What is up, everybody? Hobby with Cage episode four 18, 4, 1 8. We are. We're getting up there. Episode brought to you today by Arena Club by card ladder. Use code Cage. Had somebody sign up yesterday. Use code Cage. That was pretty awesome. Save, you know, save yourself a couple bucks every month and yeah, I mean, card ladder, use, Use code Cage. Save a couple bucks and buy the Philly Show. So let's, let's get into it today, right? So World Cup. I have a couple people asking me if I'm done talking about the World cup so that they could start listening to my episodes again. I mean, I will say this because I don't want to get too crazy into the World Cup. I'll say this. The soccer being played now and until the end of this tournament is, is going to be the best soccer because you have the best teams left. I'm excited for some of the games. I record this today, early morning, July 10, Friday. And today you get to see Spain play. They play Belgium, the team that knocked out the U.S. i think Spain is a heavy favorite in that game. I've yet to see any real flash out of Laminal. He looks great out there. He looks faster than everybody, but obviously when you look at the, you know, the top goal scorers, he's not on that list yet. France play yesterday, Juggernaut. I mean, France, I think if they win their next game, which would be likely against Spain, that's three straight finals for them. Three straight World cup finals. I mean, they lost to Argentina. They won the World cup before that. This team with, you know, with Mbappe at the helm is, you know, they are, they are a beast. And this version is even more stacked, you know, with Desiree Due, with the, you know, Dembele. I mean, you got the, you know, the, the reigning Ballon Thor with, you know, he's, he's likely to win again this year. At least he's a favorite to win again. Who knows, maybe Mbappe, you name it. But it's setting up for a clash between Spain and France on one side of the table. And I mean, that's just going to be an amazing thing. If Spain gets through and you got Mbappe against, you know, Yamal and on the other side tomorrow, not only do you have Argentina playing, right, and it's against Switzerland and, you know, Argentina, you want to say Argentina's favor, they should win and Messi should move forward. They have had two very difficult games in, games they probably should have been, you know, heavy favorites in also. So I'm sure you Never know what's going to happen in tomorrow's game. But on the other side, England, Norway. England is one of the three favorites with Spain and France on the other side of the other table. But man, Norway and Holland, they've really been the story of this tournament. And while England's favorite, it's not that heavy of a favorite. People really have enjoyed Holland. And you know, it's funny, I say sell your Holland cards and you name it, he has now crossed into the zeitgeist. He's now, you know, talk about a card that's hot. I, I, I almost wish I had more of them. And that's sort of the psyche, right? That's sort of the psychology of this. When I say sell it, it's because, you know, people want them. You're going to have more demand for it. I mean, yesterday if you googled Erling Holland, Google had a special, you know, thing that came up. If you went into Google on the search bar and typed Erling Holland, little cartoon Norwegian rowers, you know, like their rowing celebration came across your screen. The little rowing like this, the guys following, I mean, we talked about Rosinha the, the goalie from Cap Verde who, you know, a 40 year old who was, you know, who was standing on his head against multiple teams and just played great games against even Messi. You know, I'm sure he's going to get a contract. You know, the MLS teams are sniffing around them. I mean, he gained like 18 million followers because of this. Because obviously this sport is global and people are watching it. I looked yesterday. Holland's got like 50 million followers and he's really leaning into it. You know, he's on Snapchat, he's on TikTok, he's all over the place. And, and he's funny. And that's one of those things that either have or you don't, right? Just like hobby content. I have it and most of you guys don't. But here's the fun part, right? Holland does. I watch Messi, it's a little boring. I watch Mbappe, it's a little boring. Holland, I mean, he's awkward, he's a little scary, but he's not boring. And he's really leaning into this. And he's gained a lot of following. He's like, he's the face of this tournament. And you know, I will be. If I don't have any cards, I'll be, you know, I'll be rooting for a great game. You know, that England team is fantastic. Also. It's nice to see Jude Bellingham actually, you know, playing up to his potential. And Harry Kane may be the most underappreciated soccer player on the planet. But anyway, we had some great games and, you know, by the end of this weekend we'll know who's playing who. You know, we're gonna, we're gonna line it up and it could set up for the, the four favorites coming in being the final four. You could have Spain against France and Argentina against England. A lot of chalk. And the stars will be there for the semi finals and finals so that it's, it's, it, you know, it is, it is crazy. You're either gonna have, you know, Kane or, or Holland. You're going to have Mbappe, you may have Mbappe and Yamal. I mean, the names are still in it. So, you know, if you're a soccer fan, that soccer collector, soccer investor, this, you know, this tournament has kind of gone the way you'd want it to go. Unless you're a Brazil guy. Unless you're like Endrick and Vinnie and, you know, you were prospecting on them. That didn't work out really well for you. Anyway, lots of fun. The only, only thing that could have been better is if Ronaldo lasted a little bit longer. But, you know, man, fun stuff. So anyway, I said I wasn't going to talk about World cup, but hopefully that, you know, I talk about World Cup a little bit because, you know, the, these guys cards are all hot right now, every one of them. I see a lot of posts on Instagram looking for World Cup, World Cup Prism, you know, looking for numbered cars, looking for golds. Of all the guys I just mentioned, you know, it doesn't look like the soccer