Wimbledon PREDICTIONS and National News! | Serving Slabs #30

Foreign. Has arrived and today's Serving Slabs podcast. I will tell you my breakouts and predictions for the tournament this year and deliver you guys some huge breaking news this morning that you may have already heard. So Jack Draper has withdrawn from Wimbledon, which is devastating news for British tennis fans or Jack Draper himself as he is their best hope. He is super talented, reached number four last year and I had a huge prediction for him going into this tournament. But now he is withdrawn this morning because the round one has started. I'm recording this after the first set of matches on day one here on Monday, but I'm still going to give you guys my predictions as it was aside from one which is Jack Draper with drawing. I'll tell you why. So we looked at this post over this weekend. Taylor Fritz one of one auto from royalty time is now to 1100. Drapers did 1750 last May. They're supposed to link up in round one, which was going to be an absolute blockbuster match. I think that this would have been a potential quarterfinal or semifinal depending on how the draw was laid out otherwise. But guess what? Round one they drew each other. And now I'm going to have to switch my pick because at first I had Jack Draper going to the final, but now I'm going to have to sub in Taylor Fritz instead because I actually thought whichever one won this match was going to make the final or at least make the semifinal for sure, in my opinion. And I'll give you guys my top five men's breakout just right off the bat here. So this is looking at players who are either making career, let's say furthest rounds in a Grand Slam or even just best results at Wimbledon, stuff like that. So first up, Ethan Quinn of the round of 16. I really like his draw at Wimbledon and I think in round one he's got a seed. But Dardari is a clay court specialist. I think that Quinn can take him on grass after a great showing at Mallorca this last weekend. Prismich to the round of 16. Another guy with a great draw as well who is a very awesome player. Watchman on the clay season a lot. Bjokovic almost beat Fonseca that one. Went to five sets of the French Open. Super talented. Excited to see what he does at this tournament. Next up, Leonard T. Into the quarters. He made the corner quarters at Australian Open this year, but I don't really think that maybe any of us have thought of him as a great grass court player in the past. At least he's super young, so a lot of time to develop, but I think he can make it there. A great draw for him as well. And then I had Draper to the final, which now I'm going to have to sub in Fritz. I actually thought this was going to be more of a coin flip. He's picking Jack Draper with that home crowd advantage there. And also just big comeback for him at Eastbourne. He had looked great. Lost to Umbert in the semis, but otherwise looked great. And I thought he was gonna have a huge tournament withdraw with an arm injury once again, just like what may withdraw Last year at U.S. open. May have missed so much time. And then he hurt his knee at Barcelona when he rejoined the tour. So just a huge heartbreak of her. Man. I'm really hoping him good health. He's so talented, so good. And we can't be missing a top guy like that on the tour for this much time. It's just not, not something anyone wants to see at all. And then my fifth and final prediction for the men's breakouts is Tommy Paul giving center a great run at the quarterfinal. So as of recording this episode episode this morning. I wrote this before the tournament started, but Yannick Sinner, you know, is in a tight match right now with Kachmanovich, which I fully expect center to win, but just without him playing any grass lead up tournaments. I know he practiced a ton on grass going into this, but without playing a hollow like he normally does, I just think that he might be susceptible one of these rounds. I don't think Tommy Paul is going to beat him, but Tommy's been playing great and he's really good on grass. I really think that Tommy will have a shot at least to maybe take him to four or five sets. So that'll be fun to see. I watched him in play in person at the US Open 2024. Paul had a great start. Ended up choking, but yeah, I think it'd be a great one to see. So my full men's bracket from round of 16 to the final, I've got center vs. Quinn. Tommy Paul vs. Medvedev, Prismic vs. TN Fonseca vs. Djokovic for the rematch. I would love to see that rematch from the French Open. Demon vs. Kaboli. Arthur Feast vs. Ben Shelton. Welcome back. Arter Feast. I had Draper vs. Tiaf, but once again 7 Fritz now vs. TFO and then Serendo vs. Hollis. And then to the quarters I've got Center vs. Tommy Paul, Tian