowy. It's. And I drew. I don't have. I didn't bother. Right. It's an. Oh, I drew this card. And that just pretty much makes it so. Oh, I drew this card. I'm gonna play it. Which pretty much means it's not a backup. It is in fact just any other. It's a start of a shield. It's like the starting shield to shield. Okay, John, whatever. one-of-one also, single Prizm cards. Single Prizm Prizm Like single Prizm cards, they do not do nearly as much damage. Sometimes they can. 280, John. What do you mean by 280? It does 280. Am I wrong? No, it's 60 times. What do Blade. Huh? It's 60 times. And what is the times for each do blade honed or aegislash in your hand and it. So Max. Okay, wait, how Many Aegislash Honedges and boys are in your deck. Four of all of them. Yes. So that is a max of. 660 damage. 600 damage. That's over the max HP. But this is assuming you have every single. Pretty much every single Pokemon in your day. Yu-Gi-Oh That means you can sacrifice. You don't need two of those. Okay, so that is. Now we're assuming that you have 11. No, nine Pokemon in your hand. How often does that actually happen with a Dawn Lana's Aid and Pokey Pads? Okay, now helping me out. It happens quite a bit. I have another question for you. So now you're using supporters. And how many supporters can you use per turn? One. Exactly. Only one. But you can use infinite amount of Poke pads. And you can only have four poke pads. Yu-Gi-Oh true. Which equals four Pokemon. So then you've got a supporter per turn, which we're saying fetch two or three Pokemon. No, three. Okay, fine, Three Pokemon. So. So seven. So in. Because you need to set up and stuff, and you're not gonna have all the Poke pads instantly. So that means the max Pokemon you could get on your first turn if you went first is four. Well, actually, Yu-Gi-Oh four. Most likely only like two. Yu-Gi-Oh And then if you went second, seven. Huh. And that's not including one that's on the active. So, sure, if you get a perfect hand, fine, that's a pretty good deck. But how often do you get a perfect hand, John? How often do you get every single one of those Dawns? How often do you get every single one of those PokePods? Also, the meta is speeding up. Decks are going faster, and single Prizm decks don't have fast enough setup. Because most single Prizm decks. Okay, they're single prizes. What about Hide and Sneak? Okay, Hide and Sneak is an interesting deck. See, it's single Prizm Yu-Gi-Oh And I don't think it's a very good deck. Foreign. It's just pretty much the only deck in pitch black, other than like Mega Dark Ride, which isn't even that good. I mean, there are some okay decks, but like, okay, listen, listen. You know Brave Wings, I think it was that deck. Or United Wings. United Wings. Yu-Gi-Oh that's pretty much what it is. And United Wings was pretty popular for a while, even though it wasn't that good. Same with Hide and Seek. Same with hide and Seek. So it's not that good. Just because. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh What counters Ghost. What counters Ghost. It's not Ghost. There's no Ghost in the Pokemon card game. What counters sidekick, then psychic fighting. Yu-Gi-Oh Who uses a fighting deck? Megalucario. One of the most popular decks right now. Cardio gets beat up by psychic. Oh, what makes you say that? Because it's weakness to psychic. But psychic. Oh, wait, no. Psychic. Isn't we to fighting? It's weak to dark. My bad. Yu-Gi-Oh What dark? Mega Dark ride. Who uses Dark Rot? You just said it was a bond deck. And I also didn't say it's a Bundes. It's a better deck than Hide and sneak and. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a mid deck and hide and see. Hide and Sneak is really bad, so it's better than that. Plus, that makes me want to buy get a hide. And that can prove you wrong. Plus Monkey Dory the most. Oh, wait. No, I'm not gonna. Okay, you know what? That's a psychic car. Oh, you're right. It is. Okay, never mind. But you know what? That is going to lead me into my next hot take. Okay, we're moving on from this hot take. Okay, I'm sure we'll discuss it more later because we're always discussing it. But my next hot take is. It leads from the last conversation we left off on that Monkey Dory is the best single Prizm supporter. Oh, nah. Budu. But he's not a supporter. But he's not a supporting Pokemon. What do you mean, a supporting? It's an attacking Pokemon. Yes, precisely. Do you use his attack? Yu-Gi-Oh