It's great to see you. Actually, we were together a week ago today. Did you left Sunday morning, didn't you, David? Yu-Gi-Oh you left Sunday morning. Joe and I, we actually rode to the airport together in the shuttle. It was great. Got to fly out around the same time. What a great weekend that was. Couple of quick updates, though, from the national guys. First of all, as many of you know, we did the Enter the Inferno production on the Mike Burkus Memorial Stage upstairs of the national. And you know, all week long at the show, I was just hoping it was going to go well. I wasn't really nervous, but I was, I was a little anxious, like, is it going to go well? And it did. I was very pleased about that. But my biggest concern was am I going to sleep through the rehearsal in the morning? Because I slept through breakfast the, the day before, so did not do that. That went really well. I just want to thank everybody who came out and, and sat in the audience and, and watched the, the, the, the, the show. That was great to see so many friends in this, in the audience and, and of course, to the candidates who made it to the final step, the final stage and made it onto the stage, they all did great. So I wanted to thank all of them as well. And Yu-Gi-Oh just a great show we did. Oh, a couple things tonight. The Franken Wagner on Love of the Game Auctions is ending tonight and we are going to keep tabs on that throughout the evening, everybody. We did a book swap, which is not something a lot of people can do you have to write a book to be able to be, to do a book swap. So it's kind of cool to, to do the book swap with Greg. I'm already, you can see I've dog eared. I'm dog eared on page, I think 50, 50. So I've already read the first 50 pages and highly enjoyable. I gotta tell you though, reading a book that is sort of Yu-Gi-Oh autobiographical is so much more real when you actually know the person who wrote it and you can like picture their faces, picture their father's face and hear it in their voice. But we had a great week and you know, we did. We were thinking hard about doing a sort of surprise Saturday night live stream from a hotel room. We Goldin David and I were actually at the, the front desk of the hotel trying to get a, a room that we could have streamed from, but they were having none of it, so. And then Saturday night I was in no shape to do it one-of-one so I think we're all better off without it. But we did discuss, you know, David, Joe and myself and next year we're going to try and do it. We're going to make an extra effort to plan it. So hopefully we can do something from the national next year. Guys, before I go through and welcome the chat to this episode, any sort of opening comments from either of yu-gi-oh, you one-of-one you want to kick things off and just. Well, you know, I don't address the crowd maybe. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, I'm sure we'll get into it a little bit more and I know some people have already sort of been overtaxed with national anecdotes and news, but let's just say I'm still recovering. I had to go jump right back in. I got Home like late, late, late Sunday night and was in an in service for the entire week, 8:30 Monday morning. And today was a lot of laundry and a lot of catching up with, with myself. So one-of-one it's great to be here and I will just say like awesome time, Zebra fun on a lot of different levels, but also like a real triathlon. I feel like it was kind of like a life triathlon moving through that last week. It's a mar. Yu-Gi-Oh it's. You're using triathlon, then the, the national can be a marathon. You know, you get there, we got there Tuesday night or I did at least. And then, you know, you go to the show on Wednesday and you're thinking to yourself, this is awesome. I got the rest of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, you got five days. Next thing you know you're waking up Sunday morning, you're exhausted, you don't even know if you want to go to the show at this point. You've really been there so much already and it just, it goes by so fast. But Yu-Gi-Oh thank yu-gi-oh. David, how about you? What do you want to, what do you want to let people know right now? I just want to thank, I mean those people in the chat that are right here, they, so many of them came up to all of us and I just want to thank them all for making us feel special and telling us their story and how much they like sports cars live and this chat here, I'm one of you. I don't understand oh, scared poopless. Gotcha. Gotcha. All right. We did it. We did it. Oh, and Jeff says there's always deals in the national. There really is. There really is. Let's. We are going to actually talk about that right now because it's the topic of douur and like I've heard a lot of commentary that the prices were high. But let's go around the horn. Joe, how did you find the prices and. Yu-Gi-Oh how did you find them in general? I mean, with the cards I was looking at, they seemed about what I expected. A little, a tiny bit, you know, up then but open to be negotiated with. So to me, I, I didn't really, it didn't occur to me until I heard about it that maybe some people thought the cards were higher. Higher than usual. Yu-Gi-Oh I mean, sure, there were, there were high priced cards and, and you know, some. We're in a market right now where people are bringing their big guns out to the shows. They're entitled, they're paying for the space. If they don't want to sell them, that's really up to them. You know, they can still put them on display and it might turn some people off. That's okay. Then you can walk right past and don't do business