vs. Djokovic, De Manure vs. Ben Shelton, Draper vs. Serendo coming through to the semis I've got Center vs. Novak as a rematch of the semis from last year, Shelton versus Draper. And then I end up having Draper in the final versus Djokovic. I think that's either gonna be Ben Shelton or Fritz in the final. Now with with Draper withdrawing, that would be huge for American Tennessee. And one of those two guys in the final either playing in center or Novak, that would do huge numbers here in the US for viewership. I really hope personally is Ben Shelton. I want Ben to win this whole thing. I want Novak to win the whole thing. One of those two guys would be great to see. So let's see how it plays out. I do really have Novak going far, though. I think that he can win this one. It actually, I think is to his benefit that he got eliminated when he did at the French Open. Gives him more time going into this tournament to practice and to rest up. All right. As for the women's top five women's breakouts, I got Coco to quarter final, which doesn't sound like a break breakout to probably most people. But if you stay in tune to tennis, you know that grass is her worst surface by far. Statistically. She barely wins any matches on grass each season. Only plays in about two tournaments each season on grass. And the results are not good. She lost first round last year at Wimbledon. She lost first round last year. I think at Stu Car is where she played. No, maybe it wasn't Stukar. That's men's grass. I can't remember where it was she played last year where she lost her strong before Wimbledon. But either way, not great results for her. Her best results been round of 16 three times. I think her draw is very favorable, which is actually why I have her making the quarterfinal. She played any tougher opponent in the round of 16, I probably would have had her losing. But I think it's bench in the round of 16 is who she'd have as a seed if she makes it there. So that's what I got for first one Navarro to the semifinal. She's like, awesome. This grass season so far, I think she'd have to beat IGA again. She already beat IGA last term on grass. I think she can do it again. And then I've got Serena Williams to beat Ayala, which you can, you know, obvious Serena's most decorated women's tennis player of all time. And I have her in the breakout section. But hey, when you retire for four years and I come back over the age of 40, I think beating Ayala, who is someone who I think a lot of people are hoping beats Serena. Maybe her card market's huge. She's a huge Filipino fan base. But I. I think it's really hard for Serena to be iga. I mean, that's just two different levels right there between Ayala and iga. But we'll see. I've got Serena make it to the third round here, massing Keys to the final. She hasn't done a lot since honestly, winning Australian Open, but now she looked great at Eastbourne 1 Eastbourne for the third time in her career. And I think that she can make the final. I think she can meet R. It just kind of depends on how she'll hold up physically throughout the whole tournament. And then you've also got Jessica Pula, who I have to win the title, so. That's right. I'll show you my bracket. Two Americans in the final. I'm really expecting big things from the American women at Wimbledon after such a letdown at the French Open. I think a lot of these girls are going to come here really, really excited and pushing for greatness. So this is what I got. I got Sabalenka versus Osaka, which I did this bracket before Osaka had to withdraw from final, where she's playing Mohova this past weekend at Bed Homburg. So we'll see if Osaka can even play that much. But yeah, Sabine versus Osaka, Caroline Mohova versus Mira Andrea. Jessica Pula versus Evie Jovic, Belinda Benic versus Coco G. Svetolina versus Emma Navarro, Clara Towson versus igaontech, Madison Keys versus Linda Noskova, Diana Schneider against Elena Rabakina. So then quarters. I've got Sabalenka versus Mira Pula versus Coco Navaro versus iga, Keys versus Rabakina. And then the semis, I've got Mira versus Pula, Navaro versus Keys, and then I've got Pula beating Keys for her first ever Slam title. That's. It'd be great to see them match up. And that's their really good friends. They're on a podcast together. I'd love to see Pula come out and win her first Slam, though. I mean, she's such a good player. She deserves it and hopefully she, you know, fulfills that. So lastly here, a couple announcements here to end the serving slabs episode. Other than just really excited to watch Wimbledon. And then also we will have a partial set of super fractures from 2021 tops. Transcendence. So it's a 50 card set. Not all of them will be there but there'll be a lot of them there.