And why do you use its attack? Also, you can Itchy. Itchy. Itchy them. Exactly. You're using it for the effect of the attack, not the effect of its ability. But it's a supporting domain, actually. Okay, I will give you that it is sort of support. But I would actually categorize it under a setup Pokemon. Because, let's be honest, you're halfway through the game. Your main Pokemon is kind of struggling a little. Are you putting in Badoo to help it or no? No, exactly. It's not supporting its setup. Now, very first turn of the game, you need help setting up their main Pokemon. Are you putting Badoo in? Yep. Yu-Gi-Oh it's a setup Pokemon. You would only use it at the start of the game. Okay, fine. So back to Monkey Dory. I mean, Monkey Dory can move damage counters. It allows you to get attacked with some leeway, especially for damage. Frost Last. I said single Prizm supporter. It is single Prizm Frost Last doesn't do that. No, not Mega Frost. Glass. I know. Regular Frost. Huh? It's single Prizm Yu-Gi-Oh And what exactly does it do? It takes up damage counter each. It's a. The perfect counter to Monkey Dory. Each Pokemon. No, it's not. Shack up helps Monkey Dory. What do you mean? It gives damage to move. Monkey Dory likes small bits of damage. It literally counters Frost Last. I genuinely don't know what you're talking about right there. Oh, Monkey Dory likes damage in any deck. It is perfect. It doesn't matter if it's a damage spread deck or not. You're getting damage from your Pokemon onto the other Pokemon. Where could that go wrong? The only deck where I wouldn't want that is Dex. Like. Like Scream Tail and stuff where you like. I'm not. That's not the exact deck because that would be an ancient box. But I'm talking about decks like that where you want damage counters to do more damage. Does that make sense? That's the only deck where I wouldn't think Frost Glass is better. Nope. Because you don't need damage on you to deal the damage. Okay. And most Pokemon have abilities most supporting that they. They can slowly crumble your opponents. Okay, so, John into demise. I'll just say this right now. Okay, Interesting wording. Okay, so I'll just say this right now, John, how many decks out of ten have Monkey Dory? Oh, odds. A good seven or eight. No. Yes, a good seven or eight, John. You know, a good seven or eight decks have Monkey Dory, bro. Come on. You know. See, you admitted it. And now as we just specified how Monkey Dory is a good counter to Frost Last. So in seven out of. In around seven to eight decks, Frost Last would get countered. And it doesn't matter. Sure, maybe it is better than Monkey Dory, even though Monkey Door is a direct counter to it. But if they weren't together in the meta. Okay, but that doesn't matter. So, John, so what if. If you're saying, like, okay, I'm good at this video game, when I play players who like using defense, does that mean you're gonna one-of-one every tournament? No, because a lot of players play offense. Is seven out of eight players play offense. And you say, okay, I'm strategy. I can defeat anyone who plays defense. I'm just that good at defeating defensive people. So let's just remove. I can't just remove all the offensive people and be like, yes, I'm the world champion. So same thing from here. So that is just my point. That is proven, bro. Okay, you know what? We've spent too long talking about this hot take, so we're gonna Dive into probably a couple more hot takes right when we get back. All right, John, I'm gonna have you take. You do this hot. Take the last one. It's your last hot date. Take. Keep that in mind. Judge is better than one-of-one Wait, no, I said that wrong. one-of-one is better than Judge. If I'm being honest, I'm kind of split down the middle on this one. I mean, judge has benefits, one-of-one has benefits. It kind of depends on how you play them, you know, I mean, judge consistently gives you four cards. Sometimes that's worse than one-of-one sometimes it's better than one-of-one Sometimes you want it to be better than one-of-one sometimes you want it to be worse than one-of-one Just depends what you want to use it for, how you use it for, when you use it for. Everything depends in that argument, if you ask me. Now make your argument, though. I mean. Yu-Gi-Oh I still think one-of-one is better. Why? Because you can get more. It's like. It's a good, like, card, but it is kind of situational. Yu-Gi-Oh That's the only reason Judges a little good is because it's not situational. Yu-Gi-Oh It's just straight. Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh that's the only reason. And then that would be better. Brings me to the next thing. I think Unfair Stamp is better than both of those combined. I agree with that. But we're also considering the fact that it's an A Spec and their supporters. Yu-Gi-Oh You know, so they're, like, kind of uncon. Parable. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. It's different. If we're considering the fact that it's A Spec and Mars support, and we're weighing that into the decision, I would still say one of them two is better, but for the straight ability. Yes. It's obviously better. Huh. I completely agree with you on that one. So who do you think is better out of the two? What? I'm a judge and one-of-one Like I said, it's so situational. I will honestly, in most decks have both. Yu-Gi-Oh that's what I was saying. Okay. This was kind of a short, hot take, so I'm gonna do probably one that we'll get into a lot of discussion about. Yu-Gi-Oh Which is, I think the best A specific is Grand Tree. Agreed. Oh, Yu-Gi-Oh Okay. You know what? That's kind of fair. I mean, it's really good. You get the basic. You get the stage two, you get the stage three. Yu-Gi-Oh Like, I'm not sure how much better you can get than that. Is that the right thing? Or maybe it's. You already have a Basic. And then it's. You already have the basic. You already have the basic. And then you get the stage one. And it needs to be able to evolve. Yu-Gi-Oh It must follow all other evolution rules. But then first. And then it gets its first stage and second stage all in one. And you get to search for them. Yu-Gi-Oh Unlike rare candy. It's like mega rare candy that you can use multiple times. No, mega rare candy would be. Wait, is it a stadium? Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh it's stadium. Which means you can use it multiple times. It's stacked. Especially nowadays when you've got so many megas. Only thing that would be bad about it is your opponent can also use it. That is true. That's true. But if it means you need to be strategic about it, you need to play it, use its ability, and then destroy it by placing another one. Maybe. Or. Or you could make it last a few turns and then destroy it. Or if you're playing someone like John who uses the one Prizm deck, then you don't have to worry about it and you pretty much just get the, like the Zebra unfair advantage. Huh. That might be true, but my grand tree actually is in a two Prizm deck. You have a grand tree? Yes. Oh, wait, you know what? I put it in my quack squaval ex step. Yu-Gi-Oh you know what? Actually it would still work on you because you have Honedge and. Yu-Gi-Oh Oh, it would have to get to a stage too. And you don't have any stage twos in there. No, it would go up to Aegislash. Is that stage two? Yu-Gi-Oh Oh, yes. I keep forgetting it's not a split evolution. I keep thinking it's Honedge into Do Blade or Age of Slash, but no, it's honey duplated to ages. Yu-Gi-Oh I always forget about that. They can get split. I don't know what wrong with my brain. Wait, how does the Girdivore vs Gallade split evolution work? Glade is Boy Gardevoir's girl. I know that. Yu-Gi-Oh Also, Gallade needs moonstone. Yep. But anyways, how does it work in the tcg? You can evolve either. Oh, you can. It doesn't really matter now. There's also Mega Gallade. It just depends on which one, because, you know, now there's Mega Gallade. Huh. So it just matters which one you actually have. Yu-Gi-Oh it matters which one you have. It doesn't really matter otherwise. Okay, we don't got too much more to discuss, so I think we're running towards the end of this episode. Yu-Gi-Oh All right, well, we gotta pick our Pokemon of the day. And I'm thinking, Yu-Gi-Oh Yu-Gi-Oh I think we have our decision. All right, it is Monkey Dory. We have the discussion. Ex. No. Regular monkey. No, we gave it to Monkey Door Ex a while back. So Monkey Door. He deserves it. You know, the one time we're actually taught he was a. We were talking about him for a bulk of the episode, so of course we had to give it to him. As mentioned, he's the best one Prizm supporter ever. Not. It's Budu. For the last time, Budu is a setup card. I will admit that supports the entire whole of the deck. But it was the best single Prizm setup card, though. Yu-Gi-Oh that is true.