with them that show or ever again if you don't want to. Really, that, that's up to you. But there's also people paying crazy money for cards right now. And if someone comes and is willing to pay your not for sale price, I think that's why a lot of people have these cards out. I came across one just locally today, a PSA1 Maurice Rashard card, rookie card from 1951 Parkers. And the guy even said, he goes, you know, I don't really want to sell it, but to sell it I got to get my dollar. I said, that's fair, I'm okay with that. But I'm not gonna stand there and you know, salivate over these cards. I'm gonna go find cards I can buy that I want to buy. And I was able to buy several cards for prices I was willing to pay. I don't feel like I broke any world records at the national at all. So. But it's, it just, it's, it's no different than any other show. I don't think it's different than any other show. So David, what's your take? I agree, I don't think it's in this market. Prices are high, right. And a lot of times if you're finding a very Nice card. It's going to go for very close to highest comp or maybe even a little bit over comp. But I don't think it was like extreme. The only reason why it seems maybe a little extreme is that you see a lot of big cards here compared to your local show, right? So there's a lot more cards that are a few thousand dollars than the local show, that the cards are maybe a hundred dollars. And maybe you see one Gowdy Ruth. Well, here you're going to see 50 Gouty Roost or 100 Gaudy Roost. So all of the prices look like they're high, but I don't know if they're that crazy high compared to comps. For the look of the cards, they were what we all expect, which is not extravagant, just high. But everything's high right now. It's true. Every. Most things are high right now. I mean, we're getting some comments here. Jake says that he bought quite a few cards, didn't overpay for a single one, but there were plenty that were priced too high. It was a good mix. It was. It wasn't a surprising mix to me. I don't know why people are so surprised. I really, I really don't know. Well, may. Okay, maybe there were a few more than usual. Because of the market that we are in, people don't want to let their cards go for the last comp. They want to let them go for the next comp. Because if that's a public comp, which don't. There are no public comps of card shows. If there's, if there's. The next public comp is like, well, then they're going to feel that they sold it too low. So they're trying to set the new. The new computer, even though it's not a public one. I understand that mindset. I'm glad I'm not a seller there having to do that, I suppose. But maybe I'll have to be in the fall at a different show. We'll have to see. YK says I was able to get some cards under comps. You got to come in with a positive mindset. The positive mindset comment is extremely important. What he's saying. This is really key because when you approach a vendor and if you approach the vendor with the attitude where they can tell that you are, like, upset that their prices are too high, they're probably not going to be very interested to work with you. But if you go in understanding why their prices might be even asking them how did you price this? Why is, you know, I noticed the most recent comp was $100. You're at 130. What's your mindset around that? Opening up that discussion is going to open up their willingness to come down for you if they have room, and a lot of them will, because people like to do business with people that they like. It's really like, that's how life works, guys. If you like somebody, you're more willing to do business with them. And if you. If you can have someone get to like you because of how you approach their booth, I think you're going to find yourself in a much better position as far as landing on a price or settling on a price that you are more happy with than paying 30% over the last comp. But also, I say this all the time. If we only ever paid comps, the values would never move. Prices are going up, up, up, up, up for the last year or so. People. There's. It's like, just because you're not willing to pay more than the most recent comp doesn't mean other people aren't. And dealers know that. And that's why they're doing it as well, because they know there are buyers out there willing to sell for more than the last comp. It's just the way it's not. This isn't new. David, you want to jump in? Yu-Gi-Oh I want to give also, like a little special, like a tip for when you're trying to negotiate with these dealers, you know, the ones that you've never seen before. I'm telling you, 95% of people walk up and say, how much is that card? Or do you have room on that card? And that's the first thing that they say to the dealer. And I just think it's very easy to ease into it by literally just giving an easy compliment by just being like, Yu-Gi-Oh you have amazing stuff here. Thank you, guys. Like, it seems like all of your stuff are like goats of all this must. Have you been collecting for the National? Do a tiny bit of small talk first and then start going into it. It's going to make wonders than you just being a person that's asking for a number. Make yourself be a person to them instead of just a unit to them. Well said. Well said, Joe. Just put your hand up if you want to jump in with any thoughts on these comments. I'm going to keep going here. Canucks fan says yesterday's price is not today's price. Yep. Basically Orlando said, overall, there were deals to be Found. I found that to be the case. Jake here says, I was very happy with what I paid for all my pickups at the