card market is going away and I'm interested to see, you know, how much soccer there is at Fanatics Fest and at the national and you know, what happens after World Cup Nationals, World Cup's done International. I'm interested to see what kind of, you know, what reaction people have to, you know, the soccer space. So that's one, two. I am excited. Guys. We are days away from Fanatics Fest. This is, it's a fun thing. I get to do a couple days there with my son, which is great. Get to see a lot of you guys, which is also great. You know, there's a couple days that I get to do cards and then there's a couple days we'll do the activations. You know, we'll do the, we'll do the fun stuff. We'll do the you know, sports stuff, and maybe we'll be able to. And we'd be able to meet some celebrities, you know, meet some players. You know, they, I think they're doing a better job this year of having them, you know, more front and center, having them kind of walk through, you know, their walk of fame kind of thing where, you know, you'll be able to see them, shout out to them, hey, you know, maybe catch a glimpse, take a picture, maybe a selfie. That'll be fun. A lot of people are going to have a lot of fun with that. I'm, I'm there for some cards. I'm going to be bringing cards to sell, trade, make deals, buy. So I'm excited for Fanatics Fest. That's, you know, it's, it's. These next couple of weeks are sort of like Christmas for the hobby. So, you know, if, if, if the next couple weeks are not getting you excited, this. I don't know what to tell you. I am very excited about it. So again, I'm getting a bunch of DMs. If you're going to these, you know, either one or both, send me a message. Let's meet up. Let's. Let's talk. I meet up with you by the card ladder table because that's what everybody's doing. We're going to go hang out all the way in the back, all the way in the back of the show. Carla at a table, fight me for their candy. You know, that's what happens. I wind up eating way too much of the candy they have at the table. But listen, always good conversations there. Always, always folks talking cards. Always folks talking about what's going on at the show. And the best part is people who are there have done the show. People there walk around the show. If you're looking for a vintage baseball card, someone of that table, someone at that booth is gonna be like, I saw one of those. It's at this row or it's at this booth, or you're looking for a Michael Jordan xyz. They will know where it is because you know that it is. It's funny to see who kind of, you know, congregates over at that booth. It's 23, 26, all the way in the back, right before the emergency exits. Charge your phones, you know, rest your feet, you name it. It's. It's a fun booth. They buy it and they're not looking to sell you anything. You know, you don't have to go there and buy a card. They don't have cards on display. It's just they their booth to kind of come in and recharge the batteries, literally and figuratively. So go stop by cards. So Fanatics Fest and National, the messages, you know, they're not all worded the same, but the messages that I've gotten the most, which is always great for content for you guys over the last couple weeks, is what cards are going to be hot at these shows. If I'm bringing cards to trade or sell, what should I be bringing? What card should I be looking at? What car should I be staying away from? You know, know, what do you see in the pricing? So let's throw that out there for the next five or seven minutes. The national football. That's there's a sentence. I don't know whether or not the football cards will be hot enough. Fanatics Fest. And you guys know this. I have a stockpile of Jackson Dart Downtown PSA 10s. I think he's going to be a hot commodity going to this season. I don't know whether or not at Fanatics Fest the price appreciation that I've expected to happen is going to be there. It's not a low pop card. You know, there's over a thousand of these in PSA 10. And with soccer still going on, you know, with all star this weekend and all star festivities and baseball heating up and basketball, you know, summer league starting and you know, people free agency and basketball happening, there's just a lot going on and I don't really hear anybody focusing on football yet. By the time the national comes, which is at the end of the month, right, and the beginning of August, we are a couple of days away from the hall of Fame game where football is being played. And what that means is you'll already have news about camp, you'll already have this guy's reporting, you'll have video out there, you'll have espn, you'll have clips of look how this guy looks at camp, look at what this guy's doing, look at the new coach for the Giants says about his quarterback, etc. Etc. And I believe the quarterback cards will run and they'll be something people are looking for at the National. It's part of why I've started buying Jackson dark cards. I will have them with me at Fanatics Fest, but that's a card. And this is, you know, an interesting thing. There are cards I'm buying to sell, but it's a card that I may not sell at Fanatics Fest because I believe there will be more interest in it going forward. That sounds weird, right? Because, you know, part of my thesis at Fanatics Fest, I think you might even be there. You know what I mean? And it's in New York and you got to figure there's gonna be a lot of Giants fans there and a card like that will sell. Maybe I'll sell a few of them. I have quite a few. You guys who listen to me and watch me know how I do this stuff. I find something I like and I buy them. Right? Right. A la Wemby Silver, which I've started buying again. And I'll have a bunch of those. That's another card that has come down. And I think, you know, at the national people. National people look for football, but they start to look for basketball cards. I remember a couple years ago, Anthony Edwards was the big buy at National. Everybody's looking for him. He couldn't find him because it was just getting bought up like crazy. But I have another fun little talking point on what cards are getting hot and you name it. The cards, you know, the cards that. I don't want to use the word iconic, but the cards that are the staples of the