show. Was not disappointed in the least. I know we're seeing this side of it here. Jeff's car journey said, I got a great deal on a centered Topps. Joe Namath, congrats. That's a beautiful card. Gold Hour says the national is a rip off. He goes on to say rude dealers and overpriced cards. Better ways to spend money than dealing with rude dealers. I don't know you Gold Hour, but I gotta wonder if you're the one with a bad attitude, going up to people and coming off with that energy. Because I didn't come across any rude dealers. Not a one. I did, guys. I didn't come across one rude dealer. And I covered probably 90 of the show Fleer Not one, not one rude dealer. But I'm also not going up to them with this angst towards them or jealousy of their table of their cards or, you know, criticism towards the way they price her. Although I don't, I don't like it when they don't price their cards. But I'm not sitting there criticizing them to their faces. I'm just, okay, I'm gonna spend less time because I don't want to waste my time having to wait for you to comp out your cards so you can give me a price on them. So I think I might say more about you Gold Hour than it says about some of the vendors. But again, I don't know you, so I could be way off. Josh 90s auctions had a great. Yu-Gi-Oh Josh, always good seeing you, buddy. Steve says, enjoyed my first national. No real card targets, but ended up finding some good ones. Looking forward to next year. Absolutely. Desert Shield sniper here says the sticker price is just a conversation starter. So people are willing to pay that is relevant. I still value my Al Bunday Pro set card at 100k but if you have to see an offer. Absolutely. So I mean, listen, what does Mike Ham says? Did any of you actually get confirmation that the PSA 10 mantle went down to the National? I heard something about that, but I didn't even know which card it was my camp. So no, I know nothing about that. But I think it was. Was it Darren Revelle tweeted today or late last night that word is that a high, high, high end mantle recently changed hands. I bet Cage knows about it. He says talking to the host of this show in person was the highlight of the of the national for Me, I will never read that word the way it's spelled there in the show in person was the highlight of the national for Cage. Yu-Gi-Oh Cage had a great time at this show. Absolutely. Jeff Will says I one-of-one one-of-one the argument, but the 10 cards on my list were hard to find. And then 50 over sticker I left with, you can't. You can't. That's not an argument that you're gonna not one-of-one Jeff Wills. That was your experience. I mean, but how. You were there for two hours, so, Yu-Gi-Oh you Goldin have seen much. You just Goldin have seen much of the show in two hours. So that might be part of the problem. You just didn't give your chance. You just didn't give yourself a fair chance, Jeff. But I think two hours is not enough. Jake says, Yu-Gi-Oh the small talk is so important. Hi. How has the show been for you? Opens up a lot of potential conversations. Absolutely, Jake. Absolutely. Tony. I was in the same building as Jay Lee. That was enough for me. Okay. Tony, good to see you, buddy. Absolutely. Robert, Love asking, how did you get to that price based on recent comps? Did not go well at the three dealer. I asked while the National. Yu-Gi-Oh there are some guys there that don't want to hear about comps. You know why? Because they feel like the net, like the con, the next comp is going to be higher. So they feel like people are trying to trap them, I think. But you know, that that's unfortunate that you had that experience. And listen, there are some vendors that are not in good moods at this show, but I think that's the case at most shows, so. Thank you. Hodges gave the video a like, oh, Cage confirms there's a PSA 10 Mickey mantle that's changed hands. I can't wait to learn more about that because I just don't know anything about it. Rob says the art of in person negotiation is a dying skill for many buyers are exposed and not able to hide behind their keyboards. Yu-Gi-Oh being in person is a whole different ball game than, Than being, you know, in a chat or on Instagram or anything. Like in the YouTube comments, Flint hall here says people need to stop selling and giving their cards away for 60 to 80 to influencers. It's interesting. Comment. I don't know what to. I don't know. I don't know about that. Like, I think a lot of people want to get on the videos too. Especially like, like Kyle, King of the cards. He's the biggest. He is the biggest influencer in the whole hobby. He's. There's nobody bigger than Kyle as far as sheer numbers goes. Viewers, subscribers, views, all these things. And he, from what I see, he seems to pay that. I don't know. Actually, I don't know what he pays because I, I watch a few videos, but I'm not sitting there doing the math, so. But he's done some very nice things lately. Jeff, questions? 30k to go to Chicago. YK what do you think about the grading being shut so early? This is their Zebra Bowl. They should have figured this out. I don't know. I mean, we've learned by now that the grading companies can't keep up at all. Joe, what do you think? I mean, all of a sudden, psa, I think, had to shut down their end of show service on day one or early day two. Beckett had to shut down grading. All I heard they ran out of slabs. I. I listen to someone say that's the one thing that they needed were slabs, obviously. But I don't know, I mean, demand is so high. Beckett was lined up like crazy. Like crazy. So, Joe, what are your thoughts on that, if any? My thoughts are that it was predictable and, you know, the market speaks, you know, they, they sold out. I, I think people save up and Yu-Gi-Oh those lines were fast and furious and didn't surprise me. And, you know, I, I'm not. It doesn't surprise me on either side. I mean, could they have done something to mitigate it? Maybe, but it's. It is what it is. David, your thoughts on the grading? Because I know you were involved a little bit in card grading assessment. What. How did you find the experience? I didn't drop. I Tribute off some cards to sgc. There was no line there, thankfully. But if I were wanting to submit to PSA right now, I just wouldn't. I would wait. I'd wait six months because unless you're trying to flip the card, I just think now's not the time to pay extra to be able to get your card graded unless you're trying to sell it. So like, you know, I understand for dealers and for flippers and for people like that that need to get their card or maybe that once a year situation where you're trying to bring the card there to have it graded because it's a very expensive card. But in general, if you're trying to get a lower card graded, just wait, be patient. And if it's your card one-of-one there's no difference between six months from now. Joe. I submitted one card for grading. Beckett had a special. I think it was a five day special. So it wasn't on premises. But they said I'd get it next week. We'll see. But they had a Express$99 special. I guess it's normally 130. So that felt pretty good for a pretty big card like, you know, that I didn't really want to send through the mail and don't mind spending a little extra to, to get it back quickly. Let's, Yu-Gi-Oh let's. So not, not terrible experiences. But we got a few comments in the, in the chat about them and we can talk about some pickups as well. Can I mention one other thing that maybe you guys talked about on the hangover? And I've heard a lot of people. For me, one of the major themes of this national was seeing in person the Fanatics around the NBA sticker game. Both in the cases, in the submission process with, you know, the, the Mike Baker being just proximate to the card ladder. We, we watched a lot of it and, and then people hunting for the raw card that might earn a sticker. And I don't really have a take on it other than it was in full effect. It was, you know, I think there was a moment where I thought, oh, that's just something David Chase does from time to time. No, this is a hobby wide thing that has caught fire. And I am sort of curious to see what the ramifications are moving forward as more and more, you know, stickering attempts occur. I wonder if we're gonna see more competition for the fourth party sticker services. You know, third party being the primary grading company and fourth party being the, the applier of the sticker. I wonder if we're gonna see, you know, we've already got Maddie C's I Appeal Inc. You know, they do stickers. You can't buy them, you can only receive them. So it's a bit of a different angle. But Yu-Gi-Oh I wonder if we're going to see more competition there. I mean, listen, I don't think we're going to see any real competition as far as grading goes. We've seen companies try. It's really almost impossible to penetrate the sports card market. It's easier to penetrate tcg, but that's not what we're here to talk about. So this is sports cards live, not TCG cards live. But Yu-Gi-Oh I wonder if we're going to see another sticker come along. And if there is, can anybody really compete with Mike Baker and his experience in grading being, you know, one of, if not the first grader of PSA back in the 90s, etc. Etc. I wonder if that's ever going to happen. Orlando would like to see the David Chase sticker company. But it's not even. That's just a, that's just a centering sticker. Orlando. That's, that's, that's David's, That's David's sticker criteria, which is fair. How dare you. One for David with centering. One for registration for you, Jaylee. Exactly. I guess we need to combine our forces, huh? We could do that. All right, there. There it is. The Jay Lee David Chase sticker company has now been born. And we will definitely, we will definitely be issuing stickers to those cards that, that meet our criteria. Absolutely. Jeff. Will says we need to license dealers. It's time we treat cards like a real asset class. I mean, who's gonna license them though? Who's, who's issuing the license? It's not gonna happen. It's not. You know what? It's. It is happening. Fanatics is licensing certain breakers to break products. Some Fanatics licenses breakers and retailers by allocation. Allocation is a license. So it's already happening. Will it ever happen for cars on the secondary market? No, but for everybody who wants licensing of dealers? Upper Deck does it with our diamond dealer program. Topps does it with allocation. It's already happening. Is it ever going to happen for secondary market cards? No. No. Your, your licensing is your business license. Pay your taxes. It's never going to happen. We need licensing on that. Never going to happen happen. Jeff, he says Congress. Yu-Gi-Oh right. Yu-Gi-Oh right. I don't think. I just don't see it. Oh, I clicked on this one by mistake. Ultimate victory. If you, I believe if you one-of-one pay $230 for your card to be graded in. The card shouldn't be graded. I mean, that's such a, that's such like a subjective sort of comment that, that. Yu-Gi-Oh I just completely disagree. Ultimate victory. But listen, I think it's okay. A lot of people feel that way that only certain cards should be graded. I think if you want to pay the grading fee you can get any card you want graded.