goats. I've seen a lot of movement in them in the last two months. If you go back to when PSA shut down and these are not value cards per se, but follow me here. We talked about how this was going to impact. Know not having these cards come out and not being graded, etc. Etc. That will it impact repackers? Will it impact the ability to have these cards out there and available? I think there's a little bit of that going on. I think the repackers are a big part of it. I believe that with Fanatics Fest and National coming out, it's easy for dealers to go back to what they know. Cards like 86 Flir Jordan, the 86 Flir Jordan sticker, LeBron James 2003 Topps Chrome. You know, the base card, even the refractors, the Tom Brady 2000 Bowman Chrome in a PSA 10, PSA 9. Like, you know, nines, tens of all these. Any grades on the Jordans, you know, these are cards that are liquid. They're cards that transact all the time. There are cards that people know they're cards that people will look for because at a show like Fanatics Fest at International, if somebody comes looking to buy a card, those are the kind of cards that, you know, the casual fans and the collectors are looking to buy. They're also great for repacks because of the liquidity of them because of the fact that they transact so often. You can look at the last couple of sales and I'm going to tell you that if you look back to May, June and now July, you look, you look back the last two, three months, you will see that every single one of the cards that I just named, that's just a small assortment. I can name 50 of these. But you understand where I'm going with this. If you close your eyes and think of a card that is a hobby staple, something that sells on ebay basically almost every day, you know what I mean? You'll, you'll know what I'm talking about. I give you those because they're great examples. The Camry for junior card behind me is another one, right? Mike Trout, you know, tops update. You know, you can think of a bunch of these kind of hobby staple cards. Every one of them is up and considerably right. The LeBron Chrome. If you go back a couple months, the PSA 10 was, you know, between 10 and $12,000. It's now 1516, which doesn't sound like a lot, but that's a lot. That's a big jump in a couple of months. You know, the 86 foot Jordan stickers and the cards in all grades up, the fives and Sixes of the 86 flare Jordan I believe are at their highs now, like all time highs, you know, I think the last five. So for like 11 and change, maybe even $12,000, you know, and that's a card that was, you know, eight a couple months ago. Could some of that be the run up to the National? Sure, on both sides of the coin. Could it be that people are paying more so that they have them to put at their table and maybe sell at a higher price just so that it's a, you know, hey, I'm gonna put that Jordan Fleer on my table and you know, get some attention to it. 100. That LeBron, you know, Chrome rookie, you know, 100. Could it be also a repacker thing where, you know, these are easy cards. You know, you want a ten thousand dollar card, you got the LeBron. You know, you want a five thousand dollar card. Now the LeBron 9 is four or five thousand dollars that has moved up significantly. But you can look at it and if it's continuing to sell at these prices, if you pull it in a repack. Oh, there you go. Look, look back on card ladder. The last, you know, a bunch of them have sold for 3, 4, 5. 5000. 5000. 5000. This is a $5000 card for a repack. These cards are ones that you don't have to do too much research on to kind of get a feel for what the value is. And I believe when you factor in the repacking, when you factor in sort of the, you know, the, the market the way that it is now, you can understand with the shows, with fanatics, best with the national and with repack, why those cards would be the ones that, you know, have a gradual, steady increase in price. Sort of like Pokemon, you know, they transact often enough that people can understand what the money is, what the value of those cards are, and they don't mind paying a hundred dollars more, fifty dollars more and those 50, 125 more each time incrementally. It doesn't sound like that much, but it turns into a 10 or $11,000 car becoming a $15,000 card over three or four months. Now, be careful when you see stuff out there. And I'm gonna close it with this because I said I would keep it shorter. The LeBron Chrome, the 2003 Chrome PSA10 is not a 22, 800 card. And this is an episode for another day. That's if you look it up on card ladder, that's the sale. You're gonna see like, wow, it's 22, 8. Nope, that has a Mike Baker gold sticker on it. And I'm gonna leave it there because I have opinions on the gold stickers that vary. And you guys have asked me about the stickers, what I think about stickers. And we'll save that for another day. But that's a fun one, guys. There are cards that are getting hot. The cards are getting hot. You know what they are. If you've been here for a minute, you can think about them. It's close your eyes, think about the top five players in a sport, the top five goats in the sport, you know, for history, whether it's Jordan LeBron, you know, Steph Curry, you know what their cards are? Not the best card, not the flawless one of one, not the logo man, the card that you think of when you close your eyes about that player, that 86 FLIR. Hell, if you're an 84 star guy, great. You know, the chrome rookie for Steph, the chrome, the tops chrome rookie for, for. For LeBron, the Bowman Chrome rookie for, for. For Tom Brady. Those are the cards everybody knows. And because of that, those are the cards that right now, while the market is hot, those cards are hot. Those prices are going up. We'll see what happens after we get through this fun month of, of July and we go through the shows. Whether or not those prices sustain. I have a feeling they may because of, you know, the. The repacking kind of setting a floor for them. But we shall see. And that's another episode, guys, brought to you by Arena Club. Buy card ladder. Use code cage. Save yourself a couple bucks and buy the Phillies. If you go to national, send me a dm. We'll meet up at the card ladder table or wherever you want to meet up. Talk to you guys soon. Take care of.
